Tuesday 4

Joining in on the Tuesday Meme in honor of dear friend Toni (I still can't say "late" or departed).

Let's talk about you this week.

1. How are you unique or different from your friends or family? How typical are you?

LOLOLOL. Everyone knows I def. beat to my own drum. Oh, I might have my parents characteristics, but I'm def. way too stubborn. Wait, maybe I am alike. grin

2.  How do you spend your spare time? books, hobbies, visiting, tv etc.

I like to read and have a vast array of books (ongoing joke is I could open my own library and where ever we have moved, the books go with, just saying). I also like to watch HGTV or the Farm Channel. I like visiting folks, but since my husband is more of the social butterfly than me, he has a hard time knowing when to leave, lol.

3. What was high school like for you?

Hated it. I (we) refuse to attend any reunions. Never have, never will. Our 37th Anniversary is coming up, I see these folks on FB and its still the pretty people pitted against us normal folks.

4. This question has multiple parts:

a. Handbag: designer style or any will do?

I really like Vera Bradley and have several of the colorful handbags and totes. I also have several leather satchels. My latest Vera Bradley I got from the Thrift Store for $10:

I never ever pay full price for a handbag. NEVER. That includes a Coach, Michael Kors and a Fossil that I have. Thanks to my grandmother and mother who taught me the art of picking fakes from real. I have a love affair with handbags or satchels.

b. Pajamas or night gown?

More like sleep shorts and a tank, even in winter.

c. Shoes: sturdy or pretty ?

Well, right now, since I am on my feet, I wear clogs or my tennis/Sketchers shoes at work

But when I am not at work its pretty shoes.

d. home decor: classic, modern, farm house style, traditional?

Old photo. I've since added more signs, stay tuned for an update; I am taking some time today to change out things for the season.
 Farmhouse and traditional

e. Movies: feel good, drama, romance, action?

I like a wide arrange of movies. It just depends on the mood.

Have a beautiful day folks!

Currently...

Again, a big thank you for all the comments. I truly appreciate it.

The Weather...69* and partly sunny. Hoping the humidness will start to die down now that September is knocking. Keeping an eye on IDA, suppose to make its way into the Ohio Valley sometime today-tomorrow. Then no one knows.

Wait, What? (I made that up, lol)...

What day is it? Monday? No seriously, Monday? Work today 11-8 then have Tuesday and Wednesday off. Then I am on 8 straight days. 8.straight.days. I better leave it at that. NO, I AM NOT SUPER WOMAN.

Starting to think money isn't everything. Don't get me wrong, I like making money and earning a living. But I can't help think there is more out there to life. I've about had enough of hearing; you're working how long again? or what about us? Are you really working on Labor Day?

Sometimes I feel like I am just spinning my wheels.

I must be going thru some sort of mid life crisis. It must be.

Reading...was reading and finished

Listening to...the hum of the ac's. That humidity hasn't quite dropped yet.

Cooking...I am ashamed to state that my husband has been cooking. I have not been cooking anything.

Thinking (1)...

---need to get moving both figuratively and physically

---thinking about something my mom said (doesn't bare repeating).

Keeping in Prayer (made that up too, grin)...

---for this country.

---the military

---family and friends

---health

Thinking (2)...

time is sure flying by...Have a beautiful Monday, friends.

Are You Listening?

You know, I am a great believer in "signs" or as a good friend once said, "No, that is the Holy Spirit talking."

Case in point yesterday. Could not (or is it would not?) concentrate for nothing. Between the boss hollering and so many things going on here (for instance, our landlady is in the hospital, she had a heartattack)...I just couldn't concentrate...the boss man, "Linda! Hello anyone home?" He was in rare form, or was I in rare form? I am usually on top of my game, so to speak. But lately, not so much. Let's just keep it real.

Oh oh...not that I am living a sinful life, but I def. can approve on things. I most def. have not been listening and been avoiding HIS word for awhile now. Thanks to my good friend Bonnie for keeping it real. Boy, did her words hit me like a lead balloon. As did other numerous other friends, like Sparky whom I was chatting with yesterday evening. Or like my own mother who I spoke with the other day and she said, "So, your just living and getting by? That doesn't sound very productive, does it? Take it from me, when you get to be my age (in the not so distant future) you will have many regrets. Your father and I are just waiting around to die." Ouch...I know what she meant by those words.

Yeah...I simply don't know what that is right now. So, let's just keep it real, shall we?

R.I.P.

