O princípio de acordo com o qual estatuo: a culpa está sempre acima de qualquer dúvida. (Kafka, Na Colónia Penal, 2004, p. 186) Assim, como o diz Kafka, existe uma esperança infinita, simplesmente ela não é para nós. Esta frase contém realmente a esperança de Kafka. É a fonte da sua irradiante serenidade. (Benjamin, Briefe II, 1993, p. 763) Permanece algo de obscuro e profundamente opaco nos textos de Kafka, mesmo se existe um caudal de interpretações e de críticos que se debruçaram sobre a sua obra. A literatura esconjura demónios, sabemo-lo, e não apenas do indivíduo (o escritor), mas também da sua própria época, exprimindo uma inquietação que não encontra repouso. Uma angústia que nasce da própria contradição do pensamento, insinuando-se nas suas dobras, reclamando um lugar na linguagem, onde o sonho e a profecia se aninhem à espera do seu tempo, para despertarem. Seguramente, Kafka é um caso assim, em que a literatura contém uma dimensão inesperada e irradiante, pelo seu poder imagético e alegórico, que não cessa de nos surpreender e de nos interpelar.

En este trabajo se estudian las características particulares del proyecto editorial y literario que, desde 1985, viene desarrollando Ediciones Vigía. La reflexión se centra en el análisis la obra Los graduados de Kafka (2008), del autor cubano Jorge Ángel Hernández Pérez, por medio de la cuál se exploran y distuten las características artesanales y los componentes artísticos que otorgan una intensidad dramática al contenido del libro. Se discuten aspectos paralelos como la apropiación, la forma en la que los libros de artista demandan una la relación diferente de sus lectores, la distribución y elaboración de libros artesanales y el papel particular que, en este caso, tiene la intervención del editor y los diseñadores. Asimismo, se reflexiona sobre las referencias cruzadas entre lo que se denomina «kafkiano», los elementos intertextuales y el mundo en el que se desarrollan los relatos que componen la obra de Hernández Pérez.

In this piece, we will discuss what is posthuman in the writings of Kafka, and how his writing compares to that of the other writers classified under the title Posthumanism. The issue is whether Kafka's short story, A Report to an Academy (1988), is a posthumanist piece or not.

The relationship of philosophy with Kafka’s oeuvre is complex. It has been argued that Kafka’s novels and stories defy philosophic extrapolation; conversely, it has also been suggested that precisely the tendency of Kafka’s writings to elude discursive solution is itself a philosophical tendency, one that is somehow contributing to a wiser relationship of human beings with language. These matters are the focus of the proposed volume on Philosophy and Kafka.

The proposed collection brings together essays that interrogate the relationship of philosophy and Kafka, and offer new and original interpretations. The volume obviously cannot claim completeness, but it partially does justice to the multiplicity of philosophical issues and philosophical interpretations at stake.

This variety informs the composition of the volume itself. A number of essays focus on specific philosophical commentaries on Kafka’s work, from Adorno’s to Agamben’s, from Arendt’s to Benjamin’s, from Deleuze and Guattari’s to Derrida’s. A number of essays consider the possible relevance of certain philosophical outlooks for examining Kafka’s writings: here Kafka’s name goes alongside those of Socrates, Kant, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Wittgenstein, Buber, Heidegger, Blanchot, and Levinas. Finally, a number of essays consider Kafka’s writings in terms of a specific philosophical theme, such as communication and subjectivity, language and meaning, knowledge and truth, the human/animal divide, justice, and freedom. In all contributions to the volume, such themes, motifs, and interpretations arise. To varying degrees, all essays are concerned with the relationship of literature and philosophy, and thus with the philosophical significance of Kafka’s writings.

Kafka created loneliness, on one hand, to support the need of his work and, on the other hand, as an exclusion of the rule of Law. As such loneliness is a troubled and ambivalent existential phenomenon lived at times as sheltering and threatening, as a salvation and a damnation. It’s a destiny, for which Kafka feels hopelessly guilty.

