Tuesday Computer

TBT HERE:  I showed a picture of my written pic list a few days ago.  Many friends mentioned "just" keeping theirs by month in folders.

I do THAT too.  I keep all my pics original size, but crop, adjust, and resize. And then export to Mac Finder.

I have folders divided into categories (far left).   Then I have folders by year. After that, I have folders in each year divided into months.  "2107" means 2021 July (07).  After that, each series of processed pictures get a date.  So "210710" means 2021 July 10th.  But that is the saving date, not the individual pic date.

I save all the processed pics at 150-299 Kb to save space.  Larger ones don't show up better on the blog, but I also keep the original sizes for other reasons in Photo.  I may send the original Mb sized ones to the Cloud someday, but I still have space here for now.  I have a 1 Tb hard drive Mac Mini.

I spent a career that required obsessively organizing information, so it is hard to stop even after years of being retired.  Well it was a natural talent.  The IT guys in the old office went crazy trying to follow my files.  They were used to people just putting EVERYTHING they did in "documents", LOL!

But I thought you all might enjoy seeing "maybe over-organized".  LOL!

Caturday Saturday

We sometimes have problems getting comments to publish.  So we started copying each one before trying ta post in case it dint get through and sending it to Notes (with Dad's help of course - we have our limits).   We are sure the problem is here with us, not our friends blogs.  It isn't always the same ones.  And it isn't always whether it is a blogspot, wordpress, or owned site.  It baffles us and Dad...

So we are trying something new.  Here is a list of the blogs and the comments we wanted to send to but failed.  Partly so you all know we tried, and partly because we can't stand it when our clever or sympathetic comments don't reach our dear friends.

A few showed up hours later an we deleted the from the list below...  We are never sure.  So "just in case"...

Ducky - That was a great-lookin meal!  We trust she cut out a bit of the steak center for you (rawer).  That shrimp looked a bit spicy.  TBT usually cuts off a small portion of his meat (UNSPICED) and cooks that separately for us.  It is nice ta be able ta eat some of the good meats we can smell.  He says "We are all housemates here and housemates share".

In return, sometimes we bring him a mousie.  Granted, he likes ta go eat it privately on the front steps where we can't see, but he always comes back inside licking his lips, so we know we are contributing…

Lone Star Cats - We see you are all wearing red in anticipation of National Wear Red Day!  Good planning...  Good planning for Valentine's Day too.

Ramblingon - Carbs are GOOD (when they are fresh veggies and fruits).  I go easy on the starchy ones like pasta and potatoes though.  Not enough nutrients (though I have read that the main problem with potatoes is that people want to drown them in butter or gravy), LOL!

I make a dish with cubed beef, peppers and potatoes and the only add-on it gets is pan-juice (a little splash of dry sherry to de-glaze the skillet).

I make bread in a bread machine (easy-peasy).  But I use beer instead of water and add a lot on crushed onion and garlic, and a heaping tablespoon of oregano or Italian Seasoning mix.  Really deepens the flavor.  Friends and family (and the neighbor who helped while I was injured) all love it!

Rose - First encounters with snow can be weerd!  Laz had his fist couple days ago.  He had SEEN it before at his 2 previous homes (we assume) but had never been out in it.

He was NOT thrilled!  He kept shaking is paws when walking on it.  And when a paw finally sank in, he was done with it. We (Marley and Ayla) were WAITING for that.  MOL!

Zoolatry - Tails are wunnerful fer pictorial modesty.  And we love to sit on the computer keyboard and newspaper ta get attention focussed on US.  Where it should be!

We and Dad hope to figure it all out when he feels better (and he is getting there).  HE says it is probbly "32/64 bit apps conflicts" (whatever THAT is - and don't ask US).  But we dont want some of our friends ta thing we are ignorin them!

Migrating The Puter

We will be off while TBT works ta make the new computer obedient to his will.  He says it may take a few days.  But we will be back...

We Are Back!

Hello again to Catblogosphereland!  We are RETURNED!

TBT is slow and stoopid, but as HIS Dad used to say "Even a blind pig can find an acorn under an oak tree".  No insult to pigs, of course.  And not that we want to find acorns, but he DID finally get things fixed (crossed paws) we hope.

Horrible Computer Wensday

TBT:  OK, my computers are totally screwed up.  The Apple folks got my new one working.  It was the power cord.  In spite of the fact that that they seem identical and plug in the same, there is some differences in "power rate".  When I used the new one, everything came online.  Dang I hate it when techs make me feel stupid.

