The word education commonly defines it all as a learning process but it can also be the

most powerful weapon that will shape and change the future of our world (Mandela, N. &

Gregorie, C., n.d.). Over several generations, information and records are gathered to understand

the vast domains of the world as well as different kinds of literature, language, and writing. Thus,

those information and records are spread to one society to another in which became of educating

themselves from what they heard from the other. Moreover, this has been occurring in the

present modern age as more information and records have been stockpiled in the world’s

database, the society shares and spreads from what they have learned. Education can also be a

way of learning through sharing the things we have discovered or learned in our daily life but our

understanding can have limits. From this, it can correlate to how the state of education and

expertise of Filipinos in development is lacking as education during the Spanish period cannot be

accessible to all either due to social and economic status. Hence, the people are experiencing the

shackles and struggles of ignorance and poverty. Without education, the problem that befalls on

Filipinos will showcase no development in understanding, knowledge, and skills. Even in the

modern age, this kind of problem has been occurring still although there are programs that offer

free education to the needy like outreach programs.

Education is an important instrument for success in today's society because it helps to

alleviate life's problems like how the society practice their human mind in gaining knowledge
through educational domains that will allow them to maximize their potential and ability

(Zaharamohamad, 2016). Thus, this creates new opportunities and allows individuals to improve

their job prospects. In the Philippines, Rizal envisioned that someday the education will bring a

societal change to the Filipinos and empowering the people to acquire knowledge, skills, and

values that would solve their complications and enable them to be free of chains from poverty,

ignorance, and colonialism. Furthermore, education serves as the cornerstone of society since it

leads to economic and social prosperity. It prepares an individual to live a respectful life in the

society as it provides an environment in which a society's culture and values can evolve and

developed. Additionally, education had a significant impact on everyone’s life. It contributes to

the development of our personality, thoughts, and knowledge. We all have different perspectives

on education and how we should be educated, but at the end of the day, our true intelligence is

discovered through our education throughout our life. Education gives us with opportunities; in

order to have a stable existence or a job in life, we must have adequate knowledge in the field

into which we desire to enter. This will help us to thrive and achieve in the real world. It also

teaches us to be respectful and open-minded.

Personally, education can differ in various meanings but I believe that education can be a

key in unlocking an individual’s potential in knowledge, skills, and values. Education has

already started since when we are introduced into this world especially in our newborn stage and

young age. In the newborn stage, our parents are the very first teachers that guide us in preparing

to be more comfortable living in a world that we haven’t discovered widely. We learned and

observed how our parents interact in their daily life and also to our surroundings. In the toddler

age, we tend to live and adjust comfortably in our environment and manage to develop our

perception and creative thinking skills in playing several kinds of child toys by simply imagining
and shaping what would our image in the future. Additionally, we tend to be familiarized and

develop ourselves in language and literature, aiming to understand and converse to other society.

As my age progress till now, it made me experience various situations and moments that shapes

and builds the character that I envisioned to be. The journey of myself in educational school and

other communities helped me to develop my interaction skills, belief, and morals. From this, it

shows that our journey will slowly shape and build up as we learned multiple domains of

experience in seeing the world fully just like how Rizal understood the importance of education.

Despite being young, he sees how the problematic situation of the Philippines against the

colonial rule of Spaniards. Thus, he took his studies seriously and began exploring other

countries in order to gain more knowledge and understanding of the world. In addition, Rizal

hopes to use this knowledge in overthrowing the dictatorial power of the Spaniards. Overall, this

shows that Rizal values education fully because it’s a way to elevate the country’s societal

change and to empower individual Filipinos in acquiring knowledge, skills, and values in hopes

to see a better future and change of their lives and country. It’s true that education is the key that

will pave a way in gaining a better future and to reach the life that we dream of and it is not an

easy path but a learning path that is full of hardship and courage. In the modern age, not all

people get to have an education because some live an unfortunate environment or lifestyle. The

youth must embrace for what they have and what they learned because you have the opportunity

to gain and develop your future in order to live a stable and comfortable life. Without education,

there will be no progress in both character and for the world. And, the future that we envisioned

will not be a place that we will live comfortably. Without education, there is no goal, no

motivation or ambition to achieve success in life. It’s best to strive and explore more about the

world, our character, and our journey. Education builds many things in life be it: shaping your
character, achievements in life and goals, etc. Education is not a preparation for life rather

education is our life itself (John Dewey, 1952).
