The discipline whose sources of information are being studied is Financial Management. This field of Business Studies is essential in assisting managers of financial institutions, among them banks. Financial management is a major discipline that helps one understand banks and how they work. It defines them and their purpose in the economy. There are many sources of information on Financial Management. These sources provide data and statistics on the various activities taking place in the financial sector of the economy. Good sources of this information contain up-to-date information if their purpose is to relay current trends in the financial sector. They also contain accurate information on past financial activities and thus act as reliable historical sources of information on financial management.

Knowledge management and knowledge-intensive work are two of today's hot buzzwords, though both already have a history of managerial usage. While some authors claim that knowledge is the most important organizational asset in contemporary society, others retort that much of knowledge management literature and practical solutions are just perfunctory and propagandist and many, if not most, managerial polices rely on manipulation of emotions and identity creation. This chapter aims to capitalize on this fascinating and timely research area. We want to present the current business fad of knowledge-management in terms of excess and forgetful repetition of ideas. We look at knowledge management as an idea of highly suspect utility, and search for explanations for and possible counterbalances to its ubiquity.

The concept of knowledge management is not new in information systems practice and research. However, radical changes in the business environment have suggested limitations of the traditional information-processing view of knowledge management. Specifically, it is being realized that the programmed nature of heuristics underlying such systems may be inadequate for coping with the demands imposed by the new business environments. New business environments are characterized not only by rapid pace of change, but also discontinuous nature of such change. The new business environment, characterized by dynamically discontinuous change, requires a re-conceptualization of knowledge management as it has been understood in information systems practice and research. One such conceptualization is proposed in the form of a sense-making model of knowledge management for new business environments. Application of this framework will facilitate business model innovation necessary for sustainable competitive advantage in the new business environment characterized by dynamic, discontinuous and radical pace of change.

En esta obra de 1984 se sentaron las bases para la interpretación de la "empresas como sistemas de información", lo que significó un nuevo paradigma -en el sentido de Thomas Kuhn- con relación al discurso tecnológico dominante en aquella época, centrado en los "sistemas de información de la empresa".

La utilización del pensamiento sistémico y la consideración de la información como factor de producción, son dos de los ejes sobre los que se levantó está reinterpretación de la empresa, que se expresa en un doble lenguaje: gráfico (páginas pares) y textual (páginas impares).

While technology enables home-based telecommuting (HBT), it also has been blamed for its slow growth. Thus, technology both may facilitate and hinder HBT. In order to clarify the role that technology currently plays when employees HBT, this study investigated the relationship between different forms of organizational support (classified as technology-related, somewhat technology-related, and nontechnological) and employees' reactions to HBT. Dependent variables included satisfaction, perceived productivity, and number of days/weeks spent HBT. Respondents were 50 full-time employees from 20 organizations. Two technology-related support variables and manager's trust (a nontechnological support) had a broad impact on employees' reactions to HBT. So, technology plays a crucial role and, thus, could be a major factor in HBT's slow growth, but HBT is better understood within a multi-factor rather than a single-factor framework.

Successful strategic planning for information resources (SPIR) requires active participation of managers-users who are familiar with the cooperative and collaborative nature of the strategic planning processes. Hence, there is a need to provide them with reusable, flexible, agile and adaptable training material in order to enable them instil their knowledge and expertise in the SPIR process and automation activities.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate critical success factors (CSFs) for the implementation of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system from a user perspective. Users play a vital role when implementing an ERP system, but their perspective has been neglected in the literature. A better understanding of their perspective promises to contribute to the design of more effective ERP systems, its implementation, and management. In order to identify the user perspective, a survey was conducted within three Pakistani companies that recently have implemented a new ERP system. The questionnaire was developed based on thirteen CSFs deduced from literature. Based on each CSF's level of importance, they are ranked in order of importance and divided into three groups: most important, important and not important. Findings reveal that users believe that management should prioritize the following four CSFs when implementing an ERP system: education and training, strategic decisionmaking, communication, and business process alignment.

