Experimental constructions

In Almere Haven are a few places where you can build your dreamhouse without all the building restrictions by the government. A contest was held to design a house and seventeen winners were allowed to build here in the "Reality quarter". Here somebody made a kind of hobbit home.

The houses were built in 1977 and after 5 years they had to be demolished, but by their succes they are still there and inhabited.

Water gate

The Waterpoort  is a water gate, a gate in a defensive wall that connects a city to a waterway. It is situated in Sneek a little city in the province Friesland in the north of the country.

In the 15th and 16th century, a defensive wall had been built around Sneek. The city lay on the important trade route between Leeuwarden and Stavoren, from which the rich western parts of the Netherlands (now North Holland and South Holland) could be reached. To facilitate this trade, a new harbour called the "Kolk" was built to the southwest of the city and in 1613 the Waterpoort was erected to connect city and harbour. It formed part of the city walls, but when large parts of these were demolished in the early 18th century, it was decided to leave the Waterpoort intact.

Men at work

Drinking a cup tea and enjoying a piece of cheesecake, I had a nice view at a new shopping mall in construction in the Hague.

It was interesting to watch how the men made a floor.

In Amsterdam this man was at work with a new bridge with his excavator.

And this poor guy has a heavy job to hold the whole world on his neck.

Decorated entrance

Some entrances of homes in Amsterdam are decorated with painted tiles.
