March 2016 Challenge: Quirky Masculine with ribbon or twine - and DT call

Welcome back to Quirky for another challenge. We had some great entries for our last challenge, I think it was very popular and our top three are published in the post below this one. I hope you like the new challenge as much.

The challenge for March is Quirky Masculine with ribbon or twine, let's see cards for a man or boy, cards with a digi of a man on them, and don't forget that ribbon or twine MUST be included if you want a chance of being in the top three!

We have three wonderful sponsors for this challenge and they are:

Who are providing our first place winner with a £10 voucher to spend on gorgeous ribbons.

Our second place winner can choose 7 digis from Bugaboo.

and finally a new sponsor for this year, we would like to welcome the very Quirky:

Our third place winner will be able to choose 3 digi images from SLS lines.

As you know a couple of our Design Team members have had to leave us already, and the rest are suffering from ailments but we have recruited a new team mate and we want to give a big welcome to Kelly Patricia! Unfortunately Kelly has dislocated her wrist (is Quirky cursed?) so will be unable to make anything this month, but you can look forward to seeing her work next month!

Kelly will introduce herself properly to you soon!

We are still looking for at least one person to join us on the Quirky side! If you think it could be you please contact me for details.

Now for some inspiration, first of all from our Guest Designers:

Hi, my name is Beate alias Stempelomi . I’m an “over fifty” Mum of 3 grown-up children, wife of a lovely husband and dog owner of 2 wonderful dogs. We live all together in our house in the west of Germany near the state border to the Netherlands. Since 2005, my hobby is to make/stamp cards and I love it! I’m proud to be a Guest Designer in this "Quirkycrafts challenge" and wish you good luck! Enjoy it! Hugs, Beate
For my card I used the Bugaboo stamp from my stock Jesse Bear Angel - stars.

Thank you Beate, I love your baby boy card!

Rae Ann used the very funny Gus Birthday - optional digi from Bugaboo, and used twine on her lovely card.

Now some inspiration from the Design Team:

Pat using "akv boy sitter with dog" from Bugaboo on a digital birthday card. Her ribbon is tied ito bows and adorn the dog bones along the bottom.
AND
Pat using Math Geek from SLS Lines on another birthday card. The inside reads: You can't be 29 AGAIN!! Ribbon is use as a strip behind her sentiment.

Cazzy

Phew, here at last. Sorry I'm late - I've had a lot to do.
This fierce chap caught my eye, and I keep thinking he is a Viking and I never noticed he was wearing modern boots until I got colouring! Anyway he isn't a Viking, so that is alright then! He is from SLS Lines and is a Dwarf Axe Warrior! My silver and gold ribbon was from one of the bargain £1 bags from Crafty Ribbons, I thought it picked out the gold and silver from the image (was still thinking Vikings and Viking gold I have to admit).

I hope to sneak back in with my Bugaboo project later on.

Marg

The ribbon essential is holding the metal skull charm on. The treasure map
was downloaded from Google and labeled for Reuse which is why I have used it.
The "Happy Birthday" sentiment, skull & backing card behind with the "ocean waves" on it are all from my own stash. I coloured the digi with Harmony alcoholic marker pens. I will be using this fun digi again for my grandsons/friends sons cards as its a wonderful image to colour and reminds me of Captain Pugwash!! (Of which some people will remember from the 1970's childrens tv shows).

and

who reminds me of both of my grandsons, but mainly the eldest one as he sits in a chair to play but the youngest one sits on the floor. Anyway, I used both a lace ribbon from Crafty Ribbons and pieces of unthreaded hessian from my own stash.
The digi, is amazing for any playstation/xbox lads birthday cards. I staged it on my card to be in his bedroom on the console, colouring with Harmony marker pens & Sakura Gelly Roll Metallic pens. Everything else on the card is from my own stash, inc the base card from Papermill Direct.

Challenge 13 - Hand made flowers and ribbons

Welcome back to a new challenge. My turn (Diane). This time I have gone for Hand Made Flowers with Ribbons. So I think that is probably self explanatory really.

I am looking for your entries to include Hand Made Flowers ( from punches, die cuts etc) with ribbons. Bought flowers and blooms are not allowed on your project, and if you use them you won't be included in the top three.

You can make anything you like from a card to a scrapbook page and anything else in between. Lots of scope there for you to have fun.

