We hope you are all well and we wish you Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. However, before we get there, these are some of the important dates to note. Sobeys Gift Card Sales: You are all AMAZING! We are doing fantastic and a large majority of the cards are sold! We sold more than $12 000 worth of cards already! Only $3 000 left to go! Thank you to all the parents who came to Parent Teacher Interviews. It is always great to touch base with parents. It helps our students know we are all on the same team Thank you for sending money and bed sheets for the Greek Agora activity. It was SO much fun and all of the students learned a great deal. The other schools really enjoyed joining our students for this event. Christmas Gift Exchange: Our class is having their class parties on Thursday, December 20, 2012 in the afternoon. One of the activities planned for is a Christmas Gift Exchange. Each child is asked to bring a wrapped gift (valued at about $7.00), that would be appropriate for a boy or a girl. If your child is not able to participate in this activity, would you please let me know in advance so I can make other arrangements. Thank you for your consideration in this matter. Please remember to send in your familys decorated Christmas Trees for the Christmas Concert before Dec.17h Christmas Story Time/PJ Day Students are encouraged to wear warm pjs for our Christmas Story afternnoon on December 18th

Christmas Food Hampers. Each classroom in the school is taking on the responsibility of creating a food hamper that will be distributed to local family. Please ask your child which item was requested of him/her for our classroom hampers. Please have your donations to the school by December 17th. Thank-you in advance for your cooperation. Home Reading Please check and sign daily on the calendar section of your childs agenda. It is an expectation that every student is reading for 30 minutes daily Agendas Please check and sign daily and help your child bring it back daily. Homework, test and notes may appear there and it is an excellent link between parent and teacher on a daily basis. If your child misses homework, this will be writen in their agendas so you will be aware. *Any problems with homework, just a little note on the page saying your child did attempt the work and did ask for help would be very much appreciated Extra Help Mrs. Rutschke is available on Monday, Wednesday and Thursdays until 4:30p.m. for any extra help if needed. Please let her know in advance if your child will be staying after school. Please ensure your child is properly dressed for the weather. Boots, mitts, hats, snow pants and coats are necessary now that the snow here to stay. Please ensure your child has indoor shoes. Areas of Study

Social Studies 6.1 Citizens Participating in Decision Making Students will demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the dynamic relationship between governments and citizens as they engage in the democratic process I Can Statements We Are Working On This Month In Social Studies Chapter 4: Iroquois Confederacy I can demonstrate skills of historical and geographic thinking. I can explain the social structure of Iroquois society. I can explain how different groups in the Iroquois society could participate in decision making. I can explain the ideas behind the government in the Iroquois Confederacy.

Mathematics Unit 3: Decimals I Can Statements We Are Working On This Month In Math I can use place value to represent numbers less than one thousandth. I can multiply decimals by a 1-digit number. I can divide decimals by a 1-digit number. Science Unit 2: Air and Aerodynamics I can provide evidence that air takes up space and exerts pressure. I can provide evidence that air is a fluid and is capable of being compressed. I can describe and demonstrate in which air movement across a surface results in lift. I can recognize that in order for living things to fly they must have lift to overcome gravity. I can identify adaptations that enable birds and insects to fly. I can describe the means of propulsion for flying aircraft and animals. I can recognize that streamlining overcomes drag.
