Blogging" is a Web-based form of communication that is rapidly becoming mainstream. In this paper, we report the results of an ethnographic study of blogging, focusing on blogs written by individuals or small groups, with limited audiences. We discuss motivations for blogging, the quality of social interactivity that characterized the blogs we studied, and relationships to the blogger's audience. We consider the way bloggers related to the known audience of their personal social networks as well as the wider "blogosphere" of unknown readers. We then make design recommendations for blogging software based on these findings.

The debate over the contribution of the Internet to democracy is far from settled. Some point to the empowering effects of online discussion and fund raising on recent electoral campaigns in the US to argue that the Internet will restore the public sphere. Others claim that the Internet is just a virtual mall, a final extension of global capitalism into every corner of our lives. This paper argues for the democratic thesis with some qualifications. The most important contribution of the Internet to democracy is not necessarily its effects on the electoral process but rather its ability to assemble a public around technical networks that enroll individuals scattered over wide geographical areas. Medical patients, video game players, musical performers, and many other publics have emerged on the Internet with surprising consequences.

This paper initially examines theories proposed by Feenberg about technical systems and alternative modernity, analyzes his thoughts, and concludes that a framework of values needs to be provided in shaping technical systems. In a society like Iran, where policy makers are looking for the realization of Islamic values, this framework of values is derived from Islam. To explain the relationship between religion and technology, the concept of concretization has been used up, according to which, all aspects of civilization, including technical systems must be concretized based on Islamic values. Virtual space as a part of the technical systems must be concretized with a holistic approach, based on Islamic values, and for this purpose, there is no choice but a collective social life based on religious values. The concluding section of the paper also tries to deal with another significant issue which predicts the future of concretization at the level of civilizations which will be offered using the metaphor of the 'sand desert' .

This paper reports on a year-long project in which students participated as both readers and writers of blogs. Specifically, this study examines the steps students progress through while reading and writing blogs, students' reactions to blogging, and how self-expression is characterised in the blogosphere. Data from student blogs, reports, and focus group interviews suggest that this project fostered both ownership and creativity; allowed students to experiment with language; facilitated expression in a relaxed environment; and provided students with a window into the target culture that their textbooks did not provide. Finally, we also report on questionnaires that were designed to assess students' reactions to the project. Examples from student projects are discussed.

The importance of blogs and social networking as medium of interactions had gain substantial popularity in mainstream media. Such popularity is due to blogs timely publication, ease of use and wide availability. Blogs hypertext and hyperlinks spread information and influence through an underlying social network. Taking into consideration that past studies on web design have focused on cultural traits on design elements, this paper aims to analyse the patterns on blog design from the perspectives of social influence and interactions. Examining design patterns from five networks of blogs using content analysis method, the results show that design of blogs in an online network shares similar elements and the pattern is different from one network to the other.

Philosophical questions regarding the nature of human existence have to be reimagined to fit into the digital turn in human lives. This paper presents the reconceptualising of philosophical premises to explore the topical issues defining what it means to be human in the digital age.

