Sunday is my 2 month Gotchaversary and Momma says there will be a party and decorations! The decorations will be white and it will be outside on the ground. Doesn't sound very festive to me but Momma is excited. Inside, we are going to spend the day together on the couch eating snackies & watching movies. Momma will be stitching, I'll be making biscuits or sleeping and Sissy will be running around like the cray-cray calico gal that she is. Party on dudes!
Feline Friday is hosted every friday and HELP for Hexie-aholics is hosted on the 17th of each month. We hope you'll join us!

Wednesday Weather Report #205 - 4/21/21
We had a slight change in the weather today...it's just temporary tho!! 60s and 70s are back in the forecast for the next couple of weeks so I'm enjoying the snow while I can.
Oh and might I add a Merry Christmas to the mix!
This plant has another flower about to open and the white cactus has a few buds just starting. The red cactus is working on new leaves and the orange cactus is still getting used to its new home and not doing much of anything. I don't think I've ever had blossoms this late in the year - usually late/November, December and January/February. Last fall was an early start with blossoms for election day and it looks like I'll still have flowers in May.
Despite appearances, I did have a wonderful walk this morning. I did laugh, tho, when Zorro refused to go outside but I was pleased as punch to do so. It was the perfect temperature to get some exercise and the snow was pretty. I made it home just as the sidewalks got slippery. The only issue was not being able to see through my wet glasses.

Wednesday Weather Report #156 - 5/13/20
This looks like a lovely day for a silo fire last Thursday, no? The sun was warm on our shoulders until a cold, windy front brought in some rain.
Saturday morning, I had to fill up my gas tank. It was the first time in 5 weeks so I wasn't complaining but it was a bonus to find such a low price - this gas station is 5cents cheaper on Saturdays if you pay in cash. I can't remember the last time I saw prices so low. NY is notorious for it's gas taxes so yours is probably lower - what are you paying?
If you think those skies behind the gas station sign look ominous, you would be right - take a look at what followed in few short hours:
We've seen this kind of non-accumulating snow several times in the last week, but only last night did it finish with such a pretty show. Not the most amazing sunset but to go from something similar to the snow above to clearing, golden skies in just minutes was amazing to watch.
I'm hoping that Janet or Barbara can confirm that this next picture is hoarfrost. I've never seen it in person but I saw it in several places this morning when it was a brisk 26F for my walk. I'm hoping all y'all can zoom in on this cuz it is really cool looking. The little spikes were fragile to the touch.
I hope you enjoyed this little trip through the last dregs of winter. We are heading into the 60s and 70s in the next couple of weeks so I am thinking that the snow will now leave us until next fall.

Thursday Weather Report #154 - 4/30/20
So...it's Thursday and not Wednesday. I didn't remember to take a picture of my Wednesday Weather on a Wednesday. Again. I know lockdown is for our own protection but I am so discombobulated on so many levels with all the new regulations as well as working at home some days and in the office others. Oi!
On the bright side - I did get to sleep with the window open last night. Woot!!! I would love to say we are on a weather upswing but it's rainy and gray today so I guess yesterday's 65F was just a peek at what is to come.
The church on my block has held a May Day Breakfast for a long time. In fact, this year would have been the 127th Breakfast!! Side note: My house is only one year older than the Breakfast! But, alas, the Breakfast is another casualty of lock down. Luckily, tomorrow is a work at home day and I plan to make my own fancy breakfast while I enjoy the flowers that have been promised with today's showers. Hardy-har-har. I acctualy will enjoy the single mini-daffodil that has popped near the snowdrops. Except ... I didn't plant any daffodils?!

Wednesday Weather Report #153 - 4/22/20
The highlight of my week, other than buying a new charging cable for my iPhone, has been the snow! Week 6 of lockdown appears to be a new low when these things are the highlights....

FF & WWR #152 - 4/17/20
Momma is all out of whack this week. We're both a bit off schedule with her being home more and a recent shift in the weather. Thanks to lockdown, Momma is able to work from home a day or 2 each week (which means carry work back and forth to the office) and she has no night meetings. Things are getting accomplished but they aren't, if you know what I mean, while we all "wait". We both have a touch of the cabin crazies given that it has also snowed three times this week. Momma finds the pretty flakes soothing but it's cutting into my 'hood wanderings.
She's also made a few of these masks, including several for herself to coordinate with different work outfits. Don't forget to ignore the overdue haircut!
Momma - I see you scraping the car windshield again but I'm not sure why the lawn hasn't been mowed and the flower bed cleared out yet? The neighbors all mowed last week before it snowed 3 times!

Momma did a little (?) trimming last weekend on her red/white shooflies. It made her do something called "day drinking." I have no idea what that is...