A virtual community (VC) of committed members is of great strategic value to online firms and vendors owing to its ability to attract and retain members. However, online firms and vendors find it difficult to instill commitment among their VC members. Therefore, this study examines the mechanism of customer commitment formation in a relationship-cum-interest based VC. By understanding the mechanism of customer commitment formation in a VC, online firms and vendors can enhance customer commitment to the VC. Using the theory of reasoned action, this study finds that encouraging participation among customers is the springboard for customer commitment to the VC. However, customer participation should be balanced with a proper mix of cognition and affect enhancing aspects, particularly those aspects that arouse customers' interests and encourages relationship building among them. Online firms and vendors would thus benefit by encouraging personal relationships among their VC participants.

In this chapter, we present the digital culture project that has been developed in Brazil and supported by the Brazilian government, which determined that the process of digital inclusion should be seen fundamentally from a cultural perspective. The chapter started with the principle of sharing of information as the basis of the information society, thus provoking a reanalysis of the productive scenario in which users actively participated in the productive scenario instead of acting as mere consumers of the technically innovative process being carried out by the companies. We discussed the concept of cultural property in the context of this new society and presented the Brazilian vision of this scenario.

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this work was to do an evaluative study of the Freedom of Information Act and its implications of records, privacy and Information Security Management in Nigeria. The research study examined relatively recent publications in books, journals articles and unpublished thesis relevant to the study. They were collected, organised and analysed critically. To this end, the findings were that the FOIA has the potency to engender effective freedom of information and accessibility to records while guaranteeing the privacy of personnel and third party ensuring safer information security management where transparency thrives. But Freedom of Information Act 2011 can only function effectively when some anti-public laws are either expunged or amended.  The study concluded that the success of implementation of the FOIA is the co-responsibility of both the government (“supply side”) and the governed (“demand-side”) and noted that FOIA is a catalyst for freedom with responsibility and good governance, fairness, accuracy, balance and objectivity. The researcher suggested that more campaigns need to be done to increase the level of awareness of the public about Freedom of Information Act. The media as a core partner should increase public awareness and understanding of the Act. It recommended that the Federal government and its agencies should take steps to ensure that necessary regulations or procedure are put in place for the effective implementation of the Act.

Despite the recent growth in the number of women in the American labor force, women are still under-represented in the IT workforce. Key among the factors that account for this underrepresentation is balancing work-family issues. This article presents a framework for analyzing work-family balance from a field study of women employed in the American IT workforce. The findings are examined through the lens of the Individual Differences Theory of Gender and IT to show the range of ways in which work-family considerations influence women's IT career decisions. The framework is used to support the theoretical argument that women exhibit a range of decisions regarding career and parenthood: the non-parent, the working parent, the back-on-track parent, and the off-the-track parent. These findings illustrate an identifiable theme that crosses geographical regions and timeframes; societal messages are complex and difficult to digest and are processed in different ways by different women, yet they contribute to the decisions women make about their professional and personal lives.

ABSTRACT Uncertainty and complexity are inherent characteristics of a new information system. They occur at the beginning of the project and with different intensities during development depending on the system's type. Based on a review of the literature, it is argued that uncertainty and complexity can be used to derive the most suitable development strategy for a given project. A framework integrating system types and their corresponding development strategies is offered and justifications supplied. General guidelines concerning the application of the framework are provided for the practicing managers.

This paper discusses the function of the information resources inventory as a tool within the process of information audits and examines the proposals for inventories that appear in the professional literature, focusing on the level of detail provided in each case. Finally, the author proposes a relational model which to address the different types of objects that may be represented.

We propose an innovative approach and its implementation as an expert system to achieve the semiautomatic detection of candidate attributes for scrambling sensitive data. Our approach is based on semantic rules that determine which concepts have to be scrambled, and on a linguistic component that retrieves the attributes that semantically correspond to these concepts. Because attributes cannot be considered independently from each other, we also address the challenging problem of the propagation of the scrambling process through the entire database. One main contribution of our approach is to provide a semi-automatic process for the detection of sensitive data. The underlying knowledge is made available through production rules, operationalizing the detection of the sensitive data. A validation of our approach using four different databases is provided.

