Take Me Home, Country Roads

Over the weekend, we went to our friends' house in the country. WAY up in the mountainous woods, where neither cell phone service nor GPS service works. Here are some pictures of that trip. There are many amazing sights, made by both God and man. In some of these areas, time has seemed to stand still. And in one moment, time almost stopped for us, and these country roads almost DID take us home. Dear friends, do you remember my post of last week with all the deer on the road? Yesterday we hit one. He came jumping out of the woods onto the road on my side of the car, in front of the passenger bumper. He looked right at me with large, frightened eyes (the deer, not my husband, who remained cool and stayed in control). Then he went down, KERBUMP, KERBANG. We were going slowly, trying to read the mailbox house numbers, or it would have been much worse. The deer got up and limped/hopped back into the woods. We continued on, stunned. So this now is our second chance, our second life. I will use it well. But then again, every day is another chance, we just don't get reminded by going as close to the brink and back.

"Now listen, you who say,"Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money." Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is yur life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. James 4:13

Loved traveling down your country roads! I especially like the last pic of the old garage; it has such character.

Your incident is just another reminder of how quickly life can change. But as Christians, we can be confident knowing Who is in control!

Blessings to you!

Oh Ginny, I'm so glad that you all weren't hurt when the deer ran out. I've heard all kinds of stories about this happening. Did your car get damaged??? Hope the deer was okay --and I'm glad you are okay... Scary!!!!

I love to get out on country roads also. We drive on so many dirt roads when we are back in the mountains searching for waterfalls.

Great pictures.
Hugs,
Betsy

I am glad, too, that you all were not hurt, your car not damaged, and the deer was able to get up and go back into the woods.

I love the barn!

That reader board says it all. You get a real feel for the life of the community through those words.
Poor deer...I hope that it heals. You must have been in shock!

Goodness Ginny, I am glad to hear you are alright and the deer walked away. They move so quickly there is no time to react. It's a good thing you were traveling slowly.

I love getting on the back roads to really see the countryside. I really like the photo of the old building and all those signs.

I'm glad you (and the deer) were okay. I had a similar experience, but the deer hit my side of the car. But that hasn't kept us from driving those country roads.
