Penelitian empiris ini dimaksudkan untuk mengetahui bagaimana harapan konsumen, mengetahui kinerja kualitas pelayanan yang dirasakan konsumen, mengetahui tingkat kepuasan konsumen terhadap kualitas pelayanan, mengetahui pengaruh kinerja kualitas pelayanan terhadap kepuasaan konsumen, mengetahui dimensi kualitas pelayanan manakah yang perlu diperbaiki untuk meningkatkan kepuasan konsumen dan untuk mengetahui standar kualitas pelayanan yang diharapkan konsumen rawat inap kelas VIP RSUD Kardinah Kota Tegal Jawa Tengah.      This study compares two on-line texts reporting the same news. This study is meant to find out a possibility of the both news alignments seen from the angle of critical discourse analysis of Sara Mills which looks at the perspective of feminism, and the power relations implied in the texts reflected by the words, phrases, and clauses used. This as well studies the accuracy of the equivalence of transferred messages to their source text, and what social and cultural aspects behind the discourse strategy are applied by the authors in the news.   The findings revealed that both the original and the translated news tend to represent woman positively. Seen from the micro features used, woman was positioned proportionally in the texts. «The tale of Niobe had a wide-ranging and long-lasting literary afterlife, but Ovid’s version in the sixth book of the ‘Metamorphoses’ (6, 146‑312) is perhaps the most celebrated example in Latin literature of an attempt to describe Niobe’s physiognomy: after a happy marriage, Niobe becomes a ‘mater dolorosa’ and a symbol of pain. My contribution focuses on a short and suggestive epigram from the Ausonian collection of ‘Epigrammata’ (‘Epigr.’, 57 Green) in which Niobe is the protagonist. I demonstrate how this case-study of Ovidian literary influence is associated with the poetic effects derived from the rhetorical practice of the προγυμνάσματα. In this epigram Niobe’s suffering illustrates perfectly how Ausonius changes a long literary tradition that was familiar to him, so as to display his literary skill, his linguistic dexterity and his ability to give the heroine a new meaning that is connected to the literary repertory of his erudite readers.» || "L’histoire de Niobé a connu une postérité vaste et durable, mais sa version ovidienne, dans le sixième livre des « Métamorphoses » (6, 146‑312), est peut-être l’exemple le plus célèbre de tentative d’un auteur latin pour décrire la physionomie de l’héroïne qui, après un marriage très heureux, devient ‘mater dolorosa’ et donc un symbole de douleur. This paper examines some epigrams of Ausonius’ Bissula, underscoring the literary dimension in which the biographical relationship between the poet-patronus and his young slave-alumna is rewritten in these verses. The girl is seen as an erotic subject and elegiac domina, whose ambiguous identity results in an ideal combination of perfect Latin upbringing and natural German beauty (see in particular the indigenous feature of the blonde hair), which makes her superior to the Latiae pupae and, implicitly, to the puellae of the elegiac tradition (Biss. 3-4). The theme of Bissula’s beauty, which needs no artifice, becomes central in Biss. 5-6, in connection with the subject of the portrait, in which Ausonius proposes again, in a new and original way, some conventions of ecfrastic poetry. The highlighted models make it possible to establish what the general tone of the collection must have been and to reconsider hypotheses about its incompleteness.

In Marziale xi 96, conservato solo da una famiglia di codici, il poeta rimprovera uno schiavo germanico che impedisce a un fanciullo romano di dissetarsi a una fonte dell'aqua Marcia. Alcuni studiosi considerano il componimento un'ekphrasis di un fregio o un gruppo scultoreo. Finora la sua autenticità non è stata messa in discussione.Tuttavia l'estraneità del componimento alla compatta sezione conclusiva del libro, caratterizzata da tematica sessuale, linguaggio osceno e da numerosi collegamenti intratestuali, la struttura dell'epigramma, il suo tono nazionalistico e razzista e alcuni tratti stilistici e lessicali depongono a sfavore della paternità marzialiana.

In Martial xi 96, preserved only by one manuscript family, the poet blames a German slave who prevents a Roman boy from quenching his thirst at a fountain with water supplied from the aqua Marcia. Some scholars consider the epigram an ekphrasis of a sculptured frieze or of a sculpted group. So far the poem's authenticity has been not brought into question. However, the lack of connection between the epigram and the compact and homogeneous final section of the book, characterized by sexual themes, obscene language and many intratextual links, its structure, its nationalistic and racist content and some stilistic as well as verbal features do not support Martial's authorship.