This study investigated the influence of Petroleum Engineers’ personal characteristics as determinant factor on their utilisation of information resources in Libraries of petroleum industries in south- south, Nigeria. The characteristics are working experience and field of specialisation. The survey was guided by three research questions and two hypotheses which were formulated for testing. The population of the study consisted of 1572 engineers in Exxon Mobil, Eket, Akwa Ibom and Agip Oil Company in Port Harcourt. The sample consisted of 499 respondents drawn from petroleum, mechanical, computer, electrical and other engineering fields in Exxon Mobil, Eket and Agip Oil Company in Port Harcourt. A 40-item researcher developed instrument called: Personal characteristic of Engineers and Information Resources Utilisation Questionnaire (PCEIRUQ) was used for data collection. The instrument has a reliability index of 0.95 using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. Data generated were analysed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The results showed that information resources available in decreasing rank order are books, datasheets, project drawing, manuals, reports, CDs, information from colleagues, seminar/ workshops/ conference, internet and maps. Findings indicate that engineers’ experience and fields of specialisation have significant (P be adequately sensitised on the significance of information in enhancing their productivity in their respective fields. It was also recommended that the engineers should be encouraged to make effective use of available information resources through regular user education programmes and exhibition and display of available information resources.

В статье рассматривается влияние интернет сети на эффективность работы турагенств как возможность размещения рекламы, поиска новых партнеров, презентации своей деятельности, и т.д., и как следствие увеличение турпотоков.  При помощи компьютерных программ (Microsoft Office Excel, SPSS) проведены анализ и оценка эффективности рекламной деятельности в сети на примере деятельности турагенства “Татев Т.Т.Т.” В результате исследования предложены рекомендации по улучшению и повышению эффективности работы турагенства.

 The impact of the Internet, productive work of tour agencies and possibilities of searching for new partnerships are explored in the article. With the help of computer programs (Microsoft Office Excel and SPSS) the effectiveness of internet advertising activities was analyzed and evaluated on the example of “Tatev T.T.T.” travel agency. During the study, practical suggestions were made in order to increase labor productivity of tour agencies.

In this paper, we discuss the real options theory and its applications in IT investment evaluation. We provide a framework within which the appropriateness of using real options theory in strategic IT investment evaluation is systematically justified. In our framework, IT investment opportunities are classified into four categories based on two criteria: the technology switching costs and the nature of competition. We point out that different real options models should be adopted for each category. The electronic brokerage's investment decision in wireless technology is discussed as a real world case within the framework. Our study also provides some insights about the relationship between technology standardization and IT investment decisions.

The study examined the economics of demanding for information resource, with emphasis on the critical factors affecting the demand for information resources among university library users in 5 out of the 7 federal universities that were fully operational in NorthWest Nigeria during the study period. The study adopted descriptive survey and used quantitative methodology to collect data, via the use of questionnaire from 376 registered users that were randomly sampled for the study. Based on a response rate of 75.2%, the study revealed that both library users and their libraries are responsible for the observed critical factors affecting demand for information resources, among the university libraries in NorthWest Nigeria. While users were not following the appropriate technique for demanding information resources, it was discovered that university libraries were not good enough in providing current and up to date information resources to their users. The study shows that users of university libraries in NorthWest Nigeria are fairly satisfied with information resources they demand because of the poor articulation of their information needs and their inability of using catalogue to demand for information resources. Other issues critically affecting demand for information resources include users' inability of using boolean search techniques, outdated or non-current resources as well as inadequate computer and other information technology hardware for accessing information resources. ERP systems have been identified as platform technologies that permit the adoption of subsequent technologies that leverage the information integration created by an ERP system. Although significant research attention has been directed at ERP system adoption, very little attention has been paid to understanding ERP-enabled adoption, that is, adoptions that occur and are facilitated after the initial ERP system. This paper seeks to fill this void. Synthesizing existing works, the authors construct a model that examines the link between initial ERP system and ERP-enabled adoption. The results indicate that initial ERP system factors (Extent of ERP Implementation and Current System Performance) act as antecedences to organizational ease of use and relative advantage of subsequent technologies. Moreover, the authors' findings implicate that organizational ease of use and relative advantage of subsequent technologies have a positive impact on ERP-enabled adoption. These results have important implications for ERP system evaluation and justification. First, the findings highlight the importance of recognizing the potential additions and inherent benefits created by an initial ERP system. Second, the findings also underscore the importance of considering ERP-enabled adoption of subsequent technologies.

