This article presents a detailed analysis of the work of Jules Perahim, with a particular focus on his engravings which are now part of the collection of the Brukenthal National
Museum and have never been exhibited before. The work explores the aesthetic and technical aspects of these etchings, as well as the historical and political context in which the artist created them. Perahim maded use of the symbolic and metaphorical artistic language to subversively address social and political issues, thus stimulating critical reflection on the realities of the early communist period in Romania. The etchings reflect the social and political tensions of the time and they reveal restrictions of individual freedoms, mass manipulation, and political corruption. His collaboration with the poet Gellu Naum is transparent through the profound dimension that illustrates the experience of communist political prisoners in the Doftana penitentiary while also functioning as an implicit critique of the communist regime.
In this way, these creations become not only instruments of propaganda but also means of intellectual and artistic dialogue, stimulating opposition and the desire for change in a context marked by ideological and cultural constraints.

This study explores the newspaper illustrations associated with the Civil War Battle of Wilson’s Creek which took place near Springfield, Missouri. Within three weeks of this August 10, 1861, encounter, five published images of the battle appeared in the widely-circulated, New York-based newspapers, Harper’s Weekly and Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper. Like most illustrations in Civil War papers, these early depictions of the Battle of Wilson’s Creek are understudied. Scholars have yet to address these images as imaginative constructions with roots in the Western visual tradition. Understanding these roots and their iconographic implications provides important insights into the cultural and social history of the Civil War era.

This paper explores how the illustrators’ allusions to earlier heroic and religious images encouraged audiences to see General Nathaniel Lyon (the first Union general to die in the Civil War) as a martyr to the federal cause.  Four of the five aforementioned images portray Lyon’s fatal charge, his fall, or his battlefield death.  Elements such as Lyon’s hat and his horse became powerful signifiers that reinforced the heroic narrative that was constructed for the general in the Union press. When one learns to “read” these images, it becomes clear that they are subjective inventions that advance an emphatically Northern viewpoint.  Without an illustrated paper in 1861, the South had no organ to advance a pro-Southern vision of the Wilson’s Creek battle. Subsequently, the visual traditions begun by the Northern papers continued throughout the nineteenth century.

Presentat dins la IV Jornada Col·leccionistes que han fet museus celebrada al MNAC el 24 d'abril de 2023,  amb aquest treball s'ha volgut ressaltar la figura de l'heterogeni col·leccionista Frederic Travé i Alfonso, tot focalitzant l'interès últim en el cor de la seva biblioteca de mitologia clàssica -adquirida per la Biblioteca de Catalunya l’any 1997- és a dir, en el seu contingut de literatura artística, amb notables edicions que van des del segle XVI al XIX. Aquest nucli  constitueix, de fet, més d’un terç de la seva col·lecció bibliogràfica.

Tanmateix també fem esment de les seves altres passions, i que derivaren en altres tantes col·leccions, com les d'ornitologia -amb aviari inclòs on mantingué alguns exemplars vius-, malacologia, paleontologia, botànica -amb grans ajardinaments a la seva finca de Cubelles que inclogueren exemplars catalogats-, parafernàlia militar i ferroviària, jocs i joguines, bastons, literatura de viatges i exploració, etc., per no deixar d'esmentar una notable pinacoteca, objectes decoratius diversos, mobles d'estil Imperi, etc. Tot això ho atresorà a Can Travé, la casa d'estiueig de Cubelles heretada dels seus progenitors.

Totes aquestes col·leccions eren disposades a les diferents estances d'aquesta gran casa que habitava amb la seva família només els estius, i que en vida seva anà redefinint tant exteriorment com interior -en les successives reformes i addicions-, a la manera clàssica, amb tot tipus de decoració escultòrica basada en còpies d'obres clàssiques com el Discòbol, soldadesca romana, Atenees, putti, tondos, retrats romans, fonts i llacs monumentals, etc.