Dopo un rapido sguardo all’epistola dedicatoria in prosa all’amico Assio Paolo e ai carmi introduttivi del libellus per Bissula, la schiavetta sveva di Ausonio (Biss. praef., 1 e 2), il presente contributo prende in esame i primi due componimenti a lei dedicati (Biss. 3 e 4). Dall’analisi emerge che questi rinviano insistentemente al lessico e a motivi della poesia ‘minore’ epigrammatica, elegiaca, comica, rivelandosi perfettamente rispondenti alle linee programmatiche delle prefazioni e agli ipotesti in esse presenti. In particolare la presenza di certi temi di ascendenza elegiaca – la puella vista come domina ed elogiata per la sua naturale bellezza – colloca la Bissula nel solco della poesia amorosa improntata alla sublimazione dell’eros e all’idealizzazione dell’amata, che è cantata con accenti anche lascivi ma non osceni. D’altra parte la sequela di epiteti affettuosi con cui si apre Biss. 4 e che ha un suo modello privilegiato nel lessico erotico plautino, accosta l’io-poetico all’innamorato della commedia, giustificando l’autoironica evocazione del personaggio del canus amator che si è ravvisata in Biss. 1. È dunque evidente la trasfigurazione letteraria del rapporto tra Bissula e il suo patrono, qualunque fosse la realtà biografica di tale rapporto. In questa prospettiva si dovrà interpretare anche l’elogio della duplice identità, latina e germanica, dell’alumna; esso, infatti, più che a un fine di propaganda politica volta a favorire l’integrazione delle popolazioni barbare nell’impero romano, sembra rispondere a un’esigenza culturale e letteraria: l’ambigua puella da un lato rivela l’orgoglio del provinciale colto, pienamente romanizzato e integrato che diviene maestro di lingua e costumi latini, dall’altro incarna, con i suoi i tratti etnici originari e l’educazione perfetta, l’ideale connubio di bellezza naturale e di raffinatezza della puella elegiaca.

More than 100 empirical studies document that subtitling a video improves comprehension of the video. Standard subtitling practices have long been governed by the constraints of the field. In spite of the increased awareness of the need to develop subtitling practices along with new technologies, subtitling practitioners continue to have their hands tied by the constraints of the field and the norms of the profession. In contrast with the restrictions imposed by subtitling norms, recent research has returned to the possibility of creativity in subtitling. Further recent research in audiovisual translation (AVT) has begun to turn towards a multidisciplinary approach. A descriptive qualitative design is deemed to be an appropriate mode of inquiry for this study. Epigr. 37 Sh. B., a ferocious attack against Domitian, guilty of having put discredit on his gens, is the only poem in the whole corpus of Martial preserved exclusively by indirect tradition, within Juvenal's scholia vetustiora. It is printed at the end of the Liber Spectaculorum since Scriverius' first edition (1619), in spite of the patent incoherence of this ecdotic behaviour. In fact, because of his cruelty to Domitian, the distich's composition date is unanimously placed after his killing (96 C.E.). Martial's autorship is generally accepted. However a careful evaluation of the epigrammatist' postdomitianic poetic strategies and a close linguistic, metric and stilistic analysis of the distich show that the ascription is highly unlikely. It could descend from a mere scholiast's error, but the hypothesis of a pseudo-epigraphic work should not be disregarded: the text in fact could have been written by an evil rival aimed at discrediting the poet among the imperial court.

B., una feroce aggressione a Domiziano, reo di aver disonorato la sua gens, è l'unico componimento dell'intero corpus di Marziale a essere tramandato solo per via indiretta, all'interno degli scholia vetustiora a Giovenale. È stampato in coda al Liber Spectaculorum fin dalla prima edizione di Scriverius (1619), nonostante l'evidente incoerenza di questa scelta ecdotica. Infatti, per via della sua ferocia contro Domiziano, il distico è unanimemente collocato dopo la sua uccisione (96 d.C.). La paternità marzialiana non è per lo più stata messa in discussione. Tuttavia un'attenta valutazione delle strategie poetiche postdomizianee dell'epigrammista e un'analisi ravvicinata del distico sotto il punto di vista linguistico, metrico e stilistico dimostrano che l'attribuzione è altamente improbabile. Essa potrebbe discendere da un errore dello scoliasta, ma non va trascurata neanche l'ipotesi di un prodotto pseudoepigrafo: il testo potrebbe infatti essere stato composto da un malevolo intenzionato a screditare il poeta presso la corte imperiale.

The article offers some new insights into the signifi cance and function of Byzantine panagiaria, small-scale containers for the bread sanctifi ed in honor of the Virgin in a rite known as the Elevation of the Panagia. This rite, it is argued, was not limited to monastic and courtly contexts or to routine liturgical observance, as is often assumed, but could be performed by the laity as well. Proposing that the use of panagiaria as personal devotional instruments was fairly common in Byzantium, the article explores the interplay between the design, materiality, epigraphic enhancement, and ritual and devotional use of these objects.

