4 DR's
Dear Christian,
If you wish, you could consider closing these 4 DRs below as delete as they are more than 1 week old and no one has replied to them....except the first case where the uploader conceded it cannot be kept.
As for this image below, I am unsure if its OK to review it as I thought the nightlights of the Eiffel Tower are copyrighted.
Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 09:18, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
- Done, for the Eiffel tower, I think the light is quite ordinary in this image... I reviewed it, but I will understand if you or someone else nominate it for deletion. Christian Ferrer (talk) 12:18, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

Nice guitar skills!
Just saw your YouTube channel. Amazing stuff. I liked your Passion cover a lot! I'm not too much of a Johnny Mandel fan though haha. ― Gerifalte Del Sabana 10:59, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks you very much, glad you like it. Me neither, I'm not especially a fan Johnny Mandel whose work I know very little, I'm more a guitar swing fan and I played Johnny Mandel because we have a little studied this song in classroom at the music conservatory. Structured Data - development update, March 2019
This text is also posted on the Structured Data hub talk page. You can reply there with questions, comments, or concerns.
A development update for the current work by the Structured Data on Commons team:
After the release of multilingual file captions, work began on getting depicts and other statements ready for release. These were originally scheduled for release in February and into March, however there are currently two major blockers to finishing this work (T215642, T217157). We will know more next week about when depicts and statements can likely be ready for testing and then release; until then I've tentatively updated the release schedule.
Once the depicts feature is ready for testing, it will take place in two stages on TestCommons. The first is checking the very basics; is the design comfortable, how does the simple workflow of adding/editing/removing statements work, and building up help and process pages from there. The second part is a more detailed test of depicts and other statements, checking the edge-case examples of using the features, bugs that did not come up during simple testing, etc. Additionally we'll be looking with the community for bugs in interaction with bots, gadgets, and other scripts once the features are live on Commons. Please let me know if you're interesting in helping test and fix these bugs if they show up upon release, it is really hard to find them in a test environment or, in some cases, bugs won't show up in a testing environment at all.
One new thing is definitely coming within the next few weeks, pending testing: the ability to search for captions. This is done using the inlabel
keyword in search strings, and will be the first step in helping users find content that is specifically structured data. I'll post a notice when that feature is live and ready for use.
Thanks, let me know if you have questions about these plans. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 21:34, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

File deleted
Dear FatherMcFly!
I think that the words of PaterMcFly in this discussion were absolutely correct. See also this source. It is not clear why the file was deleted. Could you please restore this file to Wikimedia Commons??
Thank you in advance, --DarDar (talk) 10:34, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- No, I will not, sorry. In my understanding, and in matter of copyright status, "unknow author" is not the same thing than "anonymous author", therefore it is not clear to me that the work is indeed in public domain. Christian Ferrer (talk) 14:08, 17 March 2019 (UTC)

Dear Christian,
I'm sorry to disturb you. If you have some time, please consider reviewing these images as there are few images of them on Commons.

- PS: From the source, would you say this image is own work. The watermark bothers me at the source.
- File:Renaud Camus et Karim Ouchikh (2019).jpg
Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 05:30, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
- Done yes I think it is a credible own work, this image has full size with EXIFs, the camera is the same than with a lot of other images from him, and the watermak seems to be a thing that he does on a lot of wrk e.g. [2], I think this is ok. Christian Ferrer (talk) 05:46, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
- Comment: Thank You Christian for giving me a second good opinion on that image. I have reviewed it now. With flickr images, I worry sometimes even though I saw the camera metadata. As for the 3 images, I only uploaded them since there are so few images in their 3 categories here, here and here . Thanks for all your help. Structured Data - early depicts testing
The Structured Data on Commons development team has the very basic version of depicts statements available for early testing on Test-Commons. You can add very basic depicts statements to the file page by going into the new “Structured Data” tab located below the "Open in Media Viewer button." You can use the Latest Files link in the left side nav bar to select existing images, or use the UploadWizard to upload new ones to test with (although those images won’t actually show up on the site). The test site is not a fully functional replica of Commons, so there may be some overall problems in using the site, but you should be able to get a general idea of what using the feature is like.
Early next week I will call for broad, community-wide testing of the feature similar to what we did for Captions, with instructions for testing, known bugs, and a dedicated space to discuss the feature as well as a simple help page for using statements. Until then, you're welcome to post on the SDC talk page with what you might find while testing depicts.
Thanks in advance for trying it out, you'll be hearing more from me next week. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 21:59, 21 March 2019 (UTC)
How do you add a subpage to your profile?
Hi there,
I saw that you had added one of my photos to your "Favorites" subpage, and I was wondering how I could create such a page on my profile?
Thanks! Kestreltail (talk) 21:20, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) @Kestreltail: there's a gadget that can be enabled in your preferences that handles that. See Help:Favorites. clpo13(talk) 21:50, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
- Hi, indeed Clpo13 is right, you go to Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets, section "Interface: Files and categories" and you select "Mark images as Favorites", and so, when you will look at a file, you will have "Fave" that appears in a tab, the subpage will be created automatically as soon as you click "Fave" for an image. In your image the building looks very impressive and I like the color tone. Christian Ferrer (talk) 05:46, 23 March 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for responding so promptly (both of you)! I'm glad you liked my photo, Christian Ferrer! Félicitations on today's featured photo!Kestreltail (talk) 13:53, 23 March 2019 (UTC)
Problem in VI
--Archaeodontosaurus (talk) 06:05, 24 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi, I was unaware that Pixabay had changed its licensing so I recently uploaded an image from Pixabay,https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Raccoon-3820327_960_720.jpg. Can you take a look, I believe that this image was uploaded on Pixabay before the switch.--BoothSift 01:47, 26 March 2019 (UTC)

