Achievements

This study examines the students' impressions, expectations, and achievements in Business Statistics. It revisits self-fulfilling prophecy, which is the Pygmalion effect, by relating impressions and expectations to achievements. It involves 121 students enrolled in Business Statistics course. The students were asked about their impressions and expectations in Business Statistics course characteristics: interestingness, enjoyability, usefulness, and difficulty. Based on the findings, interestingness, enjoyability, and usefulness have weak Pygmalion effect or self-fulfilling prophecy to achievements in the three grading periods. Difficulty, however, has a strong self-fulfilling prophecy to achievements in the final grading period. The achievements of the students in Business Statistics course show consistency with their performance. Initial impression, expectations for midterms and finals, post-course impressions, and achievements have an inter-correlation from very small to very high. The findings of the study imply that the impressions and expectations can be a self-fulfilling prophecy to the students' achievement. It is hoped that the findings of this study will have practical implications for the instructors, researchers, students, and parents to fully understand the Pygmalion effect or self-fulfilling prophecy to an individual to help transform his/her behavior in ways that confirm to his/her initial expectations that will serve as a basis in the attainment of success.

Истраживање којим се рад бави усмерено је на испитивање ефеката које у настави математике имају математички задаци с обележјем стандарда.

Since 2011, and especially after the Arab Spring, the Tunisian society faced a boom of young Tunisian entrepreneurs: A rising generation which succeeded in bringing up with the old repressive regime and started thinking on how to emancipate a new Tunisian economy. In fact, their determination and cultural background played yet a major role in lighting up their journey, but the lack of financial resources prevent them from concretizing their ideas into tangible projects.  However, Tunisian youth, did not close their hands, tried their best to overcome several challenges and came up with plenty inspiring ideas to conquer the local ecosystem.

ABSTRACT Purpose: of this paper: In the paper is presented a Six Sigma project, undertaken within company for production automotive parts, which deals with identification and reduction of production cost in the deburring process for gravity die-castings and improvement of quality level of produced parts. Design/methodology/approach: The objectives are achieved by application of Six Sigma approach to quality improvement project in automotive industry. The applied Six Sigma approach includes team works through several phases: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control (DMAIC). Findings: Systematic application of Six Sigma DMAIC tools and methodology within an automotive parts production results with several achievements such are reduction of tools expenses, cost of poor quality and labours expenses. It was shown that Six sigma is an effective way to find out where are the greatest process needs and which are the softest points of the process. Also, Six sigma provide measurable indicators and adequate data for analytical analysis. Research implications: The possibility of application of several Six Sigma tools such are thought process mapping, Pareto diagrams, process mapping, cause and effect matrix, and analysis of variation and capability studies. Practical implications: Improvements through reduced Production time, Control time, Material and Internal scrap have been yield significant financial. Furthermore, this pilot project enabled introduction of Six Sigma methodology in wider range of manufacturer activities. Originality/value: The paper researches the possibility of Six Sigma application within manufacturing process. This paper is of the value to researcher in the field of quality management and quality improvement, as well as to professionals in the manufacturing industry, wherever the quality improvement is an issue.

Purpose: The paper is dealing with one segment of broader research of universality systematicness in application of seven basic quality tools (7QC tools). The research was carried out in different areas that include power plant, process industry, government, health and tourism services. The aim of the research was to show on practical examples that there is real possibility of application of 7QC tools. Furthermore, the research has to show to what extent are selected tools in usage and what reasons of avoiding their broader application are. The authors examine factors that influence young people's plans to complete Year 12, their aspirations to commence university study in the first year after leaving school and their expected occupation at age 30. They also examine the extent to which the occupational aspirations of teenagers align with their actual job outcomes a decade later. The findings in this report demonstrate just how important parents and peers are in relation to young people's aspirations. The findings also indicate that the aspirations of 15-year-olds are somewhat unrealistic. By age 25 years, which is the age until which data are available for analysis, a significant portion of young people fall short of what they set out to achieve occupationally. However, this does not mean that they cannot achieve their desired occupations at a later stage in life.

