Owls and a Rare Cooking Success

Image
Not entirely my own idea, these were adapted from this website. http://moonstitches.typepad.com/moonstitches/2007/11/zakka-style-owl.html I changed a few things to make them a little different. These were the first, I have some different thoughts for the next batch. Put wings on some, feather scallops on the belly, add some burlap... oh, the possibilities. \   Success! And another success. Those of you who follow this craziness on Facebook, will know the condition of the Easter Eggs and the unsuccessful Bunny Rolls. Those of you who don't follow on Facebook, well, I will just leave all that to your imagination. I CAN cook, just don't really LOVE to cook.  My cooking "process" seems to provide people with entertainment. So much that some people think that I need my own cooking show. I might be a little clumsy in the kitchen... anyhow, Artistic Cooking totally escapes me. A beautiful ...

My Knit the Bridge project is finally done! JWS and I are heading to Pittsburgh today. Dropping this off at Pittsburgh Center for Creative ReUse is on our list for the day. So is the Gold Medal Popcorn Company for an open house and fair food. and JWS wants to eat Pho which I always thought the word would look like FA (glad I saw this prior to perusing the menu) at Pho Minh Of course there will be a stop at Construction Junction No trip to Pittsburgh is complete without a slide through there to check if there is anything I can't live without. And we will see where the rest of the day leads us. It is mini-day-vacation of sorts. I have this order done! For the pattern, look here or here   No link here, I just can't believe that after all these years with no house plants, I finally have one and it is blooming. Who would have thought?   Trying to work on my selling blog. This stuff is pili...

Owls, Revamped

Image
First of all, you will need this post.   http://tolentreasures.blogspot.com/2011/05/wool-owl-tutorial.html which I promptly forgot I had even written. (It's the old age setting in, but we'll save that for another ramble)   It explains the basics of how to make these.   I thought that they needed to stand alone. Or maybe owls "perch"? And so, they were adjusted.   The bottom of the pattern was flattened out. And this cute little gusset was inserted.     And there you have it... Owls, revamped.   No longer bowl fillers, now shelf sitters.

How NOT to Grocery Shop

As a prequel to this story, I am going to start at Monday morning when on my morning walk I twisted my ankle. Bad. As in hobbling and swelling and ice and Advil, bad. Tuesday, had me driving to my Mother's quilt guild to teach a class on penny rugs. Standing. Wednesday work, and yesterday... Well this is the actual story. Yesterday was my DD Day. (that is Dialysis Driver for those of you that are not regulars here) Still hobbling, I dropped my MIL at the dialysis center, made a few deliveries and then hit my favorite thrift shops. One of them is closing...sad day, but off the subject. Found a few items for the camper project. For that see here. http://restoringavintagecamper.blogspot.com/ Now on with the story. I pick Kendall up at the babysitters. I used to bring her along on some dialysis days, but we had a few "bad" incidents after dialysis and I quit doing that. Didn't want to t...

Limiting Loved Ones

So, I really try hard to be more tolerant of people and human nature as I get older. Some days just push my resolve a little more. Yesterday was one of them. My Dad was having gall bladder surgery in Ohio. JWS offered to go with me. JWS' morning routine is that I bring him coffee in bed at 6:30. Ninety percent of his mornings start that way. He watches the news and wakes up. I shut the bedroom door and try to be quiet while I have already usually been up for two hours, walked three miles, painted something or cleaned out a cupboard, updated my blog, Well anyway, I am a morning person, he is not. So this is how yesterday went. Up at 3:30, both of us. Out the door at 4:40 AM. Twelve miles away, drop stuff at Shawnee's, pick up stuff at Shawnee's to take to my Mom. (Wedding stuff...believe me, another whole post for another time.) It was all left in her car, so no one was awakened. I notice JWS sh...
