A teacher encourages students to take advantage of the opportunities given to

them, and to create opportunities for themselves. A teacher does more than have
students learn the fundamentals of each subject, but demonstrates how to use
these skills to change our world. Above all, a teacher cares about each student that
enters the classroom.
My desire to be a teacher sparked while I was in Elementary School, shortly after my
dream of being a dolphin trainer ended. Although this concrete dream could have
ended as quickly as feeding the dolphins did, my passion for this profession did not
die, but continued to burn for years. I decided to have a positive influence on other
peoples lives, just as my teachers had on mine. It is my desire to equip the next
generations of our society with the necessary tools to not only become functioning
citizens, but ones that will spark positive changes in our world. I have a strong
passion for working with children and have quickly learned that there is nothing that
brings more joy than helping others. When thinking about entering a profession that
has its difficulties, yet also presents the reward of witnessing both big and small
successes of students, I become ecstatic. The many positive influences and mentors
that Ive been fortunate enough to have in my life have contributed to my
inspiration to become a teacher. It is my ambition to be that same light to the
children who come into my classroom, no matter what situations they come from.
As my students embark on their learning journey and go outside of their comfort
zone, I want to walk alongside them not wait for them at the finish line.
I have been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to volunteer in the public
school system, teach Sunday school, volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters, lead
youth groups and childrens programs, work at a summer camp, and tutor a
university student who has an exceptionality. Each of these experiences have
helped me develop many useful skills, but above all, have shown me that my heart
longs to lead, mentor, and teach others. Along with these volunteer and paid
positions, I have taken part in many different extra curricular activities, including
sports teams, musicals, student council, choir, and other committees. Each of these
clubs or teams have taught me significant lessons about communication, creativity,
and teamwork helping me to become a more well-rounded and functioning person
in society. I am extremely thankful to have had these opportunities, but realize that
they would not have been possible without the leadership and volunteer hours put
in by the teachers at my schools. Because of these valuable opportunities, it is my
desire to provide such opportunities for those I come in contact with in my
profession.
I have been blessed with opportunities that have expanded my worldview. After two
Mission Trips to New York city and attending the University of Oxford for three
months on an exchange program, I have been able to interact with many people
from different cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds. After each of these
trips, I noticed an extreme change in my worldview and developed more
compassion for those outside of my own culture. Because of these experiences and
my background, I have learned that I truly have a desire to connect with many
people and help them to grow.

I take each responsibility I am given very seriously and do my best to portray myself
in a professional manner. I have excellent organizational skills, which I did truly take
note of until my senior year when I led my school in a competitive fundraiser called
Penny Wars that raised over $1200 to help local families in need. While this task
seemed overwhelming at the time, it has shown me the importance of motivation
and ambition: two qualities that have stuck with me since this event. It is my hope
that these skills which I possess will contribute to my profession as a teacher,
making a difference in peoples lives both directly and indirectly.
I am excited to someday receive the honour of having my own teaching profession
and continue my journey as an educator. I long to acquire more knowledge about
the profession through further research and experiences which I hope will lead me
towards becoming a teacher who does not simply convey knowledge, but instils a
desire to learn and think critically within my students that will stick with them for a
lifetime.