The Internet is a growing information and communication channel for health‐ and diet‐related issues. Keeping updated on the fruit‐ and vegetable‐related (F&V) discourses among laypeople is important for health communicators in order to promote F&V consumption through tailored health messages. The aim of the present study was to identify F&V‐related discourses in weblogs that were maintained, obviously, to influence diet. A theoretically chosen sample of weblogs were analysed applying critical discourse analysis. The analysis showed three partly overlapping F&V‐related discourses: (1) normative consumption with a focus on single nutrients and physiological mechanisms; (2) authentic consumption with a desire for naturalness; and (3) altruistic consumption where ethical responsibilities are enhanced. This study examines the emergence of place blogging as an online genre designed to foster a deeper sense of place and to share local knowledge. Focusing on a period between 2003 and 2006, it spotlights a transitional moment in web culture when the relationship between online life and offline life is undergoing an important shift. The bloggers highlighted in this study offer a ground-level view of how ordinary writers and readers participate in the transition to what Eric Gordon calls "network locality," a condition in which the experience of place is increasingly mediated by networked technologies. Because networked life creates an information-saturated environment in which place must compete with everything else for an increasingly scarce resourcehuman attention-place bloggers redefine blogging as a way to more deliberately and regularly invest attention in place. To do so, they remediate older genres to create a blogging style that differs from the political and technology blogs that were popular at the time: some draw on nature writing and diary writing (essayistic place bloggers) while others tend to draw more heavily on genres of local journalism (journalistic place bloggers). A rhetorical analysis reveals how genre remediation offers place bloggers a range of strategies for managing the flow of attention between self, place, and audience as they interact around digital objects in the network. This article demonstrates the bene t of taking an explanation-based approach in the development of features for computationally supported systems used for linguistic analysis in forensic contexts. As a focal point it considers Other Language In uence Detection (OLID) as well as its related eld of Native Language Identi cation (NLI). An explanation-based approach allows the forensic linguist to understand the implications of the presence or absence of features as they vary across the contexts and situations s/he might encounter. The authors present a qualitative framework for types of explanation and show how di erent types of explanations are needed to develop a full and rich language-in uence feature set. The authors are not advocating a strict or in exible typology of feature explanation but are seeking a richness of explanation at a variety of levels of analysis instead. This in turn can be developed into computational approaches, which the authors contend will therefore be stronger and more applicable to forensic casework contexts.

Portugal's adherence to weblogs has experienced both an explosion and a shift in nature in 2003. Indeed, the year began with less than 200 registered weblogs and ended with more than 3000. The initial close knit community, where weblogs were predominantly used for personal expression, gave way to a more heterogeneous one, with some newcomers assuming the activity in a semi-professional manner. People with a special interest in the dissemination of information were amongst this group fuelling a debate (or debates) on weblogs as a new form of journalism (unedited and participatory) and on the role of traditional media. The first national weblog meeting-which took place at Universidade do Minho-reflected such discussions further. In this paper-produced under the scope of an ongoing project of observation of media and society interaction in Portugal, Mediascópio-we will depart from an analysis of media reports and weblogs' posts to present an exploratory framework of the intersections between Portuguese journalism and weblogs and try to discuss possible symptoms of change in the perception that journalists have of their audiences.

The World Wide Web (WWW) has become one of the fastest growing electronic information sources. In the Web, people are engaging in interaction with more and more diverse information than ever before, so that the problem of information quality is more significant in the Web than any other information system, especially considering the rate of growth in the number of documents. Meanwhile new facilities for producing web pages such as Blogs make this issue more significant because Blogs have simple content management tools enabling non-experts to build easily updatable web diaries or online journals. On the other hand despite a decade of active research, information quality lacks comprehensive methodology for its assessment and improvement. Especially there is not any framework for measuring information quality on the Blogs yet. This paper establishes a survey on Iranian Blog as our case study presents results of the survey, prioritizes information quality criteria by allocating priority coefficient to all the criteria as an important prerequisite for measuring information quality in the Blogs. Also results of the research by gap analysis shows there is a solid consensus between Bloggers and visitors about the priorities of information quality criteria in the Blogs.

Creativity can be viewed, not just as a set of skills and strategies, but as an overarching metacognitive skill that integrates a range of subordinate generic skills. Key to developing creativity is to engage in a cycle of ideation, reflection and adjustment, within a feedback rich environment. Blogs have the ability to garner external comments that can prompt these processes. Case study research was undertaken to explore what forms of feedback promote metacognitive development and how those forms can best be elicited within a blog. Findings indicated that blog comments can motivate, provide information, enhance quality and promote reflection, and that a range of strategies can be applied in blogs to best obtain the most valuable forms of feedback for creative development.

In this paper, we study the problem of summarizing reasons from blogsphere for social study. We regard weblogs as a source for collecting non-discrete public opinions, where genuine reasons/aspects can be found. To extract the reason inside the blogs, we define four tasks: irrelevant blog filtering, reason/non-reason classification, polarity identification, and reason summarization. We solve the reason/non-reason classification problem by selecting a set of topic related words and brief the reasons by clustering paragraphs containing aspects after sentiment classification. Initial experiments on two topics show an encouraging result on the proposed framework.

