İşkolikler, vaktinin çoğunu iş yerinde veya iş ile ilgili konularda harcayan, iş'e bağımlı kişiler olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Günümüze kadar işkolikliğin hem bireye hem de organizasyona zarar verdiği yönünde yüzlerce akademik çalışma yapılmıştır. İşkoliklik, hiyerarşik yapılanması olan Emniyet Teşkilatı'nda da önemli bir problemdir. İşkolik çalışanlar Türk Polis Teşkilatı'nın verimliliğini düşürdüğü gibi, diğer çalışanların da verimsiz olmasına neden olmaktadırlar. Bu çalışmada işkolikliğin polis teşkilatındaki yansımaları, bunun nedenleri, polis ailelerine, kendilerine ve Emniyet Teşkilatı'na verdiği zararlar ve birtakım çözüm önerileri tartışılmaktadır. Ayrıca, Emniyet Teşkilatı'ndaki işkolikliğin diğer kamu ve özel kurumlardakinden farklı olarak istekdışı oluştuğu ve bunun nedenleri incelenmektedir.

This study examined the role of negative affectivity (NA) in the formation process of perceived work stress among workers employed in two Italian organizations. Psycho-physical strain, perceived conflict (with superiors and colleagues), and NA were detected through self-report, adapting the Strain-Free Negative Affectivity Scale to the Italian context. Four alternative models, popular in the literature on work stress, were tested. Each hypothesizes a specific role for NA. The analyses conducted suggest that NA has both a direct effect on strain and an indirect one, through perceived conflict. From a theoretical point of view, the results show, therefore, a substantive role of NA in the formation of perceived work stress. From an application point of view, they point to the opportuneness of also adopting hetero-evaluations or objective indicators of stress together with self-evaluations of stress.

Günümüz iş dünyası, her geçen gün yaşanan teknolojik gelişmelerle hayatımıza dâhil olan yeniliklere uyum sağlama çabası içerisinde gelişmeye ve değişmeye devam etmektedir. Öyle ki, işletmelerin özellikle sanal organizasyonlara dönüşmeye başlaması, çalışanların da iş dışında işle ilgili faaliyetlerde bulunmasına olanak sağlamıştır. Bu doğrultuda çalışmanın amacı; çalışanların işkolik davranışlarının işyaşam dengesi ile ilişkisinde teknoloji kullanımının düzenleyici rolünün incelenmesidir. Bu amaçla doğrultusunda bir bilgi teknolojileri işletmesinin çalışanlarına yönelik bir anket çalışması düzenlenmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda; işkolikliğin işyaşam dengesi üzerinde anlamlı bir etkiye sahip olduğu, ancak teknolojinin bu iki değişken arasında düzenleyici rolü üstlenmediği tespit edilmiştir.

Nikolai Gogol (Ukrainian: Mykola Hoholʹ) is a notable example of a nineteenth-century Russian author of Ukrainian origin, whose works in Ukrainian translation have always been and now remain ideologically fraught. This article discusses the dynamics of translation-from creative stylization to awkward literalism-during the period from the late 1920s to the early 1950s. Later Ukrainian editions of Gogol's works in the Ukrainian SSR were not substantially different from those published in the mid-1950s, which indicates that by that time the Soviet model of Ukrainian literary language had been firmly established. It tended to increasingly merge with Russian, taking the Russian-language writings of Gogol as a model. The study reveals a tension between Ukrainian national idealism and the Soviet regime's pragmatic use of language as a means of political propaganda. The discussion further challenges Russian-to-Ukrainian literalism as a strategy for manufacturing linguistic similarities and "naturalizing" Russian as the mother tongue.

In today's productivity-driven workplaces, work addiction has garnered attention. Despite consensus on the conceptual validity of certain behavioural addictions, work addiction remains unrecognised in diagnostic manuals. This study examined the relationship between work addiction and burnout via psychological capital (PsyCap) and job satisfaction. A sample of 454 employed adults (71.1% females, aged 19-72 years, M = 32.55 years, SD = 10.56) from 52 countries were recruited online. A serial mediation analysis using structural equation modelling tested paths from work addiction to PsyCap to job satisfaction to burnout. The study revealed a positive association between work addiction and burnout. PsyCap and job satisfaction partially mediated the relationship, with work addiction prevalence at 28.4%. Work addiction emerges as a significant stressor with potentially adverse effects on individual well-being globally. Interventions focused on enhancing Psy-Cap and job satisfaction may mitigate these effects and their association with burnout. The implications of these findings are further discussed.

