Properties of Light
Content Standard Addressed: S4P1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the
nature of light and how light interacts with objects.
ISTE Technology Standard Addressed: What would you like students to know and be
able to do by the end of this lesson:
Empowered Learner- 1.1.c. Students use
technology to seek feedback that informs and Students will be able to use the web 2.0 tool
improves their practice and demonstrates their Padlet, and the assessment tool Blooket to
learning in a variety of ways demonstrate their knowledge and understanding
of the properties of light.
What is the student learning goal(s) for this lesson idea? Students will leave two thoughtful
comments on the Padlet anyway they see fit. They will collaborate with peers and look at peer
responses to connect their knowledge. Students will then use the Blooket quiz to check their
knowledge and figure out where they might need extra help.
Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):
Students will be able to analyze and evaluate their responses on the Blooket to get a better
understanding of their strengths and problem areas when it comes to the properties of light. This
will encourage them to relook at what they might’ve missed in order to improve their score if we
play the Blooket multiple times.
How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:
X Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by
teacher direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the
student and mostly practice based.
☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic
of learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The
teacher facilitates the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.
☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems
and completing projects to demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared
outside of the classroom. (Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the
school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another
class, or publishing via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation: The students will be asked to work on the Padlet individually,
collaborating with their peers by leaving reactions or speaking directly to them about the material.

Don’t forget to delete red instructions before adding this to your Weebly.
As the teacher, I will walk around and informally assess my students by asking them to think about
certain things relating to the properties of light. I will also be approving their posts on Padlet where I
will be able to directly ask them questions on there by replying to their post. I will then be able to
assess my students again by using the Blooket quiz that I have created, seeing in real time the
concepts that students might be struggling with. This will allow me to stop and go over the problem
areas, and potentially doing the Blooket over again after reteaching the concepts.
Managing student learning: This lesson actively involves students in the learning process because it
encourages them to leave thoughtful responses on posts, as well as interacting with their peer’s
responses. They have a role in engaging with the material rather than just trying to sit and listen to
the instructor teach.
Through this lesson I will be able to implement collaboration amongst my students to act as an
informal knowledge check. Students will be encouraged to read their peers posts, as well as stopping
and talking to others around them about the material.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL): The Padlet I created offers plenty of student engagement,
allowing them to leave responses to some of the posts as well as leaving reactions. The Blooket I
used as the assessment tool also offers plenty of student engagement as they race to be the first one
who answers the questions correctly.
Reflective Practice: I believe that this lesson will allow students to explore their learning in a fun,
engaging way rather than just learning through a teacher-based lecture. Students are able to be
actively in charge of their learning and are able to pace themselves with the material presented in
the Padlet. I look forward to seeing my students posts on the Padlet and seeing how they choose to
present the information as either an audio recording or through text.