Este artigo resulta da pesquisa-ação "A experiência de implantação do Plano diretor de Vigilância Sanitária-PDVISA-em um contexto municipal". Tem como objetivo analisar as quatro tecnologias que emergiram a partir dessa investigação, não usuais em pesquisa ou no processo de trabalho. Foram caracterizadas como tais devido a terem assumido a posição de produtos da pesquisa e de instrumentos para a coleta de informações, contribuindo para a consolidação do estudo. A primeira, denominada de Histórias da VISA real, introduziu a técnica de contar histórias baseada nas experiências vividas pelos trabalhadores. A segunda, o seminário Vigilância Sanitária, Integralidade e Mobilização Social, favoreceu a inclusão da comunidade e setor regulado em discussões sobre a integralidade e mobilização social. A terceira, o projeto VISAMAIS, buscou ações educacionais com setores da comunidade. E a quarta foi a recepção da Mostra cultural VISA e cidadania, do CECOVISA/FIOCRUZ, como uma estratégia de aproximar a comunidade das ações em VISA. Essas tecnologias infl uíram favoravelmente na transformação da realidade em VISA ao se fi rmarem na fundamentalidade da escuta das múltiplas vozes e na responsabilização dos diversos sujeitos que constituem as práticas em Vigilância Sanitária.

The present study aimed at characterizing what skilled or more proficient ESL college writing is in the Philippine setting through a contrastive analysis of three groups of variables identified from previous studies: resources, processes, and performance of ESL writers. Based on Chenoweth and Hayes' (2001; 2003) framework, the resource level variables are represented by linguistic and content knowledge, writing experience, and writing approach; the process variables are represented by proposer (idea generation), translator (idea encoding), transcriber (idea transcription), and reviser (idea revision/evaluation). Writing performance was represented by length of essay and writing fluency. Essay score, also a measure of writing performance, was used to group the writers into less proficient and more proficient writers. Means and standard deviations of the items were obtained. The internal consistencies for tests using scales were obtained using Cronbach's Alpha; for tests with right and wrong answers, Kuder Richardson #21 was used. Inter-rater agreement for essay scores was tested using Kendall's Tau coefficient of concordance. To compare the mean scores between the less proficient and more proficient writers, independent samples t-test was used. Results indicated that there are significant differences between the two proficiency groups in content knowledge, vocabulary, elaborative writing approach, school writing experience and confidence in writing, and in all the measures of text production processes. Due to methodological limitations, conclusions made in the present study are restricted to the sample under study and to the genre of writing selected (viz., argumentative essay).

The research project aims to identify , discuss and understand the learning that occurs in a 6th year math classes in a public school. Thus, it was regarded as an object of study the pedagogical practice of a math teacher , researcher and author of this thesis , and interactions with their students in a 6th year class, over a year (2009). Its central question is what learning is produced within a community of learners in mathematics and how these participants become , appropriating knowledge / practices that / this community ? This is a qualitative research , with some characteristics of ethnography. The process of data collection and documentation aimed to provide support to the interpretations and analyzes about the practices and evidence the student learning and their own community of learners. The methodological procedures were the beginning of the school year questionnaire; video recording of some classes; small stories about classes; Letter report on a class of quantities and measurements sent to a recipient to be chosen by the own student , students' productions and field journal of researcher. The main theoretical contributions are those relating to the social theory of learning in a community of practice, having as main interlocutors Ettiene Wenger and Jean Lave , which , roughly speaking , take learning as social practice. Other authors permeate the analyzes and discussions , as Felipe Matos and R. Brown , to treat the classroom as a community of practice , Barbara Rogoff , discuss the classroom as learning communities and the processes of learning and guided sharing between the subjects. The process of data analysis is the analysis of narrative , which seeks to analyze and interpret the lived narrative practices , presenting , as the final product of this process, a another narrative. The main category of analysis of this research is situated learning of learners in mathematics 6th B community considering this, were built four subcategories : participation , production and negotiation of meanings ; appropriation of knowledge / practices , and identity construction. These subcategories shouldn't be understood as autonomous or independent. Rather, they are interrelated throughout the narrative process of analysis and interpretation of learning practices , forming a set that assist the production of analyzes and interpretations of situated learning in social and human practice. The analyzes in this study showed evidence that students to work in groups , whether small or involving the whole and under the eyes of a community of learners math class , can share knowledge and practices that bring their to the social world , integrating them with school knowledge. The responsibility of the teacher in this community is essential as it is responsible for the articulation of knowledge of these young people from those produced in / by the school, and will also fit the design and choice of pedagogical practices specific to that community and textual genres. The different responsibility of the students in the 6th B apprentices and their participation in community mobilized processes of negotiation of meaning and transformation of their identities along the math classes .