Cet article analyse les Fables de 1668 à la lumière d’une double tradition, l’art de la pointe et les traités de civilité, dont les Fables font affleurer les potentialités politiques. La rhétorique du trait d’esprit, dans le premier recueil de La Fontaine, serait une forme de pédagogie mondaine, où le poète se donnerait en exemple au prince pour l’inciter à apprendre l’art de la parole civile. En ce sens le prince n’est plus seulement le destinataire des poèmes, invité à devenir un parfait honnête homme, primus inter pares, mais aussi le modèle et l’image de la souveraineté et de l’autonomie de la personne privée.

Abstract

This article presents some 40 hitherto unpublished inscriptions from the Bolu museum, most of which stem from Klaudiupolis, though in some cases the provenance remains unclear. Two inscriptions were found on the coast near Akçakoca (Dia) on the boundary between Prusias ad Hypium and Herakleia Pontike. One of these inscriptions (no. 5) attests that the cult of Zeus Bennios known from Phrygia and the middle Sangarios valley had spread as far as that region. Two dedications stem from Phrygia and were given as a permanent loan by the museum of Afyon. Of historical importance is the honorary inscription no. 3, as it attests that the consul Arabianus was a native of Klaudiupolis. The honorary inscription no. 2 acquaints us with the notable Titus Domitius Pius Iulianus, undoubtedly a descendant of the Domitius Pontikus Iulianus who in the Hadrianic period founded the now unearthed stadion. The funerary inscriptions are frequently engraved on moulded column drums, which were widely used in the East Bithynian and West Paphlagonian region. Of these, four feature epigrams praising the virtues of the deceased. From a Christian context are a baptismal font bearing the name of the donor, a barrier plate with a quotation from Matthew's Gospel and a cross-shaped funerary stele of the presbyter Polychronios. Also included in the catalogue are a dozen further stones bearing no inscriptions.

