Dike and sealevel

Walking up the dike in Almere feels always a bit to the end of the world.

But it's not too bad.

Summer at last

The weather changed from winter to summer in one day so everybody jumped on their bikes this weekend to enjoy the warm temperatures.

A little break at the dike with the Gooilake in Almere Haven.

The Dike

Making a walk across the dike I spotted this old man looking out over the Gooi-lake in Almere Haven.

The dike is also a beloved place for people to let their dog out.

Horses

After all the rain we had last months the fields are soaked now. As here at the local horse riding school in Almere Haven.

A little further on the fields have a better drainage. These are private horses of people who own them as a hobby. A lot more work than my kitty at home...

Shall I take a picture of you two? It was alright.

At the dike

Loyal followers of my blog know I live near a dike where I love to have a walk with the wind in my hair. Last sunday we had another unusual sunny warm day in november so I was not the only one. This senior was biking against the wind.

These two were enjoying a back wind.

The ladies prevered a walk, the fences are placed to prevent cars to drive through. This piece of the dike is for pedestrians only. Our local municipal councel has plans to change this in a freeway, everything for the holy car, but no one here agrees with that.

And a great view at the Gooi lake with the autumn sun.

Dike in Amsterdam

A reflection of a piece of art in the water of the Ringdijk (dike) in Amsterdam. I couldn't find any information about the art but it is interesting to see a dike in Amsterdam.

Within the territory of the municipality of Amsterdam several polders were surrounded by a ring dike. A stil intact ring dike is around Watergraafsmeer an area in the East part of Amsterdam. At the right you can see a path up to the dike.

This dike surrounds the lowermost part of Amsterdam and here a view down at this old house at the lower side behind the dike.

And this is the higher part of this area with houses opposite.

Skywatches

Between the showers we tried to have some fresh air and to strech our legs, so we had a walk over the dike near our home. We had a great view at the clouds rolling over our heads.

Sometimes dark ones.

And this is our stairway to heaven. We made it  home without a downpour only a brief rain shower.

Living behind the dikes

Living in a country below sealevel you can see very well in the village Almere Haven where I live. The village is not situated very close behind the dikes  but recently new neighbourhoods are built  rather close behind the dikes.

Standing on the dike you could have a look in the surroundings of these very expensive houses with swimmingpools in their garden. Fast growing hedges and trees were planted to have some privacy.

The orange house is a living for five families each with their own part.

Shadow Shot Sunday

The days are changing from heavy rainfall to quiet sunshine with long shadows. This is the dike in Almere Haven with some stables for people who have a horse of their own. The backyards are to small here to have your horse near the house, so you can hire this facillity.

Heavy storm

We are having a very heavy storm  at the moment. This picture is of hubby from 2011 when we went to the dike to make pictures of the wild water. We don't dare to go out at the moment it is to scary, the heaviest storm since 20 years it is called. Coming from the UK over the Northsea to our coast and now raging over our country.

Latest update!
When I had just finished my post our neighbour came along to tell us that behind our home a tree had come down.

Luckily nobody harmed and no damaged homes or cars.

Stormy weather

Yesterday we had our first heavy November storm with a speed of 100 kilometers an hour in some places. I always walk to the dike close to my home to watch the water and feel the wind in my hair. There were white tops on the waves and I couldn't hold my camera steady in the wind

.This is a photo of me another year made by hubby SC who has a cold now and couldn't accompany me.

On the dike in Almere you always find people cycling or skating against the wind. That's why we have more and more these wind turbines in many windy places to generate energy. It is for a good cause but sometimes I feel sorry for the landscape changing.

Who let the horse out?

In Almere Haven you can have your own horse close to your home. A few stables are situated just behind the dike so you can see people letting their dogs out and their horses as well.

Dike

Last Sunday I was walking on my own along the dike in Almere, hubby was lying in bed with a flu.
It was funny to see what people do on a Sunday on a dike.

And what seagulls do.

I tried for half an hour to catch one in flight, but they were flying too fast all the time. This is the best I have. I presume some people thought what is that silly lady doing, making photo's of the asphalt and the air?

Stormy weather

After the fog we now have a november storm to blow the fog away. I love it to walk over the dike in Almere and feel the wind blowing through my hair. These three bikers had the wind behind so it was a easy go.
The duckies were floating by with high speed.

Autumn weekend

Autumn has really started here now, cold nights and mornings 2 degrees C (35.6 F)  and then a day full of sunshine which does the temperature rise to 14 degrees C (57.2). A good day to bike over the dike in Almere. The two men near the car were of Birdwatch and spotting birds, the barn-swallow,  who should have left our country already to the warm south countries, but still are flying around here. Maybe because of the warm "Indian Summer" we had lately, they are still hanging around here. Come on boys go south, it is becoming cold here.

We cycled home through the woods over small bumpy roads.