Regarding uploading of logos
Hi Christian,
Thank you for dropping the note. I was looking for a way to simply upload the official logo of Sunway College, so it can be seen on the wikipedia page. If so, how do I proceed?
Thank you so much for your time
Christock (talk) 05:53, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Christock: Hi, logos and trademarks are accepted in Wikimedia Commons only if
- they are in public domain (help) for a specific reason; or
- they are freely licensed by their owner, in such case please include a web link; or
- they are below the threshold of originality; or
- the copyright holder sends directly a permission to OTRS, where you can read how to do it. Note that even if it is you who are the copyright holder, you must send this permission.
If the logo does not fit in the categories above, you may upload the file directly into Wikipedia under the "fair use rationale". But I'm not a specialist, you'll have to ask there. You can read en:Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline.
But in any case do not upload here this logo again or you are taking the risk that your account be blocked, because you did it several times. I hope this helps you. Regards, Christian Ferrer (talk) 21:03, 5 April 2019 (UTC)

Ketlag (talk) 06:10, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
- Hello @Ketlag: this is the same answer that I already did a bit above for someone else:
Logos and trademarks (and that is also true for book and disc covers) are accepted in Wikimedia Commons only if
- they are in public domain (help) for a specific reason; or
- they are freely licensed by their owner, in such case please include a web link; or
- they are below the threshold of originality; or
- the copyright holder sends directly a permission to OTRS, where you can read how to do it. Note that even if it is you who are the copyright holder, you must send this permission.
If the content does not fit in the categories above, you may upload the file directly into Wikipedia under the "fair use rationale" as for the examples that you have quoted yourself. But I'm not a specialist, you'll have to ask there. You can read en:Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline. And for the most relevant policies here : com:scope and com:Licensing.
Hope this help. Regards, Christian Ferrer (talk) 06:20, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