Our household takes this personally; my husband is a Marine (and I will not say former, as there is no such thing). We take every service member death personally. So senseless. Disgust, anger and a whole bunch of emotions is/are hanging pretty high here in the Conley household. Today is no different. And you know what, I don't think the administration even cares one iota about any American citizen...there I said it. I better leave it at this.

Hodgepodging...

Again, thank you for the kind comments. I really ought to tone it down though, lol. We all know the sad state of affairs we are in as USA and its current administration sees a decline; inflation, freedoms, gas prices, mandates etc. I am afraid we are no longer #1.

1. Is school back in session where you live?

No, not until after Labor Day.

Is everyone in person or does your system still offer a virtual option?

The school system will start off in person...but there are things coming down the pike, so to speak. We shall see.

 Are kids wearing masks?

They will have to be vaccinated and still wear masks/ Some school systems are either or.  It just depends on the school system. The school I was employed with mandated both.

***update, the new governor will mandate that ALL schools will have to vaccinate and wear masks. So there you have it.

2. Something you still do 'old school'?

I still cut onions, vegies the old fashion way; with a sharp knife.

3. One lesson you've learned in the 'school of life'?

To always tell the truth, period. And that my friends we all know I am brutely honest.

4. When you were in school did you pack a lunch or buy a lunch? Your favorite thing to see on the lunch menu or inside your lunchbox back in the day?

I have always taken my lunch and still do...although my current employer offers lunch. I always take a bolonga sandwich with hot spicy mustard on rye.

5. August is National Family Fun Month. Tell me something fun you’ve done this month.

went to Keuka Lake/ Hammondsport

6. Insert your own random thought here.

We are under a heat advisory here. Come on 'ber months. I am so ready for change. grin

Tuesday Meme

Welcome to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 kept in memory of her. Let's talk about food this week shall we?

1.What is/are your favorite meal(meals) to eat and to cook?

I love cooking period. My cooking habits change according to season; Fall/Winter is soups and casseroles, Spring/Summer is BBQ. But if you want a good home cook meal, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, corn and rolls are the way to go.

2.How often do you cook at home and what kind of  meals do you make?

Every single day, no wait, exceptions on Fridays. Fridays we get takeout pizza from my employer. Since I have been back to work the last year, my husband is the cook and he is mighty fine at it. Let's see, he makes baked or fried chicken, spaghetti, etc.

3. When you go out to eat what foods do you find yourself ordering most?

I like a good hamburger cooked med. to well done.

4. Can you recommend a restaurant in your area? Why do you like it?

We like

Oh my goodness...Miss Maddie is a fine fine cook. Her fruit salad is so good and she likes to cook homestyle down to simple Earth foods. Nothing fancy. And she is not expensive at all.

For the kind thoughts on yesterdays post. Hammondsport is indeed a lovely place. Let's see, Cuomo is gone, but Kathy Hochul has taken his place. Come to find out, she is more left then he is. I told hubby if he thinks I am going to live in an oppressive state, he has another thing coming. News aka rumor out of Albany is that she will mandate statewide no vaccine/no service for everything, including grocery stores and she will also mandate the vaccines for anyone who is working. Stay tuned for that. I feel sad for anyone who thinks that is ok.

Currently...

So sorry Y'all. I am running behind in posting, commenting and visiting. Had the day off on Saturday and we took off; it was suppose to be Penn Yan, but I had the husband make the turn to Hammondsport/Keuka Lake (one of the Finger Lakes) where we enjoyed a very nice day. I am afraid, unfort. (photos below) I am still on:

Currently and linking back to Stacy

Weather: 80 (real feel is 87*). We have had some storms from that Henri (my husband said its Henry, stop pronouncing it the French way, lol)

The job: Worked Sunday and Today, have tomorrow and Wednesday off. The rumor mill is rampant, especially with a run in from a very rude constant customer who states, "She has the ear of the mayor and what NYC is mandating in regards to 'no vaccine/no entry' will be coming here to our little town of only 9,000." Yeah...I might had told her to move to Commie land. My boss overheard it, but I am not in trouble. This woman is constantly in the store causing problems. The next time the mayor comes in, I shall ask. I have a feeling it will happen. You wanna see a big revolt? Try that here where there is only a small Walmart, Aldi, and my employer.

Listening to: Hubby is watching Blue Bloods. He has decided to turn the news off.

Celebrating: Since I am still tech. on lake time...sigh...just some photos:
Hammondsport is a very small town where you can walk from the square to the lake in less than 5 min. It is almost like a New England seaport. Beautiful.

