Skills

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards Patterns and Algebra

B. Performance Standards Demonstrate knowledge and skills in patterns and algebra (linear equations and
inequalities in one and two variables, linear functions, systems of linear equations, and
inequalities in two variables; exponents and radicals, quadratic equations; inequalities;
functions; and polynomials and polynomial equations and functions).

C. Learning Competencies/ Objectives Knowledge:

Write the LC code for each.  Illustrate the rectangular coordinate system and its use. (LS3MP-
PA-PSE-JHS-38)
 Define linear equations
(LS3MP-PA-PSE-JHS-39)
 Graph different types of linear equations
(LS3MP-PA-PSE-JHS-44).

Skill: Perform the given tasks individually, by pair and by, group.

Attitude: To learn how to illustrate a coordinate system and its use.

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Springboard/Motivation Where Are You?
(Establishing a purpose for the lesson)
I will group you into two and each group will be given a manila paper with a
map on it and meta cards with the names of the 7 continents. I want you to
locate the 7 continents. I will only give you 2 minutes to do the activity.
Whoever finishes it immediately and correctly will win the game.
EUROPE SOUTH NORTH ASIA

AMERICA AMERICA

B. Activity Pre-Test
(Review of previous lesson/s or presenting the
new lesson)  Learners will answer the pre-test questions using the worksheets.

Directions: Graph the following coordinate of points to show their exact

location on a plane.

C. Analysis Let’s Try This Out (Board Work)

(Presenting examples/instances of the new
lesson) Use the given map below to locate where Mang Neho is going.
Follow the directions he inputs on his map application (app) to identify his
destination. Your starting point is the star in the middle of the map.
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new Let’s Learn!
skills (sub-activity #1)
In the activity, we used numbers to describe exactly where a location is (2 left,
1 up) with respect to a fixed point (the star). In mathematics, we also use a
similar system to demonstrate where points are in a given plane.

We use a number line to describe where a number is from fixed point (usually
from zero). But locating a point in this number line only moves in the
horizontal direction (left or right only).

However, each location in a space, like in the map we used, is accessible by

moving in two directions, horizontal (left or right) and vertical (upward or
downward). For example, when moving 2 to the right and 1 upwards, these two
movements end up in John’s house.

Refer to the UNESCO ALS Module 3 Lesson 1 page 5-14 or in the PowerPoint
Lessons.

E. Abstraction Ask
(Making generalizations about the lesson)
 What is a cartesian plane?
 What are the two perpendicular number lines?
 What are the two axis in a coordinate plane?
 Why is it important to learn how to locate a place using a coordinate
plane?

F. Application Engage
(Developing mastery)  Let learners answer the different questions below.
Activity 1
Directions: Identify the movement and direction of the ordered pairs in each
axis when plotted in the rectangular coordinate system. Then, plot the point.

Activity 2

Directions: Create a rectangular coordinate system with an interval of 1 for

each item. Then, plot the point.

G. Valuing (Finding practical application How important is a GPS when you are traveling in another place?
of concepts and skills in daily living)
H. Evaluation Directions: Solve the values of y for each given value of x. Then, write the set
(Assessing learning) of ordered pairs for each equation.

I. Agreement (Additional activities for application

or remediation)
V. REFLECTION
A. A. No. of learners who earned 80% in
the evaluation

B. B. No. of learners who require

additional activities for remediation
C. C. Did the remedial lessons work? No.
of learners who have caught up with
the lesson
D. D. No. of learners who continue to
require remediation
E. Which of my teaching strategies
worked well? Why did this work?
F. What difficulties did I encounter
which my principal or supervisor can
help me solve?
G. What innovation or localized
materials did I use/discover which I
wish to share with other teachers?