Although extant research shows detrimental consequences of workaholism, wellknown workaholism scales have been commented on for the lack of construct clarity and validity. The Multidimensional Workaholism Scale (MWS), a new measure developed in the United States, offers both conceptual and psychometric advantages over previous workaholism scales, yet it has not been fully validated in different countries. This study aimed to adapt the MWS to a Northern European context (i.e., the Netherlands) and examine its factorial, convergent, discriminant, and incremental validity. To evaluate the psychometric properties and validity of the Dutch version of MWS, a sample of 366 Dutch employees was surveyed. The analyses showed that the subdimensions of the Dutch MWS had internal consistency and convergent validity with obsessive passion, workload, and the Dutch Work Addiction Scale. Moreover, the Dutch MWS showed good discriminant validity and modest incremental validity. Researchers in Dutch-speaking nations can use the Dutch version to learn more about workaholism.

Suç ve ahlak dışı davranışla ilişkilendirilen sapkın boş zaman, boş zamanın masum olmayan yönü olarak dikkat çekicidir. Ancak boş zaman katılımcılarının sapkın davranışsal eğilimleri gözden kaçan bir konudur. Bu araştırmanın amacı, üniversite öğrencilerinin sapkın boş zaman eğilimleri ile boş zamanda sıkılma algısı arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektir. Bu ilişkinin anlaşılması, üniversite öğrencilerinin sağlıklı boş zaman aktivitelerine yönelmelerini teşvik etmek ve olumsuz sonuçlara yol açabilecek sapkın davranışların önlenmesine yardımcı olmak için önemlidir. Yöntem: Araştırmada, "Kişisel Bilgi Formu", Kara ve ark., (2014) tarafından Türkçe 'ye uyarlanan " Serbest Zamanda Sıkılma Algısı Ölçeği " ve Bedir ve ark., (2023) tarafından geliştirilen "Yetişkin Sapkın Boş Zaman Eğilimi Ölçeği" veri toplama aracı olarak kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizi için betimsel istatistikler, t-testi, ANOVA ve personkorelasyon testleri kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Elde edilen bulgular, boş zaman sıkılma algısı yüksek olan öğrencilerin sapkın boş zaman eğilimlerinin de yüksek olduğunu göstermiştir (r=508). Sonuç: Bu sonuçlar, serbest zamanda sıkılma algısının üniversite öğrencileri üzerinde olumsuz etkilere sahip olabileceğini ve boş zamanda sıkılmanın sapkın davranışlara yönelimi artırabileceğini göstermektedir.

The aim of this paper is to obtain a set of utility functions to allow a prognosis of the level of general satisfaction achieved by subjects admitted to the vocational programmes of the "Escuelas Taller y Casa de Oficios" (Workshop Schools and Vocational Centres) sponsored by the National Institute of Employment (INEM). Five hundred subjects from the province of Cádiz were administered a short version of Fernández Seara's (1987) original questionnaire. By drawing on effort-recovery theory, we conducted two studies to explore the short-term process through which workaholism may affect health and to assess the implications of such a process for job performance. In Study 1 we hypothesised that workaholic tendencies would affect daily workload and that daily workload would mediate the relationship between workaholic tendencies and daily emotional exhaustion. Data were provided by 102 workers consisting mostly of entrepreneurs, managers and selfemployed individuals, who were followed for ten consecutive working days. Multilevel structural equation modelling, controlling for the general level of workload, neuroticism and conscientiousness, supported the hypotheses. Building on the results of Study 1, in Study 2 we hypothesised that workaholism would lead in the long run to a decline in job performance. Study 2 considered 519 employees of a large organisation and focused on their supervisors' performance ratings in two successive years. Workaholism was used to predict change in work performance. Work engagement was included in the model as a concurrent predictor of work performance. Contrary to what was hypothesised, workaholism did not affect performance; only work engagement did so, and in a positive way. The implications of the obtained results for further research on workaholism are discussed.

Turizm endüstrisi gibi emek yoğun endüstrilerde hem çalışanların hem yöneticilerin sadakati ve bağlılığının önemi bilinmektedir. İşkoliklik davranışı ile ilgili örgütsel ve sektörel bağlamda araştırma çok kısıtlıdır. Turizmde işkoliklik davranışını araştıran çalışma ise yok denecek kadar azdır. Çalışma bu yönüyle hem alan yazına hem sektöre özgün katkı sağlamaktadır. Yöntem: Bu araştırmada, Antalya ilinde turizm işletmelerinde yönetici olarak çalışanların işkoliklik davranışı, duygusal bağlılık algıları, iş tatmini ve işletme performansı olmak üzere dört değişken grubu bulunmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmış ve toplam 115 katılımcıdan veri toplanmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırmanın sonuçlarına göre yöneticilerin işkoliklik davranışı ile iş tatmini ve işletme performansı arasında pozitif yönlü ilişki vardır ve bu ilişkide duygusal bağlılığın aracı rolü bulunmaktadır.