Amb aquest treball es fa aflorar també una part de la seva col·lecció d'estampes, adquirida junt amb els llibres però no sent  inclosa al catàleg imprès de la Biblioteca Mitològica publicat l'any 2001. Així, analitzem dues sèries incompletes de gravats del segle XVIII d'un alt valor artístic i patrimonial, així com les pàgines retallades d’un llibre de gran importància del segle XVII com fou el 'Colonna Traiana eretta dal popolo...' amb dibuixos d'Errard gravats per Bartoli i que Trave considerà idonis per a decorar longitudinalment la sala de la seva biblioteca. Val a dir que un exemplar d:aquesta joia bibliogràfica, en la seva primera edició de 1672, ha estat recentment adquirida per la BC completant, de la millor de les maneres, la col·lecció de Travé.

Un altre tipus de gravats, aquests dins l'esfera de les arts decoratives, son els papers pintats de Can Travé, tant els de les estances de la casa com de la Biblioteca, exemples alguns d'ells del luxe amb que es va rodejar Travé. Un d'ells, amb el cicle de Psique, decorava part de la seva Biblioteca i també formà part de la compra de la BC de l'any 1997.

[FR] L’ŒUVRE CARTOGRAPHIQUE DE GIOVANNI BRENNA, INGÉNIEUR GÉOGRAPHE À LA RETRAITE. EXPÉRIENCES DE RECHERCHE ET RÉFLEXIONS – Giovanni Brenna (1779-1854), milanais, premier lieutenant ingénieur géographe du Bureau topographique italien et dans l’ultérieur Institut Géographique Militaire autrichien de Milan, il occupe certainement une place de choix parmi les figures de la histoire – je dis juste – mineure de la cartographie. Il ne s’agit pas tant de l’activité exercée pendant les années de service que de ce qui a été réalisé au moment de la retraite. Son œuvre la plus significative est la Carta topografica dei Contorni di Milano publié à partir de 1833 (rapport 1/25.000), avec des fiches d’extension ultérieures décrivant une grande partie de la Brianza et celle de la Bergamasque proche de l’Adda. La numérisation des cartes conservés dans les bibliothèques et les universités, ainsi que d’autres appartenant à des collections privées ou en vente chez certains antiquaires, a contribué à approfondir la connaissance de ces matériaux, en étendant l’intérêt pour eux à un public plus large. En même temps, cela nous a permis de comparer directement les différents spécimens, faisant ressortir des détails utiles pour intégrer ce que nous connaissions. Ce texte rassemble les résultats et les réflexions de plusieurs années d’études menées sur cette figure presque oubliée du domaine de la cartographie, en essayant de reconstituer sa production et de proposer enfin un exhaustive un point de référence de ce qui est connu à partir duquel commencer de futures recherches.

[IT] L’OPERA CARTOGRAFICA DI GIOVANNI BRENNA, INGEGNERE GEOGRAFO IN PENSIONE. ESPERIENZE DI RICERCA E RIFLESSIONI – Tra le figure che costellano quella che può esser definita la storia minore della cartografia, Giovanni Brenna (1779-1854), milanese, già primo tenente ingegnere geografo del Corpo topografico italiano e nell’Imperial Regio Istituto Geografico Militare austriaco, occupa certamente un posto di rilievo, non tanto per la sua attività negli anni di servizio, quanto per ciò che realizzò una volta in pensione. Della sua più che ventennale opera, il contributo più significativo appare la Carta topografica dei Contorni di Milano (scala 1/25.000) pubblicata a partire dal 1833, con le successive estensioni nelle quali rilevò buona parte della Brianza e quel tratto della Bergamasca a ridosso dell’Adda. La progressiva digitalizzazione di quanto conservato nelle biblioteche e nelle università, come anche di singole carte appartenenti a collezioni private o in vendita presso alcuni antiquari, ha contribuito a estendere la conoscenza di questi materiali a un pubblico più vasto, rinnovando l’interesse verso di esso. Al contempo, ha reso possibile il confronto diretto tra i diversi esemplari, facendo emergere dettagli utili a integrare le conoscenze di quanto finora noto. Questo testo raccoglie i risultati e le riflessioni scaturite da alcuni anni di studio condotti su questa figura pressoché dimenticata nell’ambito della cartografia, cercando di ricomporre i tasselli della sua produzione e di offrire un quadro finalmente esaustivo di quanto fin qui noto. Inoltre, spera di rappresentare il punto di partenza per future ricerche, finalizzate al ritrovamento di materiali attualmente non noti, magari inediti o manoscritti.