Öz: Gündelik yaşamın tecrübi bilgisinin paylaşılmasında dijitalleşmeyle birlikte oldukça sık başvurulur hâle gelen araçlardan biri; moda, güzellik, kişisel gelişim, eğitim ve edebiyat gibi farklı temalar altında toplanabilecek olan web günlükleridir (weblogs/blogs). Bu günlükler içimizden birinin gündelik yaşamı nasıl deneyimlediğinin; neyi, nasıl yaptığının ve hangi konularda nasıl düşündüğünün görünür olmasını sağlamakta ancak bunları sağlamakla sınırlı kalmamaktadır. Web günlüklerinde üretilen bilgi, aynı zamanda gündeliği yeniden üretmektedir. This article presents a comparative study about the evolution of the use of blogs in Spanish regional press to analyse if the performance of blogs has changed significantly on the basis of the content and the level of updating in recent years. A first analysis was conducted in 2006 when the boom of this phenomenon. Following a new analysis in 2009, this work carries out a comparison of the evolution of the same performance parameters in both years. It can be stated that no clear evolution patterns exist, that the number of blogs has no relation with the updating of these in either of the periods (the beginning period or the establishment period) and that the main difference detected is that in 2006 more attention was paid to the personal contents that provided blogs with the indisputable character of a tool for personal expression, while in 2009 bloggers appeared to be more interested in what is local and current.

Las plataformas especializadas independientes, también conocidas como weblogs emergen como producto de una práctica social (el blogging) Estas plataformas ya no son una novedad sino más bien son una necesidad del circuito de comunicación digital especializado en moda. Los weblogs ya no se agotan en su dimensión comunicativa sino que son nudos claves del entramado que conforman la red. Actualmente a partir de su análisis podrían sistematizarse tres cuestiones fundamentales: la constante en sus rasgos estilísticos, la potencialidad como generadores de contenido de calidad para la red y su modalidad de articulación en relación al circuito al que pertenecen.

In recent years we have seen a vast increase in the volume of information published on weblog sites and also the creation of new web technologies where people discuss actual events. The need for automatic tools to organize this massive amount of information is clear, but the particular characteristics of weblogs such as shortness and overlapping vocabulary make this task difficult. In this work, we present a novel methodology to cluster weblog posts according to the topics discussed therein. This methodology is based on a generative probabilistic model in conjunction with a Self-Term Expansion methodology. We present our results which demonstrate a considerable improvement over the baseline.

Como parte de la discusion sobre la proteccion de derechos de autor en Francia, la Corte de Casacion de ese pais ha prohibido que se retire el derecho a usar la Internet mediante actos administrativos, uno de los puntos fuertes del llamado Plan Olivennes. La HADOPI, organismo disenado para este fin, ha quedado sin dientes y por lo tanto la idea misma de una agresiva proteccion de los derechohabientes pasa a ser cuestionada. Internet ha sido declarado como un derecho, lo que hace que su acceso, uso y penetraion sean considerados como prioritarios en todas las zonas del planeta.

El programa fue adaptado acorde a las nuevos modelos tecnológicos que demandan de los estudiantes de periodismo la necesidad de conocer y trabajar en el desarrollo de nuevos formatos de comunicación e información. Uno de los objetivos de la materia es que los alumnos trabajaran creando weblogs en diferentes plataformas gratuitas.

The purpose of this paper is to offer greater insight in the role of content-related factor in the continuance used of the Islamic weblogs as the source of Islamic teachings and practices. Information System (IS) continuance intention Model is being employed as a conceptual tool to re-interpret the existing evidence of the continuance used of the weblogs. Additional elements including credibility, reliability and objectivity are being included to further clarify the role of content-related factor in determining the continued used of the weblogs. The analysis demonstrated that people tend to revisit the weblogs with reliable and credible information. The paper presents the importance of content in terms of credibility, objectivity, and reliability in encouraging people to continue use the Islamic weblogs in disseminating the Islamic information and knowledge significantly influences the people’s intention to revisit the weblogs in future.

