Craft room bar stool makeover

This post contains Amazon affiliate links. It does not cost you to click through but if you make  a purchase from my link, I may earn a small commission.   I hinted a few weeks ago that my hubby built a new craft table for me and I'm redoing my craft room/office. I'm not yet ready to reveal the table because we assembled it in place in the room and I've got to finish the rest of the room before taking photos.   I can share my new stool that I redid to go with the table. The table is counter height so I needed a bar stool for the times I want to sit and work.     I picked up one in good shape at a local thrift shop. Here's the before:   It was still in good shape as is, but I wanted something fun and bright to go with my table.  So I cleaned it, painted it with some left over paint from the table project, and then put a new seat on it. The paint was a flat interior. The Home Depot associate recommended that I go w...

9 Painted furniture transformations

The hubby and I are currently working on updating a couple of pieces of furniture with paint. You can probably guess from my round up here that one is an old dresser. I've learned that painting is a practice in patience. I'm ready to be done, and we're down to some touch ups and top coats but there are things that you can't control sometimes. So... until I complete my own, here are 9 ideas for transforming furniture with paint.   via Power of Paint     Yellow dresser     Green painted dresser     Red dresser       Two colors of blue     Grey with white lines     Distressed white dresser Desk makeover     Side table makeover

DIY Succulent gardens

It seems like everyone has jumped on a bandwagon with succulents and terrariums recently and I don't like to do the same thing everyone else is doing, but I did. I made  some succulent gardens. But just for the record, this is something I have had on my mental to do list since last year.

Easy patriotic jar centerpiece

You may have noticed the centerpiece in my patriotic star applique placemat post. It's an easy one to do. All you need is some mason jars or jars of any kind. These are probably empty pickle or spaghetti jars. In addition to the jars you need: sand ( I used the decorative kind from Michael's) acrylic jewel accent stones ( Michael's) (These have been used in Christmas and Valentine's decor so they were worth the investment.) candles- I'm using led tealights mini flags mini star wired garland dowels Fill jars partly with sand and top with jewel stones. Wrap star garland around your dowel. Stick dowel and flag in jar. The third jar was made with tissue paper and Mod Podge. Apply strips of paper to the inside of jar. Add a flag and a candle. This looks cool lit up. I told you it was easy! What easy and quick centerpiece ideas do you have? I'd love to hear about them in the comments. Sharing here: Think Pink S...

Upcycled serving tray

After a lengthy search in all the thrift shops, I found a wooden serving tray in need of much love and attention. It was pretty dirty and needed cleaning and repainting. Here is the tray I found. Here is my after: I painted it with several coats of lime acrylic craft paint from Joann's. I lined the inside with fabric. I used a spray adhesive to attach the fabric. My initial thought was to use scrapbook paper, but it would not have been long enough and would have required two pieces. I wanted it to be seamless, so I turned to my fabric stash. I think the black and white goes nicely with my dark furniture and the green gives a nice pop of spring color. Now I just need to put it in use and style a nice little vignette with it. I'll be sharing my tray here: Think Pink Sundays ** Under the Table and Dreaming * Sundae Scoop * Creative Bloggers Party and Hop * Craftomaniac Monday * Make the Scene Monday * Making the World Cuter * Just Something I Whipped Up...

Must Do Monday- 5 ways to refashion a man's dress shirt

There are a ton of ways to refashion a man's dress shirt into something cute for us ladies. Today I'm going to focus on some top refashions that I'd like to try. (We'll look at skirts during another week.)

Tshirt bracelet

While making my tshirt scarf and necklaces , I was hit with the inspiration to make something else with the leftover part of the shirt. The sleeves and the top is leftover when you make the scarf or necklace.

Tried it out Thursday- Summer tshirt scarves

If you are looking for a quick and easy no sew scarf, these are the ones for you. I could not believe how quickly this came together. I love instant gratification!! I have  a stash of tshirts purchased at Michael's for $2.00 a piece on sale. I've had the shirts for several months and I can't believe I put this off. This was so much fun. I tried out two of the three tutorials from thediydish . I started with the rolled strips/loops scarf ( I just made up that name for it, ha!).  I used two shirts in contrasting colors.

Necktie necklace

I've seen a couple of versions of the necktie necklace around, but the inspiration for this one came from Sewstylish Spring 2011 issue. I made mine loosely based on the instructions in the article, but changed a couple of things. I made a different flower and did not add a string of pearls to the ruffle like the one in the article.

Ann Taylor Loft inspired bow cuff bracelet

Last week I was browsing around Ann Taylor loft for jewelry and fashion inspiration. I saw this cuff bracelet . In case no one has noticed, I'm into big chunky jewelry right now. It's not a bad price, but I still thought that I could make one for less and that it would be fun to do also. So I did. Here's my version: Mine does not have rhinestones. And to tell you the truth, I didn't notice the rhinestones in the Ann Taylor loft version to begin with. I'm not a good tutorial writer, but I did take a few pictures of the steps and will try to explain. I ordered a 2-inch aluminum cuff blank from here. I got a 99-cent fake leather belt from the Good Will. (I'd say this is a fabulous upcycle for this belt.) You'll also need some black felt. It was already in my stash, along with Beadalon medium curb silver plated chain. I cut off a portion of the belt and glued it to the cuff blank with Fabri-Tac adhesive. Cut it a little wider and fold the edges to the i...