Town Square

There was a Art Festival going on. We had to park a few blocks away. Not a problem. No matter where one is, you can see the lake, smiles.

I took this on the walk back to the Town Square

one thing that area is famous for is the wine/vineyards. Vines grow wild. Also, many beautiful homes.

with TS Fred and the impending Henri, water was way up. Touching the boardwalk. I was shocked. I have never seen it so high.

I was going to put the toes in (btw, its glacier water) but there was way to much debris in the water.

We walked over to Burgers and Beer where I had one of the best craft burgers (Bleu Cheese Burger) with Sweet Potato Fries and Horseheads Peach Wheat Beer (from Horseheads, NY). It was really good.

However, I was informed by my better half, since we are not rich, we can not move there. Buzzkill. Now look, if you want to keep me in NY, you better find a way to move there (its only a short 20-25 minute drive from here)--yeah, I told him that {{grin}}. He knows Hammondsport is my near and dear to my heart. Hence why on days off, I happen to end up there.

Cooking: Since we had leftover chicken breast from last night, I made chicken salad. So, that's for dinner.

Thinking:

1. What a mess this President and his administration has made of things; Afgan., inflation, gas prices etc. etc. etc.

2. Oh I see the FDA has approved Modrena. Still a hard no. Nope, no thanks. I have to ask, why the push? USUALLY it takes upwards of 14 years to approve a drug. But only what  months with no studies etc. Wassup with that.

3. The devil is moving and roaming freely. Period. And I have a feeling folks are ok with it.

A very hot topic in our household. Just a saying.

Transitioning into Fall/Autumn...

Nothing Earth shattering to discuss today. Just a quick update (since I wrote this late last night) Well, expect perhaps that our county is under evacuation orders due to flooding thanks to Tropical Storm Fred. So far, our town is ok...Twin Tiers. The water is above the bridges here, and the paper says HWY 36 is closed, which is the main thru way to anything. We shall see how going to work goes. My husband got back from walking the dog (still raining btw) and he goes Good Luck.

I am transitioning the blog into the Fall/Autumn season. I am so ready for change...weather speaking. I think I have enough other "change" in my life at this moment.

From yesterday/late evening:

We had Tropical Storm Fred that dropped nearly 5 inches of rain. I took that screen shot earlier, indeed we were under a flash flood watch and we are now under a warning. As a matter of fact, my husband took the box of Mom's Meals that were delivered yesterday evening (long story on why they are delivered here) to his mothers and he said he warned his brother (who lives in their basement) about the water being up to his doorway. Of course, no one listens, sigh. We also have been loosing  power off and on since 4 pm yesterday. The temp might only say 75, but it was quite humid.

I suppose it will be soon that I will be dragging out the fall stuff to decorate the house, which I haven't yet (decorated that is). It's still a tad bit warm weather wise yet.

Please keep the folks in Canisteo, Greenwood, Troupsburg, Gangs Mills, and Addison in prayers. They are being evacuated as we speak. They are under water.

Hodgepodging...

 Day off, yay! Ask me what I am doing, go head (grin). Absolutely NOTHING! {{grin}}

1. Monday, August 16th was National Roller Coaster Day. Are you a fan? Did you celebrate? Last place/time you rode a roller coaster?

I love roller coasters and haven't been on one in like 30 years or so.

2. Tell us about a time in your life where it felt like you were figuratively riding a roller coaster.

Lately every single day...so let's just keep it real, shall we?

--family issues

--working a job

--dealing with the political turmoil

--dealing with life in general

3. Favorite treat to eat at an amusement park or state fair?

Funnel Cakes

4. Are you easy to get along with? Elaborate.

LOLOLOLOLOL. As a matter of fact, my co workers and others say I am a joy to be around and I have a infectious laugh, smile and a leadership type attitude...and my response was, "You really don't know me very well, do you?" LOLOLOLOLOL

--in all seriousness, I am a very difficult, wound up type of person who wears her feelings openly. I am done apologizing for being so. God made me this way for a reason, just saying. Now, with that said, I know when to keep my big mouth shut, unfort. the eyes give it way...one day those rolling eyes will stay in my head. LOLOLOLOLOL

5. Something on your calendar to see-do-read-accomplish or just enjoy before month's end?

Hmm...I can tell you where we are going on Saturday, my day off. Up to Penn Yan (short drive). Since the Keuka Lake Arts Festival was moved to Sept. which reminds me, I have to put in for the time off {{gosh, I am so funny, like I am the Queen of Sheba, how likely they will give the whole weekend off, lololololol}}.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

One can  hope the hot humid weather will be gone sooner than later. LOL

Tuesday Meme

Joining in on the Tuesday Meme.