Aim/Purpose: In this research, we examined the influence of the information system (IS) quality dimensions proposed by Wixom and Todd on reading satisfaction of online newspaper readers in Bangladesh, especially the readers’ intention to revisit and recommendations through electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM). Background: We identified the top 50 most visited websites, of which 13 were online newspapers, although their ranking among Bangladesh online newspapers varies from month to month. The literature illustrates that, despite the wide availability of online news portals and the fluctuations in frequency of visits, little is known about the factors that affect the satisfaction, word-of-mouth, and frequency of visits of readers. The use of digital technologies in the school context has been seen as a means to extend the creation of stimulating learning opportunities, which can be enhanced by teamwork among teachers of different subjects. In this sense, a Literature Review is presented, developed within the scope of a PhD Thesis Project in Information and Communication Technologies in Education, to systematise the knowledge that the scientific community has been producing on the place that digital tools occupy in pedagogical practices based on collaboration between teachers, namely in the context of the design of teaching plans to monetise the use of digital technologies in the classroom. To fulfil this purpose, two research questions were defined: (1) What forms do collaborative experiences among teachers orientated towards the pedagogical integration of digital technologies take? (2) What challenges and opportunities can be seen in teacher collaboration practices oriented towards the pedagogical integration of digital technologies? The literature review process included defining research questions and objectives, selecting three scientific databases (Scopus, Web of Science and EBSCO), defining database search strategies and equations, determining inclusion and exclusion criteria, and presenting the results. The results suggest that experiences of collaboration among teachers tend to be limited to the exchange of pedagogical ideas, the sharing of teaching materials and the definition of common rules of operation. Deeper forms of collaboration, which involve more interdependence among teachers, such as teamwork, pedagogical dialogue, reflection on practice, student learning, collaborative design of teaching strategies, joint planning, providing observation-based feedback to colleagues, are less explored. The most salient difficulties in teacher collaboration practices oriented towards the pedagogical integration of digital technologies, which the reviewed literature highlights, lie in the area of pedagogical decisions involving the choice and selection of digital resources that add value to teaching and learning practices. Despite the challenges identified, collaborative working is seen as an opportunity to promote changes and improvements in educational practices. Given the scarcity of work linking collaborative practices among teachers with the planning of pedagogical strategies aimed at the integration of digital technologies in the classroom, the findings highlight the need for additional and indepth research in this specific thematic area.

Die vorliegende Arbeit ist über die Emotionalität in der Erzählung "Die Verwandlung" von Franz Kafka. In dieser Arbeit sollen die verbalen Emotionsausdrücke in "die Verwandlung" festgestellt und untersucht werden. Es wird auch eine Kategorisierung dieser verbalen Ausdrücke beabsichtigt. Das Hauptanliegen dieser Arbeit ist zuerst festzustellen, ob es in dieser Erzählung verbale Emotionsausdrücke vorhanden sind, wenn ja, dann wie und in welcher Art diese Ausrücke darin zu sehen sind. Also wie sind die Emotionen versprachlicht worden? Dann ist es festzustellen, welche Emotionen in dieser Erzählung besonders vorkommen. Und zuletzt werden die festgestellten Ausdrücke der Emotion kategorisiert und klassifiziert. Diese Arbeit besteht aus zwei Teilen. Am Anfang dieser Arbeit wird eine allgemeine Definition der Emotion als theoretischer Teil der Arbeit beabsichtigt. In diesem theoretischen Teil wird eine Untersuchung der Emotionen als verbale Äußerungen gemacht. Zugleich ist auch der gegenwärtige Forschungsstand zu erwähnen. Dabei sind auch die Phänomene der Kodierung emotionaler Zustände zu erklären. Am Ende der Arbeit soll, wie erhofft, ein klares Bild der Emotionalität in der Erzählung "die Verwandlung" erhalten werden. Diese Arbeit wird in der deskriptiv-analytischen Methode verlaufen. Çalışmada, söz konusu eserde duygu ifadelerinin olup olmadığı, varsa bu ifadelerin nasıl ve ne şekilde ortaya çıktığının belirlenerek incelenmesi, ayrıca söz konusu duygu ifadelerinin sınıflandırılması amaçlanmıştır. Bu çalışma iki bölümden oluşmaktadır. Çalışmanın ilk bölümünü oluşturan kuramsal kısımda, duygusallığın tanımından yola çıkılarak konunun detayları ortaya konmuştur. Bu bölümde duygu kavramı dilsel açıdan ele alınmıştır. Çalışmanın uygulama bölümünde, Franz Kafka'nın "Dönüşüm" adlı eserindeki duygusallık ifadeleri belirlenerek incelenmiş, pozitif ve negatif duygular bağlamında sınıflandırılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular eserdeki duygu yoğunluğu açısından değerlendirilmiştir.

