Course Description

This course will prepare the students to understand:


what are the different types of qualitative research
approaches; what are the benefits it offers and how it
can be conducted in organizations or institutions. It will
enable the students to understand and apply qualitative
research methods appropriately to address
organizational and societal issues in Pakistan in
particular and in the world in generals.

Course Objectives

1.Develop qualitative research skills to address complexity of organizational social issues


2. Develop a better understanding of qualitative research methods by having a better
understanding of their
pros and cons
3. Learn and practice advanced level qualitative research approaches along with their
significance in
addressing complex organizational and societal issues.
4. Understand how this approach differs from quantitative approach along with its utility
for organizations.
5. Understand how both approaches can be integrated to address complexity, ambiguity
and politics in
organizations in particular and in society in general.

By the end of this course the students will be able to:


1. Define and understand qualitative research approach and what are its contributions to academic
and practitioner fields
2. Compare qualitative and quantitative approaches by listing their contributions and limitations
3. List and describe different qualitative research methods along with their implications for
researchers
and organizations
4. Understand logistical issues and complexities in conducting qualitative research
5. Gain hands-on experience of conducting a qualitative research through a project – this project
aims
to improve oral and written communication skills of the students through presentations of the
research findings and their implications.