This week let's talk about engagements and marriage.

1. If you are married would you share how your husband proposed to you?

I knew it was coming as we had discussed it --we had been living together beforehand. He went to my dad and my dad said No as we already were living in sin. Then my husband turned around and walked outside and told me what my dad had said and said it was up to me, not him. Which, asking my my dad was honorable, but it really was my decision.

How long were you engaged before you got married?

Over a year-maybe two. We had originally planned a huge spring wedding of 300+ guests but that was cancelled at the last minute as the military wouldn't allow him to come home due to circumstances that the gvt. was facing at the time. Then we got married on Dec. 31, 1988. I was 21 and he was 22.

If you aren't married, what would be ideal for you?

Honestly...I am just going to say it... I am not an easy person to live with and that was told to my husband several times. I prob. shouldn't be married, I have a bad stubborn streak that was tried to be beaten out of me when I was little by my parents, it only made it worse. Then again, my husband has always said he never married a weak woman and if he wanted a weak woman he would of found someone like his mother. Ouch.

2. Did you receive an engagement ring? Would you show us or describe it for us?

It would be the 2 rings first, then the 15 yr anniversary ring, then he later bought a huge Aquamarine and then a heart shaped ruby. I do take off my engagement ring and wedding band and anniversary band at night. I don't normally wear the other 2 due to the fear of loosing them. I have since lost weight and also fear of loosing the wedding/engagement ones too.

for the record, he did take me to Gordon's (which was on the corner of Main in Ocala). I did pick out the engagement ring and wedding band. I remember it cost $1,600 and his dad helped pay for it. Yep. His dad was a special man and I sure miss him...his death hit me hard. We had been married for 2 years when his dad died.

3. What kind of wedding did you have? Was it big or small, formal, informal, religious or justice of the peace. Inquiring minds want to know!

It was originally planned at Blessed Trinity in Ocala, FL. We both went thru the Pre Canna classes etc. Him in California and me in Fl. Anyways, between the unforeseen circumstances of not coming home and my attitude towards the Catholic church (they wanted us to sign a piece of paper stating we would raise children in the Catholic church)-it was cancelled. We were married at my parents house in front of the fire place by the Justice of the Peace. It was a small intimate affair with a backyard picnic. Again, the living in sin and the issues of not raising our son in the Catholic church thing; my parents to this day won't let me forgot it. Of course, there is more to the story but that is the gist of it.

4.Was there a honeymoon? Where did you go, how long did you stay?

No. I moved back to California. Like I said, we were already living in sin, so there was no need to have a honeymoon. Never had one.

for the kind comments on yesterdays post. It's that stubbornness that keeps me going back to the j-o-b. I was in no mood to deal with joking around etc. yesterday evening-the boss man is back too. So, I just stayed out of his way until he left at 5:30-6. Loaded water for 2 hrs. just so I didn't have to speak to him, oh I am sure he could of "found me" -which he did but he didn't say much of anything. Just (he) said, "I blame you." Ok, whatever was my reply. grin---I knew he was joking...I am just too tired. I also know his assistant left him a note in regards to my schedule. So that comment was probably in regards to that.

Monday, August 16, 2021

Currently...

Well...hello there! Long time no see. On Day 7 of 8 for work. To say being tired is a true understatement. Luckily, today and tomorrow will bring 4-8; only a 4 hr day. Thank goodness.

Currently linking back to Stacy.

Weather...62* and sunny. Been cooling off in the evenings. Hopefully the downslide to the fall season will be happening in September.

My Job...where did the so called part time job go too? However, with that said, the week of August 22-30 is only 29 hrs. Thank goodness. I am perfectly happy with that. I might did complain the other day. Something along the lines of, "Hey, are seriously trying to kill me? Whose bright idea is it too schedule me originally for 10 days?" Why? Because it really made me mad; lifting water all day, its a million degrees out in the warehouse (million degrees outside too), seeing others who just had like 4 days off getting weekends off, to which I have not etc. Actually, I hit the madness/cuckoo stage yesterday...I was so tired, hot and irritated. I finally just exploded at a fellow employee when he came in at 11:30 and told him to handle the frigging water, I am done. And I was. Dan (my bosses assistant), "Ok, then." Ok is right. On that thought, he was so busy himself (it was just the two of us until 11:30) he had not a clue I was STILL working water pallets.