While blogs are not yet a standard public relations tool, practitioners use blogs to enhance their power within their organizations. Using an online survey of public relations practitioners, this pilot test examined the relationship between power and blog use. Three factored categorizations of blog use among practitioners emerged: routine information and research, interactive blog communication, and issues identification. Results showed differences based on power, between blog users and non-users, owner-practitioners and non-owners, among others.

Los alumnos diseñan y utilizan weblogs (bitácoras) como diarios de aprendizaje en donde registran la experiencia con la asignatura, como una conversación informal expresan sus pensamientos, sentimientos y conexiones con otras disciplinas. En este artículo se analiza primeramente las posibilidades de uso de las weblogs en la enseñanza para abordar seguidamente el análisis de la experiencia en la que se percibe que se están transformando en un espacio altamente significativo para que los alumnos (futuros maestros) se sientan partícipes de la red y aporten a ella los conocimientos que van construyendo, aunque se visualiza al mismo tiempo una cierta "incomodidad" por sentirse observados en el ciberespacio.

The research project aims to identify , discuss and understand the learning that occurs in a 6th year math classes in a public school. Thus, it was regarded as an object of study the pedagogical practice of a math teacher , researcher and author of this thesis , and interactions with their students in a 6th year class, over a year (2009). Its central question is what learning is produced within a community of learners in mathematics and how these participants become , appropriating knowledge / practices that / this community ? This is a qualitative research , with some characteristics of ethnography. The process of data collection and documentation aimed to provide support to the interpretations and analyzes about the practices and evidence the student learning and their own community of learners. The methodological procedures were the beginning of the school year questionnaire; video recording of some classes; small stories about classes; Letter report on a class of quantities and measurements sent to a recipient to be chosen by the own student , students' productions and field journal of researcher. The main theoretical contributions are those relating to the social theory of learning in a community of practice, having as main interlocutors Ettiene Wenger and Jean Lave , which , roughly speaking , take learning as social practice. Other authors permeate the analyzes and discussions , as Felipe Matos and R. Brown , to treat the classroom as a community of practice , Barbara Rogoff , discuss the classroom as learning communities and the processes of learning and guided sharing between the subjects. The process of data analysis is the analysis of narrative , which seeks to analyze and interpret the lived narrative practices , presenting , as the final product of this process, a another narrative. The main category of analysis of this research is situated learning of learners in mathematics 6th B community considering this, were built four subcategories : participation , production and negotiation of meanings ; appropriation of knowledge / practices , and identity construction. These subcategories shouldn't be understood as autonomous or independent. Rather, they are interrelated throughout the narrative process of analysis and interpretation of learning practices , forming a set that assist the production of analyzes and interpretations of situated learning in social and human practice. The analyzes in this study showed evidence that students to work in groups , whether small or involving the whole and under the eyes of a community of learners math class , can share knowledge and practices that bring their to the social world , integrating them with school knowledge. The responsibility of the teacher in this community is essential as it is responsible for the articulation of knowledge of these young people from those produced in / by the school, and will also fit the design and choice of pedagogical practices specific to that community and textual genres. The different responsibility of the students in the 6th B apprentices and their participation in community mobilized processes of negotiation of meaning and transformation of their identities along the math classes .
