1.6.1.5 The work areas shall be barricade and warning sign shall be
displayed to prevent from unauthorised person access into the
work areas.
Setting out and site demarcation for soil nailing work will be
carried out prior drilling works.
Drilling
150mm diameter bore holes (for T32) and 200mm diameter
bore holes (for T40) are drilled at the required locations with
rotary percussive drilling machines to the required depth and
inclinations as per drawings.
1.6.2.4 Grouting
Completed soil nail bar and pull out test shall be properly
recorded with details (eg. length, position and location of
slope).
The diameter of the drilled hole will be 100mm with 5.7° (1:10)
degree inclination. As drilling progresses, the drill hole will be
flushed periodically and extension rods added until the drill
hole has achieved the required depth. The flushing of the
drilled will be by compressed air from an air compressor.
Soil nail head and capping will be fixed after the completion of
soil nailing and guniting works.
The shotcrete layer will be laid starting from the bottom and
proceed upward. The shotcrete will be sprayed perpendicular
to the slope at the distance 1m to 2m. The shotcrete sprayed
onto the slope in a circular manner.
1.7.1.4 The soil nail will be grouted over the length as specified and
temporary unbounded length will be provided for the test.
1.7.1.5 The maximum test load (TL) will be 2.0 times the design
working load.
1.7.1.7 The verification test nail will be monitored for creep at the
150DL load increment. Nail movements during the creep
portion of the test will be measured and recorded at 1, 2, 3, 5,
6, 10, 15, 25, 30, 45 and 60 minutes.
1.7.1.8 The nail will be unloaded in decrements of 25% with
1.7.1.1 The maximum allowable test load will not exceed 80% of the
0 ultimate tensile strength of the steel bar forming the soil nail.
1.7.2 Results
1.7.2.1 The followings will be recorded during pull out test of soil nail :
- Project Title
- Soil Nail Reference Number & Location
- Type, Length of Reinforcement Used
- Date of Installation & Testing
- Type and The Capacity of Hydraulic Jack

Test Load (% of
Holding Time (Minimum)
Working Load)
5 1 minute
25 10 minutes
50 10 minutes
75 10 minutes
100 10 minutes
125 10 minutes
150 If the nail movement on MTL between 1
175 minute and 10 minutes exceeds 1mm, the
200 maximum test load shall be maintained an
additional 50 minutes and movement shall be
recorded at 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 minutes.
Safety Equipment :
Site personnel must wear proper safety working attire.
Approved type hard hats shall be worn during working hours at worksite.
First Aid Boxes in the charge of a responsible person have to be kept on all sites.
SAMPLE
Housekeeping :
Work areas shall be kept tidy and neat during and at the end of each working
day.
Material shall be stacked up steadily, safety for work and access not to be
obstructed in any way.
Refer to Appendix 3
3. ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES
3.1.2 There are no specific risks to the environment other than dust and noise
during excavation work. SAMPLE
3.1.5 Reduce water quality - surface run-off and water must be treated before
discharge to the stream.
3.1.9 All chemical and scheduled waste must be properly managed as stated in
Environmental Quality Act (EQA, 1974) Scheduled Waste Regulation
(2005).