Australian and Uk graffiti
Hi, you deleted this Commons:Deletion requests/File:Link (The Legend of Zelda) - graffiti in Melbourne (croped).jpg and I understand your point of view, according to Commons:Freedom of panorama. So now, if you pleased, can you delete every files of these categories Category:Graffiti in Australia and Category:Graffiti in the United Kingdom, because I think authors of these paintings do not give their permission to use their work. Good luck. Hi! I've seen a message from you about 'Gareth Jones' film poster. It was detected as not free content. I want to tell you, that this is the official Ukrainian poster of the film, that is noted in the release, and while adding it I've added the link to the official page of the film at the production company website. How can we solve this problem? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Geezaaaz (talk • contribs) 13:05, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- Hi, a free compatible license have to be added to the official website, or the copyright holder have to send a permission to our permission system, where you can read how to do it. Regards, Christian Ferrer (talk) 20:02, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
Why is artwork being deleted?
We added free artwork and it has been deleted repeatedly. Then, we updated the page with artwork already in Wikimedia and it has been deleted. Is our artist page being targeted for some reason? We have provided copies of our photography permissions for new artwork and we are following guidelines. Tbkowalski (talk) 14:04, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
- In order to publish here, that is to say under specific licensing terms, the visuals of album covers, then the copyright holders of those album covers must send the appropriate permissions to our permission system. Otherwise, we can't keep the images of those disc covers. Regards, Christian Ferrer (talk) 20:38, 12 April 2019 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Stanisław Mikołajczyk.JPG. While you are correct that anonymous =/= unknown, applicable PD template would be Template:PD-EU-no author disclosure. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 04:41, 16 April 2019 (UTC)
- No, to be applicable it must be that "the original author's actual identity was not publicly disclosed". Sorry but there is, as far I see, no specific informations about the publication. Therefore once again "anonymous or pseudonymous" is not the same thing than unknown. Christian Ferrer (talk) 04:49, 16 April 2019 (UTC)
A question about URAA and chinese public domain
Bonjour, how are you, Christian? Sorry in English. You closed the talk (File:1962《阿诗玛》封面.jpg) and deleted the file with the reason of URAA. So I have a question that how can the URAA restore US copyright to chinese works. Let's just talk about File:1962《阿诗玛》封面.jpg. It is a front cover of a book that published in 1962. According to URAA main test:
If the answer to either of these questions is NO, then the URAA does not restore US copyright to foreign works. 1.If published, was the work published in an eligible country and not published in the United States during the 30-day period following publication in such eligible country? 2.Was the work still in copyright in the source country on the date of restoration?
Answer:
For question 1, NO. This front cover is on a reissue version of a poem. People's Literature Publishing House first published the poem as a book in 1955, then two Japanese writers translated the poem and published it in 1957 (over 30-day period), the translate is based on the version published in 1955. On the other hand, this image File:1962《阿诗玛》封面.jpg has no relation with 1955's front cover.
For question 2, NO. This image is a front cover of a book, the copyright is reserved by People's Literature Publishing House, the publisher is a legal entity, so the book and the front cover is legal entity's project. According to Copyright Law of China Act 21 paragraph 2, the protected period is 50 years after publishing. So it has become public domain in China from 31 December 2012.
So I think URAA does not restore US copyright to the front cover.--瑞丽江的河水 (talk) 13:20, 17 April 2019 (UTC)
- Hello, the date of restoration of copyrights in USA for the People's Republic of China works is January 1, 1996, before the delay of 50 years for this book cover, this is why I deleted the image. Christian Ferrer (talk) 17:20, 17 April 2019 (UTC)
- So, do all the photos and other projects that published in china after 1946 will be restore US copyright due to URAA, even it has become public domain in china? Thus, I can't upload chinese PD that published after 1946, is that right?--瑞丽江的河水 (talk) 20:17, 17 April 2019 (UTC)
- If not in public domain at January 1, 1996, and published from 1924 through 1977 the duration of copyright protection in USA is 95 years. After 1 January 1978 in almost case the delay become 70 years after the death of author. Therefore, no you can't upload such works, published in china after 1946, unless I miss something. See Hirtle chart. Christian Ferrer (talk) 04:52, 18 April 2019 (UTC)

Kept images
If you feel Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Terrence Andrew Davis was in error, let us discuss it. I read everything and felt that Keep was the safer option due to the source website clearly stating materials are PD. Again, if you feel this is wrong, I am open to talking! Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 21:26, 17 April 2019 (UTC)
- Yes of course I feel the files, at least the ones that I nominated, have to be deleted. That was the purpose of the deletion request. The publisher is very unlikely to be the photographer/author, therefore he can not put the images in public domain. That was what I tried to write in my rationale "the images are unlikely selfies, therefore we need the permissions from the photographer(s) ", and I did not change my mind. I do not have much more to say, do what you want. Regards, Christian Ferrer (talk) 05:00, 18 April 2019 (UTC)

The original uploader of that file thought, I forgot to place the chemical catalyst into the middle of that reaction scheme, but it was intentionally. Just placing them somewhere into the middle is chemically nonsense. This reaction is divided up into many steps, and each of those steps use their own catalyst. Violaciones de los derechos de autor
Hola, Cristian.

Deleted Content: Chasys Draw IES 4.60.01 screenshot, SWM.png
Hi Christian, The abovementioned work is my own creation, which features a screenshot of a piece of software that is also my own creation (I'm the author of Chasys Draw IES). I therefore believe that this content should not have been deleted for the reasons cited in the deletion notification. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jpcha2 (talk • contribs) 16:15, 24 April 2019 (UTC) Jpcha2 (talk) 16:16, 24 April 2019 (UTC)Jpcha2
- Hi, this is a screeshot of a freeware, not a of free licensed software. The right of commercial reuse, as well as modification, must be explicitly given by the copyright holder, even if it is you. This can't be done by an anonymous account such as the one you have used for this upload. We must be sure. There is two solutions, the copyright holder, even if it is you, send a permission to our permission system com:OTRS, or you add a free explicit license to your official website; example : just below the screenshot available in that page you add something like "this screenshot is licensed under the cc-by-sa-4.0 license". Hello Christian Ferrer, is it possible, that you delete or hide the old version of this file? Today I have uploaded a new version with a small fix (double-bond positioning). I don´t want, that anyone uses the old one or resets it. The old one is also shown in the preview. Can you delete or hide it? Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 07:37, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