Purpose: The project included analysis of strain, cracking, and failure of riveted joints of plate elements made from the carbon-fibre-reinforced plastics (CFRP) and from the 6061 aluminium alloy. Design/methodology/approach: The modelled static tensile strength test carried out for the plates from CFRP and from the 6061 aluminium alloy joined with the steel rivet. Computer simulation was carried out with IDEAS software package employing the FEM.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the fatigue life of box borided AISI 1010 steel materials. Design/methodology/approach: Fatigue specimens firstly have been prepared according to ASTM E466-96 standard and normalized. Then their surfaces have been cleaned by polishing. Boriding heat treatment has been applied in solid media with the help of Ekabor2 powder. Specimens have been borided at 1173-1223-1273 and 1323 K temperatures for 2-4 and 6 hours respectively. Fatigue tests have been made in rotating-bend test device. Separate S-N diagram has been formed for each boriding condition and then their results were compared with the results of the specimens on which any heat treatment has not been made. Findings: As a result it has been seen that boriding has no positive effect on fatigue life of AISI 1010 steel materials. Purpose: Computer vision has been widely used in the inspection of electronic components. This paper proposes a computer vision system for the automatic detection, localisation, and segmentation of solder joints on Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) under different illumination conditions. Design/methodology/approach: An illumination normalization approach is applied to an image, which can effectively and efficiently eliminate the effect of uneven illumination while keeping the properties of the processed image the same as in the corresponding image under normal lighting conditions. Consequently special lighting and instrumental setup can be reduced in order to detect solder joints. These normalised images are insensitive to illumination variations and are used for the subsequent solder joint detection stages. In the segmentation approach, the PCB image is transformed from an RGB color space to a YIQ color space for the effective detection of solder joints from the background. Findings: The segmentation results show that the proposed approach improves the performance significantly for images under varying illumination conditions. Research limitations/implications: This paper proposes a front-end system for the automatic detection, localisation, and segmentation of solder joint defects. Further research is required to complete the full system including the classification of solder joint defects. Practical implications: The methodology presented in this paper can be an effective method to reduce cost and improve quality in production of PCBs in the manufacturing industry. Originality/value: This research proposes the automatic location, identification and segmentation of solder joints under different illumination conditions.

This paper reviews and analyzes the achievements and challenges of the merit-based recruitment process in Afghanistan. The research is basically a library (qualitative) and historical research in nature that includes other reports published and researches conducted during the period 2006 to 2018. The conclusion is withdrawn from analyzing the findings of those research articles and reports. The findings of this research show that the efforts to improve the merit-based recruitment of personnel in the government especially of high-ranking posts were vigorous, and to some extent notable progress has been made over the last few years though there still exists dissatisfaction and criticism over the role and functioning of the Independent Administrative Reform and Civil Service Commission (IARCSC). Nearly 24 percent of the labour force is unemployed while there are still thousands of posts vacant in the government. Among the employed, only 13 percent of the working population of Afghanistan can be considered to have decent employment. The rest are either unemployed, underemployed (in need of more work), or vulnerably employed (low job security, poor working conditions etc.). To generate jobs, and employ people into the civil services the Afghan government needs to undertake comprehensive economic and administrative reforms. Political interventions especially in senior civil service appointments have made the merit-based recruitment’s credibility under question. The politically destabilized environment and weak security conditions have paved the path for the practice of favoritism, nepotism and patronage system in recruitment. Hence the merit-based recruitment is lacking transparency and consistency. There are still incidences of recruitment through personal network ties. And thus the commission (IARCSC) responsible for the recruitment and monitoring of civil services is unable to achieve its objectives of merit-based appointments especially for the high-level positions. In addition, weak institutional capacity, and lack of authority in spending the funds provided by the international donors are other obstacles that have hampered the performance of the commission (IARCSC).

