Purpose -To learn to avoid pitfalls there is need to accept and understand failures. This anonymous case study aims to report a major organisational failure due to the absence of effective knowledge management, where both the reasons for, and organisational consequences of, the failure are fairly clear. Design/methodology/approach -Within a theoretical framework of organisational autopoiesis, the case study compares knowledge management styles from two eras in the history of one engineering project management company: as it grew from an acquired site with a single project to a multi-divisional leader in its regional market, and then as it failed in its original line of business to the point where it divested most of its assets. Findings -In the first era, the executive and line managers were permissive, allowing project teams to work out local solutions for business problems as they arose producing successful and profitable solutions. The decline began and accelerated when management strengthened hierarchical command and control that stifled knowledge sharing and solution development at the work face and exceeded line managers' limits of rationality. Research limitations/implications -This study has the limitations of any historical study of a single case, exacerbated by a need to maintain the anonymity of the surviving company. Originality/value -Few studies so clearly highlight the critical importance of personal knowledge and its sharing in knowledge intensive organisations for maintaining successful operations. Success may have many parents, but in this case the internal comparisons identify specific factors that caused a successful organisation to disintegrate.

Knowledge management (KM) was once a very popular buzzword. However, failure of KM projects contributed to its drop in popularity. This paper aims to synthesise and organise the failure factors that have been discussed in KM literature since the discipline began to gain popularity in the late 90s. The failure factors are organised into two broad categories: causal and resultant. Causal factors refer to the broad organisational and managerial issues that are required to implement KM successfully. Resultant factors on the other hand deal with specific problems and can be regarded more like the symptoms rather than the disease.

This research identifies and establishes the most common and persistent obstacles faced by organisations in the development and implementation of knowledge management (KM) strategies, and strategic benefits that are realised. This study discloses a conundrum in the pattern in the maturity level of the KM initiative and simultaneous obstacles faced by the organisation at these maturity levels. This paper provides a background to the study, analysis of survey results, discussion and conclusion. Survey responses indicate both major themes and those that are lesser reported. The most common and ubiquitous challenge an organisation faces in the present time is the widespread lack of understanding of what KM is. Of only slightly lesser importance to that are obstacles within the organisational culture to effective implementation of KM, 'commitment to cause' and absence of formalised knowledge processes are major themes. Discussion further sheds light on the strategic benefits realised and attributed to KM. This research study findings may guide in examining theory and practice in the preparation and implementation of knowledge management initiatives.

Abstrak: Kajian ini tertujuan untuk mengetahui sejarah perkembangan teknologi komunikasi hingga memasuki era digital dan social media. Emotions play a major role in the lifestyle of every human being living in this world. As the emotions keep changing from time to time, it also affects the external environment. Recently, many research works are focused towards emotion recognition using the brain signals. Brain Computer Interface is a rapidly growing technology as it involves in providing a communication from brain to computer. To acquire the brain several ways are used by the researchers but the most preferable method is Electroencephalogram (EEG). EEG is widely used as it has many advantages than other techniques. For better understanding of the area, we present a survey of research works during the year 2016 to 2020 in this paper and thereby we provide an overview of the available research works in emotion recognition in the field of Brain Computer Interface (BCI). This paper primarily focuses on the testing method and the type of algorithm used for classification of emotions. An analysis has been executed based on the performance metrics like accuracy, number of emotions classified choice of method and several other factors contributing for emotion recognition.

Land contamination by petroleum hydrocarbons is a widespread and global environmental pollution issue from recovery and refining of crude oil and the ubiquitous use of hydrocarbons in industrial processes and applications. Sustainable treatment of hydrocarbon-contaminated industrial land was considered with reference to seven published works on contaminated railway land including the track ballast, crude oil wastes and contaminated refinery soils. A methodology was developed to assess the level hydrocarbon contamination of track ballast (Anderson et al.
