Challenge #9 2013 Dark and Bright and Don't be Square - use a very dark colour with very bright colour (not black and white) and no squares or rectangles.

Welcome back to Quirky Craft's Challenge Blog! Please scroll down to the post below (or click here) to see if you were a winner of our last challenge.

It is my turn (Cazzy) to set the challenge and I want to see one very dark colour and one very bright colour as the main colour scheme of your project - this means you can only use two colours, except for white - no white allowed unless it is part of an image or sentiment!
Images can include additional colours (including white). As well as that you should not have any squares or rectangles on your project (layout pages can be normal but nothing on them should be square or rectangular). That is all then, simples!

Examples of colours you could use:
Black - bright green
Black - bright pink
Black - bright orange
Black - bright yellow
Black - bright blue
Dark Green - bright green
Dark Green - bright pink
Dark Green - bright orange
Dark Green - bright blue (maybe that would clash)
Navy or dark blue with any of the above brights,
Very dark red or purple, with any of the above brights,
and so on.
Don't forget - no white allowed except for images and sentiments!

Our sponsors this time are:

Stitchy Bear are providing first and third prizes of $8 and $2 respectively.

Digital Delights are providing a $5 voucher to our second prize winner.

Here are some lovely examples from the team to inspire you.

Guest Designer Manderly

Mandy, who is also on the Stitchy DT, said: I used Sizzix and Nellie Snellen circle dies to make this bright and dark easel card.  The image is StitchyBear's Butterfly Profile, colored with Prisma Pencils.  Cropped a few butterflies from her hair, enlarged them, and covered them with Glossy Accents and glitter.  The flowers and pearls are by Wild Orchard Crafts and they lay on a Memory Box die called Elegant Scroll.

Guest Designer Coops (Nic)
Nic used Butter Blue from Stitchy, and said: it's a triple oval easel and I have gone with dark purple and light bright green for the colours. I love the image, she is fantastic.

Guest Designer Jessie

Jessie used Little Tiggy Tiger from Stitchy Bear Digital Stamps, and coloured the image in the same colours as her background, she said it took ages to make the flowers and originally she was going to use black and pink.

I used Little Tiggy Tiger on this little easel card, and kept it fairly plain apart from adding some pearl flat backs, I love this bright green card and it matches Tiggy's eyes! I typed the sentiment and printed it, die cut it with an oval Nestie and added a flower and gem which I coloured with my bright green Promarker to match. I cut the card with a Quickutz die, now I just need to make a small envelope.

My colour choices were yellow and black (with skin tones for the hands).  This is a page of my journal which was made using mustard seed distress ink layered up to create different depths of colour.  I generated triangular rays of sun out from the hands and then stamped into them using a variety of stamps.  I then mounted the Praying hands image from Stitchy Bear, rummed it in black and put the words of the Lord's Prayer round the edge.  I finished off with little touches of sakura star dust pen.

My colours of choice were indigo and silver. I fingerpainted using three colours of acrylic paint to make the smudgy background. The image is 'Starry Eyed' from Stitchy Bear - gorgeous or what?! I coloured her in using Prismacolor pencils, which are great for blending, and then I added some little doodles with a silver gel pen. The text reads: Never forget who you are little star. Never forget how to dream (Madonna lyrics). I hope you all have big fun with this challenge!

Doris - is not very well and is under doctor's orders to stay off the computer for 36 hours. She will have a lovely project to show us all when she is well enough, which might be the reminder post next week.

Lyn - where is she????

Here I am my darlings! (((wave)) sorry I'm late, did you miss me?? Here's my card (at last) I've used Stitchy Bear's Digital Stamp called Lovestuck I've 3D-ed him and coloured with ProMarkers and added him to a bottle shaped card (Template on my blog)along with die-cuts and embossing. The font used in the sentiment is a freebie, link on my blog. All the black is card but all the gold/yellow is white card, coloured with a Promarker!

Look out for our reminder post next week for some more examples from the team.

Midway Reminder Challenge 8 Wings and Clouds Challenge

Welcome to the midway reminder of Quirky Craft's Wings and clouds Challenge. Please go HERE to add your creation to the challenge! or scroll down!