ABSTRACT Purpose: The main aim of this paper is to elaborate using design approach to building Integrated Management Systems (IMS) of organization to trace their own and dependable way to business excellence. Design/methodology/approach: The basic theories used to achieve the aim are: system engineering and architecting, system integration by managing of the interactions among its elements and the social model of management. The theoretical scope of this paper is to find appropriate model of integration based on main principles of mentioned modern management disciplines. Findings: At the beginning of design process of IMS lays Quality Management System (QMS) structured in accordance with ISO 9000 which allows organizations to use recognizable management practice and select properly quality tools for improvement of their core business processes. Research limitations/implications: There are different ways and concepts of integration on the road to business excellence. Design approach enables organizations to find their own road to improvement of business performances by selecting properly tools and methods. Practical implications: As outcome, the authors recommend the graphical presented concept to organizations that have the ambition to join the path of business excellence. Originality/value: Results of this paper are intended for designers of management systems. Presented model sets framework of methodology for design process of IMS which is mainly new for managers.

According to robust versions of virtue epistemology, the reason why knowledge is incompatible with certain kinds of luck is that justified true beliefs must be achieved by the agent (Sosa 2007, 2009, 2011; Greco 2007, 2010, 2012). In a recent set of papers, Duncan Pritchard (2010a, 2010b, 2012, Forthcoming) has challenged these sorts of views, advancing different arguments against them. I confront one of them here, which is constructed upon scenarios affected by environmental luck, such as the fake barn cases. My objection to Pritchard differs from those offered until now by Carter (2011, 2014), Jarvis (2013) or Littlejohn (2014) in that it is based on the claim that cognitive performances may not be properly considered as achievements beyond the scope of the agent’s intentional action—an idea that confers more explanatory power on my argument, and contributes to stregthening links between knowledge and agency.

AbstrAct Purpose: The work consisted in investigation of newly elaborated high-manganese austenitic steels with Nb and Ti microadditions in variable conditions of hot-working. Design/methodology/approach: Determination of processes controlling strain hardening was carried out in continuous compression test using Gleeble 3800 thermo-mechanical simulator. Findings: It was found that they have austenite microstructure with numerous annealing twins in the initial state. Continuous compression tests realized in the temperature range from 850 to 1050°C with the strain rate of 10s -1 enabled determination of yield stress values and values of ε max deformations -corresponding to maximum flow stress. It was found that initiation of dynamic recrystallization requires true strain equal at least 0.29. Holding of steel after plastic deformation allowed determining the progress of recrystallization in the function of isothermal holding time. Determined half-times of recrystallization at 900°C after deformation with 25% of reduction are equal 32 and 17s for 27Mn-4Si-2Al-Nb-Ti and 26Mn-3Si-3Al-Nb-Ti steel, respectively. Several-stage compression tests with true strain of 0.29 permit to use dynamic recrystallization for shaping fine-grained microstructure of steel in the whole range of deformation temperature. Decreasing true strain to 0.23 limits the course of dynamic recrystallization to two first deformation cycles. In two final cycles of deformation, as well as in the whole range of hot-working realized with true strain of 0.19 -dynamic recovery is the process controlling strain hardening. Practical implications: The obtained microstructure -hot-working conditions relationships and stress-strain curves can be useful in determination of power-force parameters of hot-rolling for sheets with fine-grained austenitic structures. Originality/value: The hot-working behaviour and microstructure evolution in various conditions of plastic deformation for new-developed high-manganese austenitic steels with Nb and Ti microadditions were investigated.