Bolu Müzesi’nden Yeni Yazıtlar

1981 yılında hizmete açılan Bolu Müzesi’nde yaklaşık 65 civarında yazılı taş eser korunmaktadır. Bu eserlerin bir kısmı F. Becker-Bertau tarafından 1986 yılında yayımlanan Klaudiupolis kent korpusuna alınmıştır, bkz. Die Inschriften von Klaudiupolis(Inschriften griechischer Städte aus Kleinasien 31, Bonn 1986). Bolu şehir merkezinde yapılan bir kazı sırasında bulunan ve sonradan müzeye getirilen iki gladyatör yazıtı ise M. Ündemiş ve D. French tarafından yayımlanmıştır, bkz. Epigraphica Anatolica 13, 1989, s. 91-98 (burada dn. 2). Kentin 12 phylesinin İ. S. 198 yılında İmparator Septimius Severus’a diktikleri heykel kaidesini de Chr. Marek bilim dünyasına tanıtmıştır, bkz. Museum Helveticum 59, 2002, s. 31-50 (burada dn. 3). Birçoğu müzede korunan ve henüz yayımlanmamış 35 eser ise 2005, 2007 ve 2008 yıllarında Bolu Müzesi’nde yaptığımız çalışmalar sırasında tarafımızdan tespit edilmiş olup bu makalede tanıtılmaktadır. Bu eserlerin beş tanesi 2008 yılında başka eserlerle birlikte civar köylerden getirilmiş olup bugün müzenin izni ile Bolu Valiliği’nin bahçesinde durmaktadır (burada no. 12, 18, 19, 25, 26). Makalede Bolu bölgesinden daha önce yayımlanmış bazı eserler için (no. 18, 39 ve 40) ekleme ve düzeltme de önerilmektedir.
Burada tanıtılan bazı eserlerin buluntu yerleri bilinmemektir. Bazıları merkezde bulunmuştur ve doğrudan Klaudiupolis kentine aittir. Müze envanterinde kırsal kesimden gelen bazı yazıtlar da bulunmaktadır. İki yazıt Karadeniz kıyısında Akçakoca yakınlarında bulunmuştur (no. 5 ve 17) ve Prusias ad Hypium kentine aittir. İki adak steli (no. 10 ve 15) Afyon Müzesi’ne ait olup Bolu Müzesi’nin kuruluş aşamasında 1979 yılında bu müzeye nakledilmiştir. Makalede tanıtılan eserlerin beş tanesi onur yazıtı (no. 1-5), onbir tanesi adak yazıtı (no. 6-16), dört tanesi mezar epigramı (no. 17-20), ondört tanesi mezar yazıtı (no. 21-34) ve üç tanesi de geç dönem (Bizans) yazıtlarıdır (no. 35 ve 37-38). Üzerinde yazıt bulunmayan ama khristogram olan küçük bir sunak da tanıtılmaktadır (no. 36). Son olarak, üzerinde büyük bir olasılıkla hacim ölçüsü veren yunanca 63 rakamı kazınmış olan büyük bir pişmiş toprak pithos tanıtılmaktadır (no. 41). Onur yazıtlarından bir tanesi (no. 1) İmparator Hadrianus onuruna dikilen bir heykelin kaidesidir. Klaudiupolis kentinin, sevgilisi Antinoos’un buralı olması nedeniyle imparator için ne kadar önem arzettiği ve imparatorun bu kente çok cömert davrandığı bilinmektedir. İki numaralı onur yazıtı Klaudiupolisli Domitius Ponticus Iulianus isimli genç bir şahsın kentin bule ve demosu tarafından ölümünden sonra onurlandırılmasıdır. 2008 yılında Bolu’nun ana caddelerinden birindeki bir kazı sırasında tesadüfen antik kentin stadyumunun bir kısmı ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Stadiuma ait yapı yazıtı günümüze kalmış olup yapı İmparator Hadrianus ve Klaudiupolis kentinin demosuna adanmıştır. Stadiumu yaptıran şahsın adı da yazıtta geçmekte olup ismi Domitius Ponticus Iulianus’tur. Bu şahıs, adının da açıkca gösterdiği gibi, buradaki iki numaralı yazıtta adı geçen şahıslarla akraba olmalıdır. Stadium ve yazıtı bu makalenin yazarları tarafından yayıma hazırlanmaktadır. Çeşitli valilik görevlerinde bulunmuş senatör Ulpius Arabianus’un amcası Aristaeus için diktiği üç numaralı yazıt hakkında bkz. M. Adak, Gephyra 4, 2007, s. 155-163. Prusias ad Hypium buluntusu olan beş numaralı yazıtta bir kült cemaati (bennos) bir karı kocayı onurlandırmaktadır. Yazıtta adı geçen cemaat bugüne kadar bilinmemekteydi. Adak yazıtlarına genel olarak bakıldığında ise, iki Phrygia adağı (Zeus Alsenos ya da Petarenos ve Hosios) hariç, Bithynia’da tapınım görmüş tanrılar karşımıza çıkmaktadır: Zeus, Zeus Soter, Meter Theon, Apollon, Artemis. Bunların dışında İmparator Titus için de bir adak sunağı vardır (no. 6). Zeus’a yapılan sunulardan birisi Zeus büstü biçimindedir. Bu ikonografideki büstler Bithynia-Phrygia sınır bölgelerinde (Bilecik ve civarı) çok sayıda ele geçmiştir ve olasılıkla Bithynia’da da tapınım gören Zeus Bronton’u betimlemektedirler. Buradaki büstün de bu tanrıyı betimliyor olması olasılık dâhilindedir.
Mezar yazıtlarının büyük çoğunluğu profilli sütun biçimli büyük sunaklar üzerinde bulunmaktadır. Bu mezar tipi Doğu Bithynia ve Batı Paphlagonia bölgelerinin tipik bir özelliği olup birçok benzeri bulunmaktadır. Yükseklikleri iki metreyi aşan bu mezar taşları, uzaktan da görülebilmeleri için olasılıkla ölünün gömülü olduğu mezarın üzerinde bulunan Tümülüslerin tepesinde durmaktaydı. Mezar yazıtları dört tanesi hariç, vezinli değildir ve yazıtlardaki ifadeler bölgeye özgüdür. Dört mezar yazıtı ise epigramları da içermektedir (no. 17- 20). Bunlardan iki epigram distikhonlar şeklinde kaleme alınmıştır (no. 17 ve 20). 18 numaralı şiir tamamen Heksametronlardan oluşmaktadır. 19 numaradaki şiir ise İambik Trimetron ölçüsünde yazılmıştır. Mezar taşları üzerine zaman zaman işlenen bağcı bıçağı (no. 20, 25, 26) gibi motifler yörenin çiftçi karakterini vurgulamaktadır. Mezar stellerinden bir tanesi (no. 33) Phryg stilinde yapılmıştır ve Bithynia bölgesinin birçok yöresinde Phryg kültürünün varlığı bilinmektedir. Hıristiyanlık dönemine ait yazıtlar ise, üzerinde Khristogram içeren yazıtsız ufak bir altlık (no. 36) dışında, üzerinde İncil’e ait bir cümle bulunan levha parçaları (no. 35) olasılıkla bir kiliseye aittir. Yonca yaprağı biçimindeki vaftiz teknesi (no. 37) ve haç biçimindeki (no. 38) levha ise mezar taşları olup üzerlerinde yazıtları vardır. Yazıtlardan birisinde (no. 38) bir presbyter’in (din görevlisi) adı geçmektedir. Makaledeki yazıtlar özellikleri ve içerikleri itibariyle genel olarak Klaudiupolis ve çevresinin
özelliklerine uymaktadır ve bu bölge hakkındaki bilgilerimizi zenginleştirmektedir. Yazıtlarda yerli (Phryg isimleri dâhil), Yunan ve epeyce de Latin şahıs isimlerine rastlanmaktadır ve bölgedeki Romalılaşma bu isimler aracılığıyla da izlenebilmektedir. Yazıtlarda Bithynia bölgesinde çok gözlemlenen çok sayıda ligatüre rastlanmaktadır. Makalede ayrıca Bolu Müzesi’nde korunan ancak yazıtı olmayan birkaç eser de tanıtılmaktadır. Bunlar katalogda numara 42-53 arasında incelenmektedir. Yazıtsız iki altar (no. 42-43), iki phallos taşı (no. 44-45), figürlü (no. 46-49) veya figürsüz (no. 50-51) ostothekler, ostothek biçimli gövdesi olan bir mezar taşı (no. 52)ve bir vaftiz teknesinden (no. 53) oluşmaktadır.

