Taco Tuesday

Good morning from an already balmy Tuesday early 5:20 am morning. It looks like we might get some rain today, let's hope so.

Taco Tuesday was coined by a Taco John's owner back in 1980 when he needed to jack up sales for Tuesday the slowest day of the week.   His franchise began offering 2 tacos for 99¢.  It was a huge hit and Taco Tuesday became a big hit in America. But its original name was Taco Twos Day.

Could we look at Tuesday a bit?

1. Do you take part in this nationwide ritual and have tacos on Tuesday or do you like them any old time? I like them anytime...I don't like lettuce, hubby does. So, he likes to load them up.

2. This particular Taco John's was in Wyoming.  Does your state have a favorite fast-food place and do you like eating there? I am not sure if the state of Florida does, but here in Ocala, I love our Taco truck that sits outside a bar on our street corner- They know us by name now, LOL.

not my photo

I also love EL Toreo on State Road 200. They make the best Chicken Chimichangas-hold the beans, I don't like beans or refried beans.

3. Taco Tuesday was trademarked in 1989 in 49 states except New Jersey where the Gregory Hotel owns that trademark.  Taco Bell wants to sue over the use of the term.  What do you think about that?

Taco Bell is NOT real Mexican food, so Taco Bell can shove it. When my husband was stationed in San Diego, we use to cross the border and that is really Mexican food. Tacos are NOT supposed to be made of fake meat and heavy sauce like Taco Bell is. We watched a show on the History Channel, How Food Is Made (or was it Fast Food? Can't remember) and they talked about Taco Bell, nasty stuff...my stomach can't handle that place. Our Taco truck and EL Toreo are close to the real thing.

3 more days and I will be going to the end of the Earth-i.e. the end of the Earth, my toes in the sand and the Atlantic Ocean. It sure feels like one is going to the end of the Earth once you cross over the bridge. My mind is already there, lol. Well, after sitting on my rear all weekend, time to get back to work i.e. reality. Today and tomorrow then I am off. Have a beautiful day all.

Memorial Day

I ain't got nothing Sunday Chat...

umm...maybe I ought to plead the 5th. LOL

Time: 6:45 am-got up early because Ms. Lily Belle was ringing the bell to go out.

Scene: 72* and sunny on this Sunday morning. Gonna be a hot one again, 95*.

Drinking: Fixing to get a second cup of Breakfast Maxwell House coffee.

Thinking:

--Speaking of Lily...this is what she does all day long. I gather she is becoming more like her owners-no one wants to go out in this heat and humidity. L-a-z-y.

Which I was yesterday (l-a-z-y). We were out of the house by 7 am, got the oil change, stopped at the

Diner on the Square where we had breakfast for a total of $15(always a lot of food!) then went to Walmart and was back home by 9:30. And know what we did? NOTHING. I retreated to the couch where I stayed until 10pm. I am now on Season 14 for Midsomer Murder. I made Nathan's hot dogs for dinner at around 4 pm, as that was what hubby wanted.

**hey on another thought, it's great to be able to pause tv programs. What a day and age we live in now.

--summer is upon us here in Florida. Or as I should say the humidity is upon us here. Just plain "ugh".

--The neighbors to the left of us are having all their trees removed. One fell the other day during a storm and demolished their shed-and hit our privacy fence, they fixed our fence, which was super nice of them. So, now they are having all the trees removed. Pretty smart...what with hurricane season and all.

--I really ain't got nothing today. It is really just so hot and humid; the ac is nice. Hubby said, "Are we having another staycation today?" You betcha. Yikes, the price of gasoline, $3.59 gallon here.

Making me laugh:

You have heard me mention this plenty of times, but Ocala isn't slow anymore. One literally takes their own life in their hands when they get out on the roads. I am seeing a lot more northern license plates nowadays.

**hmm,...could it be that folks are just fed up with politics? Especially when you have desperate northern governors running their non smart mouths.

Tuesday Meme...oops forgot...

Oops, forgot about the meme and posting this week. I'll be back later to visit y our blogs. Hubby wants to get out early; oil change in my SUV, and then the grocery store.

Welcome back to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.

Books are such a big part of many people's lives. Maybe we should talk about that.

1. Do you have some books in your home? Bawaaaaaaaaaaa....books are everywhere. I love books. If so what subjects are they? Historical to mysteries. There might a few sci fi thrown in the mix. Which is your favorite? Historical and mystery.

2. Do you enjoy browsing around in bookstores? Yes, Do you have a favorite you like to go to? Nope. Barns and Noble are just too expensive. I usually go to secondhand stores.

3. Do you think real books are clutter or do you just love having them around you? Well, I am a firm believer in the IF and WHEN the world goes to pot, I will always have a book to read. One can never have enough books.