Pictorial journalism in the latter nineteenth century faced a temporal conundrum: whereas words could travel by telegraph and hence at the speed of electricity, the accompanying illustrations had to travel as material objects and were chronically belated. This article analyzes the strategies with which two prominent Victorian weekly papers—Illustrated London News and Punch—sought to deal with the slowness of illustration and reconcile the speed differentials between textual and visual news with their printing deadlines and production cycles. The most striking of these strat- egies was to deploy an ‘oracular pencil’ to work up an illustration before an event had taken place. These pre-produced illustrations relied on specific visual codes that shaped the illustrations’ ‘truth.’ The article shows that, contrary to the self-positioning of pictorial journalists as reporting truthfully and speedily on the world ‘out there,’ the pictorial press had its own temporal and epistemological laws.

La imagen de un escritor en su cátedra es representada en códices, lienzos y grabados desde la Edad Media y durante la Edad Moderna con un claro significado. Dentro de esta tradición, un taco xilográfico en el que se representa de esta manera al historiador Tito Livio, identificado por una cartela, aparece en las prensas incunables salmantinas y, posteriormente, una imagen similar, pero no idéntica, se muestra en otras imprentas hispanas de las dos primeras décadas del siglo XVI, lo que constata, por una parte, el intercambio, la compraventa o el traspaso de modelos y materiales entre los primitivos talleres impresores peninsulares, y por otra, la copia no sólo de los textos, sino también de las ilustraciones que los acompañan, e incluso, la pervivencia de determinadas estampas en las que, aún manteniendo su significado original, han perdido el de la identidad personal y son reutilizadas en obras para las que no habían sido imaginadas ni talladas.

W dniu 24.03.2022 r. Narodowy Instytut Polskiego Dziedzictwa Kulturowego za Granicą „Polonika” zorganizował spotkanie autorskie z Małgorzatą Biłozór-Salwą poświęcone twórczości Jana Ziarnko – lwowskiego XVII-wiecznego artysty znanego pod przydomkami: Jean le Grain, A. Grano, Leopoliensis czy Ziarnko Polonus.
Spotkanie otworzyła Dorota Janiszewska-Jakubiak (dyrektor Instytutu Polonika) i Frédéric Constant (kierownik mediateki Instytutu Francuskiego w Polsce). Wzięli w nim udział dr Małgorzata Biłozór-Salwa (autorka książki, kuratorka rysunków artystycznych XVI-XVIII w. w Gabinecie Rycin Biblioteki Uniwersyteckiej w Warszawie), dr hab. Jolanta Talbierska (recenzentka książki, kierownik Gabinetu Rycin Biblioteki Uniwersyteckiej w Warszawie) oraz dr Olga Kucharczyk (moderator spotkania, koordynator projektu wydawniczego w Instytucie „Polonika” - Program Strategiczny Badania). Ilustrowana monografia „Jan Ziarnko czy Jean le Grain? Twórczość lwowskiego artysty w XVII wiecznym Paryżu” wzbogaciła serię wydawniczą „Studia i Materiały” Instytutu.
Książka jest wnikliwą analizą stylistyczną prac Jana Ziarnki oraz nowatorską ich reinterpretacją, ukazuje zupełnie nieznane dotychczas oblicze tego wyjątkowego w całej historii grafiki polskiej, a nawet europejskiej, Polaka-erudyty. Małgorzata Biłozór-Salwa, pisząc o losach i twórczości wziętego w dalekim Paryżu „Polonusie”, bardzo ciekawie opisuje realia epoki ówczesnego Lwowa, Krakowa i Paryża wraz ze wszelkimi uwarunkowaniami niełatwego dla artystów rynku graficznego. Prace renomowanego Jana Ziarnki trafiały na afisze, do almanachów czy kalendarzy, stanowiły ilustracje do alegorycznych druków politycznych. Jako dokumentalista epoki i propagator idei politycznych niejako pośredniczył między władzą a ludem.

