Turkey Trot

Gracie Lou walks with a hobble, so she needs a wheelchair. Gracie Lou is a turkey who lives at Sasha Farm Animal Sanctuary.  Money for the wheelchair, which costs at least $500.00, was solicited on Facebook. They got $600.00 pretty quickly. The wheelchair needs to be specially made, and it took at least 21 days to make it.

Dear Lord, I've been asked, nay commanded, to thank Thee for the Christmas turkey before us... a turkey which was no doubt a lively, intelligent bird... a social being... capable of actual affection... nuzzling its young with almost human-like compassion. Anyway, it's dead and we're gonna eat it. Please give our respects to its family.

Full Beaver Moon

There is a full moon on Monday. But we are to get rain then, and it looks full now! So I snapped it early.

This month's full moon is called The Full Beaver Moon. Because for the Native Americans, this was the time to set beaver traps before the swamps froze. And the beavers are very actively preparing for winter now. Also sometimes called The Frosty Moon.

The Gifts

On Thanksgiving Day, our son delivered these gifts form our granddaughters. They made a wreath, and on each leaf and pumpkin they wrote reasons they love us. We could not have gotten a better gift!

They also made us these Thanksgiving cards. I'm guessing they named the turkey Alex?

Here is the picture they took of themselves on the same day.

If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, "thank you," that would suffice.

Let's Watch The Parade!

Did you see the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade? If not, you are in luck. Because we DID! Here are my favorite parts, so come and watch with me. They started with a turkey, which was the first float at the first ever parade. Of course, not this exact same one.

And another turkey, they had quite a few.

My very favorite was this unique elephant.

And get a load of this green outfit! My eyes bugged out! It was celebrating Carnival in tropical lands.

Here you can see that a person was actually wearing this and walking around in it!

This is the first time I have EVER seen the Rockettes without their signature bare legs! And no high kicks!

And finally, Dolly Parton. Wearing a lovely knee length fringed and bejeweled dress.

So there you have it, the blog version of the parade. Too bad I can't do the same for Black Friday.

"Holiday binge-buying has deep roots in American culture: department stores have been associating turkey gluttony with its spending equivalent since they began sponsoring Thanksgiving Day parades in the early 20th century."

Thanksgiving 2020

Wishing all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving Day. This year we have more to be thankful for than ever, if we do NOT have Covid. I am now more thankful for good deep breaths. Here is a blast from the past of our granddaughter Anne, who is now 14. I hope you will all find some joy today, and be as happy as she was then.

And here are some things to give you a smile...

Strangely Predictive Art

This was at a student art exhibit at the local community college. I had forgotten about it till I happened upon the pictures a few minutes ago. I snapped this years ago! So it kind of gave me chills to see it now. It could be titled "In The Time Of Covid". Wish I could talk to the artist, it's like they were predicting the future. It was in a glass case, so there are reflections.

Something Squirrely

I wanted my kitchen table centerpiece to be not just for Christmas, but to stay out all winter. So this is what I put out. It is a Mama & baby squirrel, with beautiful bushy tails. I put a fruit floral pick in front of them, and that is my centerpiece!

The squirrel does not sicken and die of anxiety lest he should not accumulate enough nuts for two winters instead of one. The dog loses no sleep over the fact that he does not have enough bones laid aside for his declining years.

Encased In Glass

We saw these at different glass exhibits. I don't know how the glass blowers can get these things inside the glass! Do you have a favorite? Would you buy one?

When you look at a piece of delicately spun glass you think of two things: how beautiful it is and how easily it can be broken.