4. What is the oldest book you've read and what is the newest book you've read or are reading. Hmm...haven't a clue...I do have a few books that are from the early 1900's. I go to Ollies quite often to get books, but they are least 2-3 yrs. old by the time I get them.

A nice 3-day weekend off, then back to work for 2-day sand then Thur. and Friday off. Hubby has got at least one of those days planned, so it seems. I said, "Excuse me...the beach????" lol---because we all know I need a mental health day. lol

Why, yes it should be. LOL

Sunday Chat...

Time: 8 am

Scene: Presently cloudy but been thunder storming since 6 am or so. 73* and there is a marginal risk for severe weather today.

Drinking: Second cup of Breakfast Blend Maxwell House coffee with Italian Sweet Cream.

Random Questions from around the World Wide Web:

What do you get every time you go grocery shopping? Every time? Simply Orange Juice, milk, Italian Bread and Minute Rice packets/packages for my lunch(s).

Are you a Goodwill, or any secondhand store customer? Both. Aren't they the same? Don't they both make a profit?

What impresses you? Not much these days. Although I am somewhat impressed by the KC kicker who is not backtracking on his beliefs. It's refreshing to see a person who speaks of Faith and Jesus Christ. And I am sure his actions will have consequences. And what a sad world we live in where those actions will be harsh. But yet, the abortion loving person holding the highest office gets accolades.

What motivates you more-a reward or a consequence? Both. since I am employed in a consequence job, and hence forth why I won't answer the death penalty question, I would say that motivates me NOT to be like the women who are guests of the state and to which 2 are on death row. Your actions always have consequences.

May 14th is National Buttermilk Biscuit Day. Who thinks biscuits deserve their own day? Do you like biscuits? Yes Make your own? Not on your life. Grab one for breakfast at a drive-through now and then? Yes. Which drive-through makes the one you like best? Hardees What do you like to put on a biscuit? Butter and Jam or Orange Marmalade. What's your favorite food or dish that calls for buttermilk? Biscuits.

Thinking: Hubby is onto me about making the breakfast casserole, I suppose I ought to get around to do so.

yep, have reached this season, LOL. Have a beautiful day folks.

Currently...

Currently.... The weather at 8:45 am on a Saturday morning is a balmy 85* (real feel). We have had some powerful afternoon storms, today looks to be another sort of that day.

I'm reading... a book by Brenda Novak "The Bookstore on the Beach".

Listening to...let's see the, hubby put on the box fan here in the 3rd bedroom. The sun faces this side of the house all day, so it does get warm. Hubby is listening to something on YouTube and Lily Belle is snoring on the floor next to me.

Watching...still on Midsomer Murder. In the middle of Season 11.

I'm thinking...hurray to that football kicker for speaking the truth-amazingly he hasn't backed down from his convictions.

thinking...can I survive another week then it's off to the beach.

thinking...hmm...what's for dinner? lol--I guess I ought to be thinking what's for breakfast.

Grateful for...great annual leave, I left early yesterday at 3 and called hubby to tell him and he goes, "Hey want to meet me at McDonalds?" So, met him at McDonalds. Come to think of it, we didn't even eat dinner last night, LOL. So, grateful for leave and a hubby who can think spur of the moment things.

Enjoying the fact that when I leave the house at 6 am and by the time I get to county road 475 (8 min.) its light out. Quite enjoying seeing the sun rise. Although some mornings have been cloudy.

Looking forward to... having Memorial Day off then come back to work Tues. and Wed and then off Thursday and Friday heading to the beach.

Making me laugh...

Last thought(s)...

--The pants saga...so, hubby called, and they literally laughed at him...so, he got the tag off himself. He might have said some words like morons or something or the other. 1. They didn't think it warranted a trip back to the store or even 2. Pay for them. He actually thinks they thought we were morons.

--Yes, I am up at it by 3:30. I have to leave by 6 because of traffic. But this coming week, is the last week of school for the kiddos in the state of Florida, so I might be able to leave later. it's just getting thru security at work that takes whatever amount of time. By the time I actually get to my desk its 7:30.

Tuesday Meme...

It's time for Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.. just four questions each week for you to ponder and share your thoughts, likes and dislikes.  You can visit others and see their opinions and hopefully make some new blogging friends.

Can we talk about mornings? We all have them, right?

1. Do you jump out of bed or hit the deck running as I call it or are you slow to get up to speed in the morning?

Since my alarm rings off at 3:30-I am up and at it.

2. Do you start the day with coffee or tea?  Or do other things help you wake up like washing your face, etc.?

I shower, dry/style hair, put on makeup, dress for the day then have 1 cup of coffee before I eat breakfast.