But that's why they are on the "help" side of the telephone and I'm not.  Still, it's pretty hard to be told the solution is simple.  It's that ONE thing they ask and you think "OMG, the ONE thing I didn't try"...

But then I discovered the new computer was a piece of junk!  My OLDEST Mac Mini (2014) had 300 Gb of storage memory.  The CURRENT one (2017) has about 500 Gb.  I only bought the new one because I misunderstood what the disk scanner program was telling me about available memory.

The new one has only 128Gb!  The NEWEST one can't hold even the OLDEST one.  My fault completely.  I assumed any new one had more memory that an older one.  It is a Cloud computer.  And I can't return it because I have corrupted it with some of my migrated files.

So what I need is my CURRENT one working.  That's the one with the dead power port.  Which means I have a reservation to bring it to to Best Buy next Tuesday so that they can send it to an Apple repair site and THEY will get to it in about a week, and then it gets slowly returned to me.

We are talking maybe a month.  So we are going to be non-email for a while.  I may explore my Windows 10 computer, but I don't understand it very well.  It is going to be very weird not checking my email a few times a day.  But in case we go "missing", I offer this...

Computer Problems

TBT Here:  We are having real computer problems.  The CURRENT one stopped starting.  The NEWEST one won't talk ta the moniter.  We are on the OLDEST Mac.  We don't have email or most programs.  The Geek Squad can't help us until next Tuesday.

We cant get at pictures.  But happily we created a bunch of posts for a week or so before everything went whack.  We can visit on the OLDEST computer or the LAPTOP, but we are kinna messed up  for a while.

We are all OK.  We'll be back...  It is just going to be a weird few weeks.

Flashback Saturday

Well, Iza really needed to update about her meds and probs and vet visit yesserday, so we delayed the usual Flashback a day.

And we had been uncertain what the change from iPhotos to Photos was doing.  After 4 days of it 'processing" and the status bar not moving, we told TBT to just stop it.  He obeys us (sometimes) and closed it.  When he opened it again, it was still doing the same thing.  So we are just bitng that mousies head off and moving to see what happens.  TBT might just restore the whole puter to what it was before.

As long as we can post, we really dont care.

So, because of puters, we copying a post from October 2010.  Its about our logo...  And we must add that when we say "Photoshop", we actually mean "Photoshop Elements 6 or 11".  We have both.TBT is cheap though and wont buy The Real Thing...

"About midnight, I decided that I wanted to make our little personal graphic yellow background.  I've always wanted to.  It looked like this...

I always felt it was a bit lame, with the white background.  But I could never get through to give the background a color.

I know, I know; to those of you to whom such things come easy, it is easy.  But I fought with PhotoShop for 3 hours last night.  PhotoShop and I are not the best of friends.  Nothing in it does "quite" what I think it is going to do.  It hates me.  You would think I had taken its sister out on a bad date once...

But perseverance has merit.  I introduce you to our NEW LOGO!

TA DA!

PhotoShop surrendered after a hard-fought battle...  One of us had to win, and I was the more determined...  In good spirit, PhotoShop has agreed to be more cooperative in the future (but only time will tell), and for my part, I have agreed to read the manual more often.  Cooperation goes both ways...

I also want to thank Ayla and Iza for their good advice ("stop yelling at the computer") and for their constant typing on the keyboard while I was struggling to make (um "request") PhotoShop do what I wanted.

All's well that ends well..."

TBT Here:  The Photo app update has been going on for 16 hours.  Well, I do have a lot of photos.  But we are all annoyed about this.

Not A HAPPY Mancat Monday

MARLEY:  Well we didn't post earlier for 2 reasons.  First, we dint have any new pictures.  Well, we "accidentally, sort of" upgraded to Mac OS Catalina a a couple weeks ago.  It's not a "friendly little kitty".  In fact, we can't seem ta undo it. 

Most stuff got working with some effort, but we tried opening new pics yesserday.  Its not werkin right.  Our old "iPhotos" has to be changed to "Photos".  What an "i" matters is beyond me.  So I dont have a pic of me ta use.

The OTHER thing was that TBT was getting some food for us earlier and lifted his heel ta reach something.  My tail got unner his heel and when he settled back, AAAACCCCKKKKSCREAMHISS!!!!  An it wasnt just the tip, he got the base of it...  Oh BAST hes heavy!  So I have been mad at him all day.  I DID get special treats all to myself after, but STILL...