You can use any image with wings (birds, insects, dragons, fairies, angels etc) and your creation must have some clouds on it somewhere...either in the main image or in background paper. Our two sponsors, so we've had some great images to work with:

Doodle Dragon Studios is offering a $10 gift voucher for our first place winner and a $5 gift voucher for our third place winner.
Bugaboo are offering 7 images to our second place winner.

So, let's see what our team has come up with this week!!
   Lyn
For my 'wings' I've used a Bugaboo Dragon Clyde and Friend  He also comes with his own sentiment, although this time I've added my own. For my clouds I've added my own drawn ones and some freebie papers with rainbows and clouds on them! (link on blog) I've 3D-ed Clyde to make him pop out.

Well, back again, thought I'd add an oldie (but a goodie) A card I never quite finished because I couldn't find my bat punch, well punch found, so here's a Halloween card using one of Dustin's fab halloween cats...The stars and the cloud papers are PinkPetticoat and my wings are the bats!!! We don't mind you backdating a day, but don't add a creation you added to the week before's challenge!

(Some of the rest of the team might be along later......"Wake up, it's nearly bed time!")

here finally with the first of my reminder cards....
One of Dustin Pike's funny fairy froggies, this one has a jar of fireflies! I found this -paper in my stash and thought it added to the comedy. My clouds are cut with a Sizzix Framelit die which is actuallly a cup cake icing die!!
I hope to show you a Bugaboo one soon, in fact there is one image not yet used which I hope to use as soon as I can sort my printer out, this may take some time!

In this case, I worked with the design: Scene it Angel Believe, from our sponsor BugabooWhat I did was copy the file to my Silhoutte Designer, resize, trace it and cut it in a thermal adhesive. Once done, I cleaned it carefully.

Challenge #8: Quirky Wings and clouds

Welcome back to Quirky Craft's Challenge Blog! Please scroll down to the post below to see if you were a winner of our last challenge.  It is my (Caro's) turn to set the challenge this week, and as I sat looking out of my window at the birds flying through a cloudy sky I thought that our challenge should be:

Wings and clouds

So you can use any image with wings (birds, insects, dragons, fairies, angels etc) and your creation must have some clouds on it somewhere...either in the main image or in background paper etc.  Remember any creation is allowed and I can't wait to see what you come up with!

This challenge has two sponsors, so we've had some great images to work with:

Doodle Dragon Studios is offering a $10 gift voucher for our first place winner and a $5 gift voucher for our third place winner.
Bugaboo are offering 7 images to our second place winner.

So, let's see what our fabulous Guest Designer and Design Team have been up to...

Guest Designer Pauline
Pauline used Ava Fairy from Bugaboo on this very pretty card which is decorated to match inside. Hop on over to Pauline's blog to see more photos and details and to tell her you love it!

 Guest Designer Deanne
Deane used Skelekinz - Wings  from Bugaboo and did some great paper piecing with this quirky little angel. Hop on over to Deanne's blog to find out more and share the love!

Deanne also made this great paper pieced card with one of Doodle Dragon Studio's Fairy Frogmother images.

I used the very amusing Fairy Frog Mother images and sentiment by Dustin Pike of Doodle Dragon Studios. I found my DCWV clouds paper and added a strip of pink and green for the ground. Images coloured with Promarkers.

This time I used Skelekinz -Wings with Deacon Wings, they seem to be in love! I used the DCWV paper again, and you can just see houses die cut with a Sizzix on the edge Tim Holtz die. I felt something was needed in the sky and used a die I just got free with a magazine to cut a purple butterfly. Images coloured with Promarkers.

I used Ava Fairy from Bugaboo for this quirky little drawing. I sat in front of the TV with the print of this digi-stamp, trying to plan what I was going to make... and then before I knew what was going on, I'd ended up with this spontaneous little doodle. I used Prismacolor pencils to colour her in (because I just LOVE them). At one point I thought I might stick this onto a card, but now I'm thinking I should keep her and paste her into one of my journals... What do you reckon?

