Thrifty St. Patrick's Day Tablescape

I have never set a St. Patrick's Day tablescape before, but I managed to pull one together for this year on a low budget. I had many items on hand and managed to find some cute things at the thrift store and Dollar Tree, along with 50% off Michael's items. The fun green glasses were a thrift store find at 79 cents each. I already had the jute napkin rings and found some green napkins for less than a dollar a piece at another thrift store. I picked up some stems for 50% off at Michael's to add to the arrangements. I already had the burlap wrapped jars and some faux flowers on hand.   If you've been following my St. Patrick's Day posts , you know I picked up $7 worth of items at the Dollar Tree to make a wreath and had leftovers. The remainder of the hats made cute little place setting decorations. The wood slice was already on the table as part of the winter tablescape , so I left it out as I imagine leprechauns as woodsy type fellow...

Thrift store bottles to reed diffusers

Occassionally the house just gets to smelling yucky! There is only so much human, dog and food smell you can take before you want something fresher and cleaner smelling. This was the case for us recently and my hubby had discovered reed diffusers through a coworker. So we went to Pier One and purchased a couple. They are a bit pricey and one isn't enough for our large open floor plan. However, they do sell the refill oils and additional reeds, so I decided to search the thrift store for a unique bottle that would work to make my own with the refills and reeds. Luck was on my side and I found these with narrow openings. I've read that the narrow opening will make your oil and scent last longer as less can escape through the smaller opening.   A slightly more artistic shot: Obviously the before shots are before I washed them. A good cleaning and they were ready for adding a little decorative touch and some oil and reeds. I pulled out my stash of beads and jute an...

WIWW- Emerald velvet and leopard

Jacket- thrifted; shirt- JCPenney jeans- Levis shoes- DSW; clutch- Forever21   I wore this Saturday night to our little "red carpet" event. My hubby did some prop and makeup work for our younger friend who is an aspiring film producer. He has gotten connected with a local film council and has been making "no budget" films. My hubby ended up with an acting role in the movie as well and Saturday was the premier. It was lots of fun. But this was as glamorous as I got for the event because it was too cold for anything else.   Linking up with WIWW .

Thrifty Thanksgiving tablescape

I finally got the table set for Thanksgiving. I had great plans to make some placemats and utensil holders but it hasn't happened and I'm so far behind on Christmas that it probably won't. However, I recently picked up some items at the thrift store that were perfect for a Thanksgiving tablescape.

Spray painted pilgrims

Just a quick little post to share a paint transformation with you. I can't really call it a craft. All I had to do was spray a couple of coats of paint and I had updated Thanksgiving decor. I found this pair of pilgrims at my local thrift store. I thought they would be a neat addition to my fall/Thanksgiving decor but I wasn't crazy about the color.   I wanted a richer, warmer color, but something still earthy and natural looking. I went for Rustoleum oil rubbed bronze, the same paint I used on my thrift store birdcage . I'm very happy with the results and this couple now has a place on my Thanksgiving tablescape.           Linking up here:   Think Pink Sundays * Under the Table and Dreaming * Sundae Scoop * Suburb’s Mama Sunday link * DIY Sunday Showcase * Craftomaniac Monday * Make the Scene Monday * Masterpiece Monday * Motivate Me Monday * Market Yourself Mondays at Sumo’s Sweet Stuff * Pink Hippo Party * More T...

Thrift store necklace makeover

I picked up this necklace at one of our local thrift stores for $4.50 and I wasn't crazy about the worn leather strap or the large white pendant, but loved the colors of the beads because it they were just what I was looking for to go with a new outfit. I wanted a shorter necklace and the large pendant was just too much. So... what to do? I took out my jewelry pliers, some chain, jump rings, and found a smaller bead in a complimentary color in my stash. I threaded the bead on a  head pin to create a new pendant and attached it with a jump ring. I attached the chain to each side with jump rings and had a new necklace! Thanks for stopping by.