ABSTRACT: We sketch out an itinerary of the development of the epigram from the autonomous compositions of witty character, festive or satirical, carried out in imitation of the Greek Anthology and the latin classics or neo-latin poets which, being part of the emblema triprex, were used by humanists like Alciato and other authors of emblem books in 16th-17th centuries with didactic and moral purposes. We report on the metrical solutions that are given to adapt the classic generic paradigms of epigram to the Spanish language and metrical forms in the books of emblems, and in order to show this we analyse 560 epigrams which belong to the works of the Spanish emblematists Juan de Horozco, Hernando de Soto, Sebastián de Covarrubias and Francisco de Villava. We analyse metrical forms, tendencies in the dispositio and elocutio, relation to the picturae and audience to which they are addressed.
RESUMEN: Se traza un itinerario de la evolución del epigrama desde las composiciones autónomas de caracter agudo, festivo o satírico, practicadas a imitación de la Antología griega y los clásicos latinos o poetas neolatinos a las que, formando parte del emblema triplex, emplean Humanistas como Alciato y los emblemistas en los siglos XVI-XVII con fines didácticos y morales. Se advierten las soluciones métricas que se dan para adaptar los paradigmas genéricos clásicos a la lengua y formas métricas españolas en los libros de emblemas, y se analizan a tal efecto 560 epigramas que corresponden a las obras de los emblemistas españoles Juan de Horozco, Hernando de Soto, Sebastián de Covarrubias y Francisco de Villava. Se analizan tendencias métricas, tendencias en la dispositio y elocutio, relación con las picturae y público al que se dirigen.

Zwei gebildete Männer aus Nikomedeia: Die Epigramme des Basilikos und des Kyrion

Seit vielen Jahren sammeln wir im archäologischen Museum von İzmit/Kocaeli Inschriften aus der Zeit der Antike. Die Arbeit wird mit der Genähmigung der türkischen Antiken Direktion unternommen. Im Rahmen dieses Unternehmens werden hier zwei Epigramme aus der Ostnekropole von Nikomedeia bekannt gemacht. Beide Epigramme stehen auf Sarkophagen (Fig. 1-3), die man 2005 bei den Baggern des Baugeländes hinter der Gibsfabrik Knauf in Köseköy (ca. 5 km östlich von dem Burgberg von Nikomedeia) (Karte Nr. 1) freigelegt hat. Das erste Epigramm steht auf der Schmalseite eines (verglichen mit Nr. 2) relativ kleinen Sarkophages (Nr. 1, Fig. 4-5), welches einen jung verstorbenen Mann namens Basilikos rühmt. Er ist aus Attika nach Nikomedeia gekommen und dort gestorben. Sein rechtmäßiger Bruder Theodotos, ihn zu bestatten, ist ebenfalls nach Nikomedeia bereist. Die zweite Hälfte des Epigrammes ist in Fragen und Antworten formuliert. Es handelt sich um zehn iambischen Trimetern. Die letzten zwei Zeilen sind übliche Strafformel in den Sarkophaginschriften und daher nicht metrisch.

Bei dem zweiten Sarkophag (Nr. 2, Fig. 6-16) handelt es sich um ein riesig gestaltetes Grabmonument. Auf der Vorderseite steht eine zehnzeilige, sorgfältig geschriebene Inschrift. Sie ist die Grabinschrift eines mit siebzigjahren gestorbenen Mannes Namens Kyrion. Das Grab wurde für ihn von seiner Frau und den Söhnen errichtet. Aus dem Inhalt der Inschrift geht hervor, daß Kyrion in Nikomedeia ein angesehener Mann war. Eine Identifikation des Mannes ist aber nicht möglich. Man erfährt nur, daß er eine hoch gebildete Person war und die berühmten Dichter und Historiker wie Hesiod, Archilochos, Menandros und Xenophon seine Vorbilder waren. Der poetische Rhythmus der Inschrift ist zwar unverkennbar. Ich erkenne aber in den Versen (?) kein bestimmtes Metrum. Ein ähnliches Epigramm aus mysischen Hadrianoi, welches ins 4./5. Jh. n. Chr. datiert wird, bezeichnen Merkelbach u. Stauber als „holperige Versen“ (s. u. den Kommentar f. Z. 1). Sowohl die phonologische Merkmale als auch die hohe Anzahl von Ligaturen deuten auf eine ziemlich späte Zeit hin. Aus den letzten zwei Zeilen erfahren wir, dass Kyrion den Standort seines Sarkophages wohl selbst bestimmt hatte. Die Ziffer am Ende der Inschrift (τησεράκοντα (sic) στοχία φια´), die wohl aus dem städtischen Archivdokument des Grabes auf den Stein übertragen wurde, geben wohl den Standort des Sarkophages innerhalb der Ostnekrople von Nikomedeia (Karte Nr. 2).

