Serai or lemongrass that i planted 4 months ago have become so lush! I think this is the only vegetable that grows so well without much attention, no pest attack and happy under any condition!
Once in a while i will bring knife to cut one or two of them. Nevertheless they grow happily!

This is in my to-plant list in 2011! - Although i'm not very sure how to use it in the kitchen. How good if you're my neighbour so i can get some from you to grow haha.
ReplyDeleteNo fuss plant but I've tried a few times to grow them..no luck! After a few strand of leaves, they just withered and died..:( Maybe its the soil..Must try again this year!
ReplyDeleteI'm growing lemon grass here in Japan too... they seem to be doing very well... but their fragrance is not as good as those in Msia... perhaps I should post a blog on this plant in the future...
ReplyDeleteWhat is easy for you may not be easy for others.. My lemon grass is very bushy now. But it didn't start of well. I transferred it several times to get it right.
ReplyDeleteYour lemon grass really look rush. It grows well here in Adelaide even in clay soil. But when cuaca sejuk dia tidur ZZZZ..... no growth.
ReplyDeletep3chandan: i encountered the same problem. according to my dad, serai is a greedy feeder. might be the soil is not fertile enough. i put organic fertilizer to my serai and they are doing allright so far.
ReplyDeleteSerai is in everybody's compound, so simple and yet so important. First tried Serai Juice in Filipina a few years back.... very nice!

Is Serai that demanding? May be my soil is clay type. So it's full of nutrition for it! Anyway this is the only plant that so far i don't really put effort in it....

Meredehuit: I usually add it to my fried chicken marination. Other than that i add it in any of my seafood dishes! It add flavour to the dishes!
