CATCHING UP

A couple of my recent posts were not really complete, As a result I have people asking questions.

I should have had a photo of my Christmas cactus so here it is. This plant blooms in November, Christmas and Easter. So it blooms three times a year. There are a variety of colors and times of bloom. A person should really have more than one plant.

I have been retired for almost 28 years. I taught for 37.116 years. I did not get full pension as some of my Arctic time was not counted.

So this shows that I still have a difficulty with organization. I would being doing a lesson plan after school and suddenly I would see that I should have ordered a film last week. I would go down to Central Office and ask if they would please let me have the film. After a bit of a lecture and wink , wink I would get my film but I had to go down and get it and not get it in the delivery.

  1. Red, Thanks for the picture of your Christmas cactus. It’s a nice plant and looks to be in healthy condition to me. Sorry for the questions! 😊 So, does the plant in the picture go all the way back to 1982? To my count that’s 42 years … Wow! Congratulations for teaching for 37+ years AND being retired for almost 28! Red, your story is interesting! John

    1. This plant comes from a cutting of the original plant I was given in 1982. As I gave it a haircut in the summer , you are looking at the new shoots.

  3. Your cactus blooms three times a year??? That's amazing! Can you tell me about placement? Mine is in a eastern window, on a table. The fact that you have three different colors makes me think that you've got three different species in the same pot. That's pretty neat though!

    1. These plants can take a beating. The Micro Manager thought they were cactus and needed very little water. It survived bet didn't bloom.

  7. Years ago I had a Christmas cactus for quite awhile but I found I was not around enough to take good care of it. In your photo of the cactus, is that a painting of poppies in the background?

  11. You are still being an educator Mr. Red. Bummer they "froze" some funds because of being devoted to the artic folks. I think they should have doubled it. Linda in Kansas

  13. Oh, I never would have guessed that you were a disorganized person, Red! You seem so wise in your posts and you've had so many adventures in your life. I'm keeping an eye on my Christmas cacti (I have 2) and am hoping for more blooms soon! ;)

    1. I know the feeling of limited advanced planning. The plant looks great as they are new shoots that are showing.

I would be one of those ringing and sweet talking somebody for my film. My daughters say I'm chaotic.
Oh well, I managed to raise some spectacular individuals and you have had a rich and varied life. It's the chaos of creativity

  18. That old photo brought back memories of junior high. I think I recognized Mr. Washinski, probably not how it's spelled. I remember all the reactions when we found out his first name was Napoleon (don't even know if that was true). Teachers were not people, just teachers. I guess all kids are like that, shocked to realize that grown ups are people too.