Nella Passio di sant'Evasio, databile tra 714 e 729, è trascritto un epitaffio dedicato a Natale, capo di una comunità di chierici già esistente a Casale Sancti Evasii ben prima del X secolo, quando è documentata una pieve dedicata al santo (settia 1983, pp. 107-108). Entrato negli studi come lavoro locale del XV secolo (Gotico e Rinascimento 1939, p. 251), il busto argenteo di san Natale è stato assegnato a un orafo bresciano da Carlo Caramellino con questa motivazione:

An illumination in a Gonzaga manuscript of the second half of the 15th century clearly reveals an original reference to the "Virgin and Child with Saint George and Saint Anthony Abbot", the only existing painting signed by Pisanello. This tribute, made by an unknown Lombard illuminator, adds new important elements to the theory that the above mentioned painting, on display in the National Gallery in London, was commissioned by the Gonzaga family.

Michel Quagliozzi Les Six suittes de clavessin de François Dieupart 2 sont aujourd'hui bien connues du public et constituent une référence incontournable du répertoire, particulièrement appréciée pour l'originalité de son inspiration et pour la finesse de son écriture. Leur influence sur les suites dites « anglaises » de Jean-Sébastien Bach a très tôt été signalée par Dannreuther 3 et les circonstances qui permirent au futur cantor de recopier l'exemplaire ramené de Hollande par le jeune prince Johann-Ernest de Saxe-Weimar sont bien documentées. Largement diffusée par le réseau de revendeurs d'Étienne Roger 4 , la musique de Dieupart faisait assurément partie du répertoire de tout claveciniste épris de ces « bons vieux français » que Bach affectionnait tant 5. La découverte récente de cinq concertos inconnus dans le fonds « Schrank II » de la Hofkapelle de Dresde vient éclairer son activité créatrice d'un jour nouveau et laisse entrevoir une production plus riche et plus variée qu'on ne le pensait jusqu'alors 6. Si la musique de Dieupart commence à réintégrer sa place dans le paysage musical, l'identité du compositeur est demeurée jusqu'ici assez mystérieuse. Ceci est dû à la rareté des sources historiques et à leurs ambiguïtés, qui suggèrent l'existence de deux personnages distincts : Charles et François. L'indécision des éditeurs modernes illustre en permanence l'inconfort de cette situation : optant tantôt pour l'un, tantôt pour l'autre, certains vont jusqu'à adopter un hypothétique Charles-François dont l'identité spéculée n'a pour seul avantage que de contenter les deux partis à la fois. Fruit d'une recherche commencée en 2007, cette étude se propose de trancher définitivement le débat par la mise en évidence de sources d'archives nouvelles qui établissent de façon incontestable l'identité de « M r Dieupart ». Ce premier article, consacré à sa famille, à sa jeunesse et à sa formation, sera suivi d'un second volet dévolu à sa carrière anglaise et d'un troisième qui traitera de son retour définitif en France. Évidences documentaires Pendant longtemps, Dieupart se prénomma Charles : une évidence qu'aucun spécialiste de l'histoire de l'opéra en Angleterre n'avait de raison de remettre en question. In order to reduce the security risk of a commercial aircraft, passengers are not allowed to take certain items in their carry-on baggage. For this reason, human operators are trained to detect prohibited items using a manually controlled baggage screening process. In this paper, we propose the use of an automated method based on multiple X-ray views to recognize certain regular objects with highly defined shapes and sizes. The method consists of two steps: 'monocular analysis', to obtain possible detections in each view of a sequence, and 'multiple view analysis', to recognize the objects of interest using matchings in all views. The search for matching candidates is efficiently performed using a lookup table that is computed off-line. In order to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, experimental results on recognizing regular objects-clips, springs and razor blades-in pen cases are shown achieving high precision and recall (P r = 95.7% , Re = 92.5%) for 120 objects. We believe that it would be possible to design an automated aid in a target detection task using the proposed algorithm.