I used "Scene - It Spring Time" from Bugaboo to make this cute picture that would be great for a nursery.

For this multi stepped card I used the Fairy Frog Mother images from Doodle Dragon Studios, you will go to the ball!

I used ' Scene It - Believe' from Bugaboo to make an altered CD which is going to be a wall hanging for my God daughters bedroom.  I masked over the image and then used distress inks to colour the sky.  The main image was coloured using promarkers, pearlescent glue for the clouds, gold pen for the stars and sakura stardust for the wings.  I edged it with pearlescent gold embossing powder and added flowers, an angel charm and gold notes to give the impression of the angels singing.

Here's my card using a fabulous Bugaboo image, Now, I was going to 3D this, but ran out of glue! (and black ink) I've printed it over cloud backing paper from PinkPetticoat, then put the topper over the same same cloud paper, only it has slightly bigger clouds, that's the beauty of digi downloads! Then fixed over some stripes. The arrow, threw itself at me, so I thought I'd better used it! I was going to add flowers, but they didn't look right. (So I fixed them on the next card! Here it is...

This time I've used one of Dustin's super digi's, this fairy Frog! Coloured her with ProMarkers and managed to 3D her too, only I think I cut off too many legs! I've also printing her over the same clouds backing paper as above. My black ink gave up the ghost so I've printed the sentiment in pink (and above too) and I think it looks even better! So, Pink's the new Black!

Aren't these great?!

We will post a reminder next week with some more examples from the team!

Please add a link to your blog post (not your blog) by right clicking on the post title and copying, then pasting (right click again) into the Inlinkz form, or link your online photo gallery, SCS etc. using the button below.

Remember, to be eligible for one of our prizes you can use the sketch but you don't have too! But you MUST use something from the bingo box! As many things as you like!

Our fantastic sponsors this fortnight are ...
Who are kindly offering our First Prize winner 5 Digital Images
and Our Third prize winner 3 Digital images!
and

Digital Delights
Who are offering our second prize winner $5 to spend
in the Digital Delights Store!

Here's some more fantastic inspiration from our Designers using Digital Images from Robyn's Fetish!!

From Lyn's 'Bingo Box' I used tin foil, torn paper and mock stitching... I started using the sketch too but my muse took control and went her own way! The image is 'blissful angel' from Robyn's Fetish... I love her pink hair! The background started off as acrylic paint with black doodles on, then I added some torn paper I'd painted for a different project to create the border. The tin foil is actually tin foil tape- I found it in the £1 shop and I don't really know what it's for, but I love it! Next came some journaling and doodles written in correction fluid, and then finally I added my angel, coloured with a mixture of felt-tips, pencil crayons and gel-pen. I hope you're all having as much fun with this challenge as I did!

I chose this happy little elephant for my second card, one I'd had before from our sponsors Robyn's Fetish. I've 3D-ed him and coloured with a number of grey ProMarkers. The pink paper behind him is also from Robyn's Fetish, the others are from a Me to You paper stack. Like Daire, I started using the Sketch too and then....well, when rectangle instead of circle, but that doesn't matter, you can do the same too! From the Bingo I've used metal brads, that little trumpet is also a brad, quite thin tin. I've added embossed corner peel-offs, mock stitching, ribbon and bakers twine. I think it needs something else, so I might swipe it back and add it later!

The card is made in plain colored cartons in different colors. I use emboss, punch, yarn, ribbon, charm, chalk pastel, flowers, tulle, aluminum figures and Katie Reading image from our sponsor Robyn's Fetish. I trace the image in my Cameo, then ungroup and then I gave color. After I grouped the image and finally I printed and cut.
Cazzy (sneaking in on Monday)
This image from Robyn's Fetish is called Strawberry Delight, and I wanted a bright cheerful card. I tore the panel of card (tearing from the grid) and added two eyelets (metal from the grid) and die cut the image and mat. The sentiment is heat embossed (note to self - do not put thumbs or fingers on newly heat embossed sentiments - even if the card curled up and wanted flattening! Wait until it has cooled and set!).

The other's might pop in later with some more makes, but it is Sunday!