The aim of the research is the investigation of the structure of coatings deposited by PVD technique (reactive magnetron sputtering method) onto the substrate from the CuZn40Pb2 brass. Design/methodology/approach: Microstructure was characterised using optical metallography, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Findings: The hard PVD coatings deposited by reactive magnetron sputtering method demonstrate structure composed of fine crystallites. In case of the monolayer coatings the columnar structure occurs. Examinations of the PVD coating textures reveal that in most cases they have the binary textures {111} and {100} or {110} and {311}. Research limitations/implications: In order to evaluate with more detail the possibility of applying these coatings in tools, further investigations should be concentrated on the determination of the mechanical and tribological properties of the coatings. Originality/value: The paper contributes to better understanding and recognition the structure of thin coatings deposited by PVD techniques.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to show the effect of solidification rate on microstructural features, hardness and microhardness of Al–Si–Cu alloys in as cast state. Design/methodology/approach: The main base of the paper is to compare the properties of aluminium cast alloys of ACAlSi7Cu, ACAlSi7Cu2 and ACAlSi7Cu4. Microstructural features were characterised using light optical microscopy. For rapid determination of the parameters: grains size and Secondary Dendrite Arm Spacing – SDAS were used Leica Q-WinTM computer image analyzer. Findings: Increasing the solidification rate increases refines all microstructural features grain size and SDAS. AbstrAct Purpose: The purpose of this paper was to investigate the parameters which effect the results of determining the thermal conductivity of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) by laser-flash method. Design/methodology/approach: The air plasma-spray (APS) technique was used to deposition of two-and three-layered samples. Two-layered samples were composed of metal substrate (321 stainless steel), and ceramic top coat (8YSZ). Three-layered samples were composed of metal substrate (321 stainless steel), bond coat (NiCrAlY) and top coat (8YSZ). Thermal diffusivity of each layer have been measured in the temperature range from room temperature (RT) to 900ºC by laser-flash method. The thermal conductivity was calculated with respect to density, specific heat and diffusivity of the materials. Findings: Obtained results show that the specific heat, density and thicknesses of metal substrate, bond coat and top coat play important role in the thermal conductivity measurement. Research limitations/implications: To obtain the correct results in laser-flash technique thickness, density, and cp of the materials are needed to be measured accurately and surface smoothness of samples should be provided sensitively. Errors in these parameters cause high deviations in measurements. Practical implications: It has been aimed offer an insight into the experimental determination of thermal conductivity of layered TBC system which are used in high technologic applications. Originality/value: Laser-flash method is the most widely used experimental technique to determine the thermal conductivity of APS TBCs at high temperatures. The research contributes to better understanding and recognition the importance of sample preparation in laser-flash method.

The country's comprehensive renovation initiative initiated and led by the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) over the past three decades has achieved great and significant historical achievements, creating a position and power. to continue promoting industrialization, modernization and international integration. On the basis of analyzing and clarifying a special historical context that appears to be a reformist way, generalizing the major theoretical and practical achievements over the past three decades and a number of existing issues out; The article contributes to affirming the special values of the Doi Moi career in the revolutionary process of Vietnam and recognizing the requirements of overcoming and improving to reach the goal of Innovation.

Purpose: Building up on the fracture mechanics (Paris law for crack propagation) based fatigue life prediction model developed earlier by the authors, Monte Carlo simulation has been performed to evaluate sensitivity of die life related to important geometrical and material parameters. Stochastic nature of various fatigue-related die parameters is used to reflect their variability. Design/methodology/approach: Life of the die is one of the most important factors affecting productivity and profitability in hot extrusion of metals. It has been reported in earlier works by the authors that extrusion dies most often fail by fatigue fracture. Experimental studies have shown that cracks preexist in dies due to various factors including heat treatment, machining, and surface hardening. High levels of repeated mechanical and thermal loads result in crack propagation leading to ultimate fracture failure. Findings: Findings of the sensitivity analysis are that fracture life of an extrusion die is very sensitive to initial crack size, section thickness, profile outer diameter and billet length; moderately sensitive to Paris constant and extrusion ratio; and only slightly sensitive to fracture toughness and ram speed. Practical implications: The study can be of direct utility in extrusion die design improvement, formulation of an optimum die replacement strategy, etc. Originality/value: The paper provides basis for a deeper understanding of the factors responsible for fracture failure of an extrusion die exposed to thermo-mechanical fatigue environment.