Workaholism, a topic of significant academic interest in various professional spheres over the past four decades, has yet to be thoroughly explored in the context of religious women. This study utilizes a descriptive cross-sectional quantitative survey guided by the Job Demand-Resources (JDR) Theory and the Self-Determination Theory (SDT) to examine the prevalence of workaholism among missionary religious women in Nigeria. Data was collected from 123 Sisters using the Dutch Work Addiction Scale (DUWAS-10). Descriptive statistical analyses were employed to evaluate the data. The findings revealed a 12.2% prevalence of workaholism among the respondents. The study suggests that high job demands coupled with inadequate job resources may contribute to workaholism, with significant implications for both individual and community well-being, underscoring the importance of this research.

The nature of these workstyles and their impact on recreation participation have been investigated comparatively little. However, some understanding of their characteristics and effects on the middle classes can be obtained by exploring the workstyle continuum. One end of the continuum is occupied by people who, for one reason or another, do not work; at the other end are those who work almost continually. We will discuss these two extremes first and then examine the alternatives that lie between them. Finally, the special circumstances of retirees will be reviewed. Freddie the Free Spirit Freddie the Freeloader, Red Skelton's TV character, shunned the 9:to-5 work routine and lived a life of being himself in a ramshackle non address on the outskirts of town. Real life free spirits, like their fictional counterparts, profess a similar confidence in their workless survival techniques. However, many contemporary Freddies live in middle-class neighborhoods rather than" on the wrong side of the tracks." Their acceptance of a largely workless lifestyle reflects a growing rejection by middle-class people of the traditional work ethic and the material rewards of a conventional job. In his recent book, Breaktime: Living Without Work in a 9 to 5 World, Bernard Lefkowitz describes 100 individuals who made this choice. The people he talked to were not long-term public assistance dependents, apathetic social misfits, or the idle rich. "On the contrary," he writes, "they are people you might know, neighbors, relatives, friends, typical middle-class people who have always worked for what they wanted in life and now want more.. . All of these people are living their pipe dreams and creating their fantasies, and for them, it's the better way, the happier way, the healthier way." The term is reasonably widespread in common sense vocabulary, but its definition is not.
The aim of this review is to understand the concept and try to understand how this may influence some relevant variables in anoccupational context, such as professional satisfaction, quality of working life, performance, teamwork, productivity, global health andsafety at work.

Methodology

The term was first used by Oates in 1971 to describe the uncontrollable need to work, disrupting health, happiness and relationships.Others add the great expenditure of energy and effort in this regard, to the detriment of relationships, health and time for oneself.Although there is no consensually accepted definition, there are several criteria to consider, including concern about work, working toavoid mood swings and harder and harder to achieve the same feeling, dysphoria if unable to work and conflict with one’s own feelingsor needs.

Discussion and Conclusions
The content of the articles is not homogeneous, not only due to the difference between the possible definitions, but also due to thepreconceptions of the researchers or the authors they consulted. In other words, it is considered that Workaholism can be working in anintense and committed way, with great performance, generating intense job satisfaction and admiration for theemployer/managers/colleagues/family and friends; as it can also be seen as a pathological and/or disorganized way of approachingwork, generating anxiety and discomfort, sometimes not even resulting in increased productivity.
Knowing how to recognize the most negative aspects of this concept as early as possible will increase the possibility of interveningmore effectively, enhancing job satisfaction, quality of life, performance, productivity and profit.

Faculty members are susceptible to burnout because of the high expectations they place on themselves and their jobs. Burnout, which is similar to the deadly sin of sloth, has three components: exhaustion, cynicism, and ineffectiveness. Burnout results when faculty members view their job as a calling that provides them with a sense of identity, external validation, and self-worth. The gap between high expectations and reality can lead to disappointment and cynicism. To prevent burnout, faculty members need to maintain a healthy, biblical perspective on their job instead of turning it into an idol.