Success in war over rival kings or barbarian invaders was one of the marks of legitimation for the Hellenistic rulers. Depictions of, or allusions to, war are quite rare in the surviving Hellenistic court poetry; however, we can have a glance of military life (and death) through the lens of verse epitaphs for men who served in the army –in every rank, from royal philoi to humble privates–, and from the occasional dedicatory epigrams they commissioned for temple offerings. Poetic portrayal of members of an army involves display (or concealment) of many layers of their individual and public “identity”: social status, ethnicity, cultural background, religious belief, etc. Building a corpus of such epigrams produced in the 4th-1st cent. BC, from every area of the Hellenistic world (mainland Greece, Macedonia, the Ptolemaic, Attalid and Seleucid kingdoms, the independent poleis of Asia Minor) I shall try to assess similarities and differences in self-presentation of men who –often gone unremarked by ancient historians or court poets– helped building the power of their basileis or keeping the freedom of their own polis.

Name is an important part of someone’s life, it is an identity. However, nowadays a name likely does not reflect the owner’s origin or nation. In Indonesian culture context, naming children is a meaningful moment for parents. This qualitative study was intended to describe how parents name their children. It involved 80 respondents; they were Semarang City citizens who had children. The data were collected by distributing questionnaires and conducting interview. Most respondents were Javanese, Moslem, born between 1950s and 1960s, and graduated from high school. The respondents liked combining words from two or more different languages to form their children’ names. There were very few parents using Indonesian words only. This paper compares a number of epigrams from the Garland of Philip and their likely models in the Garland of Meleager. By such a comparison, this work aims to stress the common features in the Philippan variations, which in turn would represent stylistic trends of the second Garland, namely: 1) the avoidance of suspense, by revealing the theme of a poem from its beginning; 2) the use of standard expressions, possibly felt as sub-generic hallmarks; 3) the reduction in the number of enjambments and the overall tendency towards a rigorous distribution of the themes in every line or couplet; 4) the relevant role played by the words, which the model and the imitation share; 5) the lexical refinement, a frequent feature but less prominent than commonly believed. By trying to shed light on these stylistic trends of Philippan variations, this paper wants to offer an argument against the view of Philippan poetry as merely imitative.

In addition to a great number of printed texts, Ruđer Bošković left behind a significant body of manuscript material which, after moving through the hands of various private owners in Dubrovnik, in 1962 finally reached the Bancroft Library at the University of California, Berkeley. The paper provides a catalogue listing of all the poetic texts that form a part of this manuscript collection. Roughly 500 poetic texts by Ruđer Bošković ― some of them original compositions, others translations ― containing about 7,400 lines of which approximately one tenth known to date, make this manuscript collection the basic source for the study of poetic writings of Ruđer Bošković, especially epigrammatic and extemporal, who has been insufficiently studied in his poetic capacity. Apart from the poems of Ruđer Bošković (many of them autographed), the collection also features poems by his brother Baro Bošković as well as about thirty previously unknown poems by their sister Anica Bošković.

My PhD dissertation is an exhaustive commentary on the 31 epigrams ascribed to Apollonides. It deals with textual, literary, intertextual, historical, stylistic and metric matters. From a methodological point of view, I employed such a multiple perspective of analysis to fully understand the literariness and multiple layers of meaning of the epigrams of Apollonides. The commentary is preceded by an extended introduction, where I sum up the poetic features of Apollonides in the context of Late Hellenistic epigrammatic literature.