We are very lucky to have two sponsors this time:

who are giving our first place winner (chosen by our DT) this lovely prize of the latest Bev's Bag (available from the shop soon) of teddy bear ribbons.

PaperPrettiesBadgenew

who are giving the second place winner 6 digi images of their choice.

Here are the Design Team Examples using images supplied by Paper Pretties:-

Guest Designers:

Suzie used Fan-tastic Sophie and made a wonderful flower to match the designer printed paper on this stunning card.

Margreet used "1960" on her lovely vintage altered note book, and said: The flowers are die cut with a Doohickey die (Magnolia), as are the leaves, the roses on top are bought ones. We let Margreet off as she is our guest and we are happy to have this gorgeous make, but challenge entries must not include bought flowers or they will not be counted in the top three.

and the regular Design Team:

I used the "Flourette" image and one of the accompanying sentiments from our sponsor, this is so cute with the kitty stuck in the vase! I made my flowers with Nellie Snellen punches and embossers and added K & Co gems, and a little glitter glue. Image coloured with Promarkers. The dark card is actually plum not brown and matches the ribbon, all ribbons from Bev's Vintage Bag from Crafty Ribbons.

I have used "1960" from our sponsor to make this vintage tag. I used distress inks round the edge, coloured the image with promarkers and then attached a large number of small flowers punched out of basic grey paper. I also made my own rose-like flower from 5 punched flowers, coloured with distress ink, sprized with water, scrunched up and pinned together with a brad. I finished the tag off with pearls on the jacket and hat, and the ribbon attached witha brad.

I used Butterfly Blossoms from our sponsor, which I printed out twice so I could do a bit of 3D-ing. I made my flowers using Woodware punches and coloured with a crimson promarker to match the colour used on the card, then added Stickles Glitter. Paper by Dovecraft

Diane

I have used the Blossoms and Butterfly digital image from Paper Pretties for my example. The colour scheme came from the sunflower images, of course. I coloured the image using promarkers and made flowers from copy paper using various punches and dies. The lace was a Martha Stewart Punch and the backing paper on from Sherry K designs.

Please add a link to your blog post (not your blog) using the biggest blue froggy at the top of the collection, the other one (at the bottom) doesn't do anything that we can tell, and please comment after you have linked.Don't forget to mention Quirky and add a link back to here (please read the rules and if you realised you haven't followed the rules and won't be included in the top three, and you want your entry removed to try again - please email us using the link in the side bar).

Challenge 8 2012 - Quirky Happy Event (recipe and New Baby or Pregnancy theme -see below).

A very Happy Easter Holidays to you all.

To see who won Challenge 7 please scroll down to the post below this one.

This Quirky Cazzy Challenge is inspired by my soon to be Grandson, and is in honour of those who are expecting a happy event (that is the patter of tiny feet) or for those who have experienced the happy event. So I want to see congratulations on your pregnancy, soon to be grandma, or new baby projects, cards or whatever you want to make. New big brother, new Grandparents, new parents, new aunty, baby announcements, but your make must include: GINGHAM, RIBBONS (OR GINGHAM RIBBONS), and NOVELTY BABY BUTTONS/EYELETS OR BRADS.

This must be about a NEW baby, or PREGNANCY.

Important Note: We are relaxing the rules on the number of challenges you can enter (this is a trial for a few challenges to see what happens). You can enter as many challenges as you like with your make including ours as long as your make fits our theme and the recipe above.

Our wonderful sponsors this time are

Crafty Ribbons, who are providing a wonderful prize to our top prize winner of this exclusive baby ribbon collection:

and Stitchy Bear Digital Stamps,
who are giving our second place winner a $10 voucher so you can choose what you want when you want it from three different ranges as used by the DT (the voucher will tell you which ranges you can pick from).

Now lets see what the DT came up with using images from our sponsor:

First our guest designers:
Bev G joins us again (despite a tornado wreaking havoc near where she lives - thankfully she and her family are all safe) with this very sweet card, Bev used Clown Doll and Toy Bunny.

Sarabeth who was a winner a while back but couldn't join us at the time, made a lovely cross over gift card holder using Toy Bunny.

