Gadgets

Gadgets is an often small mechanical or electronic device with a practical use but

often thought of as a novelty (Merriam-Webster, n.d.). Gadgets helps students for their

learning, it can easily and securely take notes to store and discover them later using

applications for note taking, the ability to communicate with others using Google Apps

or a similar network, access the wealth of knowledge available online, and, among

many other uses, to use idea mapping or mind mapping software (Slavin, 2018).

Academic Performance

The concept of academic performance extends beyond the classroom to

achievement. Some of the brightest students do not earn straight as, but are incredibly

well-rounded, from music to sports, improving in all. When describing academic

success, people frequently consider grades first. This involves colleges, which rate

students by their GPA, granting special designations for those graduating first and

second in their class, such as valedictorian and salutatorian. Grades don't always

represent the expertise or intellect of an individual. In a classroom environment, some

students do not perform well, but they are very intelligent and gain high marks on IQ

tests, standardized tests or college entrance exams. Academic success can also be

demonstrated by the initiative. By acting as the student body president or holding officer

positions in student organizations such as the honor society or the club, this is how

students show their competence (Williams, 2018).

Technology can be used to enhance learning and teaching and help our students

succeed. Students can access online tools with the use of learning management

systems (LMS) to get on-demand support outside their teacher's physical scope.

Students can access instructors, tools, and assignments through the web, and those

who need to spend more time learning a concept can also help them work at their own

speed and keep up with their peers via online lessons and curriculum. Technology may

assist parents by video conferencing or other online networking platforms to be able to

meet with teachers (“How Technology Can Be Used To Enhance Practical Science”,

2019).

Gadgets and Academic Performance

New technology has substantially improved the lives of individuals across various

fields, especially in education. Nevertheless, we cannot assume that technology is all

good in itself. There is the "advantage and disadvantage" of a two-edged sword, if it's

beneficial or non-beneficial and we have to see to what degree it has actually led to

improving people's learning norm. Physical activity and socialization have been

decreased because the majority of electronic devices are used as a forum to participate

in physical and social relationships. Many kids are becoming less imaginative and less

able to amuse themselves. They gradually became centered on the important things in

such a way that they begin to lose focus (Garcia, 2020). Many of them are overwhelmed

by technology and therefore do not even perform learning assignments. They rely

heavily on technology and are utterly unable to finish even the simplest tasks on their

own. Technology's resourcefulness encourages cheating. Therefore, many students

plagiarize their works and steal ideas from other writers and students. However, since
many online resources are false, some people cannot find relevant information (Staff,

2019). Nevertheless, in addition to the internet, many electronic devices, such as

laptops, make the lives of students easier. They may make use of computers to make

presentations and also use the internet to do research for their essays and articles on a

range of topics (Garcia, 2020). Gadgets often help to accomplish any academic

challenge, and really quickly. Students gain instant access to sources of knowledge that

help to complete their assignments. Such speed and productivity inspire them greatly. In

the learning process, students become active participants and can enhance all sorts of

learning skills. It retains the cooperation of learners. This means that activities are

carried out faster and facilitates communicative and interpersonal skills (Staff, 2020).

Figure 1 describes the conceptual framework of the study wherein the input is to
investigate the use of gadgets and the academic performance of Grade 12 STEM
students in Ormoc City Senior High School. On the other side, the process being used
is to give a survey questionnaire to the participants. The output aims to determine the
relevance of gadgets to the academic performance of the students.
