You Had Me At Hello

Summer...
You had me at hello

You swept me up in your intensity

And the crazy-hatted party goers
you brought to my garden

You arrived dressed in eye-popping colours

Against a backdrop of glorious greens

With the summer comes the sun
And with the sun comes the heat

June, July and August whizzed by
in a colourful, shimmering mirage

Trumpets blared sweet summer's song
filling my senses with their heady perfume

While the fish grew fat and happy
in the pond

So many moments to enjoy

So much beauty to drink in

Some scenes almost too beautiful to believe

That this is reality and not just a dream

In my garden, summer has been gentle,

Fluttery

Feminine

Fringed

Filled with colourful hues,

Stately colour shapes

And bold colour wows!

Autumn is on its way
and when I look back

This will have been a Summer
I will never forget!

Bare Beauty

Have you ever noticed a tree standing
naked against the sky,
how beautiful it is?

There is a poem, there is a song.

Every leaf is gone and it is waiting for the spring.
When the spring comes,
it again fills the tree
with the music of many leaves,

Which in due season fall
and are blown away.

And this is the way of life.

Philosophy in a Peony

When life presents us with a big enough problem
it can feel overwhelming

Like it's taking over our whole world

We tackle it as best we can

If we're lucky we get some help

As the problem opens itself up
for our scrutiny

We find many possible
reasons
answers
solutions
questions

In viewing the problem as a whole
we may not know where to begin
or when it will ultimately end

But it's important to remember

Problems are as much a part of life
as everything else

And sometimes,
it's only in the midst of a problem

That we discover the true beauty of life

The Rings of Time

Trees are the ultimate story tellers.

Hidden between their rings of time are tales of: injury, drought, hardship, growth, peace, insect invasions and forest fires.

Dendrochronology, the study and interpretation of tree rings can tell us everything we need to know about a tree's history.

When I came across this fallen tree I couldn't help stopping to count its rings.
Imagine my surprise when I discovered it is about the same age as I am;
Middle age for me, but quite young for a tree.

Its bark,
A roadmap of life,
Filled with light and dark, highs and lows,
Reflects a beauty that comes with time and age.

The tree's stump tells us the final part of this story.

You can see why it had to be cut down...

It remains in the ground,
a marker for a tree that held this spot for fifty-some years.

Strength & Beauty

Ever notice how some people never lose their spirit.

No matter how harsh the conditions,
how heavy the load,

With grace, they carry whatever comes their way.

Seeing how they conduct themselves,
how they maintain their integrity,
their purpose,
their beauty,

Is pure inspiration.
