Winter Projects

Image
Lots of winter projects in my world!  A nice, easy winter with time to rest and  create! How could you ask for more?      An amazing weekend spent  with these creative ladies, quilting, sewing, laughing, and of course,  eating!  And... still persevering on this afghan!  Setting deadlines to get it done and missing them!

Project 1, 2, 3 and 187 items.

Already I am a little behind on my Project 365. Four days to be exact but who is counting other than me. Shelby's poncho.   I know it looks a little weird.   It is sort of asymmetrical, but it looks cool on.   At the risk of oversharing and mostly because some of you people might think I have it all together. (Only the ones who truly don't know me) This was the dumping of my sock drawer.   Honestly, I like the after picture so much better, why can't I keep it that way? A chair headed to the shop... wait, can I count that as 188 and the poncho as 189?   Of course, my count, my rules!   Trying to make more of these.   I found them all cut and ready to be sewn.   Tutorial here: http://tolentreasures.blogspot.com/2012/01/blue-jean-table-runner-tutorial.html

Two Turtles Down

Image
When I started these a couple of months ago I thought that I had plenty of time!   What do they say? When we make plans....   Then I got sick.   For over a month.   A little crocheting, but mostly not.   Then a vacation planned, tickets bought, a six year old anticipating.   So here I am 10 days and counting...   Two down, one to go.   See it in the bottom of this picture?   Tomorrow we will discuss the mermaid tails.

Seven Days

Image
Seven Days of Creativity. It's a start!   It's an app!   Well, not exactly a creativity app, but a calendar that allows you to post a pic everyday!     So, often I make these huge lists the first of the year, only to find them in a stack of papers in June, largely unfinished and leaving me feel like I have done NOTHING! So, this year, I decided to scrap the lists... well not completely, and try this. Finishing a project a day.     Suppose it will work? Even if it doesn't... I have SEVEN projects done!

A Twist on The Pennants

Image
These have been in the back of my mind for awhile. Pennants with a twist. So, after cleaning the sewing room, I messed it up again. I am always buying boxes of linens and hoarder than I am, I cannot stand to throw any of them away. Even the stained, ripped ones.   This is what I decided to do with them. Bits of fancy needlework...salvaged! Lots more to go!    The original pennant tutorial is here   http://tolentreasures.blogspot.com/2012/11/free-pennant-tutorialvery-easy.html   The only twist?   The serger on the edges.   I bought this serger from a friend this summer.   It has sat and sat and sat.   So after dusting and cleaning and Olympic gymnastic acts to get it threaded, it is working!     How fun are those machines?

Camp Weekend

Image
This has always been my favorite weekend (long weekend) of the year.   For all my adult life, this was an "alone" weekend.   A Buck Widow Weekend.   I loved it!    And then it happened... JWS announces he no longer wishes to hunt.   Now I am sure that there are women everywhere that would love to hear that proclamation, however, it was not a happy day for me!!!   I liked my time alone. I liked my house to myself. I liked the tv remotes, sleeping when I wanted to getting up when I wanted to eating leftovers and whatever I wanted.   Not that JWS is demanding or noisy or messy or hard to be around.   (He is a remote hog though)   Last year, we compromised, New Orleans.   We spent the weekend there. It was fun.   This year nothing... but   It hasn't been bad so far. I got some canvases done And, I turned this ...

Friday Morning Weekly Progress Report

Image
Doesn't that just sound all office and professional?  Friday Morning Weekly Progress Report.   I really do go over the past week at work on Fridays and make the list for the next week.   This is a Home Progress Report though.   Afghans. Six of them. One down, five to go and the progress on each.   Because if you live in an ADD world as I do... you know one project is never enough.   Forty-five or so is really the magic number and I guarantee I have at least that many projects started around here! Some are stashed, some are blatantly staring me in the face.   These are all the ones stashed in the living room, if you don't count the doodle art projects started in the one corner behind the couch.   Shhhh, let's keep that quiet! Hopefully next Friday I will have another one finished.   One a week would take me to.... December 19th... I might h...

How It All Started

Image
The Linus Project   http://projectlinus.org/       That has me rapidly crocheting since Shelby informed me she is doing that project with her students BEFORE Christmas.  Me, thinking of calm January nights in front of the fireplace...     Guess not! So, here I go.    And how it started?   With this little boy who is turning four today!   http://tolentreasures.blogspot.com/2010/11/update-thanks-and-prayers.html   There are chapters groups of  the Linus Project Everywhere!    Blankets can also be mailed!   A very worthy cause!

The Best Potholder Pattern, EVER!

Image
Ok,  so in my search for another dishcloth pattern this morning, I ran across this potholder pattern.  http://www.crochetkari.com/2012/09/potholder-pattern-and-tutorial.html And, I am really tired of making dishcloths. And truthfully,  I don't even like them or use them.  But some of my family does... so I persevere.  If you go to read the pattern and want to jump right  into making one, here are the changes that I made to the directions.  I did not go into the back of each stitch,  but went into the whole stitch.  I think that they are heavier that way, but you do lose that ridged look.  Also, I used an H crochet hook with  Sugar and Cream cotton yarn and  Lustre Sheen together  And honestly, I made this in the time that it took my  Grape Nuts  to  soften in my yogurt! And....to my sister,  if you are reading thi...