In this paper, we present a new dataset consisting of 19,407 X-ray images. The images are organized in a public database called GDXray that can be used free of charge, but for research and educational purposes only. The database includes five groups of X-ray images: castings, welds, baggage, natural objects and settings. Each group has several series, and each series several X-ray images. Most of the series are annotated or labeled. In such cases, the coordinates of the bounding boxes of the objects of interest or the labels of the images are available in standard text files. The size of GDXray is 3.5 GB and it can be downloaded from our website. We believe that GDXray represents a relevant contribution to the X-ray testing community. On the one hand, students, researchers and engineers can use these X-ray images to develop, test and evaluate image analysis and computer vision algorithms without purchasing expensive X-ray equipment. On the other hand, these images can be used as a benchmark in order to test and compare the performance of different approaches on the same data. A new acquisition in the Hungarian National Gallery bears elaborate drawings of a statue in pencil and ink. One of them is an almost faithful depiction of the Sándor Petőfi monument in Pest, a work by Miklós Izsó in 1873. The article re-indentifies the drawings as preparatory drawings for a wood engraving in a contemporary illustrated journal, done by Bertalan Székely, a prominent 19th century artist and a good friend of Izsó.

A kép tárgyilagos szemléletmódja mintha előrevetítené az ábrázolt későbbi sorsát, ő lett ugyanis a család leghíresebb tagja. Külföldi tanulmányai befejezése után 1875-től a fejlődéstan tanára, majd Lenhossék halála után 1888-ban a Bonctani Intézet igazgatója lett, 1879-ben a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia levelező, 1886-ban pedig rendes tagjai sorába választotta.

This article analyzes the woodcuts that illustrate the Thesoro de la Passion by Andrés de Li. This book was printed in 1494 in Zaragoza in the printing house of Pablo Hurus. It is an extensive devotional work made up of one hundred and twenty folios that chronologically cover the most significant episodes of the public life and passion of Christ. The prints are conceived as complements to the text and their distribution is related to the demands of the text. Although some of the woodcuts are reminiscent of Martin Schongauer's Passion intaglio prints and Delbecq-Schreiber's Passion engravings, the references must have come, directly or indirectly, from different sources: from miniated manuscripts, from traditional imagery and, of course, from Central European engravings, which at this time constituted an important trade in the book trade.

Cristoforo Luvoni - originario di Seregno - è documentato nel cantiere della Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano dal 1450 al 1481, impegnato prevalentemente in attività mercantili: prima guardiano delle chiuse del laghetto di Santo Stefano, dove approdavano i marmi necessari alla costruzione della Cattedrale, poi pesatore del marmo medesimo e più tardi anche amministratore. Per il Duomo milanese risulta attestata inoltre una sua attività di lapicida, e, benché nessuna statua sulla scorta di documenti gli sia assegnabile con assoluta certezza, negli ultimi anni gli sono state riferite una serie di sculture sulla base di confronti stilistici con le uniche due opere certe realizzate dal maestro a Milano: il monumento funebre di Andrea e Antonio Birago nella Chiesa di San Marco (1455) e il portale con l’‘Annunciazione’ della Ca’ Granda (1465).
Se l’attività milanese dello scultore è stata ben analizzata dalla critica più recente, per nulla indagato è invece il suo intervento ad Arona, dove sopravvive un rilievo con una ‘Madonna seduta in trono col Bambino’ firmato e datato (1450) e dove suoi lavori nella Chiesa dei Martiri sono certamente attestati da un documento (1477).
Pure presso la Certosa di Pavia, uno tra i più febbrili cantieri scultorei del Rinascimento lombardo, Cristoforo Luvoni risulta certamente documentato nel 1464 in un registro di spese, il cosiddetto ‘Liber divisatus signatus A’. Dalle informazioni ricavate dalla lettura di alcune voci di questo libro paga - tuttora conservato presso l’archivio del cenobio pavese - e per mezzo di raffronti stilistici con i lavori milanesi è possibile ricondurre al maestro alcune sculture ancora oggi osservabili in Certosa.