I could let him use an old pic an fake it, but Im refusing. 

An apparently, we have a stranger coming to visit to look at the heaty/cooly thing tomorrow, TBT is gonna be gone a while for a tooth thing the next day, and Iza goes ta the Vet again the day after that (and she is even more easily annoyed than usual after that), so  don't know what the next few days will be like.

IF we are away fer a few days thats why, but it may not even be a day.  Depends...

WE - ARE - BACK

To Our Dear Friends -

We are pleased to announce that We Are Back and Functioning Finally!  After a MISERABLE month of trying to switch to a PC and then going back to a new and better Mac AND being kicked off our 3rd party Mac mail when Verizon dumped us onto AOL mail, TBT finally got us back working "normally" again.  He must have spent abot 40 hours last month on the telephone with computer companies last month (and he says THANK COD for headphones and wine) before he got it all straightened out Friday!

And then our foods arrived all broken and were replaced, the new bad M/W was replaced

It was (he says) never the Mac's fault.  It was 9 years old and needed upgrading anyway.  The problem was Verizon deciding it didn't love us enough to provide email to us anymore and that really messed us up.  He had to sign in, read, sign out, sign in to another accxount, read, sign out, sign in to the 3rd account, read, and sign out EVERY time.  He was driven nearly to distraction and it was affecting all of us.

Now all he needs ta do is get used to the changes to iPhoto!

He was so happy, he slept 14 HOURS...  Is that catly or WHAT?  And we helped.  We spent the whole time purring on him without asking for food once.  And did he ever feed us after!  Our tummies were packed all day!

And we are even all having STEAK tonight!  

We wonder if he remembers he needs ta do his taxes...?

FINALLY!

IZA:  Well, the new Mini Mac arrived late Wensday.  I immediately claimed the shipping box!  Its OK fer sitting but not napping.  Ayla might be able to.

 The computer box was too small for anything.  It dint smell inneresting either.  Well, machines usually dont.

TBT was too tired Wensday ta do annything with it, and got real busy with other stuff most of Thursday.  He got at it late yesserday though.

And I am now posting from the new Mac.  He's gonna write about that on his own blog (there are some things we kitties really just dont care about, so *I* wont bother ya with it.  But it seems ta werk an thats all that matters...

Caturday Saturday

We are sorry we don't have anny pictures today,  TBT hasnt learned the new Corel program yet and he hasn't even transferred our old photos to the new PC,  He says "one thing at a time.  But we are anxious.  We feel odd not posting pictures.

We trust him; he will figure it out.  But soon would be good.  We are leaving him alone at the puter.  Well, he isnt being very friendly.  We get sleeping time with him and some outside time, but not anny time with him at the puter.  That better end soon.

We are NOT getting as much attention as we are used to getting.

Thursday

We just want to let all our friends know we are OK.  The computer transfer is going slow, but TBT isnt yelling (much) or using bad werds, so that is good.  He can get at our blog on the new MS Edge browser, so thats how we can post here now.  We can only read mail sent to [email protected] but that is good enough for now.

We are used to reading comments at [email protected], but it isn't working yet.  It doesn't matter, we just have to start reading comments directly on our blog again.

Getting photo software might take a day or 2.  TBT thinks it might work to download Windows software now that the cavebear address is working, but he needs to do some tests and it is getting late.  We ALL want to go to bed, and we all sleep better when he is in the bed with us. 

We're Back

MARLEY:  Hurray, TBT has the computer werking better than it was even a few weeks ago when the programs werked but every thing was slow (which was before the programs stopped werking entirely). 

Im not sure what he did.  Meaning Im not sure he actally did much himself but rather got lucky running some check-up software and fiddling with some settings.  He says he will write about that on his own blog.  Probly.

We're just glad everything seems ta be werking again so we can be back.

Speaking of "back", we have "back" pictures today. OUR backs, MOL!

We Are Back

We spent a couple days sort of on and unner the bed because TBT seemed so upset.  It seemed to us that the World was going to end and thr safest place to be was unner the but while TBT was up and doing stuff, and on top of the bed when he was sleeping there.  And did he ever SLEEP!  

He was in bed 12 hours a day this week.  Which was fine with US, as that seems normal.  But it wasn't normal for HIM! 