This study aimed to identify and analyze factors affecting customers' adoption of E-Banking services in Jordan. The study sample was 450 E-banking services users, who have been chosen from nine main banks selected by the researchers. The study concluded that there was a significant effect of (E-Service Quality, E-Perceived Usefulness, E-Security, E-Reliability) on the adoption of E-Banking services. E-Service quality was the most effecting factor on customers' adoption of E-Banking services, while E-Security was the least influential factor. The study proved the existence of the effect of the following E-Service quality dimensions: E-Ease of Use, E-Privacy, E-Efficiency, E-Design and E-Cost Effectiveness and denied the existence of the effect of E-Responsiveness on customers' adoption of E-banking services.

Employee performance evaluation is an essential management practice for any organization, because the progress of employees is of real importance in enhancing the efficiency and development of every organization. The authors propose a model that ties employee motivation to organizational performance. The research objectives were designed to identify strategies that take into account all the factors contributing to quality and superior productivity of labor, in other words, to identify motivation strategies conducive to efficient management. The assessment was conducted through quantitative analysis using a questionnaire. The questionnaire, through the statements contained therein, assessed how public and private organizational performance reflect employee motivation characteristics.

Knowledge sharing in public services has not yet received much attention in the research literature. This paper investigates knowledge sharing in one public service context and identifies factors that influence the readiness of an organization to share knowledge effectively. Using participant observation, document analysis, interviews (n=30) and a survey (n=132), data are presented to highlight antecedents to effective knowledge sharing in healthcare service delivery. Through factor analysis and regression modeling, we have isolated six factors that are significant predictors of effective knowledge sharing. Our research is broadly consistent with previous findings that an innovative culture, a capacity to learn from failure and good information quality are strong predictors of successful knowledge sharing. However, we also identify factors associated with change management, and a predisposition to confront performance indicators, that significantly influence the knowledge sharing process. While we argue that our six-factor model may be equally relevant to private sector firms, we suggest that the peculiar nature of the public sector environment poses unique challenges for healthcare managers who seek to develop a knowledge sharing capability.

Para gestionar la complejidad se necesitan dos miradas: 1. la visión estructural (del todo y de las partes que lo componen) y 2. la visión evolutiva (del caos como fuente de orden).

En la primera parte del libro se resumen los fundamentos de ambas miradas, el pensamiento sistémico (Bertalanffy) y las ciencias naturales (Prigogine), respectivamente.

En la segunda parte del libro, las categorías conceptuales que proporcionan ambos saberes se aplican, en concreto, a la comprensión de los procesos de cambio en las organizaciones humanas.

sharing and re-use using collaborative tools, three propositions are generated about the likely behavior of the team in using the collaborative tool and re-using the knowledge put in the knowledge repository. A multi-method longitudinal research study of this design team was conducted over their ten-month design effort. Both qualitative and quantitative data were obtained. Results indicated that the propositions from the literature were insufficient to explain the behavior of the team. We found that ambiguity of the task does not determine use of a collaborative tool; that tool use does not increase with experience; and that knowledge that is perceived as transient (whether it really is transient or not) is unlikely to be referenced properly for later search and retrieval. Implications for practice and theory are discussed.

