Resumen: El objetivo de este estudio es la revisión de una parte significativa de la literatura existente sobre indicadores en la web social, en el contexto del social media marketing, y la propuesta de una serie de indicadores para la Biblioteca social, que ayude a las unidades de información a evaluar el uso e impacto de los servicios que ofrecen a través de las herramientas de la web social o web 2.0, con el objetivo de poder obtener los costes y retorno de inversión (ROI) de dichos servicios. Aunque la evaluación es una tarea con larga tradición bibliotecaria, en este artículo nos planteamos valorar el ROI, como justificación necesaria ante las organizaciones que sustentan dichas unidades de información, demostrando el valor añadido que ofrecen los servicios de la web social. This project studies how to establish a training and development plan in a rural local Church. Training, in Church contexts, occurs during worship, in Sunday School, and other Church activities on Sundays or any other day during the week. The language about the training may differ from what the corporate world uses. However, the concepts are the same. Churches can thrive only when they master needs assessment, train to equip their congregants to meet the needs, and have in place a system to always check on how they are doing with regards to their ministry goals.

Assessing the returns of public sector investments in Information Technology (IT) has been the subject of a round of debates between practitioners and the academic researchers. The range and complexity of government Information Technology (IT) investments and broad community of benefit owners makes assessing investment returns a daunting prospect. This paper provides a short review of existing literature on Public Return on Investment (ROI) and the general approaches to measurement of such returns. It also presents some examples of successful Public ROI programs and practices in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The intention of this paper is to share experience and knowledge with the wider research and practitioner community in different governments.

The ability of Minkowski Functionals to characterize local structure in different biological tissue types has been demonstrated in a variety of medical image processing tasks. We introduce anisotropic Minkowski Functionals (AMFs) as a novel variant that captures the inherent anisotropy of the underlying gray-level structures. To quantify the anisotropy characterized by our approach, we further introduce a method to compute a quantitative measure motivated by a technique utilized in MR diffusion tensor imaging, namely fractional anisotropy. We showcase the applicability of our method in the research context of characterizing the local structure properties of trabecular bone micro-architecture in the proximal femur as visualized on multi-detector CT. To this end, AMFs were computed locally for each pixel of ROIs extracted from the head, neck and trochanter regions. Fractional anisotropy was then used to quantify the local anisotropy of the trabecular structures found in these ROIs and to compare its distribution in different anatomical regions. Our results suggest a significantly greater concentration of anisotropic trabecular structures in the head and neck regions when compared to the trochanter region (p < 10-4). We also evaluated the ability of such AMFs to predict bone strength in the femoral head of proximal femur specimens obtained from 50 donors. Our results suggest that such AMFs, when used in conjunction with multi-regression models, can outperform more conventional features such as BMD in predicting failure load. We conclude that such anisotropic Minkowski Functionals can capture valuable information regarding directional attributes of local structure, which may be useful in a wide scope of biomedical imaging applications.

This paper focuses on a biometric cryptosystem implementation and evaluation based on a number of fingerprint texture descriptors. The texture descriptors, namely, the Gabor filter-based FingerCode, a local binary pattern (LBP), and a local direction pattern (LDP), and their various combinations are considered. These fingerprint texture descriptors are binarized using a biometric discretization method and used in a fuzzy commitment scheme (FCS). We constructed the biometric cryptosystems, which achieve a good performance, by fusing discretized fingerprint texture descriptors and using effective error-correcting codes. We tested the proposed system on a FVC2000 DB2a fingerprint database, and the results demonstrate that the new system significantly improves the performance of the FCS for texture-based fingerprints.

With the increase of terrorist and criminal activities, closed circuit television (CCTV) is widely used on many occasions. However, abuse of surveillance video may result in the leakage of personal privacy. To protect the privacy in the video of CCTV, an encryption scheme for region of interest (ROI) of H.264 video based on flexible macroblock ordering (FMO) and chaos is proposed in this paper, where human face regions are selected as an example of ROI. First, the human face regions in the video are detected and extracted. Then, they are mapped into slice groups by using FMO technology in H.264. After that, these regions are encrypted using selective video encryption based on chaos. Experimental results and analysis show that the proposed scheme can effectively protect the private information of H.264 video and, therefore, can strike a good balance among the security, encryption efficiency, and coding performance. It has great potential to be used in the privacy protection of the video of CCTV.

Marketing in the 21st century involves the need for clear strategies to reach and engage target markets in an ever-evolving landscape.  In this paper, personalized marketing, technological shifts, new consumer trends, globalization, and pricing strategies are analyzed in order to shed more light on the challenges companies face in establishing and sustaining strong brands.