Tujuan penelitian ini mengetahui kemampuan berbicara (bahasa Indonesia) mahasiswa lamban belajar (slow learner) Politeknik Negeri Jakarta, jenjang diploma III, program studi manajemen pemasaran, angkatan 2013/2014, yang berjumlah lima orang, meliputi: (i) kemampuan membaca (tulisan berbahasa Indonesia), (ii) kemampuan mendeskripsikan sesuatu. Topik penelitian ini dipandang penting untuk diinvestigasi karena mereka berkategori lamban belajar (kecerdasan intelektual 70-79, berdasarkan skala wechsler). Pada sisi lain, mereka berstatus sebagai mahasiwa jenjang diploma III sehingga dituntut mampu berbicara dengan baik dan tepat. Pertanyaanya adalah apakah mahasiswa lamban belajar Politeknik Negeri Jakarta mempunyai kemampuan berbicara yang baik? Jawabannya adalah kemampuan berbicara mereka belum diketahui. Karena itu, dipandang perlu dilakukan penelitian tentang hal tersebut. Penelitian dilakukan dengan pendekatan penelitian deskriptif. Data dikumpulkan dengan memberikan tes dan melakukan observasi langsung di lapangan (kelas). Data dianalisis secara kualitatif, dengan proses: (i) mereduksi data, (ii) men-disply data, dan (iii) menyimpulkan. Hasilnya adalah (i) 100% mahasiswa dapat membaca (tulisan berbahasa Indonesia) dengan baik, (ii) 100% mahasiswa dapat mendeskripsikan sesuatu bila diberikan rambu-rambu petunjuk gagasan, tetapi kurang mampu mendeskripsikan sesuatu bila tidak diberikan rambu-rambu penunjuk gagasan. Kesimpulannya adalah mahasiswa lamban belajar Politekik Negeri Jakarta dapat membaca tulisan berbahasa Indonesia dengan baik dan dapat mendeskripsikan sesuatu bila diberikan rambu-rambu penunjuk gagasan.

Nikaia’dan Yeni Bir Ostothek Ve Üzerindeki Epigram

Burada tanıtılan ostothek defineciler tarafından İznik’ten (Nikaia) kaçırılırken jandarma tarafından bir baskınla ele geçirilmiş ve Bursa Müzesi’ne götürülmüştür. Ostothek’in Nikaia’daki tam buluntu yeri bilinmemektedir. Eser bugün Bursa Arkeoloji Müzesi’nde sergilenmektedir. Mavimsi gri mermerden yapılmış olan ostothek Bithynia Bölgesi’nin tipik stil özelliklerini taşımaktadır. Küçük bir tapınak biçiminde betimlenmiş olan eserin gösterişli, palmet motifli akroterlerle süslü ve bir çatıyı temsil eden kapağı vardır. Eser genel olarak iyi durumdadır. Ancak üzerinde bir pulluk tarafından oluşturulmuş derin çizik izleri vardır ve bundan dolayı eserin muhtemelen tarla sürerken keşfedildiği anlaşılmaktadır. Ostothek’in kapağı ve teknesi birbirine demir kenetlerle tutturulmuştur ve bunlar eserin üzerinde hâlâ durmaktadır. Ancak, eserin daha Antik Dönem’de soyulduğu bu kenetlerin çevrelerindeki eski kırıklardan anlaşılmaktadır. Türünün güzel bir örneği olan ostothek’in arka cephesi hariç üç yüzü de çerçevelendirilmiş ve figürlerle işlenmiştir. Arka cephe düzeltilmiş ve öylece bırakılmıştır. Üzerinde çerçeve ve kasetler içinde üç figür ve bunların üst kısmında yazıt bulunan yüzün ön cephe olduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Sağ ve sol yan cephelere de birer figür işlenmiştir. Ana cephenin sağındaki yan yüze Bithynia Bölgesi’nde lahit ve ostothekler üzerinde tipik olan ve ürkünç bir görünüm sergilemeyen bir Gorgo/Medusa başı betimi işlenmiştir. Sol yan yüzde ise karışık bir yaratık olan büyükçe bir deniz atının betimi (Hippokamp) görülmektedir. Belden yukarısı at, belden aşağısı ise balık biçimindeki bu yaratığın kuyruğunun ucu belirgin işlenmiştir. Antik Dönem’de özellikle lahitlerin süslemelerinde karışık deniz yaratıkları çok sık betimlenmiştir. Dikine üç kasete bölünmüş olan ön cephede her bir kaset içine bir figür betimlenmiştir. Ortada kanatlı bir Eros figürü seçilmektedir. Eros çıplak vaziyette ters çevrilmiş sönmüş bir meş’aleye sağa doğru dayanmış vaziyettedir ve kanatları her iki yana açıktır. Eros’un bu tarz betimleri lahitler (özellikle bölge lahitleri) ve mezar taşları üzerinde görülmektedir. Antik Dönem’de ölümün (Thanatos) ters çevrilmiş sönmüş bir meş’aleye dayanan Eros olarak betimlendiği bilinmektedir. Eros’un sağında mantosuna sıkıca sarılmış biçimde bir kadın figürü betimlenmiştir. Eros’un sol kısmında ise yine tıpkı kadın figüründe olduğu gibi içte bir khiton dışta ise bir himation giymiş bir erkek figürü görülmektedir. Her üç figürün de yüzleri zarar gördüğünden yüz hatları kaybolmuştur. Ön yüzde betimlenmiş olan kadın ve erkek figürleri olasılıkla yazıtta adı geçen mezar sahibi Agathos’un anne ve babasını temsil etmektedir. Eserin yazıtından 18 yaşında öldüğünü anladığımız Agathos’un mezarının bir ostothek olması onun yakıldığını ve küllerinin burada saklandığını göstermektedir.
Bithynia Bölgesi lahit açısından olduğu kadar ostothek açısından da çok zengindir. Bu bölgeden çok sayıda ve çeşitte ostothek ele geçmiştir. Özellikle lahitlerde görülen keskin çizgili çerçevelerden oluşan ostothekler bu bölge için tipiktir. Burada tanıttığımız eser de bu guruba girmektedir. Nikaia’dan bu biçimde yapılmış çok sayıda ostothek bilinmektedir. Bunlar lahitlerde olduğu gibi Nikaia veya çevresindeki yerel atölyelerde üretilmiş olmalıdır. Bithynia ostothekler’i için İ. S. 2. yy.’ın 2. yarısı önerilmektedir. Burada tanıtılan eser de bu dönemde üretilmiş olmalıdır. Ostothek’in ön yüzünde kapak üzerinden başlayan ve kapağın profillerine yazılmış ve gövdede de devam eden 5 satırlık bir yazıt bulunmaktadır ve bu bir epigramdır. Bugüne kadar bu bölgede birçok mezar şiiri ele geçmiştir. Nikaia ve teritoryumunun ise Bithynia'da epigram açısından en zengin bölgelerden birisi olduğu anlaşılmaktadır. İki distykhon ve bir heksameter’den oluşan şiirin çevirisi aşağıdadır.

