In this paper, I consider whether a theoretically defined concept of underclass can be helpful in social scientific discourse. I analyze, review and categorize the concept of a underclass and I made some suggestions for a use of the concept application in the study of social, psychological and moral consequences of poverty. It begins with a discussion of the continuing and pervasive appeal of structural explanations as the root cause of poverty. Then are also examined cultural theories, which by contrast find explanation for poverty in various elements of culture (ex. cultural traits of poor are thought to be different from those of the rest society). A third, a synthetic review of the urban underclass concept is explored. The article also describes the concept of a „culture of poverty” (taking into account the context of the subculture) and „lower class value stretch” as influential concepts in analyses of contemporary poverty and in explanations of the behavior of the poor.

This article provides a theoretical conceptualization of the role of public relations in society based on the 'organic theory' of public relations and on Luhmann's system theory as well as on the concept of trust. In a postmodern, hypercomplex society, we claim that the main role of public relations is to to strengthen system interactions through the creation of trust among systems. To enhance, maintain and ensure trust, public relations practitioners must think, not only strategically, but "metastrategically", beginning with a normative theory of society that is built on the foundation of existing social theory, e.g. Luhmann, but also on contemporary social theory that must be built within a framework of communication technology

Neil Gaiman’s urban fantasy novel Neverwhere revolves around some problematic aspects prevalent in the contemporary world, such as an iniquitous discrepancy between social classes or a problematic attitude to history. The artistic universes created by Gaiman are instrumental in conveying a complex condition of postmodern society. Although one of the represented worlds, London Above, is realistic and the other, London Below, is fantastic, both are suggestive of the contemporary social situation, citizens’ shared values and aspirations. Only when considered together can they reveal a comprehensive image of what the community accepts and what it rejects as no longer consistent with commonly held beliefs.

The disparities in the representations of London Above and London Below refer to the division into the present and the past. The realistically portrayed metropolis is the embodiment of contemporary times. The fantastic London Below epitomises all that is ignored or rejected by London Above.

The present study is going to discuss the main ideas encoded in the semiotic spaces created by Neil Gaiman, on the basis of postmodern theories. I am going to focus on how the characteristic features of postmodern fiction, such as the use of fantasy and the application of the ontological dominant, by highlighting the boundaries between London Above and London Below affect the general purport of the work.

Shmuel N. Eisenstadt has modified the classical theory of modernization in principle. In the history of his work which is connected with the changes of sociological theory since the 1950s he has made a turn from the comparative analysis of institutions to the research program of comparative civilizations. The research program of multiple modernities has emerged out of this shift of attention. This led him to the critique of the theory of structural differentiation as the main process underlying the socio-structural evolution of societies and the convergence theories of modernization which have taken effect in contemporary sociological theory. The article reconstructs Eisenstadt's theoretical sociology and his analysis of institution building. It interprets his research program of multiple modernities and the function of Axial-civilization in the structural evolution in this framework.

In "Counter-History of the Present," Gabriel Rockhill contests, dismantles, and displaces one of the most widespread understandings of the contemporary world: that we are all living in a democratized and globalized era intimately connected by a single, overarching economic and technological network. Noting how such a narrative fails to account for the experiences of the billions of people who lack economic security, digital access, and real political power, Rockhill interrogates the ways in which this grand narrative has emerged in the same historical, economic, and cultural context as the fervid expansion of neoliberalism. He also critiques the concurrent valorization of democracy, which is often used to justify U.S. military interventions on the behalf of capital. Developing an alternative account of the current conjuncture that acknowledges the plurality of lived experiences around the globe and in different social strata, he shifts the foundations upon which debates about the contemporary world can be staged. Rockhill's counter-history thereby offers a new grammar for historical narratives, creating space for the articulation of futures no longer engulfed in the perpetuation of the present.

This  comprehensive  review  is  on  the  dominance  of digital  technology  in  fashion  design,  aesthetics,  and profound jounce  on  the  values  of  individuals  in  contemporary  society.  A commensurate  understanding  of  the  relationship  between  digital technology,  aesthetics  and  fashion  design  is  essential  to  examine the  developments,  transformation,  and  socio-cultural  surprises  in the years to come. In this paper examines the family as a social group in the context of contemporary social changes and relationships -its transformations along with the changes taking place in society, what changes are taking place in the family, its place and importance in contemporary society. In order to shed light on the problem of the transformation of the family, it is necessary to review various aspects of family change, internal processes and dynamics of these changes, to capture the reality of family. When considering the relationship between society and the family, it is evident that the changes in contemporary society in uenced changes in the family, its structure, functions, dynamics, relationships, and that they are result of transformation of value-normative framework in the individualized society, economic and demographic changes.