We live in exciting times for the scientific study of work addiction, given its increased relevance and the diverse perspectives one might take to approach this phenomenon. Simultaneously, this field does not appear to be unified as a result of several misleading myths, which are addressed by the debate paper of Griffiths et al. (2018). In response, we would like to complement this study by proposing that the construct of interest should be more precisely identified in the context of related constructs and that an integrative framework should be applied, which is able to take into account not just the micro-level characteristics (i.e., individual differences), but meso-(i.e., environmental factors) and macro-level (i.e., societal factors) ones as well.

Yüksek sayılabilecek derecede çalışmaya bağlılık duyma, işle ilgili faaliyetlere gereğinden fazla zaman ayırma olarak açıklanan işkoliklik, günümüz çalışma yaşamanın önemli problemlerinden biridir. Dolayısıyla bu problemi doğuran sebeplerin belirlenmesine yönelik araştırmaların sayısı gittikçe artmaktadır. Bu amaçla, bu çalışmada örgütsel bağlılığın işkolikliğe etkisi incelenmiştir. Araştırma amacı doğrultusunda İstanbul'da faaliyet gösteren 15 farklı tekstil ve otomotiv firmasından anket tekniği ile veriler toplanmıştır. Toplamda 214 kişiden elde edilen anket verileri açıklayıcı faktör analizi, güvenirlik analizi, korelasyon analizi ve regresyon analizleri aracılığıyla değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırma bulgularına göre, işkolikliğin artmasında örgütsel bağlılığın önemli bir rolü bulunmaktadır. Aynı şekilde örgütsel bağlılık boyutlarından normatif bağlılığın da işkolikliği arttırdığı gözlemlenmiştir. Örgütsel bağlılığın devam bağlılığı ve duygusal bağlılık boyutlarının ise işkolikliği etkilemediği görülmüştür. Araştırma bulgularının, bazı sınırlılıklara rağmen yöneticilere, çalışanlara ve araştırmacılara önemli ipuçları sunacağı düşünülmektedir.

Past research frequently reports significant relation between workaholism and job burnout, and some studies further indicate workaholism varies across countries. Surprisingly, there is no study that directly examines whether country moderates the workaholism-burnout association. To address this research question, we have collected independent work samples from two culturally diverse countries, namely the People's Republic of China and the United States. A total of 2243 participants (1243 American respondents and 1000 Chinese respondents) were recruited. Preliminary group comparison suggested that there were statistical differences among participants from different industries on the key variables, including workaholism, job demands, autonomy and emotional exhaustion. Therefore, we have divided our participants into three subsamples [i.e., (1) natural resources, mining and construction industry, (2) manufacturing industry, and (3) service industry] and separate analyses were conducted. In the moderated regression analyses, workaholism significantly predicted two dimensions of job burnout, namely emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, even when job demand and job autonomy were controlled. Finally, although two significant moderating effects were found, there was a lack of consistent empirical support to the hypothesized moderating effect of country on workaholism-burnout association. Implications and limitations were discussed.

La adicción y la pasión por el trabajo tienen una gran influencia en la salud de los trabajadores. En este estudio, analizamos estos conceptos con la finalidad de averiguar si son el mismo o conceptos diferentes, además de analizar la capacidad predictiva de algunas variables. Los participantes de la investigación han sido 513 trabajadores (48,1 % hombres, 51,9 % mujeres), obtenidos mediante un muestreo no probabilístico. La prueba de Fisher demuestra que la «adicción al trabajo» y la «pasión por el trabajo» son constructos diferentes. Se determina la capacidad predictiva de variables como personalidad, engagement, autoeficacia, ICO, satisfacción por la vida y estilo de vida sobre la adicción al trabajo y la pasión por el trabajo. En conclusión, la adicción al trabajo y la pasión por el trabajo son conceptos diferentes, que pueden predecirse mediante determinadas variables (personalidad, engagement, autoeficacia, ICO, satisfacción por la vida y estilo de vida).