This paper first outlines the key traits of some critiques of Agamben’s theory of the subject. What they have in common is an emphasis on the limitations of his conception of political agency, which is based on the one hand on an apathetic and passive figure such as the Muselmann, and on the other, on Bartleby, the Scrivener, who epitomises Agamben’s notion of potentiality. Following this short review I then focus on Agamben’s recent article “K.,” in which he compares and contrasts the two Kafkian figures of K. from The Trial and The Castle in the context of Roman law. Considering Benjamin’s distinction between a virtual and real state of exception, Josef K. and land surveyor K. adopt two different positions with regard to the form of law on which the structure of sovereignty is based. Josef K. represents bare life, which persists along the internal boundary that is constitutive of the form of law, while land surveyor K. is the subject that manages to erase this internal boundary and, thus, represents the only Agambenian figure that can effectively suspend and abolish the form of law.

Este trabajo se divide en tres grandes ejes, los cuales procurarán ofrecer una semblanza sobre Franz Kafka en tanto criminólogo menor, es decir, un criminólogo que no tiene un modelo convencional al cual adaptarse. En primer lugar, abordaremos la frágil vida de Kafka con la que se opuso a la gorda salud dominante de quienes están decididos a aferrarse al sentido dominante de la existencia. Luego, aspiraremos a generar alianzas entre la literatura y la criminología para intensificar todo lo que sirva para que la literatura fecunde a la criminología y viceversa, para crear vida entre ambas, y propagarla. Por último, exploramos si realmente merecemos ser castigados tal como el Estado lo lleva adelante en la actualidad, en particular cuando la legislación relega sistemáticamente a sectores de la ciudadanía que no están en condiciones de intervenir ni en la creación ni en la modificación de las normas jurídicas. En definitiva, ¿esos sectores deberían respetarlas?, ¿deberían tomarlas como expresión legítima de una serie de valores si las condiciones sociales primordiales para que ello sea así, están ausentes?

Ich gehe jetzt und schliesse ihn." 1 -Kafkas Parabel Vor dem Gesetz (1914) endet vor dem Gesetz. In einer performativen Geste lässt der Autor das Textende koinzidieren mit der Schliessung der Tür, die in das Gesetz führt. Der "Mann vom Lande" (291), der mit der Bitte um Einlass vor den Türhüter tritt, um nach zermürbenden Gesprächen und scheiternden Bestechungsversuchen schliesslich vor dem Gesetz den Tod zu finden, hat in Kafkas Werk unzählige Verwandte. Der Versuch von A nach B zu gelangen, von einem Äusseren in ein Inneres oder umgekehrt, dabei aber mit schwer oder nicht überwindbaren Hindernissen konfrontiert und damit -in jeder Hinsicht -ausgeschlossen zu sein, kann als strukturelle Konstante seines Schreibens gelten. Prominentestes Beispiel ist neben Vor dem Gesetz zweifellos der Schloss-Roman, der den -scheiternden -Versuch des Eintritts ins Schloss auf einer Länge von 300 Seiten entfaltet. Varianten derselben Grundkonstellation bieten, um nur einige zu nennen, die Prosaminiaturen Eine kaiserliche Botschaft, Die Brücke, Der Aufbruch, Heimkehr, Gibs auf! oder Das nächste Dorf: "Mein Grossvater pflegte zu sagen: ‚Das Leben ist erstaunlich kurz. Jetzt in Erinnerung drängt es sich mir so zusammen, dass ich zum Beispiel kaum begreife, wie ein junger Mensch sich entschliessen kann, ins nächste Dorf zu reiten, ohne zu fürchten, dass -von unglücklichen Zufällen ganz abgesehen -schon die Zeit des gewöhnlichen, glücklich ablaufenden Lebens für einen solchen Ritt bei weitem nicht hinreicht.'" 2 Dieser Anlage entsprechend erhalten Schwellenräume, Übergangszonen, Orte, an denen ein Innen und ein Aussen, ein Oben und ein Unten, ein Dies-und ein Jenseits sich berühren, eine herausragende Bedeutung. Kafka confront a Judaism as a question whose only visible aspects are mysterious and anonymous. Yet despite being continually faced with the essential absurdity about Judaism, he nevertheless do not cease trying to puzzle them out. To this end, Kafka uses his writing as a code of the transcendental, a language of the unknown. It is important to understand that this code is not an escape from reality, but the exact opposite — the instrument through which he seeks to comprehend the world in its totality without ever being able to say to what extent he may have succeeded.
Was Kafka primarily a "religious" writer? The answer seems so unclear  because so much of Kafka's world remains ultimately inaccessible to us, any such labeling will reveal more about the reader than about Kafka or his works. He himself would most likely have refused to be forced into any such either/or proposition about Judaism as a question.
Perhaps one of the keys to this question is Kafka's confession that, to him, "writing is a form of prayer."

