Christmas Leftovers (Part 3)

First of all, Merry Christmas! I will be up to my neck in Turkey with all the trimmings by the time this blog appears as I am Lord and master in the kitchen on Christmas day (and every other day come to think of it!)

I always love to hear tales of how early we crafter's make our Christmas cards so I thought I'd start on today for next year, how's that for early?

Here is the last in my series of freestyle collage cards, I must warn you it's a very addictive style of working and one I can see myself revisiting over and over again in the new year.

The die I chose to use was designed by the fabulous Brenda Walton and is a Sizzlit die called Holiday Icons which contains four classic shapes including the dove and star which I have used here. I also used a Thinlits doily from  the Love Story set

I die cut the dove and star from white card before using my finger tip to apply some pale blue paint to the dove and delicately inking the edge with 'Old Paper' Distress ink, once dry I applied Glossy accents. I applied PVA to the star and sprinkled with glitter before leaving both die cuts to dry.

Next, I die cut part of the doily before inking and distressing the edges with a fine sanding block and applied it to the base card alongside a couple of scraps of paper and the 'Merry definition' which I created on my PC before printing onto graph paper, trimming to size and inking the edges. I also added a silver eyelet and applied a stamped image using the 'Old Paper' distress ink to give a very delicate and subtle effect.

All that was left to do was attach the various elements Including the plastic 'star' button and key brad along with a smattering of adhesive pearls and gems. I do hope you have enjoyed this little series of cards as much as I have enjoyed making them?

Finally I want to wish a very Happy Birthday to my fellow Christmas Day babies; please stand up Design genius Paula Pascual, Steve Potter carpenter extraodinaire who creates all our trade show stands and Silva Brodar, my good friend from Slovenia ( if you are ever lucky enough to find yourself in Ljubljana, pop into the Rayher store, you wont be disappointed)

Christmas Leftover's

Don't worry! we're not making cards smeared with sprouts and cranberry sauce. The leftovers that I refer too are those bits and pieces that we all keep in nooks and crannies stashed around our craft room. Little bits of decorative paper that are just too good to throw away, odd buttons, trinkets and of course die cuts.

The great thing about the freestyle collage style of card making is that anything goes, there's no right or wrong and a s long as you are happy with the visual balance then who's to tell you it aint perfect?

This is one of my favourite styles of card making although it is a bit hit and miss and you will spend forever moving the various elements around the blank space but it's so rewarding when it all clicks into place.

I used dies by one of my favourite designers of all time, the wonderful Ms Paula Pascual. I chose the wonderful Christmas Tree Framelits and the super-useful Doilies set.

Before I go on, I should tell you that I'm not going to itemize every thing I use simply because I have no idea either what it is called or where I got it from, Its STASH!!!

I die cut the tree from Kraft board and randomly applied some pale green acrylic paint with my fingertip. Next, I went to my online dictionary and typed in the word 'Joy' (the other two are for the coming weeks) I typed up the definition in a typewriter font and printed it onto graph paper before triming it to size and lightly inking with 'Old Paper' Distress ink.

I die cut a doily from Core'dinations card stock and lightly sanded around the edges,Next I mounted it onto a base card with a piece of green patterned card stock, before adding a strip of news type paper and my printed phrase. I then added an ornate button alongside a threaded wooden button.

Finally, added assorted pearls and gems to the tree and news type strip along with a couple of staples and there we have it.

A Layout by Gerry van Gent

Happy Sunday Sizzix friends!

Today I 'm sharing with you my latest Sizzix project.

657900 Sizzix Big Shot
657007 Sizzix Bigz L Tray Base Tray
658369 Sizzix Die Pop 'n Cuts Magnetic Insert Butterfly Window
658449 Sizzix Die ScoreBoards XL Album, Garden Gate
658605 Sizzix Thinlits Die Set Doilies, Lovely
658506 Sizzix Sizzlits Vintage Doily
658951 Sizzix Thinlits Die Ornate Hanging Sign

The Garden Gate Album Die was used here to embellish the photo.
I die cut it by using corrugated cardboard and pattern paper at the same time.
In this way it pops and gives a beautiful dimension to your layout.
N.B. The wood grain pattern is from the paper collection!
The Pop 'n Cuts Butterfly Window Die was here used not
as a pop-up butterfly window but as an embellishment.
I die-cut it using two different pattern papers. After that I carefully
cut the butterflies out and sanded the edges.
Then I added in the middle of each butterfly a white rose as a final touch.

OTHER PRODUCTS USED:
Webster's Pages - "Family Traditions" paper collection
Webster's Pages - Birds Silhouettes
Imaginarium Designs - chipboard frame

Hallo Sizzix vrienden!
*  *  *
*  *  *

I hope you enjoyed my layout today!
Have a great day!

White space and a lot of dimension - low budget scrapping :)

Hi,I hope you had a great week!
Today I want to share one of my new layouts - lighter in style - with just a touch of media on it and a lot, a lot of negative space. Projects like this are perfect for using the leftovers from 12x12'' papers or small paper pads such as 6x6'' or A4. You don't have to use big papers for scrapping, as long as you have a good background to play, right? Tons of embellishments are just an option, too...

As you can see on this layout - you can create balanced, dimensional composition with a touch of gesso, paint, small scraps of paper and just a bit of embellishments - the most important elements here are layered cut-out doilies and a paper rossette, which was decorated with new Mechanicals - metal embellishments from Prima.

The whole secret is in not being afraid of the empty background and composing all the layers of paper, cut -outs and embellishments as close to the photo as possible. It is convinient to have some 3D foam  and double sided tape - it makes the creative process far easier and layers more spectacular ;)

To create a project similar to this you will need 3 different Sizzix dies:
- 658339 - Sizzix Sizzlits Decorative Strip Die - Medallions
- 659068 - Sizzix Thinlits Die - Doily
- 658947 - Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 2PK - Doily & Doily Border

All the papers, stamps and metal embellishments are new, coming releases of my products with Prima Marketing -  Vintage Vanity A4 Journaling pad, Vintage Vanity Clear Stamps and Mechanicals.  Layout was finished using a bit of Ranger Archival Jet Black Ink, tea stain and spray paint. For stricking the elements and dimension I used products from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L: 3D Foam Squares and Crafty Power Tape.

I hope you are a bit inspired - have a great, creative weekend!

Enjoy Life Layout

Hi Everyone!

Daria is here. Today I have a layout to share with you. Usually I create layouts about my daughter. But today layout is about me. I love this photo and love what I created. :)

Items used:
Big Shot Machine (655268)
Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 6PK - For the Record (659108)
Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 9PK - Doilies, Lovely (658605)
Sizzix Sizzlits Decorative Strip Die - Tattered Flower Garland (657824)
Sizzix On the Edge Die - Distressed Doily (657496)
Sizzix Framelits Die Set 6PK - Banners, Fancy (658601)
Lemon Owl paper – Attic Door Collection
Different embellishments
Perfect Pearls Mists

I started by creating banner-frame using Banners, Fancy dies. Then I cut big banner and glue both of them onto the layout. I cut doilies from vellum using  Doilies, Lovely and  Distressed Doily dies.

I used not only doily but also hearts from Doilies, Lovely die to creat such interesting circle.

I cut frame using For the Record dies to create handrail for two people onto whom I look.

Thanks for stopping by.
See you next Wednesday!

Daria.

Distressed Doily.