Since the early 1990s several empirical studies have been undertaken linking quality efforts such as total quality management (TQM) and Six Sigma to organizational performance. In the majority of these studies the organizational performance indicators typically include sales growth, operating income, profits, employee turnover, employee satisfaction, and customer satisfaction. Direct costs and savings of implementing quality management programs have seldom been studied, and many of these studies lack statistical rigor and objectivity. For example, sales growth could be affected by a number of other business environmental factors, so how can one isolate the effect of quality improvement programs on sales growth? Due to these limitations, the results of these studies are mixed, with some showing significant relationships between quality constructs and organizational performance measures and others not. This study also attempts to quantify the financial impact of Six Sigma programs. It differs, however, from previous studies in two ways. First, it evaluates the direct costs and direct operational savings of implementing Six Sigma programs, which, to the author's knowledge, was never done before. Second, it differs in terms of the research methodology used. The author undertook an extensive search of organizational annual reports and other published materials on Six Sigma organizations that provided the actual costs and savings related to implementing Six Sigma in 28 organizations. The main finding of this research is that effective implementation of Six Sigma led to an average savings of 1.7 percent of revenues over the period of implementation and an average return of more than $2 in direct savings for every dollar invested on Six Sigma. The findings of this research are useful for organizations implementing Six Sigma to have realistic expectations of the program and to monitor and benchmark the progress of their programs.

Abstract Marketing has been impacted by social media platforms and the Internet developments. To survive fierce competition, corporations have to take advantage of all the opportunities provided by Social Media (SM). Marketers need to evaluate the effectiveness of different SM channels and Return on Investment (ROI) measurement is critical in the management of SM marketing campaigns. This paper assesses SM ROI using Princess Andriana Hotel in Rhodes, Greece as a case study. It clarifies complicated concepts related to SM ROI measurement. A comprehensive framework, built around the landscape of SM ROI assessment supports measurability. A netnographic observation revealed suitable metrics for the evaluation of the SM activities. Five SM channels and a set of analytics tools were combined to measure SM ROI. The result identified both financial and non-financial returns. Finally, recommendations for future assessment of SM campaign are provided.

Wine has been considered to be mainly red in ancient Egypt linked with the blood of Osiris, the God of resurrection. No text that refers to white wines from the Dynastic Period (3150e332 BC) exists. The first white wine from ancient Egypt was made near Alexandria during the third century AD. To investigate the presence of white wine in ancient Egypt, dry residue samples from King Tutankhamun's amphorae are studied in this article using the LC/MS/MS method for wine markers. This investigation into the existence of white wines in Tutankhamun's tomb allows us to shed new light on the symbolism of white wine in ancient Egypt.

Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) is increasingly being used as a research tool in mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI). This article reviews the concepts of diffusion tensor imaging, neuropsychological testing and results to date when applied to mTBI in adults. DTI is being used in conjunction with neuropsychological and electrophysiological measures to provide improved structural/functional correlations of mTBI. Future directions and applications of DTI in mTBI research are suggested.

Ancient Egyptians were buried with the most precious food and drink as sustenance for their afterlife. One of these was Shedeh, the most valued and appreciated beverage in ancient Egypt. The botanic origin of Shedeh remains unclear as no mention of its raw material has survived. Some scholars have proposed that Shedeh was a pomegranate wine, while others, a grape wine. Presented here is the first ever analytical evidence of Shedeh's origin through the analysis of a sample of a residue from an extraordinarily well preserved Shedeh amphora from King Tutankhamun's collection. The previously developed LC/MS/MS wine markers method for archaeological samples was used and our results reveal Shedeh had a red grape origin.

The arrival of the body of King Tāufa‘āhau Tupou IV, in Tonga on 12 September 2006, prompted complex funerary rites modelled on those of the previous monarch, Queen Sālote. Instead of looking at how funerals reinforce kinship ties or what the effective cost is of the objects exchanged, I concentrate on the presented objects, which formed the focal point of the funerary rites. In doing so, I engage with Keane (2005: 184) who asserts the relevance of semiotics in answering the question: ‘How can we both understand things and do full justice to their materiality?’ I argue that traditional prestigious objects (barkcloth, mats, baskets and coconut oil), ‘modern-times’ valuables (flower garlands, flower baskets, and crocheted bed spreads), and contemporary objects (cakes wrapped in cling film, screens with chocolate, plastic baskets filled with bags of crisps, chocolate and sweets), materialise qualities the deceased king embodied as a descendant of a mythical ruler, as the fourth king in the modern Christian dynasty and as a contemporary ruler who reformed both education and economy. A consequence of materialising qualities is that they become contingently bound up with other qualities (Keane 2005: 188). I thus concentrate on those objects where the bundling of qualities is realised visually, examining how barkcloth, fine mats, baskets and coconut oil embody female generative power, protecting, controlling and linking qualities. It is the qualities of the objects bundled in the matter of the objects themselves that make some objects matter more than others.