In seinem philosophischen Roman 'Nachtzug nach Lissabon' (2004) erzählt Pascal Mercier die Geschichte des Lehrers und Altphilologen Raimund Gregorius und seiner Suche nach dem portugiesischen Arzt, Poeten und Widerstandskämpfer Amadeu de Prado. Allem Anschein nach hat Prado ein glückliches Leben geführt, doch findet Gregorius bald heraus, dass er in Wahrheit von Ängsten und Selbstzweifeln geplagt wurde – eine Folge der erdrückenden Ansprüche seines übermächtigen Vaters, eines berühmten Richters.
Diese Konstellation eines Sohnes, der vergeblich versucht, sich dem väterlichen Einfluss zu entziehen und sich dabei in die schriftstellerische Tätigkeit flüchtet, erinnert an Franz Kafka und das in seinem Werk in vielfachen Formen auftretende Motiv des Vater-Sohn-Konfliktes. Bezugnehmend auf Gérard Genettes Konzept der Hypertextualität als theoretische Grundlage demonstriere ich in diesem Aufsatz, dass der 'Nachtzug nach Lissabon' tatsächlich als Hypertext, der berühmte 'Brief an den Vater' (1919) aber als Hypotext angesehen werden kann, der in diesem Zusammenhang Kafkas gesamtes Werk repräsentiert:  Bekannte Motive tauchen in Merciers Roman in abgewandelter Gestalt wieder auf, so dass die vorliegende Lesart nicht nur neue Einblicke in einen der erfolgreichsten zeitgenössischen deutschen Romane eröffnet, sondern darüber hinaus einen Beitrag zur Kafka-Rezeption leistet.

Franz Kafka is by far the Prague author most widely read and admired internationally. However, his reception in Czechoslovakia, launched by the Liblice conference in 1963, has been conflicted. While rescuing Kafka from years of censorship and neglect, Czech critics of the 1960s “overwrote” his German and Jewish literary and cultural contexts in order to focus on his Czech cultural connections. Seeking to rediscover Kafka’s multiple backgrounds, in Franz Kafka and His Prague Contexts Marek Nekula focuses on Kafka’s Jewish social and literary networks in Prague, his German and Czech bilingualism, and his knowledge of Yiddish and Hebrew. Kafka’s bilingualism is discussed in the context of contemporary essentialist views of a writer’s “organic” language and identity. Nekula also pays particular attention to Kafka’s education, examining his studies of Czech language and literature as well as its role in his intellectual life. The book concludes by asking how Kafka “read” his urban environment, looking at the readings of Prague encoded in his fictional and non-fictional texts.

The Metamorphosis" is arguably, the most popular work of Franz Kafka and through it we are introduced to the literary genius of Kafka. The Metamorphosis is a novella about the miserable turn of events for a travelling salesman, Gregor Samsa, who finds himself transformed into a vermin after having unsettling dream. Metamorphosis is a notable work in the category of "Literature of the absurd", that delineates human condition, essentially absurd. Case in point, when Gregor found himself transformed into an insect his first thought was that he has already missed his train and had to hurry up to catch up the train which was to depart in the next fifteen minutes, otherwise he would definitely lose his job. There are multiple themes, a reader can encounter while reading but what I felt conspicuous was Gregor's ability for "Self-loathing".

