Welcome to Quirky Crafts Challenges

Welcome to Quirky Crafts Challenges the place where any craft project is allowed.

We're a small design team with big inspiration.

On the first Sunday of the month, at 6pm UK time, we will set a new challenge which will close on the 28th of that month at midday. The DT will pick their top three favourites and you could win a prize and join us as a Guest Designer. Winners are posted on the first Sunday in the month (midday usually) before the new challenge - don't forget to come and check if you are a winner.

Challenge #2 Midway reminder - Quirky Pets

We are halfway through our Quirky Pets challenge and it is great to see all the different entries. If you haven't already submitted your entry there is still plenty of time to join in!

Here is a reminder of what we want to see for this challenge:
As it is Pet Owner’s day on 18th April I decided to go for a quirky pets theme. For this we want to see either unusual pets, or pets doing unusual things. Our lovely sponsor for this challenge is

Here is some more inspiration from the DT:
 Jane

This time I've chosen the turtle. I used masking tape to create a panel within the frame and sponged it with distress inks, then coloured and die cut the turtle to layer on to it. I added several layers of card to match the colouring, finishing each one in a different way - deckle edge scissors, a plain straight edge and a die cut border. Heart shaped gems to match the heart on the turtle's shell are the finishing touch.
 Sue
For the mid month inspiration I used the snail, coloured with Promarkers. I doodled in the frame to add a bit of extra interest. The background paper was plain so I added some stamped hearts from the Stampin' Up Confetti stamp. It still needed something extra so I added a strip of washi tape underneath the image.
Di

Loved this little elephant. Coloured it with spectrum noir markers, layered with die cut shapes with a doily die cut underneath. The background paper is from Pink Petticoat.

As I have a wormery and therefore technically keep worms as pets I thought I would use the Worm digi for my reminder inspiration post. I coloured him in woth promarkers, and he is stripey like the worms in my wormery are :). I die-cut him into an oval and layered him onto a glitter die-cut mount. I used the same glitter to die-cut some flowers and then some patterned paper from my scrap box for a row of wildflowers. I slipped the worm in behind these so it looks as though he is creeping along. I added the flower to balance the card. Please check out my blog for more information.

Challenge #2: Quirky Pets

Hello there it is Tinz here with your new challenge at our re-vamped Quirky Challenge Blog. It is a pleasure to be working with these lovely ladies and we would love to see more of our fans joining in with us again – so let your friends know we are back :D. We also have a new DT member to share with you – please welcome Susan to the Quirky Challenge DT!

To see who won the last challenge see the previous post below this one.

 The Cutting Cafe

They provide cutting files as well as digi stamps, so 3D creations are a doddle with these files. Please feel free to use these for whatever craft medium you are comfortable with.

Not here due to personal problems, well here in the background but not created any projects.

From Tinz's choice I have selected some one of the images from the animals and bugs set...they are all so cute. I decided to make a door hanging for a child.

I designed a box frame sized to suit using Silhouette Studio and cut the pieces using my Cameo. I also made the lettering that way.
I took the image I had chosen into Craft Artist, resized it and printed multiple copies which I then cut out using my Scan and Cut.
I coloured the images using LePlume pens and decoupaged them up to give dimension.

I thought a snail would be a particularly quirky creature to have as a pet!  This little fellow and the sentiment came from the Animals and Bug Love Set.  I've layered it up with lots of snippets left from one of the free paper stacks that came with a magazine several years ago. I coloured the snail in with Promarkers then made the shell dotty by dabbing a Promarkers blender pen over it, to go with the dotty background paper.
Sue

I decided that a pink elephant would be suitably quirky! I coloured him with Promarkers and also round the edge of the frame. Mounted the image onto a scrap of black card and set it at a jaunty angle. The backing paper was some from a Simon Says Stamp card kit last year, thought the black and white doodles looked good against the pink.

Tinz (me)

I used the spider shaker card cutting set. As I do not own a Cricut or similar I simply printed out the template and made the card from this. I stamped the sentiment onto the tummey before making the shaker card and added bat sequins for the shake element.

Winners of March Challenge 2017 Quirky Picture This.

Well I think our first challenge was a bit too challenging (or too Quirky) for most people, although it really wasn't that hard if you read the details. We only had 4 entries, but they were all really good.

Here are our winners:

In first place we have:

Congratulations Lisa, you have won a Bugaboo $12 voucher!

In second place we have:

Sue with her fabulous digital scrapbook page.
Sue is in the UK so can choose a mystery ribbon bundle or a £10 voucher to spend with Crafty Ribbons. You might notice that Sue is a member of the Quirky DT, and wonder how she can win a prize - well she entered the challenge before she applied for the DT and has not yet taken part as a DT in a challenge - but she will in April! Not only that she will have some Crafty Ribbons ready for the next challenge sponsored by them!

In third place is:
Marina with her lovely fresh rowing layout.

Congratulations Marina, you have won a $3 voucher to spend at Bugaboo.

That leaves just one more entry, and we don't want to leave it out:

B.G. Payne Crafts layout of their favourite watering hole!
We want to award you a Quirky Runner's up badge.

Thank you to everyone who entered, and don't forget to check back later today to find out about our new challenge!
