Monday Music, Veterans Day Celebration info will be going home, check folders/backpacks
Tuesday Wellness
Thursday Art
Friday Music, Fall Party/Parade @ 2:30-3:30 no scary costumes, no masks or face paint - for
safety we need to see all faces, it will help if costumes can slide on over clothing, as we will have limited
use of the bathroom with all of blue Hall having the same party time, all parents are welcome, a few
parents can come early to help with party set-up & costumes, most parents will want to be out front for
the parade starting at 2:30, the party will follow our Blue Hall parade, if some parents could stay to help
our room moms with clean-up that would be much appreciated!
Can anyone send in red, white, & blue tissue paper for a Veterans Day project? We will be cutting it up,
so even leftover scraps you have sitting around home will work. Thanks!
Current Learning
Classroom Technology:
Big Universe at home: username is last name.#, password is eagles2!, and the group name is newalbany.
Moby Max. The username and password are the same and there should not be a group name. If it asks
for your school name, look for New Albany, OH and Primary School
Language Arts: In writing we continue our unit on Personal Narratives, which goes along with our Genre
Study on Realistic Fiction. In writing well focus on using specific nouns, including dialogue, and
stretching our sentences. In reading, we are focusing on Key Ideas and Details. This includes asking and
answering questions such as who, what, where, when, why and how to demonstrate understanding of key
details in a text. I call these Wonder Words. If you are reading at home with your child, give this a
try!
After reading a book or part of a book, ask your child to create a Wonder Word question for
YOU to answer. Then, you ask them a Wonder Word question. This will strengthen their
comprehension of the text they are reading.
Fundations: PLEASE make time for spelling in your nightly routine. If your child is struggling with
spelling please work together on the Fundations Packet I send home every Unit. We started the first
few lessons of unit 5. The focus of Unit 5 is on two-syllable words and how to divide between
syllables. Well also look at the spelling of ic at the end of multisyllabic words. Well add more suffixes
(ful, ment, ness, less, able, en, ish) and learn some prefixes (mis, un, non, dis, and trans). Some sample
words are: catnip, habit, tonic, mascot, hundred, freshen, and boldness. Please practice these trick
words at home: against, knew, know, always, often, once. Ive shown them some fun ways to
practice. This unit will take the next two weeks to complete.
Math: We took our Unit 2 Post-Assessment this week and started to work on using twos to make
solving problems easier. We even introduced multiplication and how it relates to addition and
arrays. These are the first basic steps in multiplication and we will continue to focus on fluency in
addition and subtraction. The kids were just thrilled that multiplication is already being learned. As we
move into Unit 3, we will focus on multi-digit addition and subtraction within 100. We will use the
number line a lot during this unit, as it builds computational fluency and helps kids move toward mental
math. I know most of us learned to stack when we add/sub, but the use of the number line will build a
great foundation for mental math, algebra, and problem solving. I thought it was odd at first too, but
Ive seen the difference it makes and it is so fun to see when a kid gets that deep understanding. Ill
continue to send practice sheets home on Fridays and finished workbook pages every few Fridays.
Social Studies/Science: We continue our Atmosphere and Weather Unit. Last week, we finished our
final stages for designing our weather tools. The kids did a great job! Most of the groups worked well
together and some other groups worked on listening to everyones ideas and making a compromise. This
is not an easy task for all kids, but it is an important success skill that theyll need in their careers. This
week we will build our weather tools!
WE NEED YOUR HELP!! Below is a list of materials that your children have requested for their
design challenge. If you have these materials at home or are willing to purchase them for this
project, please bring them in BY this Thursday, November 26th! Ask your child which group they
are in and you can see what they need!