Resumen: La literatura fantástica ha sido investigada desde diversos puntos de vista: lo fantástico puede ser considerado como género y también como una particular estructura textual ambivalente que cuenta con elementos temáticos y motívicos específicos. La crítica literaria que se ocupa del complejo fenómeno de lo fantástico asimismo enfoca sus aspectos históricos, por ejemplo, la cuestión concerniente a la desaparición de lo fantástico en el siglo XX o a su persistencia en formas modificadas. Después de revisar una serie de diversas aproximaciones teóricas hacia lo fantástico y su " renacimiento " en lo neo-fantástico, el presente estudio propone ejemplos temáticamente vinculados con las modificaciones de la narrativa tanto fantástica como neo-fantástica de las literaturas húngara, alemana y catalana, de su construcción intertextual y metafórica, demostrando las diferencias, pero también los aspectos comunes de fantástico en sus variadas formas estructurales e históricas. Abstract: Fantastic literature has been investigated from different points of view: the fantastic can be considered as a genre or as a specific ambivalent text structure with specific thematic and motivic elements. Literary criticism dealing with the complex phenomenon of the fantastic focuses also on its historical aspects, i.e. on the question whether the fantastic disappears in 20th century or it persists in some modified forms. After a review of some divergent theoretic approaches to the fantastic and to its " rebirth " in the neo-fantastic, the paper brings some thematically related examples of Hungarian, German and Spanish literature for the modifications of the fantastic as well as the neo-fantastic narratives, for their intertextual and metaphorical construction, demonstrating the differences but also the common features of the fantastic in its various structural and historical forms.

Kafha – so heißt ein Schriftsteller unbestimmter Ethnizität, den Paul de Man in einem seiner Feuilletons aus der Besatzungszeit von der gleichermaßen jüdischen wie modernen Tendenz  ausgenommen wissen wollte, den reinen Kern der Literatur – Originalität und Charakter -- zu verfremden.  Es ist dieser bemerkenswerte Akt einer dreifachen Ausgemeindung Franz Kafkas, dieses dreifache Abgleiten der Selektion an seiner kulturellen Identität, an seiner Schreibweise, und schließlich an seinem Namen, die den folgenden Überlegungen als Ausgangspunkt dient. Deren Ziel besteht darin, der Differenz Kafka/Kafha in den Rücken zu fallen, die Nebelschicht jener vertrauten Fremdheit, unter der sich die Kafkaforschung lange Zeit wie unter einem sternenlosen Himmel eingerichtet hatte, zu durchstoßen und einige erste Vermessungen des Landes zu versuchen, das sich nun dem Blick öffnet.

La presente tesi magistrale nasce con l’intento di fornire una visione d’insieme sulla collocazione di Kafka e delle sue opere all’interno del panorama letterario italiano, facendo riferimento allo strumento che lo ha reso fruibile nel mondo: la traduzione. Al fine di dimostrare l’importanza del traduttore e del suo intervento, e, non da ultimo, della casa editrice che pubblica un’opera straniera, si è scelto di prendere in esame tre traduzioni del più noto racconto di Kafka, La Metamorfosi (Die Verwandlung, nell’originale tedesco). La scelta delle traduzioni e dei rispettivi editori è avvenuta secondo criteri di prestigio: a tre delle case editrici italiane più rinomate, ovvero Mondadori, Feltrinelli ed Einaudi, si affiancano tre celebri traduttori germanisti: Ervino Pocar, Andreina Lavagetto ed Enrico Ganni. La tesi deve il suo titolo al curioso parallelismo che esiste tra la metamorfosi fisica del protagonista Gregor Samsa e il processo di traduzione.