Several factors have contributed to the expansion of the projectual focus of Design over time. Initially focused on the design of physical products, its scope is evolving toward a systemic perspective. The main design challenge in contemporary times is precisely to develop and/or support the development of solutions to highly complex issues that require a broad vision of the project, jointly and sustainably involving products, services and communication. It is in this context that the interpretive richness and visionary skills, inherent characteristics of this discipline, can contribute to the development of a plurality of solutions and future scenarios. This paper aims to conduct a reflection on approaches and tools that support the development of transversal relations and the role of the designer in system level. Possibilities of expanding the purview of the designer stand out through the strengthening of their role as boost agents of sustainable innovations (design for sustainability) and of projects related to local resources value (design applied to the territory value design system, design in the value chain, service design). In this context, the importance in the development of competencies related to the systemic view is emphasized, as well as to the symbolic analysis and to the establishment of crosscutting relationships with other disciplines and social actors.

Questo lavoro ha l'intenzione di rivolgere la sua attenzione all’analisi del romanzo Konbini Ningen ("La ragazza del convenience store"), pubblicato nel 2016 da Sayaka Murata e vincitore del premio Akutagawa nello stesso anno. Assumendo una prospettiva di tipo sociologico, si cercherà di analizzare la storia della protagonista del romanzo Keiko Fukumura e del secondo personaggio più importante della narrazione, Shiraha. Nel dettaglio si cercherà di analizzare in primo luogo, le modalità attraverso cui i due personaggi cercheranno di ‘evadere’ dai vari doveri dettati dalla società e, successivamente, analizzare in che modo la storia della protagonista possa essere considerata una contronarrativa rispetto alla divisione dei ruoli di genere dominante nella società giapponese contemporanea.

From past to present, global compressions on human and environmental systems are more likely to increase
than ever before in human history. With the science and technology advancement, we are living in the age of the global
village that enables more convenient and brings us closer together. However, this also means that human being is
suffering from global environmental crisis including the threat of war, economic crises, racial conflicts, environmental
degradation, and environmental crime. This paper represents library-based work to date in Buddhist contemporary and
useful perspectives and strategies on environmental protection and prevention in the backdrop of growing consumerism
and capitalism influenced by western cultural in post-globalization era. Comparing to other countries, Thailand faces
various environmental problems and some of them could become to environmental crime such as illegal wildlife trade;
smuggling ozone-depleting substances; illicit trade in hazardous waste and pollution; illegal mining; illegal, unregulated
and unreported fishing; illegal logging and associated trade in stolen timber. Since Thailand is one of largely Buddhist
practical countries, measures to conserve the environment can draw on the principles and precepts of Lord Buddha’s
teachings, known as Tripitaka. In Lord Buddha’s lifetime, environmental problems were not salient, but surprisingly, Lord
Buddha recognised such problems because they are related to natural law. Accordingly, he established disciplinary rules
for monks to live as models of not destroying the environment. The five precepts of Buddhism are the examples of the
main principals in Buddhism which is regulations regarding the relation with environmental crime protection and
humanity.

Resumo: Com este artigo, trazemos contribuições sobre o tema da humilhação social a partir do referencial teórico da psicanálise. Re etir sobre a humilhação como uma dor do sujeito e, ainda, de muitos sujeitos, é pensar a humilhação enquanto fenômeno social decorrente das tensões e contradições da relação inseparável entre sujeito e sociedade. Com essa análise, buscamos afastar uma vitimização do humilhado e apontar processos subjetivos, sociais e políticos envolvidos, que contribuem para que o ser humano ocupe esse lugar de sofrimento extremo, inviabilizando seu deslocamento da posição de objeto de gozo do Outro para a posição de sujeito desejante. Abstract: With this article, we will try to contribute to this theme, with a psychoanalytical perspective. To consider humiliation as the su ering of a sole subject and also of many people, to understand humiliation as a social phenomenon, caused by the tension and contradiction of the inseparable relationship between the subject and society. is analysis aims to avoid the victimization of the humiliated and point out relevant subjective, social and political aspects that cause the human being to put himself in this place of extreme su ering, making it di cult for him to swap from the position of object of jouissance of the Other to the position of a subject who desires.

