Hello. Some of the invertebrate images you uploaded recently were in wnted categories with non-existent names in Wikidata so I created them under Category:Invertebrates. Please check and improve. Thanks ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2 (talk) 06:58, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
- @ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2: Hello, yes I already noticed your help, thanks you. I checks all the files before to remove them from there, and I already improve the categories you created when it is needed. In almost cases, when there is no entries in Wikidata, it is because the taxon name used by the Yale museum is an older form (a synonym) that is not anymore used, in such cases I do some research on internet to find the good name. Much more rarely in some cases it is the entries that is lacking in Wikidata. When I see a category created by you for a name that is not anymore used, I usually move the files to a new category with the appropriate name and I put a redirect on the former. If you don't find some names in Wikidata, then you can abstain to create those categories, and I will find the appropriate names/categories when I check the files in Category:Invertebrate Zoology Division, Yale Peabody Museum (to be sorted out). Bonjour,

Structured Data - computer-aided tagging
File:InternationalRecognitionofCatalonia.svg should never have been kept because it remains patent nonsense
This file is patent nonsense - it relates to the international recognition of a country that does not exist according to anyone, and is not recognised by anyone. It lacks educational value for the same reason. If this was not clear at the time of the last delete discussion it is now very clear indeed. FOARP (talk) 13:29, 18 September 2019 (UTC)
- Not my fault. The file is widely used in the other projects, therefore it is considered as "in scope", as the administrator in Commons have not the power to decides what is in scope or not for the other projects (exception made of a very few obvious cases of spam, vandalism, ect...); one of the only reasons, if not the only, that can allow an administrator to delete this image as long as it is used, is a copyright violation. Christian Ferrer (talk) 17:05, 18 September 2019 (UTC)
- Not blaming you in particular for this, but at this point correcting this seems basically impossible barring going to every one of those wikis and arguing in a foreign language and/or editing the file for accuracy so that it shows no countries recognising Catalonia (which seems very point-y). FOARP (talk) 09:41, 19 September 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Christian, so, with help from another editor I went and deleted this file, and the (equally-inaccurate) file File:NonSovereignRecognitionofCatalonia.svg, from the ~25 wikis on which it was being used. I can't say this was a fun experience because the immediate response of a number of these wikis was to threaten me with being blocked for vandalism, and a misunderstanding caused by Google translate actually did result in me being blocked on Basque wiki (I have been on EN Wiki for more than 12 years and have a clean block-log there, so this was an unpleasant new experience for me). Even without that it did feel like a very POINT-y thing to do, and working across so many wikis with another editor might well have resulted in objections that I was tag-teaming and/or canvassing. EDIT: indeed, the admin on Portuguese wiki was convinced that I was a sock-puppet of the other editor and deleted all my comments from the article talk page - it seems that the "do not edit other editors comments" rule is not enforced on Portuguese Wiki! It really would be better if delete discussions related to the accuracy of files could be centralised here on Wiki Commons - I understand the language barrier might be a problem, but as we've seen, this cuts both ways. Assuming the final deletion goes 24 hours without being reverted, am I OK to open a delete discussion on these files? FOARP (talk) 08:08, 24 September 2019 (UTC)
- Theoretically yes, a new deletion can be requested if the situation has evolved compared to the previous request. Note that there is also a 7 days minimum delay here, but sometimes much more. Note also that once the request is started it is often unpopular to place or remove an image from an article to make an argument one way or the other, so it is better to be carefull not to put yourself in a difficult situation. Technically you can make a new deletion request, but personnaly I'd wait at least two weeks or more so that things are done as sincerely, and as calmly as possible. Subjects that are related to politics, especially when there are divergences of point of view are very sensitive, you have to be very careful and serene, you have experienced it. public domain pictures
Hi Christian
I got your message....I am new here...could you please explain how pictures that are in public domain are not free ??? especially since I left link to those pictures ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Phdalex (talk • contribs) 21:47, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
- Hi, you gave sources for those pictures but the sources given have a clear "All Right reserved" written at bottom of the pages. Being available within the web don't mean to be "in public domain", a compatible explicit free license must be given by the copyright holder. Christian Ferrer (talk) 04:44, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

File:InternationalRecognitionofCatalonia.svg again
Hi, Christian. FOARP has started a new section at Commons:Deletion requests/File:InternationalRecognitionofCatalonia.svg. I'm going to !vote there, but I'm used to English Wikipedia where a second deletion discussion gets a new page, so I just want to check with you that the way it is is standard procedure on Commons. Thanks. Scolaire (talk) 17:42, 1 October 2019 (UTC)
- Hi, that's fine like in this way, a new deletion request for the same file is always on the same page here. Christian Ferrer (talk) 20:15, 1 October 2019 (UTC)
- That's good. Thanks. Scolaire (talk) 13:05, 2 October 2019 (UTC)
jpg deleted for automobile industry
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/Files_uploaded_by_JackPilot
Please tell me why files have been deleted. Icons are missing in Automobile industrie.
Now they are deleted and no jpg is shown. No good alternative. That´s not an improvement.
I would understand replacement by better jpg but not deletion witout alternative.
br Hans — Preceding unsigned comment added by JackPilot (talk • contribs) 10:41, 2 October 2019 (UTC)
- I deleted the logos because I think that they are above the threshold of originality, see Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by JackPilot. Christian Ferrer (talk) 10:56, 2 October 2019 (UTC)
Sorry for the copyright pictures last two years
Hello Christian, I want to say sorry for the copyright pictures in the last two years. I'm sorry I didn't follow the copyright law.
Mitzikarl Mitzikarl (talk) 12:40, 2 October 2019 (UTC)
- Hello, the file that you have uploaded a few days ago is also a copyright violation, I just deleted it. I suggest you do not upload additional images before being a little more knowledgeable about the copyright rules and about our licensing policy, or unless you have taken the picture yourself. Christian Ferrer (talk) 16:31, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