Ce travail met en lumière les représentations du pouvoir royal qui se sont affrontées jusqu’en 1848 pour remplir le programme de réconciliation des « deux France » voulu par Louis XVIII. Elles se répartissent entre le désir du retour à l’Ancien Régime et la tentative de renouveler la fonction royale. Opposés aux ultraroyalistes, les partisans de cette voie originale souhaitent consacrer le constitutionnalisme libéral en recourant à un expédient inattendu, le pouvoir du Roi, qu’il convenait de remodeler. Comme chez Constant et Dunoyer, il s’agit de créer un quatrième pouvoir doté d’une essence propre et chargé d’une nouvelle mission : veiller sur les institutions. Ce pouvoir régulateur, modérateur ou préservateur produisit un débat passionné sur le terrain des idées et de la philosophie du droit entre ces Modernes et les Anciens. Tel Bonald, ces derniers préfèrent encourager le pouvoir conservateur de la société, quitte à revenir sur des dogmes établis (souveraineté, légitimité) ou sur des acquis indésirables (responsabilité) à même de nuire à la mission conservatrice confiée au Roi. La recherche du quatrième pouvoir contraint en effet à réviser entièrement le pouvoir royal, sa nature comme ses rapports avec les autres pouvoirs. En dépit de leur échec, ces réflexions marqueront durablement la pensée française sur le chef de l’État en renaissant au gré des conjonctures. Il sera alors intéressant de reconsidérer le rôle du chef de la Ve République à la lumière de cet héritage ambivalent.

This work sheds light on the representations of royal power that confronted each other until 1848 to fulfil the programme of reconciliation of the "two France" wanted by Louis XVIII. They are divided between the desire to return to the Ancien Régime and the attempt to renew the royal function. Opposed to the ultraroyalists, the supporters of this original path wished to consecrate liberal constitutionalism by resorting to an unexpected expedient, the power of the King, which had to be remodelled. As with Constant and Dunoyer, it was a question of creating a fourth power with its own essence and a new mission: to watch over the institutions. This regulating or preserving power produced a passionate debate on the ideas and philosophy of law between these Moderns and the Ancients. Like Bonald, the latter preferred to encourage the conservative power of society, even if it meant going back on established dogmas (sovereignty, legitimacy) or on undesirable achievements (responsibility) that could undermine the conservative mission entrusted to the King. The search for the fourth power in fact forces a complete revision of royal power, its nature and its relationship with the other powers. Despite their failure, these reflections would have a lasting impact on French thinking about the head of state, being reborn as circumstances changed. It will then be interesting to reconsider the role of the Head of the Fifth Republic in the light of this ambivalent heritage.

In this paper the discriminatory potential of wavelet based texture features in classifying digital mammogram images is studied. The case sample analysed consists of 200 mammographic images, originating from the mini MIAS (Mammographic Image Analysis Society) database. Regions of interest (ROIs) of size 350 x 210 pixels is cropped and is subjected to texture analysis using the daubechies (db3), symlets(sym3), and biorthogonal (bio3.3, bio3.5, and bio3.7) waveletfilters. The combined feature vector is fed to a probabilistic neural network for the purpose of classification. An overall classification accuracy of 85% is attained which indicates that the proposed method can be employed as an efficient tool in computer-aided diagnosis of breast cancer to aid the radiologists.

Este escrito plantea cuatro desafíos del marketing a los que se enfrentan las empresas en la era digital teniendo en cuenta el enfoque estratégico, tecnológico y táctico; su objetivo es ayudar a que las organizaciones, en especial los departamentos de marketing, puedan tomar mejores decisiones implementando la analítica de datos. En la primera parte del artículo se presenta la definición y evolución del marketing desde la revolución industrial, con su enfoque en el producto y la producción en masa, hasta el marketing actual, que está centrado en el consumidor y las necesidades del cliente buscando una diferenciación y personalización tanto de productos como de servicios basándose en los avances tecnológicos y los diversos accesos a la información. En la segunda parte se especifica qué es Big Data, los volúmenes de datos, los tipos de datos y sus fuentes; igualmente, se puntualiza qué es la analítica de datos (data analytics). El tercer aporte esboza la descripción del marketing en nuestros días y cómo los servicios de la Web 2.0 (redes sociales, RSS, tecnologías rápidas de mensajería, vídeos, mensajería instantánea, wikis, blogs, etc.) y sus bases teóricas ayudan a la captación, fidelización y posicionamiento de marca. Por último, se presentan los cuatro desafíos para las empresas en la actual era digital: el desafío de las 6V (volumen, velocidad, variedad, veracidad, valor y visualización); los retos estratégicos, tecnológicos y operativos en las organizaciones; las tendencias del marketing y la medición del ROMI (return on marketing investment).

Expatriate return on investment (ROI) is undoubtedly an important topic, as evidenced by the considerable efforts of multinational corporations (MNCs) to find cost-reducing alternatives to long-term international assignments. Yet no studies exist examining how expatriate ROI may be calculated and what factors may increase or decrease expatriate ROI for the firm. The purpose of this article is to advance our understanding of expatriate ROI by examining the following: (1) What is expatriate ROI, and how can it be defined, and What are the antecedents of expatriate ROI in terms of the human resource (HR) activities that would increase or decrease ROI. In addressing the research questions, the article formulates hypotheses to guide future research to develop an understanding of expatriate ROI. It does so by adopting a multidisciplinary approach and considering the context of an assignment's purpose. The article covers the following: (1) a proposed definition of expatriate ROI, (2) the importance of an effective system of HR activities and its expected impact on ROI, (3) factors that should be considered in order to improve the accuracy of ROI calculations, and (4) why "one best" ROI formula may not result in a meaningful rate of return. It is intended that the findings of this article will enable scholars and practitioners to have a framework by which to advance research in this important area.