Resumen: El objetivo de este estudio fue realizar la adaptación al español del inventario WorkBAT de Spence y Robbins (1992) y analizar sus propiedades psicométricas. Para ello se administró una versión adaptada al español a dos muestras, la primera de ellas de 285 empleados (56.5% mujeres y 43.5% hombres) y la segunda de 342 empleados (52.9% mujeres y 47.1% hombres). A la primera muestra, se aplicó el análisis factorial exploratorio extrayéndose dos subescalas: motivación/implicación y disfute en el trabajo. A la segunda muestra, se aplicó el análisis factorial confirmatorio (ESEM) replicando los resultados anteriores. Ambas subscalas mostraron una buena fiabilidad. Las puntuaciones obtenidas en las mismas fueron relacionadas con diversos correlatos externos y otras escalas mostrando una buena validez convergente y criterial. Los resultados indican que la presente escala puede utilizarse para evaluar la adicción al trabajo y, además, es un instrumento con una apreciable bondad psicométrica. Futuras investigaciones podrían utilizar el WorkBAT como una herramienta de screening en combinación con otros instrumentos. Bu çalışmanın amacı kişiliğin (Beş Faktör Kişilik Özelliği) hedonik tüketim ve faydacı tüketim üzerindeki etkisini ortaya koymaktır. Araştırma evreni 18 yaşın üzerinde olan ve sosyal medya kullanan bireylerden oluşmaktadır. Kolayda örnekleme yöntemi ile 707 analize uygun anket toplanmıştır. Veriler SPSS ve AMOS programları ile analiz edilmiştir. Verilerin analizinde faktör analizi, T-testi, One-Way Anova analizi ve Yapısal Eşitlik Modeli kullanılmıştır. Analiz sonucunda deneyime açıklık kişilik özelliğinin hedonik tüketim, özdisiplin kişilik özelliğinin ise faydacı tüketim üzerinde etkisi olduğu saptanmıştır. Diğer ilişkiler istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulunmamıştır. The study aims to examine lexicon of collective trauma and compare it with concepts of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), moral injury and continuous traumatic stress (CTS). The role of language and speech in disintegrating and constructing meaning as a result of collective trauma has been explored.

Compulsive Internet Use (CIU) refers to a maladaptive relationship with the tool, including a loss of control over the use, the use for mood change and withdrawal symptoms. Most studies have relied on student samples, thus little is known about its prevalence in adults. The first objective of this study was to examine CIU in adults that were either employed (N=260) or unemployed within the last year (N=256). Second, the drivers of CIU were examined, with a focus on attitudes that reflected the reality of long working hours and job insecurity that people experience in current workplaces. A high risk of CIU (63%) with no significant differences between employed and unemployed individuals was found. However, unemployed individuals were in the highest band of Internet use, a risk factor for CIU. Interestingly, unemployed 40-55 years old females experienced higher CIU than their male counterparts. Regarding drivers of CIU, the job attitudes working excessively and compulsively were the strongest predictors, beyond emotion stability. This was particularly true at high levels of social support. In view of this, organizations should proactively evaluate the risks associated with encouraging working excessively as ill-health consequences associated with CIU could outweigh the benefits.

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between workaholism and personality traits among managers. A questionnaire consists of 141 items is developed with standard measures and 145 questionnaires are distributed among the managers and 113 ones are gathered where final response rate is 78% after removing two useless questionnaires. Cranach's alphas is reported greater than 0.70, which shows the reliability of the subscales of the questionnaire. To test the hypotheses, different statistical techniques including one sample t test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and correlation are implemented. Findings of the study show that demographical variables do not affect workaholism among managers in public organizations. In addition, among the personality variables, a significant relationship is detected between introversion and dominance with workaholism.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan antara personal relative deprivation dan materialisme. Deprivasi relatif di ukur dengan teori yang dikembangkan dari Crosby dan Materialisme diukur dengan teori yang dikembangkan oleh Dittmar. Partisipan dalam penelitian ini adalah emerging adulthood dengan rentang usia 18-25 tahun. Metode penelitian menggunakan kuantitatif dengan menggunakan survei melalui google form. Dalam menganalisis data menggunakan SPSS 25 for windows. Berdasarkan analisis terdapat hubungan positif yang signifikan antara personal relative deprivation dan materialisme, dengan nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,00. Nilai koefisien korelasi yang berada di angka 0.360 menunjukan bahwa hubungan antar variabel sedang.

Recently some general agreements have been achieved regarding the current status of work addiction. One of the key criteria for conceptualizing a behavioral addiction is the harm caused by the behavior. It has been argued that in the case of work addiction, special attention should be devoted to the potential harm that the behavior causes for the recipients of the work or coworkers. This paper constitutes a narrative literature review of the literature suggesting an association between work addiction of a manager and harm caused to other employees and recipients of their work. Based on this review, it can be concluded that the existing data provide strong premises suggesting that work-addicted managers may cause significant harm to themselves, other employees, organizations, and recipients of their work. It includes potential indirect effects through creating an environment conducive to work addiction and its consequences among employees. However, there are very few studies directly investigating the harm and costs caused by work-addicted managers. This paper constitutes an attempt to integrate certain aspects of clinical and organizational research into work addiction and stimulate further integrations in this area.