Caro:
I made a little tag for a friend who has just had a little boy she has named Archie, using the 'Hush Lil Baby' silhouette stamp from our sponsor as well as gingham paper, blue ribbon, blue gems, rubber sentiment stamps and little feet, hands and bottle buttons from my stash.

I've made a shaker card so the Doll Clown digi could sit in the corner. I printed her out in two different sizes and used the smaller size inside the card. Coloured with three different shades of pink ProMarkers. I've used gingham papers and ribbon and tiny heart buttons. The Baby's rattle was also a button. All my baby buttons are blue, so I coloured it pink using a Promarker. The sentiment and insert were done on the computer using a grey outline with a pink fill.

I used Baby Cakes Digital Stamp. I decided that I would like to make it into a shaped card, so imported the stamp into my Studio Software and created the outline by tracing, copying, flipping and welding the images. I then printed the image several times and decoupaged it. I have included gingham ribbon (not the right shade of blue, but all I could find as I am in the middle of a craft room relocation!) and my themed button is the giraffe on the baby cup. it was just the right size!

Due to Technical difficulties (as well as migraine) I had to come up with something other than the project I had planned, and in very short time! This card uses Baby Sleeping and Toy Bunny images from Stitchy. I added some novelty buttons and paper pieced the images with some blue gingham paper (now where is all the gingham ribbon I thought I had?). There is some nursery rhyme ribbon in the background (the cow Jumping over the moon from Little Boy Blue which came from Crafty Ribbons). Hopefully I will have another one to show you soon using the last image, which was also planned for the project that wasn't to be!

Challenge 4 2011 Quirky Love Story (with ribbons and charm)

Hello Quirky crafters - it is challenge time again and this one should not be too taxing or too quirky (I know - unusual for a Cazzy challenge) and I think we will get a lot of entries!

Love is in the air with Valentines only a couple of days away, and "Where do I begin - to tell the story........" (sorry I can't get that song out of my head).

The theme is Love Story, so show us your Valentine's, Anniversary, Engagement or love themed projects. Your project must feature a dangling charm and ribbons. There - I said it wasn't hard! So if you are into the whole soppy love thing with cute and cuddly animals, or something dark and alternative, just remember to show us your dangly bits!

This challenge is sponsored by the lovely Robyn's Fetish Digital Stamps and More.

Our first place winner will be able to choose 5 digi images from the Robyn's Fetish Store.

Here are some examples from the Design Team.

First of all our Guest Designers with some lovely makes (or should that be luv-erly makes?):

Crafty Girl used Bearly Luv, and red ribbons and two dangling butterflies on her gorgeous card.

Cazro used Pussycat Luv and said she doesn't normally do "cute" or use digis, and she didn't expect to be among the winners of our last challenge, so I think she has done really well with this cute digi!

Susan (who said she is thrilled to be joining us again) used I Toadily Luv U, and this one really made me giggle when I first saw it, I love the glittery nail varnish the toad is wearing! Susan used a 6"x6" card blank and mirri card to mat and said "I have coloured with pencils and fiskars metalic pens. I chalked the background and used red stickles. Red satin ribbon, yellow red heart ribbon and lime green ribbon, heart charm and DP's are all from my stash."

There are plenty more details on our GDs blogs, why not hop over to share some luv with them!

Here are the Quirky Crafts Team examples:

Diane - has made it just in time!!!
Using Pussycat Luv, a heart easel cut using my Cameo and a whole bunch of rolled roses. not forgetting the obligatory ribbon bow and charm....a little pussycat.

Caro: I decided to alter a white chocolate bar for my husband who adores white chocolate! I used parchment patterned creamy paper and stamped a selection of hearts over it in fired brick. The very cute 'Bearly Luv' (coloured in promarkers) was cut out and mounted on top, and then I finished off with a making memories ribbon and a little heart charm attached to the ribbon with jump rings.

Cazzy: was cross with the computer, I took a better photo and it wouldn't download but Monday the computer decided to play nice so here it is! I used I Have a Crush On You, sentiment and image. I coloured the image with Promarkers and used various Spellbinder dies (see my blog for details). I used very fine ribbon with several charms.

Lyn here...a wee bit late, well a lot late! I'm home and in my crafty room so I just had time to make this card using It's Bearly Lov. I've 3D-ed the heart and added some tiny scraps of ribbon and hidden the join with the bow, plus some heart brads and a flower charm.
