And so the week continues...

Old School? Yes. But I think that I am ready to return there. In today's episode of Me vs. Best Buy or How Many Trips Can You Make to Pittsburgh In A Week? you will find ME that's right, this episode stars ME,  AGAIN driving AGAIN to Pittsburgh to return the computer that we bought because Best Buy told us our other one was trashed. Unfixable, Unrecoverable. lots of "un" words. This purchase included a laptop, a tech support package, an external cd drive... well just read the previous post to get the drift.   And then, we called the local computer guru. Keep him in good Columbian coffee, give him some smoking breaks and viola! The old computer is up and running fine. (I would say that Best Buy should hire him... but he really doesn't fit the Geek Squad mold) and he probably wouldn't sell many computers, he would manage for fix the OLD ones, therefore violating the Best Buy c...

Five Non English Tech People,Two Jasmines and a Bridezilla

Let me start by saying, We are busy. Not just 40 to 50 hours a week busy, but... Dead Tired, More hours at work than at home, Drop into bed and pass out, Busy. And I am thankful for the work. We had a bad year last year. We need to catch up. That being said, of course... something is going to break. And it did. Last Thursday night in the storms my monitor on my desktop rolled over and died. It had been terminal, It was only a matter of time. Eight years old. That's about two hundred and three in human years, it had served me well. I called Dell. The nice, limited English speaking, tech person played coroner and confirmed the death. He also put in the expedited order for a new one. To be delivered Tuesday. I was skeptical, but always having good service in the past with Dell, I tried my best to trust them. Four computers, I have bought from them and always good service. Until now. Tuesday when the monitor didn't arrive, I began calling. and calling and calling. After a total ...

What a week.

It has been a long time since I was this happy for a work week to be over. I have had computer issues all week. I had to install an ink jet printer and software to make it have postscript capabilities. Confusing? Yes! I have used a laser printer for years and it will already print dots for halftones necessary in screenprinting and the latest (well in truth it has probably been out more years than I care to think about) trend now is to use ink jet printers. Well, the entire week where the computer and printer were concerned was a tribute to Murphy's Law in action. Of course to repeat the entire process would be a complete yawner, as if the first two sentences didn't lose you. Defensive as I am, I feel that there were other forces of discrimination at work here, that being the bulk of graphic designer /artist's/computer people in in the screenprinting industry are 1.) men 2.) young men 3.) not very often women 4.) not very often "older" women 5.) not very ...

Production Halted!

Image
The following pictures will explain the halt in production at the shop yesterday. I had Kendall for the day, not realizing that Jenn was going to have the boys there also. These are the scenes from my office yesterday. Tyler decided to try out this baby chair, after all, it was his originally. Logan and Tyler completely took over one of the desks and computer stations after telling Nana to "GET UP" because he wanted in there. Grampa finally gave up and just played ball. This is me, still trying to get some order in the place. Tyler decided to hide in the extra shirt cabinet. Kendall got her first experience in the walker. I think that she liked it. I did manage to finish this baby gift last night. I had ran out of yarn at one point and could not find it locally, had to call my Mom in Ohio to go and find it and mail it to me. The shower is Saturday, time to spare actually! I still do not have my computer printer issues resolved. They are completely frustrating me t...
