Review: Us Against You

Us Against You Us Against You by Fredrik Backman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Beartown really took me by surprise and I didn't like it as much because I'm such a fan of Backman's more heartwarming stories. I was prepared this time so I liked this one more.
Interesting story-telling technique in this one. He tells you pretty early on what is going to happen, you just have to keep reading to see how it all unfolds.
Be prepared for tears.

Review: A Reaper at the Gates

A Reaper at the Gates A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The plot moved along nicely but sometimes it felt jumpy and the passage of time wasn't clear. I'm ready for this series to be over. It feels pretty drawn out.

Review: The Lairdbalor

The Lairdbalor The Lairdbalor by Kathleen Kaufman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If Neil Gaiman wrote horror stories, they might feel like this. That aside, this was a pretty gut-wrenching portrait of dealing with anxiety. Well done.

Review: Only Killers and Thieves

Only Killers and Thieves Only Killers and Thieves by Paul Howarth
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I was a bit distracted by the character named Noone. I couldn't decide if it was supposed to be pronounced "no one" or "noon." It was a bit bothersome.
It was really easy to figure out how the story was going to play out. Probably because stuff like this did really happen. It's a history that is not much pondered in America so probably a very good read, particularly these days with race tensions so high.

I received a free digital copy from Goodreads giveaways.

Review: Less

Less Less by Andrew Sean Greer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This felt like it started from a kernel of Death of a Salesman but it grew so much larger than that. Great combination of grand scope and minimalism. Wonderful.

Review: Kill The Farm Boy

Kill The Farm Boy Kill The Farm Boy by Delilah S. Dawson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I did read Phasma but I don't feel as familiar with Dawson's voice as Hearne's. I'm pretty sure I'm a fan though. This book wasn't laugh out loud funny but was was consistently amusing and entertaining. I may get a copy of this for my collection and am looking forward to reading future books in this series.

Review: Dune

Dune Dune by Frank Herbert
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I don't recommend this particular edition. There were quite a few editing errors, that type of thing really annoys me.