Purpose: The aim of this work is to perform the investigation of cooling rate influence as well as rare earth metals modification on microstructure of the AC-AlSi7Cu3Mg and AC-AlSi12CuNiMg cast aluminium alloys. In the work also artificial neural networks were applied for investigations of the influence of the alloying additives on the properties of the AC-4XXX alloy. Design/methodology/approach: In the work the thermo -derivative analysis was applied for the reason to determine changes occurred in the Al-Si-Cu alloy caused by cooling rate change in a range between 0.1 and 1.4°C/s as well chemical composition of the investigated alloy. Also artificial neural networks were applied for prediction of the chemical composition and heat treatment parameters and influence on mechanical properties of the investigated aluminium alloys. Findings: The performed investigation are discussed for the reason of an possible improvement of thermal and structural properties of the alloy. Practical implications: The aim of the carried out investigations was to work out a computer aided tool for prediction of mechanical properties on the basis of registered parameters during the technological process as well as controlling the process in real time, which can be useful for foundry and cast industry for achieving of material with assumed properties. Originality/value: Chemical composition and cooling rate applied for the alloy influences the crystallisation process of the phases and eutectics, and that fore also the microstructure and determines at the same time the properties of these aluminium alloys. The achieved results can be used also for liquid metal processing in science and industry and obtaining of a required alloy microstructure and properties influenced by a proper production conditions. The determination of the technological process parameters as well chemical composition allows it to predict the material properties.

Learning in school is a process which is complex and comprehensive. The existence of the learning process may make changes in the student, either intellectually or spiritual. The changes that occur are not only intellectually influenced by intelligence, but may also be with emotional intelligence and the ability to self regulated learning in learning. Associated with the condition, then the purpose of the research was to analyze the influence of the self regulated learning and emotional intelligence against the achievements of learning math students.

Problem Statement: The resiliency is seen as one of the most imports skills in 21st century since the meaning of resiliency is solving problems, being aware of strengths and assets, while managing emotions.
Research Questions: For that reason, how improving the resiliency skills of the youth by empowering Emotional Intelligence (EI) is investigated by making the comparative study at different Turkish universities.
Purpose of the Study: In this research, the effects of developing EI, particularly the leadership and empathy as interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, on improving resiliency were seriously examined. Since the skills of resilience were solving problems, being aware of strengths and assets while managing emotions, empowering the youth’s EI was directly affecting their achievements habits. Research Methods: In the research, a phenomenological analysis was preferred by collecting the data of the perceptions of the young researchers (43), who were involved in innovation-based activities. After collecting the data according to the concepts of EI, the skills in resiliency were analyzed in NVivo 10. The results were also studied in terms of gender differences and STEM fields. Findings: The results showed the women were more successful in developing the skills of resiliency than those of men since they were much better in empowering EI, particularly in their leadership skills and empathy. Since most of the innovation and research-based activities were directly related to need analyzes of the problems, the EI skills helped the participants in the skills of resiliency. Conclusions: In conclusion, EI played important and crucial roles in developing the skills of resiliency, particularly in controlling emotions and solving any kind of problems. Additionally, while the participants’ interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligence levels had significantly increased, one of the resiliency skills, being aware of strengths and assets, had improved as well. So, the achievement habits of the participants had empowered.

Background: Under-five mortality rate is an important index for assessing achievements by countries and thus its targeted reduction is adopted as benchmark towards realizing the Millennium Development Goal number 4 by 2015. With less than 24 months to the deadline, West Africa still contributes significantly to the global burden of child mortality, with over half of the deaths caused by infections. Objective: To review the successes and challenges of reducing under-five mortality in West Africa.

