I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
1. identify which of the things found in environment are producers and consumers,
2. understand the roles of producers and consumers in an ecosystem; and
3. create a graphic organizer differentiating producers and consumers.

your chairs first and pick up tiny pieces
of garbage under your chairs.
B. Review/Drill
Before we proceed to our lesson today,

let us have first a review about our topic

Alright! This time, I will divide the class

into two groups and to find your group
mates look under your armchairs to find
the color of the group where you belong.
Red group will sit here and blue group
there.
This game is called “Classify Me.”

I have here a collection of pictures and
all you have to do is to classify the
pictures if it is Biotic or Abiotic. Paste the
picture to the cartolina on the board and
locate it to the column where it belong. I
will give you 3 minutes to finish the task.
The first group who will finish first with
the correct answers will be declared as Yes, Sir!
the winner.

Are animals, plants, fungi, bacteria, and
protist are biotic? Why? Yes, Sir! Because biotic factors referred
as living things in the ecosystem. And all
living things like animals, plants, fungi,
bacteria and more are part of it.

minerals? Are they abiotic? Why? Yes, Sir! Because abiotic factors are
referred as non-living components with
chemical and physical factors. It includes
sunlight, air, moisture minerals, soil and
more.

can see and locate where this things can
be found. You will be only given 3

things you have listed according to their
characteristics.

this juncture, we will discuss the
Ecological Relationship of Producers and
Consumers.
Every food chain begins with a producer.

Plants are producers. They make their
own food, which creates energy for them
to grow, reproduce and survive. Being
able to make their own food makes them
unique; they are the only living things on
Earth that can make their own source of
food energy. Of course, they require sun,
water and air to thrive. Given these
three essential ingredients, you will have
a healthy plant to begin the food chain.
Producers can make their own food and

energy, but consumers are different.
Living things that have to hunt, gather
and eat their food are called consumers.
Consumers have to eat to gain energy or
they will die. There are four types of
consumers: omnivores, carnivores,
herbivores and decomposers.
Herbivores are living things that only eat

plants to get the food and energy they
need. Animals like whales, elephants,
cows, pigs, rabbits, and horses are
herbivores.
Carnivores are living things that only eat

meat. Animals like owls, tigers, sharks
and cougars are carnivores. You would
not catch a plant in these animals’
mouths.
Then, we have the omnivores.

Omnivores will eat both plants and
animals to get energy. Whichever food
source is abundant or available is what
they will eat. Animals like the brown
bear, dogs, turtles, raccoons and even
some people are omnivores.

To completely understand our lesson,
you will make a graphic organizer on
what is producer and consumer. The
same grouping in the previous activity. Yes, Sir!
You will be given 5 minutes to construct.