Il pensiero di Agamben è letteralmente «impregnato» di Kafka. Non solo nel senso che, a partire dal suo primo libro, L’uomo senza contenuto (1970), i suoi scritti sono istoriati da citazioni e suggestioni da, e di analisi ed esegesi di, l’opera di Kafka; ma nemmeno semplicemente nel senso che queste esegesi kafkiane costituiscono, assai spesso, il nucleo teorico e il punto chiave della sua argomentazione. Se questi due aspetti dell’opera di Agamben sottolineano l’importanza e la centralità di Kafka per il suo pensiero, essi non esauriscono il significato e l’influenza che lo scrittore di Praga esercita su di lui. Anzi – e forse questo è il punto importante – Kafka anche informa l’opera di Agamben con una «maniera» filosofica, con una strategia intellettuale, fondata in un messianesimo profano e cristallizzata in gesti tattici.

Finding equivalence translations is the central and difficult task of a translator. The aim of this study is to compare how Willa and Edwin Muir, Stanley Corngold and Joyce Crick have solved the issue of equivalence while translating Franz Kafka´s The Metamorphosis from German into English exemplified on the non-equivalence words “ungeheuer”, “Ungeziefer”, “möbelerschütternd” and “Donnerwetter”. The strategies used by the translators to translate the chosen non-equivalence words will be identified, the translations will be compared to each other and the original version and the quality of the translations will be evaluated in terms of how well they convey the meaning of the original. Additionally, the difficulties translators are faced with when translating works of Franz Kafka will be addressed.

Kafka se dedicó intensamente a la lectura de autores alemanes clásicos y contemporáneos de él, y su interés se centraba precisamente en el estilo. De 1910 a 1911 abundan las anotaciones sobre sus lecturas de Goethe, con comentarios a diversos aspectos del estilo. Kafka examina el efecto del lenguaje en las lecturas públicas de autores contemporáneos, a las que acude con regularidad y las cuales comenta en su diario con criterio firme y sin titubeos.
Marthe Robert ha dicho que el alemán fue su "lengua prestada" y que "entre el judío alemán y su lengua no puede haber verdadera intimidad, sino únicamente las relaciones dudosas que unen al ladrón con lo robado", muchos casos comprueban lo contrario; además, está el hecho de que Kafka escribiera sus diarios precisamente en alemán. A él mismo le acecharon dudas sobre lo correcto y adecuado de su expresión, eso comprueba su intensa preocupación por el idioma. El lenguaje de Kafka es sumamente escueto y parece tan cotidiano que pasa casi inadvertido en la lectura. Tal vez ésta sea la causa del escaso interés que los investigadores han mostrado hasta la fecha.

This paper looks at the philosophy of power, alienation and what's more, minor writing through an examination Franz Kafka's short story, The Metamorphosis . In the story the hero awakens a titan, caterpillar-like animal, which winds up changing his life, employment and family connections. The hidden subjects are estranged worker and activity of force through brain control. The premise is Karl Marx's part on Estranged Labor and the ideas of commodification, objectification and antagonism. There is additionally an investigation of Antonio Gramsci's idea of administration of force, which is fundamentally seen as controlling the brain by implication. Capital, including private property, riches and assets, has a tendency to amass in the hands of lesser and lesser individuals, leaving nothing for the masses or the worker that creates the riches. Force movements and capital streams however are both packed in a couple hands. Destitution material as well as of brain also, is a vital by-result of industrialist improvement through  creation. The human worker turns into an item utilized for increasing the value of an item and in the process loses his compassion.