LEGITIMATE CLEARANCE
How are they so called 'bogus' by you? These are real which other countries outside of the USA are involved, so they are not written in black and white format. If you will search the legal documents of other countries, these meet their standards and speciation. Simply to call a name does not make it fake.
PLEASE ELOBORATE. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kevin Moffitt (talk • contribs) 07:23, 27 April 2019 (UTC)
- Official documents may be in public domain for various reasons. But the reasons (e.g. source, authors, ect..) must be given and the relevant PD tags must be added to the files instead fo the Creative Commons license that are indeed bogus here. Example File:08-F-0481 FactorsDocsBates401-500.pdf, or one of the files in Category:PD US Government; or from another country. If the licenses are not fixed then the files will likely be deleted. If you correct them, do not mention it here but directly in the relevant deletion request page in order to help whoever will close the request, and that surely will not be me, procedure obliges. RE: Deleted content
Christian Ferrer (talk) 05:37, 28 April 2019 (UTC)
Dear Mr. Christian Ferrer, permission to use the image that you deleted has been uploaded and and email was sent in regard to Commons:OTRS, providing evidence of permission via e-mail. Please kindly advise how to upload such content so that it passes accordingly, yours sincerely. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Withepedia (talk • contribs) 05:36, 29 April 2019 (UTC)
- Hello, nothing more to do, if a valid permission is received, then the file will be automatically restored. But there may be a delay, because of a queue. And in case your question is about potential future files, you may ask in Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard or in Commons:Village pump, because I'm not a specialist of our permission system. Regards, Christian Ferrer (talk) 10:24, 29 April 2019 (UTC)
Dear Christian,
With 1700+ images in License review due to an influx of 500px images, this category will be quite full for a long time. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 08:04, 29 April 2019 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for the info, I will try to help if it's in my abilities. Christian Ferrer (talk) 10:26, 29 April 2019 (UTC)
- Its OK. If it was 700-750 images then I could do something but when you add 1,000 more, you just feel so tired. I had Sunday chores to do to since we are all volunteers here. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 18:26, 29 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Leoboudv: I am not used to it, what link should I follow to confirm the license? Christian Ferrer (talk) 18:56, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- Comment: For this 500px image: File:20811165680 Jpg (120052591).jpeg, I would use either https://500px.com/photo/120052591/20811165680-jpg-by-j%C3%BCrgen-klemt OR https://tools.wmflabs.org/import-500px/photo/120052591 (ie. detail page) It should not matter. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 19:09, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- https://500px.com/photo/120052591/20811165680-jpg-by-j%C3%BCrgen-klemt have no license, but if https://tools.wmflabs.org/import-500px/photo/120052591 is enough, well, ok. I don't remember, was it 500px that changed their licenses? Christian Ferrer (talk) 19:16, 30 April 2019 (UTC)

Files were deleted and I'd like to know why
I'm fairly new to wikimedia so if I somehow broke the rules with my files, and if there is anything I can do to rectify the issue I will. These are the files that were deleted, I look forward to hearing from you. bhttps://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/Files_uploaded_by_The_Final_Horseman — Preceding unsigned comment added by The Final Horseman (talk • contribs) 23:13, 29 April 2019 (UTC)
- That was, and is still written, in the deletion request "Official symbol. Proper license tag should be used if it's in public domain." That mean that if those official symbols are in public domain in their country of origin, then the corresponding license tag(s) should have been added to the files. HMLAT-303 New Squadron Patch
Good evening I am the Uniformed Readiness Coordinator (URC) for HMLAT-303 and I am attempting to update my squadron patch. We have recently (April 26, 2019) changed our patch design which can be seen in the following official Marine Corps page https://www.3rdmaw.marines.mil/Units/MAG-39/HMLAT-303/. I attempted to upload the new squadron patch image on April 28 but it was unfortunately taken down on April 29. I was tasked to upload this image from the current commanding officer of HMLAT-303 which I thought would give me “required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above” as per your message on my talk page. If this true I would like to have the current HMLAT-303 patch design re-instated. If not, what is the correct channel to have the correct patch uploaded onto Wikipedia? Best regards HMALT-303 URC. — Preceding unsigned comment added by HMLAT303URC (talk • contribs) 04:03, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- Hello, I restored it, I did not know that was a US military symbol.I thought of a logo, but the CC license was bogus here, I added the relevant tag. Christian Ferrer (talk) 04:48, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
