Cell Ultrastructure

This topic covers both the

movement and stability of cells and
the role of each of the various
organelles found within them. In
this area of cells more than any
other marks come not just from
recalling the roles of the organelles
but by linking their structure to
their function.

Organelles task

This Diagram shows a generalised

animal (a) and plant (b) cell along
with the key organelles. You need
to create a table to summarise
what the function of each of these
organelles is and how their
structure allows them to do this.

Staple this table to your homework

Prokaryotic cells

Prokaryotic cells are far smaller (and older) than Eukaryotic cells – a bacteria is
a good example. They have some fundamental differences to Eukaryotic cells.

In the space below produce a scientific drawing of a typical bacteria cell.

Highlight where there is a difference between this and a Eukaryotic cell.

Working together

Organelles function together to perform the tasks of the cell. The Cytoskeleton
is involved in moving materials from one organelle to another. What are the 3
component parts of the cytoskeleton?

1. .....................................................................................................................

2. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

3. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

In the table below, create a step by step guide to show how a protein would be
synthesised and released by different organelles in a cell.