Hey Momma - can you shovel a little faster?!
My food bowl is empty and I'm beginning to feel a little weak.
I think I'll just sit down for a while until you come feed me again...

Everything Day!!!
It's hard to know where to start today - so many things to share - and there are lots of pictures so I'll just make a photo roll to share everything. Enjoy!!
Several of the trees in the village where I work have been yarn bombed. They are all adorable but this snowman shows the snow storm that arrived yesterday, just in time for my birthday. Woot! |
"My" highway guys took me out for breakfast this morning! |
There was even cake! Thankfully it was only 1 candle when this is one of the bigger "9" birthdays. |
But wait - later there was more cake from another coworker! |
Have you ever seen a Birthday cactus? This also blossomed for Halloween |
It's been a while since I posted anything for HeLP but I have been making progress on my Underground Rail Road blocks for hexie club. This is birds in the air. |
In this basket is nearly 40 shoofly blocks waiting to be pressed and trimmed with my bloc loc ruler. In the back you can see 2 very important items for any quilting space. Which 2 would you pick? |
And what fun is time in the quilt lab if the Quality Control Officer is not there sleeping on the job in his very own quilt lined plastic bin? |
And now it's your turn to share...do you have a furry friend to share for Feliine Friday? Or maybe you have a hexie project to share for HeLP?
Have an excellent weekend! It's sunny and cold here, the ground is covered in snow, my little old man is on the mend and I can't ask for much more...

Wednesday Weather Report #138 - 1/8/20
I'm sure you won't be one iota surprised when I mention the weird weather we are having...
We are currently under a weather advisory in effect from 10pm last night to 6pm tonight with up to 8 inches of snow. So far it's only been about 2 inches and the skies were sunny and blue until I walked in to Walgreens during my lunch. Then it quickly switched to overcast, snowing and blowing at a pretty good clip before I could walk back out of the store. I often think the weather advisories are more like crying wolf because the weather is rarely what they predicted. But, just in case we are stranded, I stocked up on the after-Christmas choco sales!!
And in the end it doesn't matter because Saturday is looking at a high of 57F. Yes, my friends, we will be just 3 degrees shy of 60F (yellow) in the middle of January. We can't even call it a January Thaw because we haven't had time to accumulate or freeze anything yet this winter. I think a yellow day would add interest to this year's weather quilt but I really prefer cold and snow during the winter months. I particularly look forward to snow on a measly two days a year. The first has passed and it was NOT a white Christmas (didn't even need a coat) so I am still praying for snow on my birthday. That day is just around the corner but with rain and temps in the 40s between now and then, sadly, I won't be holding my breath.
Starting the year with a purple (hard to tell from the photo) was a nice touch. Any time now I'll get my act together and get 2019 off the design wall and basted onto a black background. I just need to decide what backing I'm using first. It's not like I don't have options for the backing, it's picking which of the many options I want to commit to...
Oh and look what I found in the Walmart fishing aisle! I now have a dedicated weather box that I can latch closed and don't have to worry about the weather getting scattered all over the floor. Sorry - couldn't resist! I've since topped off 9 of the piles (don't expect I'll need many more 90s/maroon or below zeros/white than I already have) and this layout is much easier to grab the color of the day. It's the little things that make a crazy hexie person happy :)

Wednesday Weather Report #13512/18/19
One of these days I am going to remember to not leave things to do until later. Later can be in an hour or tomorrow morning. And that's because plans change - especially when the ambulance siren goes off at o-dark-thirty and when you get home there is only time to shovel part of the driveway and clear the car before a shower and heading to work.
So, now you know why I am behind on my hexies. I thought I would finish it this morning. I nearly finished it at lunch but I'm a paper short so that will be finished tonight.
And I swear my car was cleared off not 10 minutes before this selfie was snapped. It was a lovely, light, fluffy snow so easy to clean up both times. I met a "new" neighbor on the rescue call and another new neighbor while shoveling. It was a good morning!