Research limitations/implications: To obtain the correct results in laser-flash technique thickness, density, and cp of the materials are needed to be measured accurately and surface smoothness of samples should be provided sensitively. Errors in these parameters cause high deviations in measurements. Practical implications: It has been aimed offer an insight into the experimental determination of thermal conductivity of layered TBC system which are used in high technologic applications. Originality/value: Laser-flash method is the most widely used experimental technique to determine the thermal conductivity of APS TBCs at high temperatures. Findings: This study shows advantages, possibilities and features of already created and introduced e-learning system as a modern tool for distance education and interactive communication with students and between students. Practical implications: As an example of such system is presented an educational platform applied in Institute of Engineering Materials and Biomaterials at Silesian University of Technology, Mechanical Engineering Faculty, Gliwice, Poland, with use of the "MOODLE" software in October 2004. Background: Under-five mortality rate is an important index for assessing achievements by countries and thus its targeted reduction is adopted as benchmark towards realizing the Millennium Development Goal number 4 by 2015. With less than 24 months to the deadline, West Africa still contributes significantly to the global burden of child mortality, with over half of the deaths caused by infections. Objective: To review the successes and challenges of reducing under-five mortality in West Africa.

Purpose: Experimental measurements have been made to investigate meaning of the change in voltage for the pulse gas metal arc welding (GMAW-P) process operating under different drop transfer modes. Design/methodology/approach: Welding experiments with different values of pulsing parameter and simultaneous recording of high speed camera pictures and welding signals (such as current and voltage) were used to identify different drop transfer modes in GMAW-P. The investigation is based on the synchronization of welding signals and high speed camera to study the behaviour of voltage signal under different drop transfer modes. Findings: The results reveal that the welding arc is significantly affected by the molten droplet detachment. In fact, results indicate that sudden increase and drop in voltage just before and after the drop detachment can be used to characterize the voltage behaviour of different drop transfer mode in GMAW-P.

Previous research has emphasized the importance of promoting female entrepreneurship in developing countries. Women often lack assets, financial history and are disadvantaged in acquiring wage-employment. In Tanzania, female entrepreneurs face these constraints when seeking resources for entrepreneurial purposes. Provision of microcredits has thereby been highlighted to empower women. Impact assessments of women accessing microcredits has its focus on evaluating a change in the decision-making of women. Our study focusses on combining factors affecting female entrepreneurship and achievements. Scarce literature has covered the possible empowerment of Muslim female entrepreneurs caused by microcredits in the world and in the context of Tanzania. Many Muslims do not engage in interest-based transactions. Instead, they use the products of Islamic microfinance institutions, who refrain from using interest-based credits. Our study, therefore, aims to explore the possible empowerment of Muslim female entrepreneurs, comparing female entrepreneurs who use microcredits provided by conventional microfinance institutions (MFIs) and Islamic microfinance institutions (IMFIs). Our study points out in line with previous research that microcredits empower Muslim female entrepreneurs in Tanzania. The study highlights that Muslim female entrepreneurs in Tanzania prefer non-interest-based microcredits over interest-based microcredits, as they are in accordance with their faith.

