HOME FOLDERS: Home Folders are in!!! We just received our shipment of Home Folders.
They are black with colorful designs on the front. Inside there is a pocket for Return to
School and a pocket for Keep at Home. We will be working on remembering to put our
papers in our folder and sharing the folder with our parents. Im going to ask the kids to
bring these to school daily and keep them in their mailboxes, so it will be nice and easy to
put in papers in. Thanks to Clark Family Dental & Shirck Orthodontics for providing these
folders for every student at our school! We have been using Yellow Folders & we will
create another use for those folders.
Language Arts: Weve been working on sentence structure and building a paragraph. We
worked on what makes a strong topic sentence and have been working on punctuation and
capitalization. Ms. Weber is completing BAS assessments. Next week we hope to
introduce Big Universe and Moby Max as useful tools for reading.
Fundations: Unit 2 is well under way. Our focus is on bonus letter spelling rules
(ff,ll,ss,zz), glues sounds (all, am, an, ang, ing, ong, ung, ank, ink, onk, unk), and the trick
words shall, pull, full, both, talk, and walk (trick words need to be practiced and
memorized they dont necessarily follow the rules, but they are common words the kids
need to know). We plan to assess next Friday.
Math: We just completed Unit 1. We will take our Unit One- Post Assessment on Monday.
As you look at the graded Assessment next week, remember that some areas are newer
content that we will continue learning about. To be considered as meeting the standard,
the score had to fall between 37-49 points out of 49 (these papers will receive a sticker).
Approaching Standard is 25-36 points. Anything below 25 points shows us that we need to
provide extra assistance to help the child understand this content. I will form small skills
groups based on this assessment that will provide opportunities for extra support with
specific areas of content. Next week we will take our Comprehensive Growth Assessment,
so that will take two days. We will take this again toward the end of the year to show
growth. We will begin Unit 2 next Friday.
Social Studies/Science: We started our Atmosphere and Weather Unit. Our Big Idea
Question was: How does the sun affect Earth? We discussed the water cycle and did a
very fun demonstration experiment to show the water cycle. Ask your child how we made
it rain and see our pictures! They were so excited!!! We started our Science Notebooks
and well continue to take notes about what we do. Next Wednesday well talk about: How
does weather change? I look forward to all the fun things well do in this unit!