La sociedad actual, cultural y tecnológicamente compleja, nos enfrenta a un importante replanteamiento de la educación en sus diferentes ámbitos y niveles, y en este sentido, la formación inicial del educandos, profesorado y comunidad es un elemento clave y estratégico a la hora de llevar a cabo diferentes tipos de mejoras, y enfrentar así, muchos de los nuevos retos y problemas que no existían pocas décadas atrás. This presentation aims at expounding on the importance of information and communication technology (ICT) and of digital heritage in strengthening the bilateral relations of and the interaction between civil society and its collective cultural heritage, as well as their role in the recognition and understanding of the particularities and the importance of the history and accounts of these constructed sets. By following this approach, I intend to address the subject of digital technology, highlighting its ever-increasing importance and leading role as an instrument for the study and preservation of cultural and architectural heritage assets. The latter aspect is particularly vital in understanding cities as living entities and physical embodiments of the collective memory, so as to create a database and a set of various highly significant types of knowledge, which can potentially be universally accessed and shared.
The use of ICT, providing new forms of accessing and organizing knowledge, has become an increasingly central and essential process in the field of digital heritage. The management of content disseminated through ICT acts as a basic element in the overall communication and sustainability of knowledge. ICT not only broadens the scope of research but also serves to disseminate it to a wider and more diverse audience in an interactive manner.
On the other hand, the implementation of research projects in the field of digital heritage – based on history of art and history of architecture – leads to the exploration of approaches with the aim of recovering, analysing and interpreting lost or otherwise invisible/transformed heritage assets within the urban landscape. By extension, they allow us to not only question how these strategies are used to reinsert the absent/transformed historical city in its multiple layers within the contemporary environment but also to assess the connection of civil society with its (in)visible legacy. In conclusion, the multidisciplinary nature of this approach is the key focus, an approach that effectively combines digital humanities, history, history of art, architecture and information technology.

In his article “Are You Man Enough? Aristotle on Courage,” Jonathan J. Sanford analyzes Aristotle’s account of courage as a virtue. At first glance, Sanford admits that some aspects of Aristotle’s account of courage may strike the modern reader as strange or unintuitive, especially given how Aristotle restricts the exercising of true courage only to men who risk their lives fearlessly in combat. Nevertheless, Sanford argues that Aristotle’s account of courage can be applied to modern-day actions and maintain much of its explanatory and analytic power, provided that it is interpreted through a modern lens.

In this paper, I analyze Sanford’s account of Aristotelian courage and compare it to one counterfeit account of courage that both Aristotle and Sanford dismiss as a genuine case of courage, namely spirit or mettle. I argue that, while Sanford is correct in saying that spirit does not constitute true courage, his analysis of courage fails to explicate what possessing courage consists in, in modern day society. The reason this failure is problematic is because it threatens to undermine Sanford’s project of applying Aristotelian courage to modern day actions and individuals.

A través de la obra de Jeff Wall (Vancouver, 1946), veremos las ricas relaciones que el artista canadiense establece entre el medio fotográfico y otras formas artísticas, como son la pintura, el teatro y el cine. Aunque las imágenes de Wall son fotografías, están construidas a partir de complejas relaciones con la tradición pictórica occidental, la gestualidad del acto teatral y la construcción de la narración cinematográfica. Estas relaciones con los distintos lenguajes del arte crean unas imágenes misteriosas que
nos hablan de nuestra sociedad contemporánea, creando un espacio a medio camino entre realidad y ficción.

