IRRIGATION WORK
SCOPE OF WORK
The scope of work covers the following activities such as setting out, excavation works, laying
pipe, jointing, installation of accessories and testing.
The following equipment and manpower are proposed to be used for this activities
1) Backhoe - 1 no
2) Concrete mixer - 1 no
3) Surveyor - 1
4) Supervisor - 1
5) Skill workers - 4
6) General workers - 3
SETTING OUT
1 The width of trench excavation shown on the drawing shall be adhered to.
2 Generally, the width of the trench should be minimum dimension compatible with the safe
working and satisfactory laying, jointing and bedding of the pipe.
3 The width at the crown of the pipe should not be less than the outside diameter of the pipe
plus 300 mm to allow for proper compaction of the surround.
1
4 The minimum depth of excavation should be at lease 900 mm.
5 The trench floor should be carefully trimmed to level.
6 Trenching should not proceed too far ahead of pipe laying so that possible damage due to
flooding and spoil surcharge may be avoided.
1. All materials such as HDPE pipe, all accessories, sluice valve, air valve, precast concrete
chamber and fitting shall be approved before commencement the work
2. Pipe size shall be followed as per construction drawing.
3. Before lowering the pipelines into the trench, pipe shall be checked from cuts, deep
scratches or any other pipe damage
4. When lowering pipe into trench care should again be taken to avoid damage of the pipe by
contact with the sides and bottom of the trench
5. Location of all fitting, tee junction, bend, valve and others tapping shall be followed as per
approved shop drawing
6. Air valve tees and washout tees may be installed at the pipe joint nearest to the specified
position
7. Approved socket shall be used for pipe joint
8. After pipe is completely laid check all socket to make sure the joint is intact
9. Granular material shall be used as fill materials
10. Fill materials shall be compacted
11. After pipe laying the ground shall reinstate to the original conditions.
TESTING
1 Pressure test and leakage test shall be conducted once the pipe laying is ready.
2 The testing procedures to be carried out for pressure and leakage as stated in the
specification.
3 Wherever possible, the test position should be located at the lowest point of the pipeline
profile to encourage the expulsion of air as the pipeline is been filled.
4 Adequate air vents should be sited at all high points.
2
5 The pipeline should then be filled with water and ensure that all air is removed. It is then
left to stabilize at its temperature until the next day.
6 The pipe temperature should be maintained at ambient temperature at approximately 30ºC,
as this is critical during the pressure testing.
7 A marked loss of the test pressure, together with visual inspection of the test section for
leaks, is used as evidence of failure of the test section.
8 A pressure gauge shall be connected to the valve inlet pipe.
9 Should any appreciable drop in pressure be noted during one of these pauses the test shall
be stopped until the cause of the pressure drop has been investigated and rectified.
10 The pressure/strength test shall be considered to have passed when the pressure gauge
shows no reduction in pressure during the specified one-minute pause and also during the
period of 10 minute after full test pressure has been attained.
11 The leakage test shall then follow. The pressure shall be reduce to specified bars head of
water.
12 The test shall be maintained as constant as possible for a period of 24 hours.
13 Make-up water shall be pumped into the section of the pipeline from time to time to
maintain this pressure.
14 The leakage test shall be considered pass if the make-up water pumped into the section of
the pipeline does not exceed the allowable leakage.
15 All leaks discovered shall be repaired and the section shall be tested again.