Celebrating...nothing really. I didn't even bring home any goodies on Thursday's payday. However, since you asked here are the last two items I did bring home;

Straight out of Ireland.

Marukawa Gum from Japan. Oh and I am sorry my employer does not have a online order, oh you can order groceries, but they do not mail order.

Dealing with...a lot of stuff. Since I mainly see friends (who are former and present gv. employees, business owners etc.) and former colleagues/professors who come thru my work...I know;

-vacations
-sicknesses/death
-retirements
-job loss
-political news (before it happens)
-govern. news (before it happens)
 etc.

Since the majority of folks have gleefully handed over their rights...just a saying. This pitting folks against one another is working, sadly.

Home front...(which prob. could go into above's thoughts) we have stopped searching for a home. I think I mentioned it before. Other than that, nothing to report. Just dealing with a lot of irritability on so many 'fronts'. The thought:

Which brings me to the irritability...let's just keep it real. I am quite sure a lot has to do with the stage of life I am personally in right now. Again, keeping it real.

I am so ready...in 2 weeks (whatever weeks)...I see we will have 4 weeks total of hot weather here. Then its all on the downslide, hurray. Can't wait.

Want a little Bourbon Maple Syrup with That?

First, I just want to say thank you for the continuing comments...I had forgot about approving Monday's comments (about the Cinderella bowl). I came home from work at 1 and promptly became a couch potato (grin). Starting today I am on a 8 day work week (got it cut to 8) and time will be short. Crazy hours as well...so forgive me if I don't get to your blogs or approving the posts.

Want a little Bourbon Maple Syrup with That? What? Don't judge me {{grinning}}. Everybody who knows me knows I have an affection for Bourbon.

My employer likes to sell local sourced products. Maple Guild is from Island Pond, Vermont a mere 7 hr. drive. Look what I found when I was straightening shelves...much to my husbands (and sons') dismay, new things have been coming home with me. They ought not complain much; once a week on payday, I bring something new home. My employer also has a vast knowledge and sourced items from overseas as well. Last week it was candy from Japan, the week before it was Shepherds Pix mix from Ireland and so on.

So, what's a girl to do with that syrup? Why, make French Toast with Confection Sugar and butter on top. Go ahead and ask me if it was good {{and it was}}.

ROFL

The last several days have been near 100*. Yesterday it was 97. I don't know how many times I have to say this, but I am not a summer girl, never will be. I am looking forward to Fall and then Winter. And of course

from last year.

Pumpkin hunting at Fitzpatrick's {{grinning}}---hope each of you have a beautiful day. I'll check in when I can.

Tuesday Meme

Joining in with the Tuesday Meme. Thanks Ann...smiles

1. Reading anything good lately?  How about magazines? Do you buy any?

Nope, not reading any books lately...but I am a lifelong member of

and our landlady she always leaves me her Woman's Day when she is done with it. Which is greatly appreciated.

2. Do you belong to any clubs, societies, or do you meet with friends regularly to chat?

Nope...if you mean the ladies men at work...then ok. They are worse than women in terms of gossiping. LOL

3. Where are you from originally and if you moved why did you move?

Ok here goes...and since I just had a long discussion with the men at work about this...(because you know, my accent gives it a way that I am not from NY, and they are all trying to figure out where exactly I come from.)

1. I was born in Hammond, Indiana

2. Raised in/near Chicago

3. Moved to Ocala, FL when I was like in kindergarten.

4. Left Ocala when I was 18-19; my husband was in the Marines (wasn't married at the time, so yeah, lived in sin).

5. Got married, lived in Vero Beach, FL

6. Moved to Hudson, NY lived there for 5 years (my fil needed help on the farm-then he passed away).

7. Then we moved to Tuscaloosa, AL and lived there for 21  years. Had our son and raised him etc.

8. Then we moved here to the present State of NY when our son was 16 as he graduated from high school and was accepted to college and was too young to live here by himself. Been here nearly 9 years now.

And its time to make changes, just saying. Who would of ever thought that a pandemic and forever masks/shutdowns would have been in the future? Not us...that's for sure. I try not to let politics cloud my judgement, but social welfare for everyone is not the way to live, just saying.

4. Do you like a good Western Movie? Who was your favorite movie/TV Cowboy?

I really  like western movies; John Wayne and Clint Eastwood I like. Not really favorite movies, just like them all.

yep, pretty much. lol