Wednesday Weather Report #134 - 12/11/19
Zorro was sooo pleased that I had some couch time last night that he just had to snuggle in himself.
The photo is awful since my beloved Ott light totally blew out the pic but the adoration was too good to not share.
This morning I tried for a better shot in the fresh snow.
This photobomb represents his paw of DISapproval on the snow. He didn't growl or hiss, like normal, but 30 seconds to look over his 'hood was enough before he went back inside to hold the ornament boxes hostage again.
Hexie Club always does a mug rug swap for our Christmas in December Party. We also have a Christmas in July Party but no mug rug swap. Hahahaha. Maybe we should fix that...
I don't seem to have a photo on my phone of the "penny rug' style rug that I won but it was impressive with all that buttonhole stitching.
I made this hot air balloon. I have more cloud fabric but if I make another I'll use a better basket fabric.
This is from a couple weeks ago... Apparently if the temperature is just right, you can see the insulation pattern under my cars hood. One of my coworkers is a mechanic and he's never seen this before, nor have I, but my car did it two days in a row in different weather situations. I'm looking forward to seeing if it happens again.
For it to happen again, tho, we will need some snow. Once again we have been issued a winter weather advisory for today but it's currently full sun and blue skies and we only have about .5" of the 7" predicted. Enough with the crying wolf and issuing advisories for every single snow flake and lets stick to only notifications for extreme weather. That's my 2 cents and I'm sticking to it!

Wednesday Weather Report #133 - 12/4/19
November 27 - 30, 2019 :: 57 - 34 - 28 - 28 F December 1 - 3, 2019 :: 32 - 30 - 31 F |
It was encouraging to start December with a few inches of snow!! We won't discuss the ice under the snow from Sunday, just the snow!! It was heavy and wet and accumulated on top of everything making for beautiful pictures. Luckily not too many trees were damaged.
After work Monday - I love how the neighbor's Christmas lights lit up the trees when it was otherwise so dark. |
I woke from a creepy dream Tuesday at 4:30am and looked out the front window to a view of shear beauty that I just couldn't get a decent photo of: jet black sky filled with stars and the street lights lighting up the snow laden trees.
Across from my office Tuesday morning |
The Masonic Temple |
North Main Street, Perry, NY |
We are now getting Winter Weather Advisories for another 5-9 inches today. Since when is normal winter weather a reason for advisories? A simple heads up is nice but not email after email after text after weather app alert.

Wednesday Weather Report #130 - 11/13/19
Thanks to the cold weather, I've had some extra snoopervision lately. I'm not so sure he's been checking on the quality of my work as gaining (stealing?!) warmth from being in my lap =^..^=
November 6 - 12, 2019 42 - 31 - 26 - 35 - 42 - 29 - 20 F |
We were soooooo close yesterday to adding a third new/colder color (violet) in just 12 days. I'm sure it'll happen soon enough and then I'll wish it would go away. We had a decent amount of snow on Monday but we didn't break any local snow records whereas there were several neighboring towns/cities that did get ~10", which broke records. Thew snow is still fresh and white, meaning I'm enjoying it. I won't have the same response in a month or so...

Feline Friday - 11/8/19
No feline in their right mind would take a selfie of themselves with the first snow of the season and send it to their furreinds.
Therefore I needed to steal the selfie Momma took yesterday to send to her friends. I will tell you that it was a very purrrty day yesterday but today is the first dark purple day of the season and it was too cold (26F) to stay out so I'm inside where it's warm, sleeping on Momma's stuff.
Clearly Momma hasn't used her Bernina in a while despite the project piles with newly cut fabrics.
She threatened to move the piles so I couldn't play Where's Waldo? any more but it hasn't happened just yet...altho she needs to make some bizarre items this weekend...

Wednesday Weather Report #127 - 10/23/19
Yesterday was an odd day for me. I really needed to check my post office box which meant I needed to get to the post office by 5:45 when the lobby closes. I actually left work on time and was then home by 5:30 with no meetings to go to. That meant 5 hours to do what I wanted at home. Double Woot!
First chore was cleaning up the quilt lab and unpacking my trunk show. The lab is better than it was before but not perfect. Of course it has never been perfect and never will be :^)
Next up was catching up on my temp quilt. I had to add yesterday's elongated hexie to the week but I also had to attach the weeks for the last 2 months. It's been a busy school tax season, what can I say?
Too me, the best comparison is as follows: 2018 on the left and 2019 on the right. I know the black makes a difference but the 2018 winter reads more blue (30s) and the 2018 summer reads more orange/red (70/80s) to me while the 2019 seasons were pretty mixed color wise. Or you can also use the technical term of "all over the place." Not to rush things but ... I can't wait to have a third year to compare!!!
Most of yesterday was an overcast rainy day until I got home and then the sun came out. I'm not sure if it was the reflection of actual sun beams on the yellow leaves or the fall angle of the sun or whatever but the "yard" appeared really yellow. IRL the sky was darker and the leaves were brighter but I couldn't get the camera to capture that difference properly. I always struggle with sun/sky pictures - wish I could figure it out. Even my editing software couldn't perfect the photo.

I wish I had the live feature turned on as Z's jog across the leaves was just adorable. Guess what I'll be doing this weekend? Yipp - raking leaves...oh joy!