3. Is the best part of waking up some Folgers in your cup? What brand of coffee or tea lights your fire?

Maxwell House Breakfast Blend. Only one cup here, I have a Keurig on my desk (on the "L") and I get a cup there. I really like the New England brands but find myself gravitating back to Maxwell.

4. In the Netherlands toast with hefty style chocolate sprinkles are a usual breakfast.  Italy also begins the day with rolls or cookies.  Britain and America are eggs, bacon, toast, or cereal. What about you? What is a typical breakfast for you?

Typical it's a pancake (the kind you who heat up from frozen), butter and syrup. But since I didn't get pancakes this week, I will have a fried egg, toast and yogurt. I always keep Vanilla yogurt on hand, it's good for your digestive system. I do not like Greek at all. I do like Fage, but it's a little expensive. So, I will usually stick with generic brand.

It's all good chat...

It's all good, honest. I'm good on this Mother's Day. :)

Time: 7:30 am

Scene: 65* sunny. Another warm May Day is on tap for Florida...it is that time of the year, sigh.

Drinking: Second cup of Maxwell House with Sweet Italian Creamer.

Thinking:

*Wishing each of you a Happy Mother's Day, regardless of if you have children or not. It is important to lift women up no matter what day it is.

* Hubby got me this humongous Mother's Day card, another bottle of Clinique Happy perfume and socks (?socks? I don't wear socks in the summer, lol). I wouldn't really call them socks, it's the kind you wear with dress shoes or flats. I guess there still socks.

*We went to Marshalls yesterday, as I desperately need summer work clothes. Found 4 blouses and a pair of pants for under $100. And as we were leaving the store alarm went off...couldn't figure out why (the people were like, its ok, we know you paid etc.)...then we get home and was taking the tags off and lo and behold, the security tags were left on the pants...then the bottom fell out; my husband was looking at the receipt and he goes, "I don't think you paid for these pants." --oh gosh, I'm going to jail for shoplifting, going to lose my job etc. (I was whining) ---so, I will go back to Marshalls today...you all have no idea how bad I feel. STOP LAUGHING. My conscious is really bothering me-besides how can I get the security tag off?

*Will visit my mom today.

*Need to go too Publix today too and put gas in my SUV for the week.

What's for Dinner?

Hubby mentioned meatball subs...but I made Goulash yesterday and have plenty of leftovers. Hubby said meatball subs-he'll make them. He said I can take Goulash for lunch this week, LOL.

Random Smile:

Have a beautiful day all...

Changes in Attitude...

Thanks, Myra, for the idea!!!

I was thinking...do you remember the Jimmy Buffet song? Yeah...been on my mind...probably time to drag his books out and start dreaming again.

So, what bought this thought back? Probably multiple things such as Myra's post and the dinner my husband made the other day. Since it seems summer is upon us here in the great state of Florida, he has been cooking outside. He made the most delicious BBQ chicken the other night or was it because I was practically starving? Nonetheless, it was very good :).

I sat there reflecting on things; food, the great migrate back home, politics & the sad state of affairs the world is in (not going there!), fashion (mainly what is in my Imelda Marcos closet, lol--remember her?) and just generally how far we have come since our son passed away.

Myra made me laugh over her thought about stockings and formal dress wear and how some folks say women don't look polish if they don't wear stockings. Me, I think bull honky. I could not imagine wearing stockings in this 90* humid weather. Sandals and flip flops have become my norm now even with whatever I choose to wear to work. I have several pairs of Sketchers or Coface sandals and lucky enough, I am not so far up in the food chain that I can do so. Can you imagine having to dress nicely with heels or a skirt/dress in this unbearable heat. No thanks...besides, I have a dr.'s note for shoes. Sure, it would be nice to look "professional"-I think I would probably have to buck the system if I was forced to do so. I simply don't know how folks who are higher up than me can do it. No thanks, my feet aren't made for formal shoes nor a blazer on a daily basis...On to another thought...

oh, how I wish

Working a full-time job that requires me to travel 19 miles one way, but a 45 min. drive has left me just mentally exhausted. I've mentioned it before. My hubby asked me to take a couple of days off soon., with the comment, "Why are you saving your leave time? You surely can't use it if your dead!" Well, now, that is a sobering thought. I have 140 hours of annual leave and 139 hours of sick time accumulated. I know of folks who have over 340 hours...and who refuse to take time off. Well, I took a long hard look at those folks and realized I don't want to be like them. Having a job/career is great, but sometimes one has to have a mental health day. So, going to take a 4-day weekend (Thursday and Friday) at the end of month. Hubby mentioned finally heading over to Caladesi Island off of Clearwater. We shall see...I do know a beach trip it will be. So, changes in Latitudes will change an attitude. At least, for me it will...although briefly. :)

why, yes...yes, I am... although hubby did mention we have to step out sometime today to go see my mother.