But he finally got up, cleaned the house, did laundry, and all that usual stuff.  He said there was no point in hiding, the world wasn't gonna end tomorrow, and it probably would affect US

We all got fed as usual of course.  Don't worry about us.

But he isn't as happy as he used ta be.  Granted, it's hard ta know when he is smiling, but there were definite frowns.  Even WE could see THAT!

But he changed today.  It wasn't a BIG change, but we can tell.  He went out of the house with it, he pulled weeds in the garden, he checked the mail and brought in a bunch.  He cleaned the litteboxes (a day overdue, but we managed).  He presented us with our food bowls with the accustomed ceremony and respect.  He held us each several times.  He tossed kibbles again. 

He apologized to us for being a real grump the past few days.  So things are about back to normal as far as WE are concerned.  Actually, we kinna liked sleeping all over him in bed for so many hours each night  and morning. 

We would have been posting ourselves, but we can't when he leaves the computer off.

Computer Sleepyhead

IZA:  TBT kept pushin me away when I tried ta type on the keyboard (cuz he was busy an wasnt paying attention ta ME).  So I decided the only thing ta do was nap right in front of him.

It wasnt easy.

There was nothing but hard stuff ta rest on.

But I managed...

Not So Easy Sunday

Well, we SORT of had an EASY Sunday, cuz we lay around a lot, but it wasnt a HAPPY easy.  TBT just wasnt payin us much attention...

We went out briefly today, but then he called us back inside cuz he needed to mow the leafs.  Only he got in a bad mood and was grumbling in an out of the house.  The battery on the mower had died.  And so had the portable power pack fer jumping batteries.  So he dragged a real car battery out ta the shed and THAT dint werk, so he dragged another out and THAT dint werk.  So he left it hooked up ta the mower and after a few times it barely werked enough to start the mower.

So he spent the afternoon mowin up the leafs over an over until (amazingly) they had all disappeared into the grass!

So he finally came in an fussed some more with the new old laptop.  He only wants it so we can all visit our friends from the comfy TV room instead of being stuck in the puter room where there is no good places fer us ta sit except ON TBT.

He been trying ta figure out how ta get the laptop werking right.  All the sites we tried ta visit said they were untrustworthy, and he couldnt neither get our feedly reader list on the laptop either.

But he finally poked around the system preferences and got SECURITY werkin and the clock werking right which fixed the untrustworthy site problem.  And then he figured out how to get at our feedly account too.  He thought the reader list was on the desktop computer, but it is at feedly.  So he signed in there and up it popped!

So we think we can start visitin from the main TV room with the comfy chairs and other good spots.

But later...  He and us gotta have dinner first (an his takes a while).

Mayhem Monday

IZA:  I like ta be as near to TBT as I can get, but he doesnt like it when I am up on the computer table while hes werkin there.  I keep tryin ta curl up on the keyboard (cuz thats where his hands are and I want attention).

So sometimes he pushes me to the edge and I have ta hop down.  Well, not THIS time!  I made him keep pushin, an I took his whole pile of papers with me...

Here I am guarding over my treasures like a dragoness guarding her pile of gold.

And glaring at him fer making me leave the table...

I settled down ta wait fer him ta stop watchin me so I could jump up again.

But after a while, I got tired of waitin, so I took a nap of the edge of my pile.

I'll be up there again soon enough...

Scary Days, But Good Ending

Kitties, we thought outr visitin days were over fer a while!  Ya see, TBT messed the computer and our Feedly list was GONE!!!

He spent 2 days fussin with stuff an couldnt get it back.  We figured our toy-time was all gone fer a week while he built it back.  Well, it WAS gone fer 2 whole days.  He tried evrythin.

But then (an we really DONT unnerstand some of this stuff), but when he asked the HELP button questions inna lot of ways, ONE WERKED!  An he we got it all back suddenly.  We and he still dont know why, but who cares...

Another puter ambush DODGED!

Now back ta the normal stuffs -

MARLEY:  GOT ONE!

The warmer weather has brought those snarky little moles out.  TBT doesn't actually mind the moles so much, but they let the evil voles use their tunnels ta get at the plants.  So fewer moles, fewer voles.  An TBT is happy when I get ANNY little ratish critters.

An guess what he learned on his camera?  A "macro" setting that is good fer close-ups!  

And YES, I ate it later...  Playing with it to death was fun, but I got hungry after a while.  An moles are better eatin than even the best canned stuff.
