Feline Friday - 3/15/19

Your eyes are not deceiving you - this is a very late post. Momma took the pictures yesterday and today but she's just now getting time to play online. I think Momma is about to come home and collapse on the couch after 2 late night rescue calls and a long day at work. I might consider snuggling but only if it starts raining...

Yesterday we had some visitors to the yard! A year ago Momma saw her first ever Cedar Waxwing clinging to the window screen in one of the living room windows. Yesterday Momma saw 30 Cedar Waxwings feasting on the berries from her ornamental pear tree. It was fascinating for us to watch and I promised not to catch any. It was an easy promise to keep because I have yet to be able to climb that high in the pear tree.

Momma and me on the porch this morning.
It's been 2 lovely days of weather but ti's back to winter this weekend.

We were hoping the Waxwings would be back today but it looks like they cleaned out the tree and have moved on to another yard. Here's hoping they will be back again next year!

PS - Happy National Quilt Day tomorrow!

Feline Friday - 3/9/18

Momma was kinda grumpy this morning...

I was trying to get her up early and she was trying to ignore me. I was doing my bestest to scratch the furniture and knock things over. She assumed that I wanted breakfast so that was the first thing she did when she finally dragged herself out of her cozy bed. It wasn't what I wanted but I ate it anyway. I would hate for my crunchies to go bad...

Eventually Momma figured out that I wanted her to change the battery in the thermostat. It was deader than the last mouse that I brought home for Momma and our grand old parsonage was a bit nippy, even with my luxurious black and white furs coat.

Don't worry - Momma tucked me in and I was all warm and cozy to wait for birdievision to start again after Momma filled the feeders.

It's nice having staff, even when they don't always catch on right away.

Design Wall Monday - 8/4/14

Thanks to a Friday off work I was able to get enough of my quilt quilted for next week's county fair that I could attach the binding and take it with me over the weekend.

My quality control officer was always ready to lend a paw while I was quilting the black squares.

Between duties at the golf tournament on Saturday, some leisure time enjoying the music at the Pioneer Picnic Sunday and a Lord of the Rings marathon, I have all but part of one (short) side bound!!

Of course, I stalled quilting this quilt. I didn't want to "ruin" the quilt but finally it was do or die. And don't you know I had the border done in 90 minutes. Good Grief - what was I stalling for? Can you make out the feathers?

I still want to add a simple quilting design to the outer black border and I have no idea if or what I will add to the sashing. All the major seams were ditch stitched so the quilt is stable if I run out of time to keep adding more...

Cya back here tomorrow for The Bibliophile Files!!

Design Wall Monday - 7/7/14

I finally started quilting my chosen quilt for this summers county fair and with just 32 days left I guess I'm just in time.

I left it on the sewing machine table over night and it appears that someone used it for a bed last night.

I'm sure we don't have a Goldilocks in the house so the question of the day becomes...was it Poppa Bear?

or Momma Bear?

or maybe Baby Bear?

Feline Friday - 4/12/13

Look - another gold birdie!

Yipper, It's still raining and yes, we are still watching birdievision. What else is a tabby to do in the rain?

It would probably be more fun if Momma filled the feeders again but those gold birdies are super hungry and we know it's hard to keep up.

Anyways...we wanted to share something with you that Momma has been watching:

She gets a good laugh out of it everyday and we think you might too!

What have you been watching lately?

Feline Friday - 3/29/13

Hi!

Pepper here.

I heard Momma say that today is Good Friday and I thought that it was as Good a Friday as any to talk about proper birdiewatching protocol.

The goldfinches are turning gold again!!
This is my fat chunky sissy, Squeaky, she used to be a feral feline so I just don't understand how she knows nothing about watching birdies. She runs up to the viewing area, jumps on the ottoman, talks to the birds and then wonders why they fly away. (On the other hand, she is very stealthy at squirrelvision - go figure!)

Anyway...enough about her.

The best viewing is to be low to the ottoman with eyes level to the window casing while waiting for birdies to arrive.

Once there are birdies, it is imperative to lower the ears. Ears scare birdies.

If the birdies appear comfortable, you can raise your head and get closer to the window but the ears must stay lowered.

Trust me - this works! Have a Good Friday! And a Hoppy Easter! And a good Passover!

Feline Friday - 3/22/13

(Momma apologizes for the dark pictures - it was bright out from the snow but dark inside and hard to focus her pocket camera.)

We're getting more snow today...

...which makes for great birdievision! It's mostly goldfinches (getting their color back!) but we also noticed another bird. We think it's the chipping sparrow but it's awfully early. Momma writes down the date seasonal birds arrive in her NYS birdbook and chipping sparrows don't normally arrive until mid-April. We'll keep an eye out and try to confirm who the bird is. This is him...

Sometimes we are stuck in commercial break:

but then they come back and fight over the 5 feeders Momma has. Maybe she needs more?

The family that watches birdievision together stays together. LOL!

Design Wall Monday - 12/31/12

Here it is...the last day of the year!! I wish you all a very Happy New Year's tomorrow!!!

My sewing date was cancelled yesterday so I decided to work on my birdievision quilt. Most of the bits were cut and piled on the cutting table and putting it together has eliminated most of a pile. Wootwoot!

This morning my little QCO helped hold down the quilt for a photo.

I obviously still need to add the black borders to the sides. I know the quilt police prefer to put the sides on and then top/bottom, but this way I didn't have to piece the top/bottom pieces thanks to the wider batik fabric. I love that the black also has the red and grey in it to pull all the colors together.

I now just have to decide how wide I want the grey border with black cornerstone. I had originally thought to do 4" finished but the center blocks are 5" finished so I am also considering that. The cornerstone shown is a leftover 5".

Design Wall Monday - 11/26/12

I was so excited for the sun to come out and get some pictures this morning but then I had to create some shadows so it wasn't all washed out (and that made the chickadee fabric upside down - sorry). I know, I ask too much. And now I suffer as we are back to grey skies. At least we got a little snow over the weekend!!!

I picked up the black batik on Black Friday as well as a dark grey batik I'll be using for the outer border. I think 1 more strip set and I should be able to get this center part finished. Then there will be a narrow black border of the same black (which incorporates all the other batik colors - a great find) and then a grey border with black cornerstones. It's not a real big quilt but I hope to make it my camping quilt so it's big enough.

I had this quilt on the floor over night and maybe a couple pieces were moved from 12 little feet walking over them but then I took my shower this morning and came downstairs to this:

I am 99.9% sure it's from Squeaky as she loves to take a running leap with a twist - I guess you could call it her signature move.

Did you notice????

I now have a yardsale tab on my blog - I'm trying to move out some things that I mostly have never used. Rulers are posted and I have started on books. Patterns will be next. Who knows what will come after that...