This study aims to explore factors that have impact on purchase decision on a social commerce, viz., social media Instagram. Thus, several dimensions namely eWOM referral, celebrity endorsement, information quality, brand satisfaction, brand trust and brand attachment are identified and examined. This research uses SEM method and LISREL 8.80 application. Data was collected using questionnaires with Likert scale. The result from 350 respondents shows that a significant positive correlation exists between eWOM referral and purchase intention, information quality and brand satisfaction, information quality and brand trust, brand satisfaction and brand attachment, brand satisfaction and purchase intention, brand trust and purchase intention, brand attachment and purchase decision, and also between purchase intention and purchase decision.

In today's intensely competitive marketplace, companies can benefit strategically and tactically from enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, if implemented correctly. However, with failure rates estimated to be as high as 50% of all ERP implementations, companies can be negatively impacted by a poorly performing ERP system. The research on ERP has focused on events leading to the selection, evaluation, and implementation of the ERP system. The intent of this research is to identify new or lightly researched theories regarding the difficulties of ERP implementations that can help practitioners successfully manage ERP implementations by performing a post-ERP implementation examination of eight corporations. We examine operations management (OM) literature rather than information systems (IS) literature in order to provide IS readers with an alternative yet valuable analysis. Further, we purposely avoid well-established findings by performing a large literature review. This article is based on a qualitative research design using case-study methodology. The propositions derived from the case studies form solid insight into the considerations that may influence the success of an ERP system.

This paper describes the Open Tourism Initiative (OTI) as a framework to support tourism activities, following the Tourism Virtual Enterprise (TVE) organizational model and pragmatics based collaboration decisions. To assure the better alignment among tourism services providers and client's expectations, the framework (and its architecture) must support reliable interoperability and dynamic networking reconfiguration as well as the (co-) creation of the tourist's activity regardless of information systems and using realtime collaboration mechanisms. When a member of the TVE scheduled to provide a given service is somehow conditioned, unable to participate, or has to be disentailed from the network, or due to events not necessarily measurable or deterministic, the it is necessary to reconfigure the VE in almost real time. The need to reconfigure could result from changes in controlled (measured) parameters as well as from uncontrolled (contextual and pragmatic) ones. OTI enhances dynamic tourism packages management under the requirements of reconfigurable environments and human direct participation. This article proposes a logical model for TVE organizations as well as an UML formalization for its supporting architecture.

Understanding and assessing the payoff from investments in IT is an important exercise for managers. A number of researchers have examined the elusive notion of firm-level information system effectiveness and the results are mixed. This study contributes to this debate by examining the association between market value of equity and IT-related investments for a sample of firms in the financial services sector. It should be noted that companies in the financial services industry are intensive users of IT and often rely upon IT as a source of competitive advantage. We find a positive association between investments in IT and market value. Overall, our findings support the notion that investors perceive investments in IT as value-relevant.

The use of online information resources (OIR) has become a major tool in the hands of post graduate students for exploitation of knowledge across the globe in all disciplines. Studies revealed that (OIR) use have influenced research productivity of students. Literature however reveals that most post graduate students in Nigeria have not been exposed to these resources and so are limited to carrying out the objective behind the creation of these resources. This study however investigated the use of online information resources among postgraduate students of Babcock University and its influence on their research productivity.
The study used a survey research method. Population was made up of 480 postgraduate students at Babcock University and the sample size was 214. Sampling was a random selection of forty-five percent (45%) of total size, recommended from the ‘Table of Recommended Sample Sizes’, adapted from: Krejc ie, R. V., & Morgan, D.W. (1970). A self designed questionnaire titled Online Information Resources Use and Postgraduate Students’ Research Productivity, tagged (OIRUPSRP) was used for data collection.
Findings showed that online information resources (OIR) are available and of utmost importance to postgraduate students at Babcock university. Respondents with one to two publications in the last three years affirmed using online information resources as a tool for their productivity. Use of online information resources was found to have a significant relationship on the research productivity of postgraduate students (r = .449, p < 0.05).
In conclusion, the quality of every academic institution’s research productivity lies in the quality of students’ research involvement and knowledge acquired as influenced by the use of online information resources. Postgraduate students at Babcock University have attested to this by their response in the course of this work. The study recommends that adequate internet facilities and stable power supply be provided in order to improve students’ use of online information resources which will translate into higher research.