rischen  Rahmen  einer  visuellen  Kultur  behandeln
(Mitchell 2008; Frank/Lange 2010). Die Erforschung
dieses Zusammenhangs geht notwendig über die eng
begrenzten  Objektbereiche  der  Kunst-  und  Litera-
turgeschichte  hinaus,  denn  sie  setzt  alle  Bilder,  alle
Konzepte und Weisen des (primär sehenden) Wahr-
nehmens  und  des  Umgangs  mit  dem  Sichtbaren
miteinander ins Verhältnis: non-verbale wie verbale,
praktische wie kognitive.

Le duc de Lorraine Charles III s’est rendu à Paris en septembre 1581 pour assister aux noces de Marguerite de Vaudémont, sa pupille et cousine, avec Anne de Joyeuse, favori du roi. Les fiançailles eurent lieu au Louvre le 19 et le mariage le dimanche 24. L’événement fut l’occasion à la cour de grandes festivités qui durèrent un mois. On retient surtout le « ballet comique de la reine », qui fut représenté le 15 octobre. Ce spectacle, qui fut réalisé par le musicien et maître à danser Balthasar de Beaujoyeux, est resté en mémoire parce qu’on prit soin d’imprimer le « livret », comportant la scénographie, les vers et les principaux airs. Le duc Charles III ne rentra en Lorraine qu’au début de décembre. On s’est efforcé dans cette communication de le suivre pas à pas tout au long de son séjour et d’en rapporter les moments essentiels, d’en souligner le caractère politique, sans négliger les détails savoureux.

Maria Josepa Colom fou una de les gravadores catalanes més reputades de la seva generació, autora d'una obra trenada fermament a la tradició i que, a la vegada, incorporà idees covades en la diversa escena artística catalana i europea del moment. Assolí l'èxit a nivell nacional i internacional i, en paral•lel, fou professora de gravat calcogràfic al Conservatori de les Arts del Llibre, des d'on molts artistes reconeguts reberen les seves ensenyances. Aquest treball se centra en la seva carrera com a gravadora, des de la figuració naturalista lligada a inèrcies del noucentisme tardà de la que parteix, fins assolir una veu pròpia en un panorama on era difícil destacar, tant pel context de repressió política i social, com per la diversitat de tendències figuratives i abstractes en joc. Des de la voluntat per plasmar universals a partir de l'anècdota, l'exotisme, la mitologia, la religió, etc., Colom encaixà en la modernitat figurativa catalana del moment, arribant a conrear a la seva darrera etapa una figuració que, en part, entronca amb els nous camins que les arts plàstiques prengueren vers la postmodernitat.

The paper examines the relationship between Boccaccio Boccaccino and the figurative culture of the Venetian Renaissance at the beginning of the sixteenth century. Starting with two panels in the Museo Correr (Virgin with Child; Virgin with Child between St. John the Baptist and St. Catherine of Alexandria), the study focuses on two successful iconographic themes in the painter's work, namely the more canonical devotional image of the Virgin with Child and the so-called "sacra conversazione" in half-length figures. It emerges that the painter, drawing on explicit Bellinian tradition, approaches these two themes by reinterpreting them in light of the innovations of Giorgione, whom he became acquainted with during his long stay in Venice from 1500 to 1506.

La fête de cour constitue le lieu par excellence de la création collective : artistes et artisans sont amenés à travailler ensemble à la confection des décors et des costumes et il est souvent nécessaire d'avoir recours à plusieurs plumes pour fournir l'immense masse poétique attendue en de telles circonstances. Pour les grandes fêtes royales, les poètes de cour sont bien sûr sollicités mais ils sont sans doute souvent amenés à travailler en collaboration avec des secrétaires afin de rédiger toutes les contributions poétiques nécessaires à la tenue d'une fête.