On that sobering thought, I will end this post with some questions from Myra:

Thought Completion

When I was .......younger, I thought my current age of 57 was old...now, maybe it is correct, its old...and life has flown by. Life was so different.

By the time I was .......I was middle age and looked back...I have wasted so many years by pleasing others. Where did it get me? Nowhere.

Now that I am .....older than dirt...And on that thought, I am not wearing stockings, no thanks. Those ugly veined legs will have to remain. Sorry, folks, 57 years old. Those years of being thin, starving myself and exercising to remain skinny and such, done and over with. You gotta love yourself no matter what. THAT is a work in progress. Opened that pandoras box. LOL

Well, now, Cookie Monster has that right!

yep...so very true...smiles. Have a great day all!!!!

Tuesday Meme on a Sunday...

Good morning from a balmy Florida. I do believe summer is upon us here. I let the dog out at 12:30 last night and it was 85*. Just plain ick.

Welcome to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.

Let's talk about you personally.

1. Do you pamper yourself at all? Pamper? Like get nails or spa day. Nope. If yes, how do you do that? It would be nice to get my nails done professionally, but simply put, can't afford it. I know there are people at work who do and pay close $150. No thanks. I can think of better ways to spend money.

2.What kinds of foods/dishes do you consider to be a real treat? Donuts. Donuts are a treat. We get donuts twice a month. Yesterday we got Raspberry filled aka Jelly.

3. What luxury item/items do you consider would be very hard to do without? (like buying books, having your hair done... just about anything you really could do without but prefer not to.)

Since moving back here, I have had to change my whole routine of not buying generic hair products. I now invest in good haircare products (because of the humidity) of Paul Mitchell Awaphui shampoo and conditioner, Sebastian Potion #9 for leave in conditioner and Paul Mitchell Ginger hairspray. I still use Dove soap and Jergens lotion. I also get my hair done/trimmed every 4 weeks. Speaking of which, I will prob. go today as the guy who cuts my hair is only in on Sundays.

Books--I love books. Prob, could do without, but I love them. Because when the electrical grid and war breaks out etc. I will have books to read LOL.

4. What kind of holiday or vacation would be a total luxury with which you might pamper yourself?

Anytime we can get to the beach. Just sit there and do nothing, not have to worry about hair, makeup, what kind of clothes to wear (getting dressed for work) etc. Just put on that bathing suit, cover, ball cap and go. The sand and water do wonders for my arthritic feet. Not to mention allergies...just breathing in the salt air does wonder for one's mind and soul.

Yesterday we stopped at the church yard sale and bought a mattress cover for our bed. Brand new still in the bag for $2.50. Yep, read that right. My husband also bought a pickaxe head for the handle for $5. We also stopped here and there at antique stores and junk stores. We were home by 1. It just was too hot. Now that the real warm humid weather is here, time to change things around. Not that really matters, as it stays this way even late into the evening. But it does mean changing the way/what one eats and drinks.

Hodgepodging...

Hodgepodge into May...I will answer the Tuesday Meme Questions tomorrow.

1. Mayday! Mayday!...when was the last time (or a recent time) you literally or figuratively needed to call for help? Elaborate.

We have been getting some really 'jacked' up Commitment Papers from the courts. So, yeah, I gave in and asked for help from my boss, who was more than happy to help. I had to make several phone calls this past week to Sheriff Depts. and even the courts seeking clarification.

2. May Day...when was the last time you danced? I don't dance. So, it's been a while.

Do you have a lot of baskets? Yes. What's something you keep in a basket? I keep books, glass flowers, towels. What's your favorite purple flower? Lavender

3. What's something you may do this month?

My husband actually just suggested I take a couple of days off and go to the beach. I know the calendar at work is booked for Memorial Day with folks taking off for the long 3-day weekend...so maybe the middle of the month.

4. Do you like eggplant? EWWWW Quick topic changes lol? If you said yes in answer to the eggplant question how do you like yours prepared? Of the following purple foods, which one is your favorite...plums, purple carrots, purple asparagus, eggplant, acai berries, blackberries, purple cauliflower, elderberries, purple potatoes, or passion fruit? I like all that were mentioned.

5. The calendar turns on Hodgepodge Day...

"Then you have to remember to be thankful; but in May one simply can't help being thankful that they are alive, if for nothing else."-L.M. Montgomery

Tell us one thing you're thankful for today.

A home...but it's getting harder to just live/get by with the cost of everything going up.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I am awaiting the hubby to get done with his coffee, we are going to head out to soon. There is a huge yearly yard sale/gymnasium sale at a local church by our old high school. Have a great day all.