Introduction: Work is a social double edged weapon activity that may have positive and negative effects on individual's quality of life and health.Objectives: To estimate workaholism prevalence and to determine its effects on quality of life, mental health, and burnout among healthcare workers (HCWs).Methods: Using a cross-sectional study, 1,080 Egyptian participants distributed as HCWs and non-HCWs were recruited. The study included 4 questionnaires to assess workaholism, quality of life (QoL), Psychological capital questionnaire (PCQ), and General health questionnaire (GHQ). Başvuru Amaç: Bu çalışmada, kişilik faktörleri, değerler ve kariyer hedefleri değişkenleri ele alınarak işkolikliğin bu bireysel öncellerle ilişkisinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Tasarım/Yöntem: Araştırmaya ait veriler niceliksel araştırma yöntemleriyle ve kolayda örneklem yoluyla İstanbul'da farklı sektörlerde faaliyet gösteren işletmelerin 294 beyaz yakalı çalışanından elde edilmiştir. Toplanan anketlere tanımlayıcı istatistik, korelasyon, regresyon ve aracı değişken analizleri ile Sobel testi uygulanmıştır. Sonuçlar: Analiz sonuçları, 'Nevrotiklik' kişilik faktörünün işkolikliğin iki boyutu olan aşırı çalışma ve kompulsif çalışmayı yordadığını ortaya koymuştur. Ayrıca, 'güvenlik' değerinin işkolikliğin kompulsif çalışma boyutu üzerinde anlamlı bir etkisi olduğu bulunmuştur. This study examines how working parents' work attitudes (i.e., workaholism and work engagement) are associated with their child's psychological well-being. Based on the Spillover-Crossover model (SCM), we hypothesize that (a) work-to-family spillover (i.e., work-to-family conflict and facilitation) and (b) employee happiness will sequentially mediate the relationship between parents' work attitudes and their child's emotional and behavioral problems. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among Japanese dual-earner couples with preschool child(ren). On the basis of valid data from 208 families, the hypothesized model was tested using structural equation modeling. For both fathers and mothers simultaneously, workaholism was positively related to work-to-family conflict, which, in turn, was negatively related to happiness. In contrast, work engagement was positively related to work-to-family facilitation, which, in turn, was positively related to happiness. Fathers' and mothers' happiness, in turn, were negatively related to their child's emotional and behavioral problems. Results suggest that parents' workaholism and work engagement are related to their child's emotional and behavioral problems in opposite ways, whereby parents' spillover and happiness mediate this relationship. These findings support the SCM and suggest that decreasing workaholism and improving work engagement may not only improve employees' happiness, but also decrease their child's emotional and behavioral problems.

By drawing on effort-recovery theory, we conducted two studies to explore the short-term process through which workaholism may affect health and to assess the implications of such a process for job performance. In Study 1 we hypothesised that workaholic tendencies would affect daily workload and that daily workload would mediate the relationship between workaholic tendencies and daily emotional exhaustion. Data were provided by 102 workers consisting mostly of entrepreneurs, managers and selfemployed individuals, who were followed for ten consecutive working days. Multilevel structural equation modelling, controlling for the general level of workload, neuroticism and conscientiousness, supported the hypotheses. Building on the results of Study 1, in Study 2 we hypothesised that workaholism would lead in the long run to a decline in job performance. Study 2 considered 519 employees of a large organisation and focused on their supervisors' performance ratings in two successive years. Workaholism was used to predict change in work performance. Work engagement was included in the model as a concurrent predictor of work performance. Contrary to what was hypothesised, workaholism did not affect performance; only work engagement did so, and in a positive way. The implications of the obtained results for further research on workaholism are discussed.

There is no shortage of controversy and debates within the field of behavioral addiction. In this paper, five myths are outlined concerning various behavioral addictions. These are: (i) behavioral addictions can occur concurrently, (ii) addictions such as videogame addiction are associated with other comorbidities and are therefore not separate disorders, (iii) 'addictions' are equivalent to 'disorders' in DSM-5 and ICD-11 nomenclature, (iv) very excessive behaviors are addictions, and (v) socially condoned excessive activities and activities engaged in willfully cannot be classed as behavioral addictions. It is argued that views based on these myths depend upon how behavioral addictions are defined in the first place. It is concluded that any behavior which has severe and longstanding clinical impairment and comprising core components of addiction (i.e., salience, conflict, mood modification, tolerance, withdrawal, and relapse) should be conceptualized as a behavioral addiction.
