Bird and bear bibs

I have some new favourite dies -
I think these look good on little bibs, but I also have other ideas for Christmas!
I love the simple shapes - they are ideal for applique - although for the bear I have embroidered the eyes and nose as the pieces are so small.
To make the bib I cut a triangle 42cm across and 24cm to the point -
and I cut off the points on the top corners.
I fused Heat and Bond to the wrong side of mid grey and aqua coloured plain fabrics and, using the die and the Big Shot, cut out the bird in grey and the heart/wing and the eye in aqua
I fused it in place and then stitched around the shape so that it will withstand multiple washes.

The backing was cut in towelling, the 2 pieces were stitched, right sides together, leaving an opening in one side -
When the bib is turned right side out the opening is slip stitched together.
To complete 2 small pieces of Velcro were stitched on the corners of the bib -
remember that one piece will be on the right side and the other will be on the wrong side.
The bear bib is made in the same way, but I fused the pieces on in stages to make the stitching easier -
If-the scarf is stitched a piece at a time you don't need to keep stopping and starting and securing the ends of the threads
and I stitched French knots for the eyes, and a few satin stitches for the nose -
then the bib is put together in the same way as the bird bib.
I've given one with a bear on it to my daughter for her little boy, and I think I might be making a few more. You can make then personal by adding the baby's name, using one of our alphabet dies - http://www.sizzix.co.uk/product/657837/sizzix-bigz-xl-alphabet-die-word-play is a good size and quite fun because it's irregular.
That's all for this week - I hope I'll see you at the Festival of Quilts - I have lots of dies to demonstrate - so come and say hello to me on Lady Sew and Sew, or Beth on Cotton Patch, and Mandy on Abakhan.
Enjoy the show if you're coming, or enjoy some sun and sewing.

And you ??
What are you waiting to create your favorite tree ??

NECESSARY:
cardstock or paper scrap

Ciao crafter!

OCCORRENTE:
Cartoncini colorati o carta scrap
forbici
colla stick
matita bianca

arrivederci al prossimo progetto!

Silhouette Bird Canvas

This week I've been experimenting with different materials in the craft studio and discovered a roll of vinyl in my stash. For this DIY you will need the following:

Sizzix Big Shot Plus Starter Kit
Thinlits Sweetie Bird Die
Black Vinyl (sticky back)
Black String or Yarn
Hot Glue
Mini Canvas

Using just the main body part of the bird die, I cut out 5 birds in the black vinyl.

I then fixed them to the canvas using the sticky peel sheet on the back of the vinyl. Using a hot glue gun, I glued a line of black yarn underneath the bird's feet to create their 'perch'.

Cute eh? You could definitely create these canvasses with any designs and vinyl colours. Why not try it with card or fabric instead?

I hope you're having a creative weekend. I'll be hosting a craft party in my city to make flower crowns for summer!

Little birds for a baby

The long anticipated baby has arrived - and it's a boy - James Arthur, brother to 3 beautiful girls!
So there will be a quilt for him - but I really must finish the quilts for two of his sisters and one of his cousins before I start his ( the good news is that all 3 tops are made - I just need to layer them up and quilt them!!)
So a quick gift is what I need - so here it is -
a little string of birds that can fix across his pram - I did think of adding some little bells to this but know that my daughter, Naomi, wouldn't appreciate it.
I used Bigz die 657685 http://www.sizzix.co.uk/product/657685/sizzix-bigz-die-birds-3 and the Big Shot http://www.sizzix.co.uk/product/660200/sizzix-big-shot-machine-only-white-gray  to cut the birds in felt - I chose grey and aqua - cutting 4 birds, 2 wings and 2 eyes in grey, and 2 birds, 4 wings and 4 eyes in aqua.
I started by stitching the eyes and wings in place, using a small running stitch, but this can also be stitched on a machine. ( remember to make pairs of birds)

Then I stitched 2 grey birds together, with a length of grey ric rac running through the middle, and adding a little toy stuffing before completing the stitching -
it just remained to complete the other 2 birds in the same way.
I now have a little gift to take when I visit again tomorrow.
An alternative would be to make the birds into a mobile - hanging the birds from ribbon attached to the back.
I could also make a little quilt to match - or even add a bird to a tiny t-shirt - I'm sure my granddaughters will help me decide on the next thing to make for him.
So that's all for this week, have fun sewing.