How to upload a picture?
Hello Christian, I just uploaded more more copyright pictures. I didn't follow the copyright law. How to upload without copyright? Thanks for advice Mitzikarl (talk) 09:55, 3 October 2019 (UTC)
- The images:
- must be in public domain (help) for a specific reason; or
- must be freely licensed by their owner, in such case please include a web link; or
- must be below the threshold of originality; or
- must be you "own work" (example a photo taken by you); or
- the copyright holder sends directly a permission to OTRS, where you can read how to do it.
- Hope this helps. Christian Ferrer (talk) 10:58, 3 October 2019 (UTC)

- @Fabián Antioquía: , No I'm not sure that the images are in public domain, we don't know if the images have indeed been published (→made available to the public), the fact that the photos exists, is not sufficiant to say that they have been published, that they have been published between 1924 and 1977, and that they have been published without copyright notice. In my opinion we lacks of informations to determine the copyright status. Christian Ferrer (talk) 07:37, 18 October 2019 (UTC)

Christian Ferrer (talk) 13:33, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Ptolemys theorem
Respected sir, I(dasari naga Vijay Krishna) am a amuture mathematician working as high school teacher in India, my nearly 32 articles are published in international and national reputed journals, I proved all the famous geometry theorems in shortest and elegant way, I requested to add them as reference for those theorems, so that readers can go through with them, hence I am requesting you please add them as reference list, I am extremely sorry if I wasted your valuable time, thanks for your support and cooperation. - Hello, I'm sorry but we have policies to follow. The relevant policy is available at Commons:Project scope, specially the section Commons:Project scope#PDF and DjVu formats. Regards, Christian Ferrer (talk) 05:40, 28 October 2019 (UTC)
If no opinion is taken into consideration, what is the relevance of the discussion pages? Based on what did you decide that only a tent has nothing "creative" to it? Alexandru M. (talk) 12:16, 28 October 2019 (UTC)
- The administrators have not to follow a specific opinion, or even several concurring opinions, but the Wikimedia Commons policies. A DR is indeed a place where we can discuss, but this not compulsory. This specific DR was perfectly relevant as almost all files have been deleted. For the image that have been kept, about the tent itself, the shape is (in my opinion) perfectly square with a roof can not be more simple, therefore it is nothing else to me than something functional, an utilitarian object. About the things that are printed on this tent I don't think either that they are above the threshold of originality. As all other humans I'm not perfect and I may be wrong, and If you are not convinced by my arguments I suggest that you ask the opinions of other users in the Commons:Village pump/Copyright, and in case that it is confirmed that I'm wrong, you, or someone else can nominate again this image for deletion. Christian Ferrer (talk) 17:53, 28 October 2019 (UTC)
- In fact I have fully missed your point, I was thinking that you complained about the file that was kept, sorry. No the deletion of the other files are widely justified, the posters are enough creative to have a copyright protection, both in Romania and in USA. Photos of those posters are derivative works of those posters, and therefore the copyrigh holder(s) of the posters own some rights on a potential commercial reuse of those photo. This is not allowed in Wikimedia Commons. Christian Ferrer (talk) 18:05, 28 October 2019 (UTC)

- Done i did it manually as this morning the button to review the license has disappear. Christian Ferrer (talk) 05:31, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
- Thank You Christian. I notice the same missing button too and don't know what is the problem. Kind Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 09:25, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
- This is one of the images that Christian reviewed manually and today 12 hours later I see the license review button (to pass or fail an image) is still missing. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 20:26, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
- COMMENT:
Dear Christian,
The reason the license review pass or fail buttons don't work is because Rillke's script is no longer maintained. We should use Majora's script as Zhuyifei states Over Here Do you know how to change the script for me please if you can? I tried to change the script by myself here but failed and keep getting this message when I log in:
"Information: You are importing User:Patstuart/Flickrreview.js into your common.js or <skin>.js! This script is unmaintained and User:Rillke/LicenseReview.jsis loaded instead. Please update your JavaScript accordingly."
Also I cannot get the license review button because I still have Rillke's script which is No longer maintained. Not Majora's script. Please help type Majora's script in the right section of my userpage if you can as I am not a computer specialist. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 07:14, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Leoboudv: Hello, I can not edit User:Leoboudv/common.js, only you can. The two "//" are unecessary IMO, just write
importScript('User:Majora/LicenseReview.js');
; however this script don't work either, maybe @Majora: can help us? Christian Ferrer (talk) 07:48, 1 November 2019 (UTC) - I have removed the two slashes but with Majora's script not working and Rillke's script not working, I guess the review system will slow down. Thanks for your help. Goodnight from Vancouver where its 1:42 am. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 08:42, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
- Update. The license review pass/fail button now appears on my system for images and I just reviewed 3 images. But its bed time for me. Goodnight, --Leoboudv (talk) 08:46, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
@Leoboudv: There is an error with the rendering of certain buttons with certain skins. The problem is being monitored at User talk:Majora/LicenseReview.js#Still working? and a fix has been purposed. We just need an interface admin to make the necessary changes and I have asked for one at the admin noticeboard. Please bear with me while we work through the problem. Thanks! --Majora (talk) 16:23, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