El control bibliográfico mundial de los incunables es alto, con más de 30.500 ediciones registradas en los catálogos colectivos. Sin embargo, no siempre la noticia de la existencia de un incunable es incorporada a estos catálogos, bien porque no se comunican los hallazgos, bien porque circula en ámbitos lejanos al bibliográfico. Este último caso es el de las Ordenanzas de la Villa de Cuéllar y su Tierra, un incunable conocido en el ámbito regional por regular la vida de la zona en el siglo xv, pero no controlado en el ámbito de la bibliografía. En este artículo se analizan las causas y se identifica el incunable, impreso en el taller de Juan de Burgos en Valladolid.

The first attempts to use etching in printmaking were, according to André Blum, in the early XV th. Century: "Quelquefois même des irregularités de taille d'une épaisseur d'encre en relief laiserait même supposer de l'eau-forte aurait été pratiquée dans les premières années du XVè. siècle, comme l'indique un manuscrit de 1431 de Jehan le Bégue à la Bibliothèque Nationale (ms. One of the first persons to use etching was Urs Graf (Soleure 1485-Bâle 1527). His first known prints are from 1513. Two years later, Albert Dürer used acids to etch iron. Apart from these first sporadic uses, the Italian painter Givolano Francesco Maria Mazzouli, well known as Parmigiano (Parma 1503-Casalmaggiore 1540), is one of the pioneers of etching. From 1530 he strongly promoted the use of acid in printmaking. Antonio da Trento, one of his disciples, exported the new technique to France. There he was associated with the Fontainebleau painters and from there it spread all over Europe, from the second half XVI th century. Benvenuto Cellini (1500-1571) sculptor and jeweller, was a contemporary of Parmigiano. In addition to working in Florence and Rome he also worked in 1 Blum, A. Les origines du papier. (Paris: La Tournelle, 1935), p. 164 Author's note: At the beginning of the XV th. Century some irregularities in the marks are noticed as if they had been etched. So, we deduced that etching has first been used in the first years of the XV th. Century as it is indicated on the 1431 manuscript of Jehan Bégue located in the National Library (ms Lat.6741). It is nearly one hundred years before Urs Graf, Dürer, Mazzouli of Parme (called Parmegiano) and Lucas of Leyden were considered as the ancestors of this technique.

Tríptic de l'exposició sobre M. J. Colom comissariada per Roser Insenser i Xavier Soler Àvila realitzada a l'Espai Zero de la Biblioteca de Catalunya del 12 de setembre al 22 d'octubre de 2022. Inclou informació general i detallada de les vitrines. La mostra ens endinsa en l'obra de Colom a partir d'una selecció d'estampes i dibuixos seus del fons donat a la BC pel seu hereu Miquel Espot. Arran d'aquesta exposició es va realitzar una taula rodona on varen participar Marià Casas Hierro (RACBASJ i Associació Catalana d'Exlibristes), Rosa Vives i Pique (RACBASJ i Catedràtica emèrita de gravat) i Miquel Vilà Burgos (pintor i gravador).

L'indagine su alcuni inediti clipei realizzati nel 1498 dal lapicida lombardo Giovanni Antonio Pilacorte (1455-1531) nel duomo di Spilimbergo , ha portato ad identificare la fonte iconografica nel mito rinascimentale dell'educazione di Cupido. La scena , descritta nell'Hypnerotomachia Poliphili e riprodotta anche da Carpaccio nel ciclo di Sant'Orsola, è considerata ispirata da una placchetta bronzea del Camelio, che si ritiene tratta a sua volta da un perduto originale antico. La coincidenza straordinaria delle scene con la placchetta del Camelio -  e l'aggiunta di personaggi non in questa presenti - porta a sostenere l'ipotesi che il Pilacorte abbia a sua volta potuto osservare dal vivo la perduta opera originale.