Simple Birdie Cake Toppers

Hello! This week I've been spending lots of time in my kitchen making treats and cakes. We had these white chocolate and marshmallow rice crispie cakes on Easter Sunday. I knew they needed sprinkles on top, but I also thought I would make some simple birdie cake toppers using the Big Shot Plus Machine.

Supplies used:

I wanted to keep the toppers simple so used pink card stock for the main body of the bird, then white card stock for the wing.

I sandwiched a cocktail stick between two birds and fixed together with double sided sticky tape.

These are so so easy to make, I think I want to put them in all my food! You could even write a name in the wing and use them as place settings.

Have a good week - I hope it is filled with lots of treats!

Bird Branch Tag

Hi there! I have a gorgeous tag to share with you today created by one of the Darkroom Door Design Team members, Godelieve Tijskens.

Godelieve has used the Sizzix Bird Branch Die with the Darkroom Door 'Love Birds' stamp set to create a unique and fun tag! Check it out:

The background was created with Distress Inks, then stamped over the top with Darkroom Door's Sheet Music Background.
The Bird Branch was cut out of kraft cardstock.

To give the branch some texture, it was stamped with the Darkroom Door Stone background stamp.  A great stamp for adding texture!

Supplies used:

Sizzix: Tim Holtz Alterations Die:  Bird Branch #657883

Darkroom Door stamps:
Love Birds Rubber Stamp Set (nest, flying bird)
Wildflowers Vol 1 Rubber Stamp Set
Sheet Music Background Stamp
Stone Background Stamp
Ranger Distress Inkpads: Broken China, Mowed Lawn, Frayed Burlap
Ranger Archival Ink: Coffee
Tim Holtz Idea-ology Chitchat
Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher

I love how the dies and the stamps work really well together!
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you have a creative weekend!

Spring Cards: Two little birdies

Hi everyone!
Today I wanted to show you card designs that are really quick and easy to make for Easter/Spring.
To make the card a set, I like to stick the same basic design and give each card a twist of its own.

Anna Drai - big shot - card - easter - pasqua - tutorial (1)

Items used:
Sizzix Big shot machine (655268)
Sizzix Framelits Die Set 8PK - Squares (657565)
Sizzix Framelits Die Set 6PK w/Stamps – Banners (658289)
Sizzix Bigz Die - Leaves (657119)
Sizzix Bigz Die - Owl #2 (657694)
Sizzix Originals Die - Circles #4 (657020)
cardstock: pink, white, orange
patterned papers
felt
twine
distress ink
sequins
two-sided tape, glue...
yarn
sewing machine

How to make:

1- Fold a piece of pink cardstock in half to create a square card base approx  10,5 cm.
2- Use the second square of Framelits die to cut a square from cloud paper. Distress ink the edges. Glue to the front of the card.
3- Cut out two little banners, then layer together.
4- Adhere a stripe of spotty green paper to the below side of the card. Distress ink the edges. Sew around with white yarn.
5- Cut out a big leaf from spotty pink paper. Remove the leaf-stalk. Cut out a little white circle, design the eye and glue in the body of bird.
6- Cut a little banner from orange paper and cut with a scissor to make a beak.
7- Cut out two little heart from felt, one to make a wing, one to make the tail.
8- Cut a piece of twine and tie the ends. Fold the twine and glue behind the body to make the legged bird.
9- Adhere the bird with a two-sided tape. Accent with sequin to finish.

Now you’ll have a sweet little birdie card all ready to send off to a friend!
Thanks for stopping by to my quick little post.
Happy Easter!

Flag_of_Italy Per le amiche italiane! :)

Ciao a tutti!

Vi spiego come fare...

Materiali:

Sizzix Big shot machine (655268)
Sizzix Framelits Die Set 8PK - Squares (657565)
Sizzix Framelits Die Set 6PK w/Stamps – Banners (658289)
Sizzix Bigz Die - Leaves (657119)
Sizzix Bigz Die - Owl #2 (657694)
Sizzix Originals Die - Circles #4 (657020) cartoncino: rosa, bianco, arancione
carte fantasia: rosa, verde, celeste/nuvole
piccoli ritagli di feltro, colori in tono
spago
inchiostro distress
pennarello nero
paillettes
biadesivo spessorato, colla ...
opzionale: macchina da cucire, filo

Come fare:

Buona Pasqua!
