Lesson idea implementation:
When explaining the standards I will make sure my students understand the importance of being knowledgeable on important historical figures. I will access students’ prior knowledge by opening the lesson with the question, “Do you love Girl Scout Cookies?” This question allows students to express and connect their prior knowledge to a classic cookie that people know or have even tried. I will assess student learning by using Blooket to quiz the students on what they learned throughout the lesson. Managing student learning: These tools will allow students to collaborate with one another on information that they learn throughout the lesson. This lesson allows students to work at their own pace. I will also have students check in with me after each activity to ensure the students are staying on task. I also will require students to summarize what they learned at the end of the lesson to reflect. Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This lesson allows students to express their thinking in many ways. The students have the choice to type out what they learn throughout the lesson or even draw what they have learned. This lesson also includes a video which helps students visually learn about Juliette Gordon Low. All of these allow students to express their thinking and give students the opportunity to learn in different ways. Reflective Practice: I believe this tool will help students build understanding differently because they can learn using many different platforms. They also can work at their own pace, express themselves, and connect the lesson with something that they are familiar with. I look forward to implementing the usage of the students being able to actively respond to their peers. It allows for students to have open discussions on particular topics and connects them with one another.