Learning in school is a process which is complex and comprehensive. The existence of the learning process may make changes in the student, either intellectually or spiritual. The changes that occur are not only intellectually influenced by intelligence, but may also be with emotional intelligence and the ability to self regulated learning in learning. Associated with the condition, then the purpose of the research was to analyze the influence of the self regulated learning and emotional intelligence against the achievements of learning math students. This research was quantitative research with causal comparative method (ex post facto). The population in this research was all tenth-grade students at SMA 1 Susukan Cirebon. Based on Cluster sampling technique, we have chosen 36 students. Research instrument used was the assessment of self regulated learning, emotional intelligence of students, and the learning of mathematics achievement test. As for the results of the research there was a positive influence between the self regulated learning againts achievement of learning math 0.819 or 81,9%, there was a positive influence between the emotional intelligence against the learning achievements of 0.742 or 74,2%, and there was a positive relationship between self regulated learning and emotional intelligence of students namely of 76.5%, meaning between both influence each other with regression equation was í µí±Œ = −0,006 + 0,644í µí±‹ 1 + 0,352í µí±‹ 2. The condition indicates that there was simultaneously influence among self regulated learning and emotional intelligence against the achievements of students learning math of 46,79%, and the rest was enough criteria 53.21% determined other factors. AbstrAct Purpose: The purpose of this paper was to investigate the parameters which effect the results of determining the thermal conductivity of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) by laser-flash method. Design/methodology/approach: The air plasma-spray (APS) technique was used to deposition of two-and three-layered samples. Two-layered samples were composed of metal substrate (321 stainless steel), and ceramic top coat (8YSZ). Three-layered samples were composed of metal substrate (321 stainless steel), bond coat (NiCrAlY) and top coat (8YSZ). Thermal diffusivity of each layer have been measured in the temperature range from room temperature (RT) to 900ºC by laser-flash method. The thermal conductivity was calculated with respect to density, specific heat and diffusivity of the materials. Findings: Obtained results show that the specific heat, density and thicknesses of metal substrate, bond coat and top coat play important role in the thermal conductivity measurement. Purpose: of this paper Develop an analytical model for the cup drawing process to solve for the induced stresses and strains over the deforming sheet at any stage of deformation until a full cup is formed. Design/methodology/approach: An analytical model is developed for the cup drawing process by determining the variation of stresses and strains over the deforming sheet. The model uses finite difference approach and numerical procedures to solve for equilibrium, continuity, and plasticity equations in an incremental fashion. Findings: The developed analytical model results showed good correlation with experimental ones from the literature. Also, the analytical model was found to be useful in conducting parametric studies in order to determine how the different process parameters can affect the deforming cup. Research limitations/implications: This paper includes the development of an analytical model to analyze the deep drawing of axisymmetric cups. This model is then used as the solution engine for the optimization of the blank holder force for such cups avoiding failure by wrinkling or tearing. This model also gives an insight of the modes of deformation in the deep drawing process. Practical implications: This paper is part of a procedure that leads to the optimization of the blank holder loading scheme. The full procedure as presented in the two parts of the work may be applied in industry to minimize the maximum punch load or the work done during deep drawing process by modifying the blank holder force and at the same time avoid failures by wrinkling or tearing. Originality/value: Developing a predictive/corrective technique for solving the unknown boundaries of the deforming sheet.

The study assessed the achievements in, critically reviewed the relevant issues of, and put forward recommendations for achieving the target of the Millennium Development Goal relating to mortality of children aged less than five years (under-five mortality) in Bangladesh within 2015. To materialize the study objectives, a thorough literature review was done. Mortality of under-five children and infants decreased respectively to 65 from 151 and to 52 from 94 per 1,000 livebirths during 1990-2006. The immunization coverage increased from 54% to 81.9% during the same period. The projection shows that Bangladesh will achieve targeted reduction in under-five mortality and infant mortality within the time limit, except immunization coverage. Neonatal mortality contributed to the majority of childhood deaths. Contribution of neonatal mortality to child mortality was the highest. There were remarkable differences in child mortality by sex, division, and residence. To progress further for achieving the target of MDG relating to child mortality, some issues, such as lower use of maternal healthcare services, hazardous environmental effects on childhood illness, high malnutrition among children, shorter duration of exclusive breastfeeding practices, various child injuries leading to death, low healthcare-use of children, probable future threat of financial shortage, and strategies lacking area-wise focus on child mortality, need to be considered. Without these, the achievement of MDG relating to child mortality may not be possible within 2015.

The relationship between selected teacher variables and high school student achievement was analyzed. Using the Pearson Correlation analysis, this paper tries to: 1) determine the relationship between teachers' teaching experience and high school student achievement, 2) determine the relationship between teacher turnover rate and high school student achievement, 3) determine the relationship between teachers with advanced degree and high school student achievement, and 4) determine the relationship between teachers with National Board certification and high school student achievement. Results from the analysis showed that teachers' teaching experiences and teachers with National Board certification were significant in explaining changes in high school student achievement in English 1, and SAT total score.