Both Plato’s dialogues, as ancient literary philosophy, and Kafka’s stories, as modern philosophical literature, incorporate divine revelation as part of a dialectical dissection of values. Plato's dialogues repeatedly invoke, then scrutinize presumably divine imperatives for action: supernatural lawgivers are dismissed in the Laws and the afterlife is emphatically a myth or story in three different tellings in the Republic, Phaedo, and Gorgias; the Oracle at Delphi and Socrates’ sign in the Apology both seem to provide a privileged connection to the divine, yet are undercut as simple imperatives by tendentious philosophical interpretation, just as “piety” is interrogated in the Euthyphro. Kafka, analogously, approaches revelation in several stories and withdraws it quite clearly. He brings us to the outwards signs of it, to the need for it, to the aesthetics of it ("In the Penal Colony," “Before the Law,” and “Jackals and Arabs”) but also to the fact the modern world cannot accept it. Contrasting these two thinkers’ reworkings of culturally accepted theological imperatives from different eras and genres provides insight into their shared dialectical method. Each includes the framework and aspects of supernatural revelation, then subverts through further plot turns (Kafka) or philosophical discussion (Plato) the presumed commandment predicated on access to the divine. Each has moments where they swing the focus, unexpectedly, to the animal. The unusual negation of the human but retention in anthropomorphism, hybridity, metaphor, or parable, demonstrates the work of thought, askew from where we expected it to be. The self-conscious poesis in each is part of an attempt to shift perspective internally, addressing life and the negative of death through already internalizing the animal, in a proliferating dialectic. Their procedure--part game, part indictment--forces us interlocutors to return through their methods of negation and reengaging the non-human world, to think the person-animal, animal-person, and thus rethink the human in the unrevealed political world.

One of Kafka's most obsessive and universally meaningful fictions, The Metamorphosis could be seen as an incentive for a search of the possible connections between the metaphor and the anxieties generated by the eternal strife between the rational and the irrational. This is a constant feature of Franz Kafka's literary thought, his modern nihilistic approach being suggested by terms such as absurd, irrational and loss of meaning. This study analyses the role of the metaphor and the way it integrates into the discourse, in an attempt to identify the elements that lie at the basis of the whole dialectical process of negation. The purpose of our approach is to show that the poeticity of Kafka's story does not originate in the metamorphosis achieved by metaphor, but in the "countermetamorphosis" achieved by the transformation of metaphor -as Walter Sokel, Stanley Corngold and other critics have demonstrated.

The stories “Nest” of Franz Kafka and “Korkuyu Beklerken” of O
uz Atay are two works independent from each other, in the literature of different nations. The basic reason for taking into consideration these works by a comparative literature analyze is that both of them are fictionalized around the theme of fear. Both “Home” and “Waiting for the fear” deals with the question of fear originating from the external word, and a paranoia based upon this fear. Another identical aspect calling attention in these stories is that both stories are handled by an ambiguous expression (symbols).
The aim of this article, it is not to demonstrate that these two works are fully identical, but to call attention to similarities and differences between them. By emphasizing upon the symbolic value of the place, it will also be examined the role of the place in the construction and the resolution of the stories

Bu incelemenin amacı, söz konusu iki eserin birebir aynı olduğunu ispat etmek değil, aralarındaki benzerlik ve farklılıklara dikkat çekmektir. Ayrıca mekânın sembolik değeri üzerinde durularak, hikâyelerin kurgusunda ve çözümünde üstlendiği rol irdelenecektir.