Many conceptual analyses of the structure and mode of operation of the contemporary society outline a worrying and discouraging framework. They describe the decadence of values and they depict a world populated with individuals who are narcissistically self-oriented, looking for the satisfaction of their own desires, unable to desire, build and keep stable, continual and deep relations and affects. Nevertheless, recent psychological research, supported by the evidence of neuroscientific research, has evidenced that the origins of the psychic development of the individual are connected to the domain of the relational experience. New-borns become persons in and thanks to the context of relations where they live and grown up. Thus, relations are an essential feature and a fundamental and peculiar experience for the human being. This is evident if we try to analyse aspects and dimensions, such as attachment, trust, desire and care. Attachment allows not only the survival but also the internalization of relational patterns which are necessary for life. The trust experience in the primal relations allows the vital energy to be addressed towards the world and to build ties thanks to the experience of faith in the other. Experimenting satisfaction and frustration, possibility and limits in the interpersonal relations fosters the development of desire and of the capability of wait, renounce, choice, care, as well as the necessity/opportunity of recognizing/knowing the other. Feeling himself or herself understood by a caring other prepares the ground for the experience of personal safety and thanks to some special pedagogical reinforcements, it opens to the possibility of taking care of someone else, in a structure of mutual exchanges and material, affective and spiritual support which is necessary for any human being. Significant socio-cultural changes occurred in the last decades have influenced those fundamental experiences and contributed to produce new relational styles and models which are characterised by precariousness and discontinuity. It is thus of primary importance to promote and sustain a reflection and education on these themes with the aim of fostering our needs and relations, whose expression is essential for the wellness and selfrealization of individuals and communities. And this is not only in order to achieve a harmonic development of growing-up subjects but even for adults who want to fully accomplish their life and the related needs of sharing, intimacy and generativity. These results have to be achieved by taking into consideration the peculiarity of modern life and by searching for creative solutions thanks to which, at least partially, we can try to combine the new claims with the essential experience of “being” in a relation.

Como personas y como sociedad, en la actualidad hemos perdido las certezas. Esto puede provocar una sensación de mayor libertad de elección, pero también remite a altos niveles de incertidumbre. En efecto, la falta de límites, de definiciones o valores generalizados provoca inseguridad y nos hace buscar marcos de pertenencia que nos definan ante nosotros mismos y los demás. Entre los procesos de búsqueda de raíces destacan las dependencias. Así, se depende del consumo de algo, de la reiteración de un comportamiento o de un marco de pensamiento que pasan a ser el trabajo de tiempo completo y la fuente única de gratificaciones y pesadillas. Cuanto más se interne en la dependencia, mayores dificultades se presentarán para encontrar otros caminos, desarrollar otras raíces que eviten los resultados adversos para sí y su entorno. En este texto se analizan las características de la sociedad y el sujeto actuales que propician estos proceso de dependencia y se proponen estrategias de respuesta que ofrezcan formas y estilos de vida más satisfactorios.

This article is based on the observation that contemporary society is immersed in a serious institutional crisis, inasmuch as its "support spaces" are subject to the pressures of economic globalization and social and cultural mutations. New forms of socialization, new processes of personalization appear here, as do some citizen actions that present behaviors parallel to established norms; these processes are based on the appearance of a new type of violence, destructive violence, whose only end is to serve as an adhoc medium for manifesting the existence of the subjects.

Nas últimas três décadas, nas sociedades ocidentais ditas desenvolvidas, quando surgiu a ilusão do mito do pleno emprego, várias investigações sublinharam uma  mudança radical nos significados atribuídos ao trabalho, afirmando que este perdeu o seu valor central no quotidiano das pessoas. Actualmente, face à escassez e precarização do emprego e ao aumento crescente do desemprego, a actividade profissional continua a ser entendida como uma das fontes mais importantes de autonomia, cidadania e fundadoras de sentido para a vida humana. Como os significados sobre qualquer realidade do humano são cc-construídos nos contextos sociais partilhados, apresenta-se uma reflexão histórico-social acerca dos significados do trabalho e a centralidade do mesmo face às transformações ocorridas nas sociedades ocidentais contemporâneas.

As contemporary readers constantly “lower the bar”, writers tend to follow the same trend, thus creating a vicious circle. Their novels become more and more “unintellectual” in order to appeal to the common man. And this happens not as much because the writers wish to remain loyal to their readers as it happens out of fear of rejection. O presente trabalho busca entender as diferenças entre o ato agressivo, violento, delinqüente e antisocial , em uma perspectiva sócio-psicanalítica. Em um primeiro momento, as autoras, recorrendo a Freud, traçarão as diferenças entre agressividade e violência, conceito de certa forma difuso na obra freudiana. Winnicott será o autor privilegiado para entender a delinqüência e o ato antisocial , enquanto pedidos de ajuda por parte de crianças e adolescentes.Buscando uma articulação entre o ato violento e as práticas culturais existente, as autoras, na parte final do trabalho, fazem uma leitura da violência enquanto inscrita na cultura, tomando como eixo das discussões a família contemporânea.