Chapter 10 studies Hellenistic and Roman military epitaphs, and addresses a number of interconnected issues: the unpopularity of epitaphs for individual soldiers in the Greek Anthology; the near absence of inscribed epitaphs in literary sources, despite the fact that they are often of good literary quality; and the question of their authorship.
Apparently, there was no ‘Hellenistic Simonides’, author of warriors’ inscriptional epitaphs worthy to be gathered in a book. In the seventh book of the Greek Anthology there are many fictitious epitaphs for Homeric heroes or famous historical figures, but funerary epigrams celebrating the death in battle of individual, contemporary military men are only a dozen. This lack may be a choice of later compilers of florilegia, or may be due to the fact that epigrammatists who composed  military epitaphs did not publish them as a collection. There is no evidence that any epigrammatist known from the Greek Anthology also acted as a professional writer of military epitaphs; we can just propose some hypothetical candidates for this role, such as Damagetus  and Posidippus. Epitaphs for common soldiers were usually commissioned to professional poets, most of whom now remain anonymous (only occasionally we find signatures in epigraphic poems); the technitai  found their inspiration in Homer and in the elegiac, lyric and tragic ‘classics’; anthologies like that of Meleager could also offer some models, although the main literary-epigraphic reference was still the Simonidean corpus. The lack of a specific, recognizable personal style makes it difficult to trace the same hand in contemporary epitaphs. It has been suggested that professional versifiers used ‘sample books’ for composing epitaphs, but the very existence and the nature of these anthologies is still to be proved. In some cases, the deceased, especially when he presents himself as a veteran belonging to the local élite, may have had his say on the contents and form of his future epitaph, or even might have been responsible for composing it.

This article explores the fate of the Stone of Unctionthe marble slab upon which, according to tradition, the dead body of Christ had been anointed for burialin twelfth-century Byzantium. Focusing upon the Stone's association with Manuel I Komnenos, the article examines the imperial handling of this Passion relic in relation to broader trends in the devotional culture of the contemporary Byzantine élite. The special bond between the emperor and the relic, it is argued, should be seen as a manifestation of the pervasive desire, much in evidence during the Komnenian era, to personalise and even privatise the sacred.

König Salomo, der als wichtigster Verfasser der alttestamentarischen Weisheitsliteratur gilt, wird als exemplarischer Weiser immer wieder herbeizitiert, wenn es darum geht, die Gültigkeit überlieferten Wissens zu verbürgen. Der Name 'Salomon' tritt metonymisch aber außerdem für eine bestimmte Art der Textorganisation und für ein Spektrum von Möglichkeiten ein, sich derart präsentierten Texten zu nähern. Über frühneuzeitliche Bibelkommentare, moraldidaktische und erbauliche Texte zum Buch der Sprüche und zum Prediger Salomonis soll hier ein Zugang zu Logaus Epigrammen gesucht werden. Laden sie zu ähnlichen oder ganz anderen Rezeptionsmodi als die salomonischen Schriften der Bibel ein? Dabei ist auch daran zu erinnern, daß Salomo jenseits göttlicher Autorisierung nicht ohne menschliche Makel ist.

This article examines the implications of the pseudonym Friedrich von Logau used when publishing his epigrams: "Salomon von Golaw". The name of King Solomon, famous for his contributions to Old Testament wisdom literature, is often used to warrant the validity of traditional knowledge. More than that, it also typifies a certain way of organising texts and a certain range of possibilities to approach them. Therefore, early modern Bible comments and edifying paraphrases of the Book of Proverbs might help to gain access to Logau's poems. Do they encourage similar modes of reception?