Zu Adam sprach er: Weil du auf deine Frau gehört und von dem Baum gegessen hast, von dem zu essen ich dir verboten hatte: So ist verflucht der Ackerboden deinetwegen. / Unter Mühsal wirst du von ihm essen / alle Tage deines Lebens. Gen 3,7 Kafka hinterfragt seine Erbschaft als Jude und Motiv der Vater/Sohn Beziehung taucht immer wieder in seinem Schreiben auf. Sieht man das von Kafka entworfene Europa als Beispiel für das Leben im Paradies, als Vaterland, und die Hauptfigur Karl Roßmann als Zeichen einer religiösen "Menschheit," so beschreibt der Roman eine neue Auslegung der biblischen Schilderung des "Sündenfalls der Menschheit," deren Hauptfigur schließlich gefangen in einer grotesken Unterwelt verbleibt. Mit einem Blick auf die Spuren von Bibelreferenzen und jüdische Figuren, wird Karl Roßmann auf seinem Abenteuer als der ewige Sohn und ewige Jude in Kafkas "Amerika" charakterisiert, ohne dass er die Grenze zum Erwachsensein überquert. Bereits ab dem Erzählbeginn im New York des neunzehnten Jahrhunderts entwirft Kafka für seine Hauptfigur Karl Roßmann eine Vielzahl von merkwürdigen Fügungen die ihn auf dem Weg zum Erwachsensein begleiten sollen. Die Hauptfigur fällt in den Gesellschaftsschichten ständig weiter nach unten, bevor er schließlich in einer grotesken Unterwelt verbleibt: eine Welt die Kafka Amerika nannte. Amerika war das Land der unendlichen Möglichkeiten und Karl hätte jeder dieser Optionen nutzen können, aber das Land das Karl vorgefunden hatte, war keineswegs ideal, denn er bleibt immer in den unteren Schichten und das Land bleibt eine fiktive Traumwelt, die er für sich nicht greifen kann, und die Karl herumschiebt. Mit dem "Fall" von und aus Europa beginnt Karls Reise weiter nach Westen und in Amerika durch die Unterschichten. Wie das Buch langsam enträtselt, trifft Karl nur wenige Entscheidungen für sich selbst. Immer wieder wird Karl weggeschickt, und immer wieder wird er wie ein Kind von einer Frau zur nächsten Frau geschoben. Der Onkel versuchte Karl am Anfang klar zu machen, dass wenn jemand ein selbständiges Leben führen möchte, er es sich selbst verdienen muss. Der Onkel erklärt, Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg HS Borderline: Grenzen und Grenzverletzungen in der Literatur Sommersemester 2011 Riggs 4 dass er sich das Luxusleben, dass er sich verdiente, "vor dreißig Jahren selbst eingerichtet" 1 hat. Aber Karl wollte dem väterlich besorgten Onkel nicht zuhören. Innerhalb von Monaten nach seiner Ankunft in Amerika hatte Karl alle Warnungen des Onkels in den Wind geschlagen. Der Bekannte des Onkels, Herr Pollunder hatte Karl eingeladen, sein Landhaus bei New York zu besuchen. Er hatte Karl mit dem Versprechen eines Treffens mit seiner Tochter Klara überzeugt, die Einladung anzunehmen. Dem Onkel gegenüber stellt er für Karl die Erfahrung der ländlichen Erholung vom hektischen Leben in der Großstadt in Aussicht. Eine Erfahrung, von welcher der Onkel dachte, dass Karl noch nicht bereit war sie zu erfahren. Weil Karl trotzdem dorthin gegangen war zeigt der Ausflug ihm sofort, wie die Frauen in Amerika angeblich alle sind. Kräftig, wollend, fordernd und doch notleidend. Es scheint, als ob ihre Funktion im Buch sei, ihm zu zeigen, dass alle Mädchen die Männer nur verführen wollen. Karl beschreibt, er "fühlte wieder ihre wachsende Kraft an seinem Leib und sie hatte sich ihm entwunden, fasste ihn mit gut ausgenutztem Obergriff, wehrte seine Beine mit Fußstellungen einer fremdartigen Kampftechnik ab und trieb ihn vor sich mit großartiger Regelmäßigkeit." 2 Und er geht mit der Situation um, wie ein machtloses Kind. Karl ist das Gegenteil von seinem Vater und Onkel, der männlichen Linie seiner Familie, nämlich nicht selbstständig und nicht verantwortungsbewusst. Er könnte die männliche Rolle mit keiner von seinen bisherigen Erfahrungen erfüllen. Diese Verantwortung könnte er nicht tragen. Auf jeden Fall bestehen Parallelen zwischen Der Verschollene und den deutlichen Vater-Sohn Beziehungen, für die Kafka in seinen anderen Werken so bekannt ist. Aber in Der Verschollene besteht die schwierige Beziehung nicht ausnahmslos und vornehmlich zwischen Karl Roßmann und seinem Vater, sondern auch zu der Vaterfigur als göttliche Instanz und dem Sohn als Mensch, der gesündigt hat und jetzt mit Konsequenzen rechnen muss. «Storie avventurose di libri necessari» è una traversata del Novecento italiano. Racconta, in undici saggi, le fortune e gli infortuni, i segreti e gli intrighi delle opere che hanno dato forma a un secolo di letteratura. Racconta le avventure dei libri, ma anche di chi li ha scritti: e per riuscire a farlo ricorre a carte d’archivio, a documenti inediti, a lettere private, a scritti dimenticati o nascosti dagli autori stessi.
Si salpa l’ancora ricostruendo le tracce lasciate nell’opera dei nostri scrittori dal più bel libro di avventure di tutti i tempi, «L’isola del tesoro». E si prosegue, proprio come negli agguati pirateschi di Stevenson, andando a scoprire perché il saluto «Ohi, Peppì!» equivalesse per Domenico Rea a un’offesa grave, e perché mai Corrado Alvaro dedicasse tanti pensieri all’eros di Mussolini. Vedremo quali nessi invisibili sussistano tra Beckett & Borges (e tra Fruttero & Lucentini che li hanno introdotti qui in Italia), e che cosa Fortini e Vittorini videro sbarcare a Bocca di Magra insieme con Marguerite Duras. Ma, come nella vita corsara, saremo spesso chiamati a combattere: e da Calvino, da Fenoglio, da Meneghello, impareremo ad apprezzare le differenze di stile che ci sono tra una pistola, un mortaio e un fucile mitragliatore per chi sta rischiando la vita nella guerra civile. O magari ci limiteremo a litigare pur amandoci attraverso il tempo e lo spazio, come Sciascia fece con Stendhal, o Parise con Darwin.
Eppure, la lotta senza tregue sarà sempre quella che uno scrittore combatte contro se stesso: e per raccontarla dovremo estrarre alla luce la virgola ebraica intessuta nella scrittura di Bassani, dovremo estorcere a Mario Soldati – proprio mentre si sta godendo un gelato – il suo passato di critico d’arte, dovremo interrogare Primo Levi e Giorgio Manganelli finché non confessino le vere ragioni della loro contesa sullo scrivere chiaro e lo scrivere oscuro.

