Ladies and gentlemen,

Have you ever felt the spark of inspiration ignite within you? That magical moment
when you realize that you're capable of achieving greatness? Have you ever
pondered the significance of academic excellence in shaping our future? These
questions, they stir something within us, don't they? They beckon us to explore the
depths of our potential and to strive for excellence in every endeavor.
Today, we gather here under the banner of "Ignite and Inspire: Through Academic
Excellence." But what does this truly mean? It's about more than just achieving good
grades or earning accolades. It's about unlocking the magic within each and every
one of us. It's about harnessing the power of knowledge to create positive change in
the world.
Academic excellence isn't just about mastering subjects or passing exams. It's about
embracing a mindset of continuous learning and growth. It's about pushing the
boundaries of what we think is possible and daring to dream big. It's about finding
the magic in the journey of discovery and realizing that with dedication and
perseverance, anything is achievable.
Think about the great minds throughout history who have reshaped our world
through their commitment to academic excellence. From the brilliant inventions of
Thomas Edison to the groundbreaking theories of Albert Einstein, each of them was
driven by a passion for learning and a desire to make a difference.
But academic excellence isn't reserved for the few; it's a journey that each of us can
embark upon. It starts with a belief in ourselves and a willingness to put in the effort
to succeed. It's about embracing challenges as opportunities for growth and never
settling for mediocrity.
As we stand here today, let us remember the words of Walt Disney: "All our dreams
can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them." So let us embrace the magic
of academic excellence, let us ignite the flames of inspiration within ourselves and
others, and let us strive to make our mark on the world. Together, we can create a
future filled with endless possibilities.
Thank you.
To the judges, fellow students, ladies and gentlemen good morning.
I am a youth, a millennial--many call our generation the non-traditional, the “now”
thinkers, the realists, the absurd, and the unsure. Is that the way you look at me too?
As I stand here in front of you, my passion to set free my ideals summon me to
speak out about the untold truth we may not see important.
My mother repeatedly told me as I was growing up that school should be my priority,
little did I know that this priority: my education will allow me to see the world not in
sugar-coated lies but the world as it is, an ugly truth. What has humanity done? Can
we still save the dying value of kindness and humility?
As a student of Yumbing National High School, I became more aware of the
economic issues, inequalities and concerns that we face today. I was opened to the
realities of the world and I became mindful of the responsibilities I have as a Filipino
youth. For me, the cliché is true: a better world and a better Philippines starts within
ourselves, within myself. And I believe that my classmates and I can contribute to the
progress of our country by first understanding the diversity of our Filipino people, our
rich history and culture, and the different traditions, tribes, and religions that we
have, especially in Mindanao.
We Filipinos have our own practices and beliefs. We differ in local language, culture,
and religion. But despite the differences, we respect one another and strive for
peace and growth. I can personally relate to this since my parents have different
religions. My mother is a Roman Catholic while my father is a Muslim. Some would
think of it as a very complicated situation but with respect for others and
understanding their practices, things will work out in the end.
As young Filipinos, my classmates and I can develop a deeper sense of appreciation
for the Filipino culture, values and heritage. In school, we participate in cultural
dance performances during students activities while at home, we practice “mano po”
and respect for older family members. By doing these Filipino traits and values, I
believe we are already contributing to the development of the country and to the
pursuit of the common good.
Moreover, with our acquired knowledge in school, we can use what we have learned
to care for our environment and to give back to our community. We can think critically
and look at societal problems in a holistic way so that we will be able to recognize
each angle as well as the root causes of these problems for us to start planning on
how to address it.
As a student leader and a campus journalist, I can start making change in our school
through projects and implementations. I believe in the power of words, I can write
and put my ideals into it. Encourage each one of my readers to see what a little hand
and a big heart can do to make our world a much better, a much peaceful, and a
much humane world.
My fellow Yumbinganons and I can collaborate with the local government to further
improve the educational needs of the young which we consider as the hope of our
nation. We can also study other progressive countries together with their culture,
systems and structuralism for us to create innovative ideas and techniques that can
be applied in our community.
By improving myself, my talents and skills, I know this will help me reach my true
potential as a Filipino. I can inspire others to be the best versions of themselves and
be proud of the success of other Pinoys because we Filipinos are talented, resilient,
and hospitable. And I believe that we have every right to claim the spotlight in the
global stage.
By eating, dressing, endorsing, watching and buying Pinoy products and films, my
classmates and I can also add to the income of Filipino vendors that can improve our
economic standards. We are proud of our culture, our language and products for
they reflect the creativity and resourcefulness of Filipinos.
I am also a boy scout who is committed and ready to serve the Philippines. I grew up
with my grandmother and because of that, I am reminded everyday that I should be
compassionate and sensitive to others, especially the less fortunate individuals. I am
grateful that Filipinos have close family ties and sustain a habit of helping people
even if they are strangers. I can contribute to the formation of my fellow students by
being a role model - a Filipino who has dignity, courage, and the ability to remain
optimistic despite the typhoons and storms that hit our country every year.
Non multa, sed multum. Not many but much. It refers to quality over quantity. We
don’t need to have a lot of talents and riches to be able to contribute for Philippine
progress. We just to ignite our burning passion for service and helping others for us
to truly recognize the Filipino spirit within all of us. This is Andre Socorro F. Doria, a
Filipino with a burning passion to do what God has bestowed upon my heart and
soul, ready to serve my country, the Philippines.