“Before the Law” (“Vor dem Gesetz”) is one of the most if not the single most commented upon of Kafka’s texts : “Helplessness seizes one face to face with this page and a half,” notes George Steiner. Has everything not already been said, been written, been thought, about this text? Like a detective, the commentator searches for the key that will once and for all resolve the enigma, unveil the mystery that hides so secretively within its depths. A mystery which we know everything depends upon. One might skeptically wonder at the discovery of yet another interpretation of “Before the Law”: “What more can be added?” he asks himself. And he may be right.  Perhaps the gates of interpretation are henceforth sealed. We may have arrived too late.
But before this text, do we not always already come too late? Has not the doorkeeper always already shut the door? The moment one realizes there is nothing to add to this text might be the very moment one realizes that, from the start, this text, though soliciting interpretation, in fact defies interpretation. We are indeed seized by helplessness. Equally impotent before this text, the first reading equals the last reading, because strictly speaking there is no first and no last here. Before this text, as before the law, we find ourselves equally exposed, equally empty, without resources. Before this text, we find ourselves, exactly like the story’s protagonist, the countryman, the Mann vom Lande: ignorant. And from this position the text inspires us infinitely. Ignorance serves therefore as my starting point in the interpretation of "Before the Law" proposed in the following study.

Abstract: This article, starting from Konrad Lorenz’s thesis that links human being and dog inside the common destiny og domestication, dwells on the figure of the dog in Kafka. The dog appears to be an ambiguous figure, on the border between animal and humanity, characterized by shame dependence and submission, but that in its silence and in its strength og instincts, is able to pratice desertion and resistance’s from towards huaman domestication.

With the growing technology and exploding data the need to manage data and process it in real-time is also increasing. Hence all the incoming data needs to be handled in a fraction of seconds to get the value out of it. This type of data can be addressed as Big Data with respect to its Volume, Velocity and Variety. Managing such huge data is expensive and time consuming.
